Very decent video, thanks very much for making it. The oil part sucks. I did that on a huge river boat once. It took me all night to clean it. I love the GL1200. For me it's just right. And good gas mileage. I have had about 10 of them about six of them Standards. Once I road a Standard I never went back. I still have two. We have to do our own work because IMHO you sorta can't trust all the shops, if you get my drift. For safety's sake if nothing else we need to do our own maintenance and upkeep. It's a worthy crazy high mileage bike. I downloaded your video and out it goes into my shop. Thanks for making it.

Thanks for the kind words Stevie. It’s amazing how much fun and adventure you can squeeze out of these bikes for the price.

I just found a 1984 Gold Wing Interstate on fb Market place with 45,000 miles, new tires, batt , windshield and it came with a trailer. The very nice young man delivered it from a couple hrs away to my door for $2400.00 The seat has come apart at the seams so I ordered a used seat from Ebay. I bought the bike for something to ride while I'm replacing the clutch on my 2000 BMW K1200 LT.

Hope you enjoy it grouchy. Never pulled a trailer with mine but the power should be there.

Good video, I just did this and can confirm that the pulley will spring around even with the spark plugs removed. I also decided to rebuild the tensioners. Wasnt hard or expensive. One tip I would add to your veiwers is to replace the tensioner springs they are about 5 bucks from honda.

I place the R.H. Belt on the Cam Pulley first then Cable Tie the Cam pulley to the RH upright Frame Tube
Cut off when all is assembled.

Look at your rectifier if you’re running that many volts and if you have the fix. Great video. I’m diving in now

Thanks for the kudos. I know my rectifier gets pretty hot maybe I’ll try to get a measured temperature to compare. I just measured right around 4.7v from each of the three stator wires at the harness which from my research is a good thing. If I find anything to improve or test I’ll try to make a video.

Disculpa tengo una gl 1100 no prende solo avienta explosiones por el carburador y ya esta a tiempo crees que puedam ser las valvulas

If your getting combution out of the carburetors and the timing is on point it is most likely the valves. Before digging too deep it may be wise to insure the pulse generators mounted next to the crank under the valve cover are tightly screwed in.

I also have an ‘85, planning on doing the belts soon, it was a ratty bike so I’m turning into a chopper, I think I’m gonna leave the pulley’s exposed for the look, does anyone have advice on possibly advancing or retarding the timing for better power? Or should I just run on the marks

The timing changes you are talking about are not done by advancing the marks. These marks keep the valves from smashing into the piston at light speed. The timing you are looking for is the timing of the ignition which could be done by messing with the pulse generator but I’m completely uneducated in how to do that.
