Serguei Khadukin , How does it compare to PS1 Dune 2000 port? From what I've read, decent alongside Command & Conquer ports especially with PS1 Dualshocks and mice for each person in a 2-player battle over the PS1 'system' serial link between a pair of consoles but with a twist [ not offered elsewhere? ] Eventually the two players who were battling against each other will experience a branch in the story when they'll have to co-op against one of the other clans as a common enemy ran by the game's AI. Haven't come to that experience yet but have my systems, S-video cabling, mice, serial / combat link cable and so far a copy of Dune 2000. ( Would've been handy if Dune 2000 came with both discs needed to link a pair of consoles like the latter pair of Command & Conquer PS1 ports so the search for a second disc continues. )
Some suggestions for those who are interested in Wii RTS: -Takt of Magic (only in Japanese, but text is only necessary to understand the story) -Monsteca Corral (Wii Ware; very weird but interesting concept) -PES series (soccer with RTS elements) -Battalion War 2 -Overlord (similar to Pikmin) -Pikmin 1 and 2 (ports)
my most nostalgic RTS console game is Command & Conquer Red Alert Retaliation for the PS1. with over 100 multilayer maps, 2 campaigns. and most of the issues you brought up about the first game fixed. I loved it and sunk so many hours into it. My favorite map was by far 65, as you couldn't just tank rush, and it forced you to build transports for beach invasions. me and my friends had many D day like situations on that map.
I played the hell out of Warcraft 2 and KKND on my PS1 back in the day, and then I also played them on my PSP via PSX2PSP, playing Warcraft 2 on the go was still amazing.
The reason units in Command & Conquer don't attack enemy buildings is because you can use an Engineer to take over enemy buildings for yourself (and you can then build enemy buildings or units!) so you might want your units to guard buildings while your engineer walks over without damaging them.
I got both Command & Conquer 64 and Starcraft 64. I got them both for Xmas one year... before I got them I was a Consoles player first and a PC second. When I got these two games I moved to their PC equivalent and graduated to being Master race. C&C 64 is actually worth your time over C&C 95. Both of them require you to order units to attack building but not units. The N64 version has worse graphics in the Cinematic game movies but has much better graphics for the actual gameplay especially with the N64 expansion pack... the big advantage of the N64 version is it was the First Command and Conquer game to have a mission library where once you beat a mission you unlocked it and also unlocked it's alternative variant missions and could play them anytime. Starcraft 64 did have some things better than C&C 64 but had nothing better than Starcraft on PC except for a few extra missions. Which you pointed out.
And here I thought I was the only person to have played Goblin Commander. It's interesting how Ressurection IV and so on from SC 64 turned out to be canonical to the Starcraft story.
God I fucking love this series. As much as I enjoyed Derek as the HVGN, it's really cool how much variety this channel has now. Punching Weight has become one of my favorite series on RUclips, make videos more frequently god damn it!
I remember quite loving the PS1 version of Warcraft 2. And the Age Of Empire 2 port for PS2 was pretty damn good too. That's how I was introduced to the series.
I remember playing Age of Empires 2 on the PS 2 and I think I even played it before the PC Version and it worked surprisingly well. It was a near identical port and after some practice I had no problems controlling it, partly due to the forgiving game speed. Might wanna try that one out, had a lot of fun with it back in the day.
You know I have a very vivid memory of playing PS1 Command & Conquer Red Alert over link cable with my brother back in the day. I remember hauling my 19in. television into the living room and positioning it so I could watch my brother play on the larger television to cheat. :D Thats like the only time I ever remember using the PS1 link cable! lol It was fun. PS1 C&C wasn't great but it was my very first exposure to the RTS genre (we had no computer in our household until several years later). I have a big 'ole soft spot for the PS1 C&C games because of that.
PS1 favs are: KKND Krossfire, Dune 2000, Warzone 2100, Warhammer Dark Omen, Populous the beginning, Z (The bitmap brothers) to name a few :D. My all time fav console was the ps1 and loved every minute of it.
