I first started watching your channel with your videos about painting wood grain on metal panels with a spray paint and a brush. I was hooked just from there on. The sputniks builds were probably my favorite builds, but I really liked the cactus sign too...there's too much to pick absolute favorite...
You probably won't read this, but craftsmanship aside, your editing skills are super awesome! You turning off the lights as the sign is put up infront of the gate only to show us the lit up sign in a very calming environment outside. Super lovely! ❤
When you do these types of projects, I am reminded so much of the time I worked in a shop that did scenery & electronics for television game shows in L.A./Hollywood. We used those same twist-connect light sockets by the _hundreds_ on some sets. Any time you see "chasing" incandescent light bulbs on an old game show, it was most likely made using those same sockets. Wago connectors didn't exist back then, so most connections were made using cinch terminal blocks. Your neon mounting & wiring looks _exactly_ like how we used to do it. Your top-notch work gets in the feels, Wesley!
I love these videos! My dad was an old-school signmaker who started out in the mid-50s. I remember when I was a kid in the 60s & 70s watching him make signs very similar to these, with neon tubes and chaser lights. (with the old motorized chaser switch units) Even though he hated computers with a passion, he would have loved that you are keeping the old Googie and Dingbat style alive!
Was expecting an amazing build - was not expecting a song to get stuck in my head that I can't stop laughing enough to explain. Yeesh. They already think I'm nuts . Thanks man!
Its nice that you have access to a neon sign maker, this whole time I thought you were secretly a master of a dying art and not talking about it for some reason.
3:05 I don't know if most viewers realize how freaking smart this step is. Use the portion of robo-cut edge as a guide for the bearing on a straight cutting bit to clean off the "nubs" (I don't know what you call those pieces). Big brain thinking!
WOW!! I did not know you were in Dallas....I worked as a roughneck on oil wells in Abilene the summer of my Senior year at The Hill School. The same school Nelson and Bunker Hunt went to school....Hardest work I ever did and hardest play I ever played...lol...-John
I really appreciate the intro, very inspiring. With projects like this, I often think "I wouldn't even know where to start!" Oh yeah, a lot of time scrolling through fonts and playing with kerning. ^_^
Beautiful sign. I personally hate working with expanded pvc. Such a pain to get the cut edges smooth enough for a detail piece that'll be seen up close.
Very amazingly done. Hopefully the future owners get great use out of it and enjoy it for many years to come. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
Thanks. The GTO wire that connects the sections of neon can only be run a particular way and must be kept as short as possible. There's nowhere to hide them. Look at any neon beer sign and you'll see the same connections. It's just how neon works.
I tried them on a lighting project recently. They really are slick, and the current rating is quite impressive, but they sure don't feel very solid. I haven't set up a test to run 30A through them for an extended period of time, but I dont trust the plastic latches to hold up. We used to have spring loaded 'poke-in' receptacles which loosened up over time and caused arcing and sparking inside of the wall. They almost burned my uncle's house down, and hopefully explains some of the North American apprehension. I prefer sturdy screws, crimps, and wire nuts, they've been proven not to come loose for generations.
@@WesleyTreat Oh, of course. Now I’m embarrassed! Obviously my mind was just stuck in the gutter again. Thank you for sharing. I always enjoy seeing your videos.
Wesley, do you really think you should be allowed to own and operate a jet pack? I refer you to your own "incident" sign! You're much safer on the ground...
Came here to see the neon being done and all I get is "I got these guys to do it". Big letdown. Coulda showed the interesting bits. Sorry, printing shapes you made in illustrator is not the interesting part.

I love that aesthetic. Actual neon is such a cool touch.

That turned out great. I appreciate you showing your design process in illustrator as well.
Very cool sign. I think the star's should have a bulb in the center also. There is a small shadow. But all your stuff you make is amazing.
Thanks! It was in the original design, but there's not room there at this size. I discuss it more on Patreon in the upcoming breakdown.
Beast!
This was the first ad I haven't jumped over in a LONG time. Worth it! ;)
You make everything look easy! The sign turned out gorgeous - I wouldn’t expect any less from you.
Wow love it! Neon signs are so cool. I'm glad I found your channel with all the amazing things you create
Thanks!

