I've seen the Tedeschi Trucks Band a number of times the past 14 years, but none better than Saturday night here in Baltimore. They were on fire. When I first heard that line bass line from Brandon Boone I went back 54 years to the three cassette set I wore out in high school and thought, it can't be. But it was! What a great way to end a wonderful evening than "Soul Sacrifice." And then Sly as an encore! Thank you TTB!

I called up Derek ages ago, to tell him that Carlos had mentioned him in an interview in "Vintage Guitar Magazine."
He was still playing clubs w/ DTB. He laughed, & told me that Carlos had already had him over to the house to hang out, watch old videos, etc.!
Years later, Carlos finally had Derek's band open for them on a US Tour.
      Maybe 2007 or 2008.
Derek & Mike & maybe another guy came out & did several songs w/Carlos' band!
      Killer show!

I just had a detailed message that was wiped out as soon as the video ended. My ex-wife & I used to hang out backstage around the time that we got married, & the next few times that Carlos played here in St. Louis.
Carlos & his very long time first wife used to be close friends with a couple of our close friends, who had ended up in Woodland Hills, in the northern L.A. area. Phil Pierangelo was killed by a very drunk 21 year old driver, a block from their house. So, in short, we had our own incites into his approach to playing guitar, music in general, his approach to life, etc....
I have since seen or read some interviews with some of the same things that he had discussed with us with the dressing room doors closed.
As for very similar personalities, Derek & Eric Clapton were pretty incredible to spend time with before the Sep. 2006 show also including Doyle Bramhall II, Willie Weeks on bass, & Steve Jordan on drums.
Chuck Berry's son had gone with me to that Clapton show, & Steve Jordan, who had played with Eric for the Chuck Berry "Hail! Hail! Rock 'N Roll" shows here at The Fox theatre, almost tackled him when he saw "Junior" in the guitar room after Eric, Derek, then finally, Doyle II jumped in playing Delta Blues for us...& mostly for themselves for pre-show fun, & Jordan had not seen Junior since the Oct. 1986 rehearsals & 2 shows.
just fun across the board, & one of the best collective shows that I have ever seen! @@markhathaway9456

Hot damn. Carlos at Tanglewood in 1970 is the standard for me. Graham Lear back then was untouchable (watch his hardware swing from the raw power). This was a wonderfully robust although short exploration of this milestone tune.

A killer cover of a killer song, a very tight band...and Susan ends the concert showing why she is the nicest person in the world. I made a comment for a piano teacher on You Tube who was apologizing for her voice cuz of a cold. And I told her of a concert with a country great that didn't want to sing a song since her voice was showing its age. And Susan said that the people weren't there to watch perfection, they wanted to celebrate the person who gave us beautiful music all of her life. It was a great concert...as usual.

Those who know Derek&Susan music;know. As they bboth speak about often in interviews in video and print. This is their theater tour just after the Beacon which is Derek keeping AllmamBros tradition which Derek has talked about being imoortant to him with TTB. and they have established residency that began organically on DC at Warner theater a few years ago said they liked the acoustics and atmosphere there so much they made it annual'mini residency'.They just added Baltimore next doo this year which they had history playing small venues at ever since Derek&Susan Soul revue days played benefit in small Baltimore venue for Johns Hopkins children's charity.' Outdoor tour to large crowds starts in a couple months. They have and were playing to large crowds for over a decade I've Been there but Derek and the band also have roots in theaters say they like to bring that Leon Russel type 70s tour to venues small and large getting both kinds of energy from crowd Derek and Susan say they enjoy

I have known Derek & Susan since around 2000.
They prefer to play in the old theatres!
Usually great acoustics, & frequently beautiful original 1920s or earlier ornamentation.
The FOX Theatre here in St. Louis is one of their favorite stops. Plenty of great hotels, & much cheaper than places like Nashville these days, although The Ryman is a favorite for them too!

I love TTB but sadly they crucified this. Derek's guitar lead lacked nuance and flow and what happened to the keyboard part? There's a world of difference between latin percussion - congas and timbales - and relentless rock drumming. Check out the original and the interplay between Micheal Shrieve, Chepito Areas and Michael Carabello to hear it played properly.

    • @mikel5582
      @mikel5582 5 месяцев назад +2

I wouldn't say crucified but there's a reason nobody tries to cover this monster tune. My favorite version is Live At Fillmore '68.
TTB did a nice job here but Carlos and his band were untouchable at what they did in those years.