Command And Conquer Red Alert Retaliation and KKND2 (european only) on PS1. very awesome RTSes, I played a lot back in my childhood and enjoyed with friends on splitscreens of KKND2. but CNC:RAR only support link game, still fun believe me.
Kinda bummed there was no mention of Pikmin, but I didn't expect it to be a featured title, since it's pretty well known and doesn't push consoles to make the RTS genre work. Still loved the video though, as I still got the actual meat I wanted.
I think he was sticking to pure RTS games (otherwise Herzog Zwei would have probably been mentioned), and I don't think Pikmin was inspired by the genre at all, I see it as a spiritual successor to SimAnt.
I used to call Square "Box" until someone brought up why I didn't call Circle "Sphere" or Triangle "Pyramid" what I'm saying is that people tend to have their own name for a bunch of common things.
I'm a fan of Starcraft and played a lot of Warcraft and Age of Empires too, but a few years ago I bought on 3DS Amoebattle and despite being very short and simply I loved it for the art style and creativity in the style of conquering and reproducing units, it's really unique and made me wonder the possibilities in the RTS genre
I had X-Com Terror from the deep for Playstation one, and I liked it, controls were fine but load times and enemy turns were very long. Also Warcraft 2 for Psone is good and playable port. Also Red alert Retaliation for PSone was ok. You definitely need to check those out.
Oh boy! Been waiting on this one for a long time! Have I got a list for you! Alien vs Predator: Extinction (PS2 and Xbox)-- An interesting, underappreciated diamond in the rough with three very different faction playstyles. The only problem is there seems to be no Skirmish/Multiplayer modes :( LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2-- A fantastic conversion of classic RTS, only problem is it's pricey. Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat (PS1)--A Total War style game for PS1. Might be interesting, but I've never played. Warhammer: Battle March (360)-- The above on steroids: multiple playable factions but a pretty linear campaign (to my knowledge). A must for your next one. Stormrise (360)-- A terrible game to be sure, but one with some very interesting ideas and factions. done from a third person command unit's perspective. Also made by Creative Assembly, so that's a thing. Army Men RTS (PS2 and Xbox)--Exactly what you think. Grim Grimoire (PS2)-- An Atlus published game from 2005. Again, expectations meet reality. Supreme Commander (360)-- A valiant effort, but this is Supreme Commander, where the individual unit limit is 1000 so yeah... Universe at War: Earth Assault (360)-- Three distinct alien factions and made by the guys who did Command and Conquer right down to the music. clunky but worth a look. Thanks for tolerating this little Sperg Session!
Masterfully done episode my friend. Even though it was technically inferior. I still love my copy of Starcraft 64. I didn't have a PC at the time and this was the only way I could play it.
A lot of people gave it crap, but they didn’t understand. For kids like me at the time couldn’t even afford a pc, and had to go visit my friend who had a good pc to play the game. I did however have an N64 second hand, and never in my wildest dreams thought it would appear on a console, let alone the N64. Starcraft 64 was a godsend and it was a Starcraft I could call my own. I have a high end gaming pc, and all the consoles today, but Starcraft on the N64 at the time was the greatest.
Dang, you beat me to it. I love that game. Fantastic art, great story, and pretty groundbreaking in social terms considering it had an openly gay main character.
I went through all the cutscenes and Lillet does say she'll "offer her heart" to Amoretta. But after research it appears the _Fear Effect_ games were the first console video games to feature an openly gay, and explicit, playable protagonist.
The ones I remember playing are Mega-Lo-Mania on the MegaDrive/Genesis (although I never really played it that much, it was one of those games I picked up a couple times but remember really well), and Dune 2000 for the PS1 (although that was a console port to a PC game, so I don't think it counts as a "true console RTS game").
