Haha I think I should clarify something in this video, I’m in no way unhappy with the equipment I’m using! It works fine and I really like the videos I’ve been making. This is more of an explanation of how my creative strategy has changed dramatically in such a short amount of time. Best of luck to everyone getting out to create things this week, thanks for watching!
I currently use the SL2 as my video and photo camera and would definitely suggest it! It doesn't have 120fps but as someone who doesn't have a huge budget, it fits everything I need it for. I have no doubt that you would be able to do some great work with it although I won't lie, I was surprised to hear you mention it. A lot of photographers see it as a beginner camera because there's cameras like the 1DX and R5 now, but for the price the SL2 is an incredibly good camera considering the specs.
Thats my combo also. The Z50 really shocked me. The autofocus and the 4k image is very much on par with the other brands in the Z50 and Z6. Plus the Z6 partnered with atomos and gives you 4k raw, Z6 has a 6k sensor, Log, excellent low light, and still a professional photography camera. When somebody starts making an ac adapter for the Z50 all my needs will be met. There is NO reason for me to switch brands as I get more into video, except or maybe 4k60, and Nikon is addressing that later this year.
@@RanftEvan watching this a year later after Nikon released z9 which destroys every camera from Canon to Sony. Also records in ProRes too; you should be proud to be a Nikon shooter now 😂😂😂😂
I decided to stay with Nikon when going mirrorless after being with the D750 for the last two years and honestly I’m happy as hell...I don’t really let other people’s opinion get to me. Thanks for sharing this video too btw :)
I love Nikon don’t plan on switching ever and a tool is a tool always will be about how you use it and what you know how to use best to get the best results nobody should care “what you use” as long as you get the job done. Wish the photography community on RUclips really would just focus a lot more on the Art of photography and creative process and inspiring up and coming photographers like myself to just be more inspired and go out and shoot, who cares about gadgets and what’s new and whatever when there’s people using film doing such amazing things till this day. doubt anybody will read but if someone does hope they can see where I’m coming from. Great video always btw.
For what it's worth, Nikon started the video game with the D90 back in the day. To watch people's faces when they realize they were watching a video shot on an dslr back then was a super cool feeling. I did mostly concert photography so stuck with Nikon through the years, D7000 and now D610. I feel Nikon truly doesn't get the respect it deserves on the video side of things.
I've been trying to make a decision between the popular Sony A7iii and Nikon's D850. In my opinion, nothing beats the depth of Nikon unless you start looking at more expensive options like the Hasselblads. It saddens me that most people don't discuss about the differences in the artistic quality between Nikon's dslr and Sony's mirrorless. But then, the A7iii has much faster autofocus, and it is definitely much lighter...
Nikon video and I go way back. When the D90 came out in September of 2008, I picked one up that day. That was the first DSLR to do video, and I was in heaven. The video maxed out at 720, and, there was no auto-focus while shooting video. I didn't mind. I got a Sigma 30mm 1.4 and took that thing to Disneyland. I think mine were some of the first videos on RUclips of footage inside the rides. Finally, showing off full color, not having to shoot on a handycam in night vision. Also, there was no stabilization whatsoever of course. I didn't care. I knew the game had changed with the D90. Now, I've got a Z50, and just got a Z6II. They've come a long way. Great channel. Take care.
To your point at the end of the video, I appreciate that your channel is more about the creative process of Photography than the gear. I don't mind someone talking about the camera or lens they're using on a particular shot, but I tend to tune out on gear heavy discussions with no context as to how a specific piece of equipment helps them achieve what they're trying to do. Anyway, I don't feel that you do that which is one of the reasons I enjoy watching you. Thanks for taking us along with you on your Journeys.
I’m a long time Nikon fan and user. Heard the Sony cameras are better for video stuff. But dude love your videos they are very clear and clean on your Nikon. Glad I found your channel.
I bought a Z6 for video work since I already had Nikon gear for photography. I may eventually start a channel now with all this pandemic mess and you can bet I’ll be using my Z6.

