It was fascinating watching the FO76 debacle from the outside, I had no interest in playing because I don’t like multiplayer games much, but it was incredible to see them make the wrong decision EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
My dog does the same thing. When she's falling asleep her hind legs twitch like crazy and you better no be caught in that, she's a bit over 110 pounds and it's all muscle. Not to mention her nails are quite big even when recently trimmed so she can leave a nasty scar just by accident, I myself have a couple xD

I personally don't get the rush in general. Gaming in the past got better so quickly that getting the latest versions were generally always better.(think going from fifa 98 to 99 to 2000, etc.) That hasn't been the case in over a decade. Like, I currently play Slay the Spire, Factorio and Rimworld mostly. When I'm now looking for a new game to try I don't look for just games from 2021 because why would I? There are loads of good games that are over 5 years old I haven't played yet.
bethesda didnt make new vegas, obsidian made it and bethesda published it, they had devs from the original fallout games which are more detailed and complex rpgs than the modern incarnations as well as devs that made baldurs gate. That why new vegas is by far the best of the 4 bethesda published games.

Its a very even-handed and neutral coverage, and its the most damning review of Fallout 76 I've ever heard nonetheless. It's long, but it goes past the point of the story that Internet Historian covered. I'd recommend it.

NMS was a new genre for an indie studio, overhyped and shackled to a release date by getting a publisher, had a disastrous launch but the dev team worked to fix the bugs and patch in content and mechanics to try to meet what they promised (and assumed via hype), without putting any of it as paid DLC. FO76 is the same genre that Bethesda has been making for ages, rushed to launch to join a popular fad, with no effort put in for Q&A for both the game and merchandise. There have been fixes, but their main focus has been nickel 'n' diming for content.
I thought it'd be hype at first, but me and all my mates saw the massive red flags when they announced no npcs in A FALLOUT GAME, and tried to play it off as a feature.
I actually got 76 on sale and played it recently, its not bad, its definitely a bit lacking but its not a bad fallout themed MMO, the base building and weapons were satisfying and they only issue I ever had was being harrased by high level players. Its not worth an 80 dollar price tag and it was released about 3 years too early but that considered its far from the worst game I've played. The launch is unequivocally the worst I've ever seen for a game though thats for sure.
Gonna be honest I got gifted the game by a friend a week ago Most of the game problems (not the real life shit Bethesda done, that one Is still shitty) has been fixed Wastelanders npc actually improved the game from what I can see
They couldn't make Fallout 4 online. Fallout 76 STARTED as the multiplayer version of Fallout 4. However, the team had NO idea how a multiplayer game worked. They had the Quake team from Id Software come over and help redo their engine to support multiplayer. By the time they learned how a multiplayer game worked, they finally realized that Fallout 4 would have to be made again from scratch practically in order to have a Fallout 4 Multiplayer version because the entire game was made from the ground up as a single-player game only. Absolutely nothing would have worked. So rather than scrapping the whole project that they had wasted months and months on and just cut their losses, they tried to save it by turning it into another game, and hence Fallout 76 was born. However, it was a game with no actual story, planning, organization, etc. It was all done on the fly and half-assed just to get something out before the deadline that would have originally been Fallout 4 Multiplayer. So, that's what we got.
The difference between no man's sky and Fallout 76 is that hello games actually put into work what they could to fix the game and now it's arguably just as good if not much better than what they promised initially. And even then they just bit off more than they could chew as a new company whereas Bethesda it's just greedy

Also screwed them over on bonuses by making it provisional on a 85 metacritic score. It got 84.