I'm STILL playing Warlocked. I wish I had known about this game back in the day and gotten the game for the GameBoy itself. But emulator works. Interesting game. I also got introduced to Metal Storm via your show (well, HVGN). It's fun to discover games I missed back then, depending on what was shipped to Iceland. What my parents wanted/could buy, my older brother etc. :D
I am interested in this version because IU am in a situation where sitting at a desk to play is not feasible and you just can't do Starcraft with a controller on pc. I get overwhelmed by hotkeys and macros, I don't even care about actions per minute. The most complex stuff I am able to deal with is unit groups.
Sword & Soldiers 2 on the Wii U is pretty dang fun. Set on a 2D plane, when you buy your soldiers, they immediately just head over to the opponent's base, so timing is key.
I just remembered that there was Army Men RTS on the Gamecube. It was a console based, real time strategy game. You would find forgotten toys and batteries out in the backyard while you would make grunts and the like to go fight for you. When units would die, they would leave behind a glob of plastic that your harvesters could gather up, but electricity was gone forever. While you could have a large number of your standard grunts, the amount of vehicles and defenses was finite.
erm... there are actually many ... I can think of 10 on the PSX alone... Actually I will try and list them here: Command and Conquer Red Alert Warcraft Civ Civ 2 Populous X-com Age of Empires Dune Shadow of the Horned Rat Dark Omen Warzone 2100
conflict zone on the dreamcast is pretty awesome, it has this twist where you gotta worry about rescuing people and clearing overtaken zones so you get some "income"
Red Alert 3 for the 360 is one I recall mostly working well. Included the solo and co-op campaigns and full skirmish support. Could also assign groups and other shortcuts.
There are quite a few examples missing: - Dune II for the Sega Genesis. Very important as it was not only the first proper RTS, but it was also the first one to be ported to consoles, and its controls are fairly similar to the PC version (although the interface only shows you your Credits and radar, but at least the game pauses fighting while you try to repair or use a building). - Age of Empires 2 for the PS2. - A mention for Command & Conquer Red Alert for PS1 which does fix some shortcomings the Tiberian Dawn port had. - Several Populous ports.
You appear to have overlooked a couple of rather prominent cases - Tom Clancy's EndWar on PS3 and Xbox 360 was also built for consoles, and got around the awkward selections by using voice commands (which actually made it horrible when ported to PC). Army Men RTS is significantly less prominent, but got around selection boxes with selection circles of varying sizes from the center of the screen.
Hey man, nice video! There was one RTS game that you kinda missed, Warzone 2100. It's a real 3d RTS running on PS1 with tons of research and UNITS CRAFTING!!! Please, you must at least take a look at that game, it is absolutely fantastic! And even more, it was ported on PC as a freeware and it's still being supported by this very day
I forgot you did a Warlocked episode I gotta go back and watch that one, I loved that game back in the day, and was just talking about it yesterday :) Only played command and conquer 64 of these games, it was ok but I'm glad I only rented it and didn't buy it haha
Never knew that SC 64 could be played with the mouse. Also, One of it's biggest strengths was the ability to play the entire campaign coop. The exclusive content being the final mission (Resurrection) was also a bonus.
Great video. It's about having fun and enjoying the experience any way you like it, so games like this do make sense. I have fondest memories of playing red alert retaliation and WarCraft 2 the dark saga on PS1, two "impossible" ports, but only if you ask those hardcore pc rts gamers. I was aware that it wasn't most optimal way to play those games, bit I enjoyed every moment. I miss that version of myself actually. Just enjoying the game and not thinking if its the best version, is there a better platform for it etc. I even bought a playstation mouse just for those two games to find out it doesn't work in warcraft. It worked well in red alert, but the whole thing was missing the point of playing on a console.
Kiind of shocked this one wasn't covered at all. Isn't Herzog Zwei considered to be one of the pioneering games of the genre? How are you going to cover console RTS games and skip the fact that one of the most important games in the genre overall was actually a console game?
