    Welcome to another episode of The Eight Nine Garage. Join me on a nostalgic journey as we breathe new life into a vintage Craftsman tool box. In this video, we go through the beginnings of the restoration process. Soon we will be transforming a rusty, time-worn relic into a gleaming piece of history.
    What color would you paint this box if it was yours? Or, do I just "roll with it" as it sits? I would love to know what you would do!

    The plastic T from the bottom drawer is for split wire loom for wiring cars.

      Oh wow... that can be VERY useful. I'll have to go find that and try it out. I threw my findings in a box, and haven't looked at it since. THANK YOU!

      I like these old tool boxes too. I've been searching and hunting for the boxes that came before these models. To answer the question, most of my videos don't reach 200 views, but when I posted about Craftsman tool boxes, I was rewarded with 1,700 views.
      Many of us miss Craftsman boxes and hand tools, in the wake of the Chinese wave.

    The little key looking thing is most likely a diagnostic jumper tool for older GM cars. It looks like something I used working for a Cadillac dealership back in the late 1980s. It’s a jumper tool that you plug into the diagnostic port under the dash to retrieve trouble codes. You jumper it across the A and B pins which will cause the check engine light to flash the code.

      Indeed! I had just been to Autozone to see if they still gave those out. He kinda chuckled when I asked. Glad I found this one!

    tHanks for the video. Great price. I've been buying a bunch of older Craftsman boxes and yours was a super deal.
    Enjoy!

    I’m so old I remember when those boxes were new. I always wanted that one, they have the ball bearing drawers. I had the cheaper home storage with the red drawers. The top box I think second drawer from the bottom of the white thing you asked what it was. I believe is a soapstone for marking tires etc. Nice score! I just clean it up and leave it as is unless it looks worse in person. I like these types of videos thanks for sharing!

      @@BigStickStangs It's definitely wearing on me. I'm about to head over to HF for some drawer liner. Can't wait to get it in service!

      @BigStickStangs I bought my first box in about 1991. Still have it, and it matches the color, etc of this one. I'm guessing it's somewhere around that age.

    You made an awesome purchase, looks like an excellent deal to me! There was a couple interesting items in the drawers, honestly if you do paint it, personally I would restore using the same colors

      Thank you! Those color choices are exactly what I am leaning towards, but at the very least I need to do some rust prevention.

    What a find! That thing looked like a torch tip. Already love this project. Wild unlikely guess, is that autozone key a Schrader valve remover?

    • @89G
      @89G  3 месяца назад +1

      It's actually how you read codes on a pre-OBD2 GM vehicle. They originally gave them away at Autozone here, but started charging later on. This morning, I am kind of leaning towards doing a little rust control (POR-15) and drawer mats, then use it. Maybe staying red....