Man not only am I absolutely loving your videos.. being that I live here in GA and I can find motivation through you, but also the fact that you DO use Nikon is awesome to me as well. I started with Nikon and its always slightly bothered me that most people I talk to use Canon or Sony. At the end of the day, it’s a tool and I’d rather be creative than worry about what other people are doing.
Love that you shoot videos with Nikon. A lot of people just care about the content and not what you shoot with. The only people that care about what gear you use are people on social media that want to feel validated with the gear that they have or just their gear to flex more rather than the quality of content. RUclips Gear/Photography reviewers bash any gear that they come across that hunts or doesn't focus quick enough, but I have not once stopped watching a Casey Neistat video for the odd out of focus here and there. His composition could be out, focus might be out slightly, audio a bit off, but he still attracts millions of viewers and subscribers purely because of the quality of content not so much the equipment that he uses.
I would say ever since The d810 and d750 came out the Video quality in those camera are really good! I can’t say the same for auto focus though! Now the Z6 and z7 and hopefully the S version, Nikon will be a viable option especially for hybrid users!
Love Nikon and take pictures for fun and love other Nikon users because they are great! I am a,so in the process of looking at the Z line up and probably going with the Z6 as of right now. Thanks for your videos and keep on making Nikon things happen!
I like nikon because you can adapt the lenses to any other system as long as you have manual focus control. Aperture can be controlled via adapter. I have a BMPCC for video and nikon d610 for stills. The d610 can also serve as a back up video camera.
Been following you for a couple years and your videos look pretty good chief. The colours on them are consistent with your photos, and while I shoot Sony it’s kinda refreshing to not see the “Sony” look everywhere. Just offering feedback as a viewer that video.. quality wise is pretty good. Unless there’s some stuff about the Nikon in the execution phase of making video that’s hampering you, I would say you’re all good

I have also heard excellent things about that camera. I read they're going to come out with an H2. I always liked the design of the H. I wonder what kind of video it's going to do.

The biggest complaint many have about Nikon video is the auto focus, but imo it means the camera 🎥 a designed for a camera man who understands focus length and depth of field. Which imo Nikon has the best. Why I use Nikon. I’m still learning but know understanding your mm and desired outcome, but probably not as user friendly as other models that do more of the work for you.
As long as there is a mic jack, it don't matter what you use. Although the Pentax mx1 has the best in camera mic I ever came across. Even for concerts it's great.

Evan I’ve been watching your channel a lot and certainly it’s not the tool it’s the crafter! I’ve also listened to my instinct and got myself a Z6 a year ago despite all that promo for Sony, I just liked the ergonomics and the looks better! Sure the system is still growing (faster than my bank account 🤣) but I never regretted buying it! Keep it up dude! You are an inspiration! Greetings from 🇬🇷
I’m a fellow Nikonian and I’ve been trying to do videos. I noticed that dslrs aren’t the best for videos, because they take the perfect picture-sounds weird, but to me, I think motion pictures need to be a bit foggy… I wish Blackmagic made a dedicated camera for nikon lenses :)
I like particular qualities of several different systems but I grew up with Nikon and had a good bit of glass for it. I've used Nikon for years doing video work I wasn't at all ashamed of. It's nice to see someone so skilled who does the same. I try not to fuse objects made by corporations into my identity fanboy style or anything, but I like the lenses, the image quality, and the ergonomics. The arguments against Nikon for video don't make sense to me if I'm getting the results I want. Might just rent the full frame mirrorless and see what I think-it could be like realizing the girl next door was always the one after all. : )
Taylor Jackson and Jerod polin also use Nikon for some or all video. There are plusses and minuses, but if you are a hybrid shooter with a little bent toward stills I think Nikon is pretty great. I actually prefer the colors and iq to other. Only thing I’d rather have is Leica 👍🏼
Jared Polin uses a Z6 for all his video at his studio. I have a d5600 and that my only camera and plan tonuse it for video and photo. Want to concentrate on the making it look good with knowledge rather than focusing on the gear side. Great pictures
I used Nikon for video with cameras like the D5100, D600, and D750. Similar story in that I was more photography focused at the time. That was pretty rough, at least for the videos when I needed to record myself. Botched pre-focus.. shifting enough to not be in focus, etc... ahhh. Modern sensor phase detect autofocus is such a huge thing for solo video work. The unassuming Canon Rebel SL2 was the thing that motivated me to move on from that older autofocus technology. Now with the Z series cameras and that D780, it's definitely good for solo video work unless you want something with a fully articulating screen.
its so refreshing to see you using nikon though and I always thought that, Canon and sony seem to be very hype at the minute if X is using a certain brand then X X X X X X all start using it. Thanks for staying yellow
ironically im stuck with a nikon d5100, its an old tech, very old tech. but cameras are pricey as hell, so what im supposed to do ? push the hell out of this dslr to its limits ! evan old videos timeless ! thank you !
Much like golf it’s more about what YOU can do with the equipment than the equipment itself. Enjoy using Nikon cameras, then keep using Nikon cameras. I much prefer the Z6 for hybrid shooting, largely thanks to ergonomics and ease of switching back and forth, than the A7iii but that’s MY preference.
5:50 for the reason. I have a D850, and I do not want to invest into another platfom, not even Nikon Z. I guess I need to figure out how to get it working for video recording.
You're good Evan, you're very good actually ! Never been that much interested in a photography/videos/art/inspirational channel and I've watched a lot through the years. Always huge quality content, loads of information and your getting very comfortable in front of the camera which makes this easy and fun to watch! I was following you as a photographer but must admit that I will probably follow you even more as a Pho-youtuber ;) Keep up the good work, it's pure pleasure to watch ! Peace :)