Grimgrimoire is my favorite console RTS. Vanillaware loved Starcraft so much that they decided to make their own, and the result was a manageable and super fun console RTS combined with Vanillaware's trademark beautiful graphics and music.
the alien vs predator rts for ps2 ate up hours of my life, that was great. there was a level where it was you against an ai alien and you both started with nothing in a lab and i would play that over and over
Man, I played so much Starcraft 64 when I was a kid. My computer sucked at the time, and beyond that I got Starcraft 64 second-hand. I had played the computer version elsewhere, but I honestly really did have almost zero trouble with the controls. Good memories.
CnC on the ps1 or PSP/vita worked a lot better. There was also Ogre Battle, a really interesting RTS/strategy rpg hybrid that had games on the SNES, N64, and had spinoffs on the GBA, SNES, PS1, and PSP, although the series is basically entirely unknown at this point.
I love Starcraft64. When I was a kid i couldn't stand how slow it is compared to the computer but now I can appreciate just how good a job they did. Multiplayer coop is sooooo fun. Grab a case of beer and go to town fighting some computer enemies. Other good console RTS games: Herzog Zwei for the Genesis and Giants Citizen Kabuto's ps2 port (has some RTS elements)
Alien vs Predator Extinction (PS2 & Xbox) is an admirable attempt at a console RTS, there's Warcraft on PSX, Halo Wars. I remember reading about a Lego RTS game, but it might have been on DS.
Personally, my favorite console RTS is still Tom Clancy's EndWar. Like Halo Wars, it was an RTS made with console controls in mind, and it had a giommick that actually worked: Voice Control. You can shout orders into a headset and the game will (pretty decently) translate what you said onto the battlefield. The controiler controls were also nice, and I just like the style of the game, with 3 distinct factions (European Federation Enforcer Corps, Joint Strike Forces and Russian Spetznaz), and the game still has a very nice design and look.
I loved playing Command & Conquer on N64 even though I also played Tiberian Sun on my computer along with Star Craft. And yea, I totally agree, out of the covered games in this video, Starcraft is probably the one you don't need to really get if you're a curious collector. It's pretty damn faithful that all you have that's different is no VA and the controller. I wish they went ambitious and tried to make it with 3D models like C&C.
I think Pikmin would have been interesting to discuss! There's also an RTS game for the GBA called Mech Platoon that was apparently well received? Punching Weight episode suggestion: Killer7. When it comes to "weird," it doesn't get much weirder than Killer7. Just about every aspect of that game is unconventional, right down to the controls (you move your character with the A button). But it's also one of my favorite games on the GameCube and still my favorite Suda 51 game.
how about Suda51 in general? He's a fucking madman when it comes to weird games. I mean, his latest release, Let It Die, has the Grim Reaper on a fucking skateboard and a hot stripper who's obsessed with mushrooms.
I know it's considered a "real-time tactics" game due to its focus on units rather than resources, but one of the weirdest games to me was Odama for the Gamecube, which mixed pinball with unit strategy. It even had the Gamecube microphone (which I never used for another game) that came with it. They were even planning to have a second player function that used the DK Bongos to give your units morale and buff them but ended up cutting it. The only RTS console games I know of besides the three here are Supreme Commander for the XBOX 360, Age of Empires 2 on the PS2, and Dune for the Genesis.
I have extremely fond memories of playing Starcraft 64 for hours and hours daily with my brother or friends. Genuinely one of the best rare gems of the N64 in my opinion.
In Starcraft 64 you can pan the camera faster by holding Z, you can hotkey units with R and C Buttons and use them with Z and C buttons, and use the global build menu with R and Z Buttons.
Man, I loved Starcraft64. I played the pc version at a friends, but didn't have my own PC. It'd probably be a bit harder to go back and play now that I have the pc version, but at the time, it was great. It played well and was a ton of fun.
Yu Gi Oh The Falsebound Kingdom is kind of a Console RTS/SRPG hybrid. Map movement and conquering happens in real time, but has traditional turn based battles when combat happens where the battle is either won via wiping out your opponent's team or scoring more points of damage than them. Admitting it plays more like a real time SRPG than RTS, but hey its kinda neat. Really slow tho, if you gotta play, play it on Dolphin with a turbo ready at all times.