They're called tabs in most software. I only recently realized I could do it that way instead of taking them to the belt sander.
@@WesleyTreat 12vtools makes these crazy 4 and 6 bearing flush trim bits the car stereo guys use. they are amazing!!!
Loved it mate. I wish you posted more often.
Super cool! It’s great you have these interesting opportunities to make the stylish signs.
Superb Sign! Im glad these are still done today, great style. Great looking old school sign. Fantastic as always. Thanks for sharing..
I greatly appreciate your excellent spray painting technique 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Nice work! I really like the Starburst lights.
Moldova looks a lot like Munson Indiana
I am blown away each time!
Love your content!

you are so good at this!
Another great project! I need the "Days Without" sign, but with maybe "Hours Without" ... thanks for the great content!
I absolutely love this piece!
Thanks!
Beautiful work as always.
This sign is sooooooo goooood Wesley, and lots great tips I'll be using for my work! What type of light globes did you fit - G45?
Thanks! They were G40 LED filament.
As always love your videos and skills. Thanks for sharing.
Great piece ad usual. Love to see more neon signs here in Italy. Cheers buddy
What a beautiful retro sign 👍
And thank you for the Europa friendly upload 🇩🇰
Hahaha!! The Moldova server is the one I use the most, followed by Romania... all of my youtube ads are in Romanian. 🤣🤣
Oh. ..and... love your work!!
So Cool,. Thanks for sharing

Awesome work!!!
GORGEOUS!!!!!
Thank you, sir.

Thanks. I find one-part Bondo spot putty works well.
You got a like before I finished the video! Awesome stuff, Wesley.
So enjoyable to watch buddy
Great film as always. Beautiful sign. I hope neon never dies. Can kids read cursive today? Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒
The jet packs are definitely here..check out Gravity Industries.
Someone should summon Big Clive. He loves neon.
Very cool video! Quick question if you don't ming, is there a particular paint and primer you reccomend for painting the expanded pvc?
Thanks! I use Zinsser 1-2-3 for pretty much everything. Top coat is usually Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch rattle cans or Benjamin Moore Regal exterior.
Another great vid!
Can I ask a weird ? ?
How do you get those fantastic signs to where they need to go? Do you load them up in your personal jet or what, Wesley?
Depends on the project. Sometimes UPS, sometimes uShip. There are 4 signs in this batch, so I've got them up on uShip.
Damn you do some nice work!
Thanks!
Damn your good!!
not using easel anymore for your cnc? those triangular tabs are nice 😀
I use Vectric VCarve a lot, with UGS as my sender. Easel Pro can do a lot of what most people need to do, though, and it's much cheaper. 👍
Well Wesley, I don't know where they originally came from but the entire world is now using your editing techniques. Bet you didn't see that coming.
No time to watch this today, just leaving a comment to say I love your builds and I love your videos
Would have figured you for an inkscape man.
Lever-Nuts getting the extreme closeup.
First time I've used them. They're great for keeping a lot of wires neat.
what was the white starbust material?
Expanded PVC sheet
SO where does one get expanded PVC sheet?
Local plastics supplier
Fascinating Wesley, and I only just started watching :) Thanks
4.5 seconds??? Legend
Cool

WAGO connectors in the USA!!! You don't offen see them in YT.

RUclips is such crap... I am subscribed and have set to all notifications but still 5 days late seeing this video...
I have a feeling this is happening a lot with this video. Thanks for finding it!
Rad.
congrats. Painting the aluminum frame a flat black would help it be less obvious..
Only when it's completely dark out. Besides, the frame is part of the esthetic. It isn't meant to be invisible.
Might even touch a what? 😆
It's a type of bird 😉