Sure the system is still growing (faster than my bank account 🤣) but I never regretted buying it! Keep it up dude! You are an inspiration! Greetings from 🇬🇷
Excellent video. Is there a Premiere LUT or tutorial to get the 709 look with the FLAT 8 Bits profile?
your videos are great dude
The new Nikon Z cameras are great for video. When it comes to photos I love my Nikon cameras.
Great work, I really love your confidence .
Love it Evan. 🤘🏻
Have a D3,D70,D810, love Nikon
I love nikon but seeing so many videos in people bashing Nikon and praising Sony and canon. Keep it up
You ROCK!
Don't know much about Nikon but would you consider moving to their mirrorless cameras?
Possibly!
The Z6 is really great, I use it for photo and video all the time, mainly photo tho.
The next Z6 will probably be just perfect :D
Video starts at 4:00
Same. I shoot Nikon for video because I have thousands of dollars of Nikon N lenses invested from my retired Photography biz.
Bro, I film on Nikon too, D810. I just need the rumored Z8 lol. I need dual cards and actually good AF lol. Dope video man 🤙🏽
Bruh you were in my hometown of Gainesville! Man I could tell you some stories about that pink building and surrounding area.
Only thing I’d rather have is Leica 👍🏼
i just moved to gainesville two weeks ago! that’s wild
would love to head out for a photo adventure if you’re this way again.
Thanks for staying yellow
ironically im stuck with a nikon d5100, its an old tech, very old tech. but cameras are pricey as hell, so what im supposed to do ? push the hell out of this dslr to its limits ! evan old videos timeless ! thank you !
I will suggest you buying a webill S gimbal
Great images......good job!!
BTW: WHO DAT
Yo your broll is getting dope -er by the video 🔥
Much like golf it’s more about what YOU can do with the equipment than the equipment itself. Enjoy using Nikon cameras, then keep using Nikon cameras. I much prefer the Z6 for hybrid shooting, largely thanks to ergonomics and ease of switching back and forth, than the A7iii but that’s MY preference.
5:50 for the reason.
I have a D850, and I do not want to invest into another platfom, not even Nikon Z. I guess I need to figure out how to get it working for video recording.
I’m a Nikon user. D7500 & Z6 So no your not the only one. It’s good being different.
💯
You're good Evan, you're very good actually ! Never been that much interested in a photography/videos/art/inspirational channel and I've watched a lot through the years. Always huge quality content, loads of information and your getting very comfortable in front of the camera which makes this easy and fun to watch!
I was following you as a photographer but must admit that I will probably follow you even more as a Pho-youtuber ;)
Keep up the good work, it's pure pleasure to watch !
Peace :)