There was Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction on the PS2 and Xbox, which I want to try, and also Army Men: RTS for the PS2, Gamecube and PC, which I really liked. I think Kingdom Under Fire was somewhat of an RTS for the original Xbox that included you taking control of a warrior as well as commanding different units. There was also Battalion Wars 1 and 2 from Gamecube and the Wii respectively.
I owned all of the original C&C games on my windows 98 PC, and yes, your soldier AI was always blind, except for when they found groups of enemies they didn't need to engage, then they would see them through FoW.
there are some good Japanese strategy games that are older than the games you covered. Telenet made two Hiouden games for the SNES, and I think they are both fan-translated. They also work with the mouse. And they're the original games; there is no PC version. Lord Monarch is a very old, almost proto-RTS game from Falcom. It came out before the term was invented. It was very well received in Japan. there is a great expanded port for Sega Megadrive, and a not-so-great Super Famicom non-extended port. Falcom even released the Windows version in English for free, and you can easily find it online if you search.
Just three games? I expected a bit more, given how "shocking it is how many console RTS' actually exist" - still, nice video. Never heard of Goblin Commander.
GrimGrimoire by VanillaWare on the PS2 is a strange and fascinating console RTS. I don't even like RTSs, but love VanillaWare so picked up GrimGrimoire expecting it to be like Odin Sphere, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, and Princess Crown. Rather surprised that it was an RTS, but ended up being quirky and fun. Think it's worth a look.
On a more constructive note, the PS2 port of Age of Empires is very interesting, a Microsoft game on a Sony console ported by Konami. The only drawback is the reduced screen resolution and lack of online. However it supports any generic usb keyboard and mouse, so there's the controller issue solved.
This was my first entrance into what I consider hardcore gaming. I still have my cart and N64 and they work like a charm. This is my childhood, I've never seen any1 else ever have the game
Warlocked was such a good game! And now I'm really bummed I lost it along with a bunch of other games. It was a fairly repetitive game, but just having a portable RTS in the year 2000 was great.
Dune 2 on Sega MegaDrive (Genesis) - one of the earliest RTS on consoles. A PC port from Westwood and Virgin.
Serguei Khadukin And one of the few ports that was better than the original.
Serguei Khadukin Classic
My friend had Dune 2 Battle for Arrakis for the Megadrive, and it was good, we played shit out of it.
Serguei Khadukin indeed
Serguei Khadukin ,

you NEED to feature Odama on the next one. voice controlled pinball RTS. that game is bonkers.
And it's made by the creator of Seaman and Sim Tower
Thanks Odama
+Mother'sBasement. Man I forgot about that.
Pinball rts sounds awesome
Its everyone's least favorite anime youtuber

KKND was awesome, split screen kicked ass
I used to love C&C on the psone. Also, shout outs to Herzog Zwei on the Megadrive.
surprised you didn't talk about warcraft 2 on PSOne
Yep. Came here to say that. I played a LOT of that game.
I played so much Age of Empires 2 on the PS2! I remember that being a decent port!
aoe2 on the ps2? really? wow.
that is one game that can't possibly work on consoles. it's so damn complex and requires so much precision...
Funny thing about that port, it allows mouse (and supposedly keyboard) usage through the USB ports on the PS2.
Command And Conquer Red Alert Retaliation and KKND2 (european only) on PS1. very awesome RTSes, I played a lot back in my childhood and enjoyed with friends on splitscreens of KKND2. but CNC:RAR only support link game, still fun believe me.

Devin Craig Do you often get the "meat" that you crave?
Does long distance "meat" count?
7:54 "Square, X or Oh". Excuse me? What did you just fucking say? Oh?! Fucking Oh?! It's a circle, just call it what it is.
Love you.
