First time I heard this i was a roughly 14/15 year old metal-head from St. Louis and THIS riff, this song blew my mind on the 1st- take !!! Could not believe my ears. On par with intro to VH-Aint Talkn Bout Love , Dire Straights Money For Nothin', Sweet Child O' Mine, and very few others .(to this degree)

TRY TO IMAGINE how excited Mark was when he was writing this riff....then imagine his bandmates and their reaction after hearing this for the first time. Imagine the PRIDE of writing THIS ! Surely they KNEW they had an instant hit on their hands. Sadly, i have a feeling it wouldvd done better on the charts if it came from a bigger/more famous band like a Motley Crue or a Guns-N-Roses. Yet i highly doubt any other band wouldve NAILED this tone...and the tone used for this song is 20% of what makes it a masterpiece. As a riff-writer myself, I am so envious of this piece of work.