I used to call Square "Box" until someone brought up why I didn't call Circle "Sphere" or Triangle "Pyramid"
what I'm saying is that people tend to have their own name for a bunch of common things.
You know technically X is cross because in japan a cross is used to represent stop/no and a circle is used to represent go/yes. sooo
square, round, cross, triangle is how I call them
Warzone 2100 on the PS1 is my fav RTS. It has an amazing opening video which gets you really into the universe.
C&C: Red Alert Retaliation for the PS1 is also good.
Command & Conquer on the ps1 could use the ps1's mouse
Nope! Tiberium dawn has no mouse support! Red alert and reatillation does support the ps mouse!
Took me years to beat all the missions on StarCraft 64, one of my proudest video game accomplishments!
can you save your missions i can’t?
Goblin Commander looks AWESOME. Gotta check this one out!

I thought X-Com was a turn-based strategy?
Watching this video it makes sense than once they finally got the N64 Mouse they made like 6 videos about it 😂
Recently started watching your videos !! Amazing channel .
I was literally just watching old videos of yours when I saw you uploaded. Everything's coming up me!
Loser's Club your name makes this comment all the better lol
SilverBack Lol, It's such a perfect name for me, honestly.
I feel like that should make me sad, but I have a doofy smile on my face thinking about it.
Everything's coming up Milhouse!
My feet are soaked, but my cuffs are bone dry!
Good lord, how was Dune for the Genesis not even mentioned?
I always found the PS1 port of C&C Red Alert 1 to be pretty enjoyable.
Oh boy! Been waiting on this one for a long time! Have I got a list for you!

There was also Age of Empires II on the ps2, that's another great one. :)
Masterfully done episode my friend. Even though it was technically inferior. I still love my copy of Starcraft 64. I didn't have a PC at the time and this was the only way I could play it.
Baldies for PS1/Saturn is apparently upgraded from the PC version, and the game is an RTS that originated on the Jaguar, so there's that.
A lot of people gave it crap, but they didn’t understand.

More so _implied_, but I see what you mean.
I came here to mention this. That game was pretty great considering its a 2D RTS on a console.
I went through all the cutscenes and Lillet does say she'll "offer her heart" to Amoretta. But after research it appears the _Fear Effect_ games were the first console video games to feature an openly gay, and explicit, playable protagonist.
As always, an interesting video with lots of history.
Thanks!!! The new intro tune is no longer hurting the ears.
This one deserves a follow-up with a lot of the classics and big names that you missed here!
I am interested in this version because IU am in a situation where sitting at a desk to play is not feasible and you just can't do Starcraft with a controller on pc. I get overwhelmed by hotkeys and macros, I don't even care about actions per minute. The most complex stuff I am able to deal with is unit groups.
Same :)
Sword & Soldiers 2 on the Wii U is pretty dang fun. Set on a 2D plane, when you buy your soldiers, they immediately just head over to the opponent's base, so timing is key.
C&C Red Alert for the PSX was great.
Actually I will try and list them here:
Command and Conquer
Red Alert
Warcraft
Civ
Civ 2
Populous
X-com
Age of Empires
Dune
Shadow of the Horned Rat
Dark Omen
Warzone 2100
conflict zone on the dreamcast is pretty awesome, it has this twist where you gotta worry about rescuing people and clearing overtaken zones so you get some "income"
Red Alert 3 for the 360 is one I recall mostly working well. Included the solo and co-op campaigns and full skirmish support. Could also assign groups and other shortcuts.
There are quite a few examples missing:
- Dune II for the Sega Genesis.
- Several Populous ports.
always makes my day when a SSFF NOTIFICATION pops up on my phone
Check out Mech Platoon. That's a RTS game on the freakin GBA!
KKND2: Krossfire on the PS1. One of my all time favorites.
also, great episode, thanks SSFF! :)
Loved playing Goblin Commander as a kid.
X-com (yeah the MSDOS version) was ported to PS1. Compatible with PS1 mouse too.
the original? As in UFO: Enemy Unknown?
Hey man, nice video! There was one RTS game that you kinda missed, Warzone 2100. It's a real 3d RTS running on PS1 with tons of research and UNITS CRAFTING!!! Please, you must at least take a look at that game, it is absolutely fantastic! And even more, it was ported on PC as a freeware and it's still being supported by this very day
I forgot you did a Warlocked episode I gotta go back and watch that one, I loved that game back in the day, and was just talking about it yesterday :)
Only played command and conquer 64 of these games, it was ok but I'm glad I only rented it and didn't buy it haha
Never knew that SC 64 could be played with the mouse. Also, One of it's biggest strengths was the ability to play the entire campaign coop. The exclusive content being the final mission (Resurrection) was also a bonus.
Goblin Commander is great. I randomly got it back in the mid 2000s and really enjoyed it.
Brutal Legend is my favorite console RTS because it's a mix of RTS and action.
Darwinia+ is a good console port of one of my personal favorite RTSs.
Lets not forget Herzog Zwei.
Herzog Zwei is awesome.
was hoping they'd mention it since it came before the modern computer RTS
Kiind of shocked this one wasn't covered at all. Isn't Herzog Zwei considered to be one of the pioneering games of the genre? How are you going to cover console RTS games and skip the fact that one of the most important games in the genre overall was actually a console game?
@@Gamebreakerprods it's a sequel to a Japan exclusive RTS Herzog, made by the same people.
No Universe at War: Earth Assault? Well I know what I'm playing through this week!
Grimgrimoire is my favorite console RTS. Vanillaware loved Starcraft so much that they decided to make their own, and the result was a manageable and super fun console RTS combined with Vanillaware's trademark beautiful graphics and music.
the alien vs predator rts for ps2 ate up hours of my life, that was great. there was a level where it was you against an ai alien and you both started with nothing in a lab and i would play that over and over
I loved the voice sounds on c&c 64. Sounded like they were over radio, felt more immersive.
I used to play a lot of Command and conquer red alert for the PS1
Man, I played so much Starcraft 64 when I was a kid. My computer sucked at the time, and beyond that I got Starcraft 64 second-hand. I had played the computer version elsewhere, but I honestly really did have almost zero trouble with the controls.
Good memories.
CnC on the ps1 or PSP/vita worked a lot better. There was also Ogre Battle, a really interesting RTS/strategy rpg hybrid that had games on the SNES, N64, and had spinoffs on the GBA, SNES, PS1, and PSP, although the series is basically entirely unknown at this point.
And some people still think Atlus owns the series (even though it's Square Enix who owns the series)
Very insightful video. I'm surprised Ogre Battle 64 and Pikmin weren't mentioned here. They're both technically console RTS games.
I remember reading about a Lego RTS game, but it might have been on DS.
red alert retaliation on ps1 was incredible. fully voiced fmvs, great controls for console and over 120 or so skirmish maps.
I'm so happy to see Goblin Commander again.
Herzog Zwei on the Genesis, Warcraft II on PS1 and Saturn
I have extremely fond memories of playing Starcraft 64 for hours and hours daily with my brother or friends. Genuinely one of the best rare gems of the N64 in my opinion.
Oh, man, I had forgotten about Warlock! I loved that game as a kid.
I really wanted to play Warcraft 2 again so much, that I bought the PS1 port. It's not very good but it's playable.
A massive game from my childhood was Z on the PS1, it runs a high price now but if you do this topic again I would love to see you cover this.
Warzone 2100 on the PlayStation, sad this one got over looked.
what about Dune 2000 on PS1?
This was my first entrance into what I consider hardcore gaming. I still have my cart and N64 and they work like a charm. This is my childhood, I've never seen any1 else ever have the game
Brutal Legend?
Brutal Legend is more like a RTS/adventure game
Warlocked was such a good game! And now I'm really bummed I lost it along with a bunch of other games. It was a fairly repetitive game, but just having a portable RTS in the year 2000 was great.
