Thinking back, this was the start of the end. Removing Aegon who is becoming a huge deal in the books and trying to make Varys's plan about supporting Daenerys meant D&D had to keep writing the clever characters themselves. And they are not clever writers.
Even knowing how it ends, I get chills when Varys says "Who said anything about him" and the music starts. Then of course Tyrion's deadpan reply (he did NOT get chills) 😂
This scene is what keep me invested and hoping that it would be Tyrion who ends up being the King at the end. A poetic journey that will prove his family and those who underestimated him.
The way Varys spoke- it sounded like he was serving a higher power. Would’ve been cool if it was revealed he was a many faced man, or a secret red priest.
@professorparanoia436he did not. read a book - he always manipulated things to his own benefit, he didn’t care about the people, that’s why he killed Kevan Lannister
Fun fact: in the books Tyrion does sit on the iron throne when he's serving as hand of the king for Joffrey. He put laxatives in Cersei's drink so she would be too busy to bother him and he's also the one that gave Joffrey the new crossbow with the lever to load it faster and he was distracted playing with that which gave Tyrion the opportunity to actually sit on the iron throne. He found it weird seeing the tops of everyone's heads(the iron throne is gigantic in the books and however many steps you think it would take to reach the top it would be more than that)
Varys was a true patriot. He is a pragmatist, willing to do terrible things when nesseceary. But he was one of the few whose intentions were truly selfless.
Varys was the cold, calculating, logical heart of the entire story. Everyone else allowed their emotions to cloud their judgment, ultimately leading to the avoidable deaths of thousands.
Tyrion would never be the cause of Varys death, the bond of this two is more than friend, but brotherhood, the writing really off the rail when they decided to make Varys died because of Tyrion snitching him.
They build the most epic team up ever only to executed so poorly Tyrion is totally useless for daenerys, well atleast in the 7th and 8th season. Somehow he stop ever since he met dany being the smartest guy
Funny how this played out - Tyrion did outlast every single one of Danys advisors, and was the key player in putting Bran on the throne, finally achieving some semblance of peace. Meaning, Varys made the correct choice here!
Yes, the powerful have feasted on the powerless. Yes, they got powerful and rich from it. But the good ones, the ones with a quality purpose that goes beyond themselves, they expanded and invited their adversaries to the table. And let the powerless have a measure of power over their own peaceful lives.
Caraxas and Vhagar meet in the air, and as Vhagar’s jaws rip out the Blood Wyrm’s stomach, so does Caraxes rip out her killer’s throat and they begin their descent into the God’s Eye. As four dragons fell, Daemon, being the only one who did not bind himself to his saddle, leaps from the back of his red-winged beast and unto Vhagar, plunging his Valeryian Steel sword, Dark Sister, hilt-deep into his nephew’s one remaining eye. The truth of Prince Daemon’s demise is lost to time, as is his predecessor’s armor.
Good dialog writing, good drama. Good cinemagraphics... but the drama gets written into a corner and then some miracle happens and all the ice walkers drop dead, etc. It's even in the books... Suddenly ever faction has a dragon except the Iron Born, who have a magic dragon horn.
We ask the HBO channel crew to work on a series about the story and events of Aegon the Conqueror, the dragon of Balarion, and Aegon’s wives and their dragons. Thank you.
This scene is when D&D killed both Varys and Tyrion both. To think, what these two are in book five and what this show turned them into is just shuddering
Funny how after Tommen jumped and Stannis died, Cersei is the usurper of Dany/Jon who have the strongest claim based on closest relation to house Baratheon
For me, I enjoyed the slow burn of the series. Not rushing through dialogue, always wondering what the other was up to. Having characters be fleshed out so you were more interested in them. The series could have gone 10-12 seasons and I would have been happy if they kept it that way instead of killing off characters they spent 7 seasons building.
Dany was supposed to be greater than Aegon the Conqueror, instead the show runners destroyed her character and her legacy. They also destroyed Varys and Tyrion’s characters… I wish I could just wipe seasons 7 and 8 from my memory.
@@nitinkapoor1369 it is one of the greatest because of those 7 seasons, one season can't ruin much, not even one as bad as that 8th one, they would probably need to make 4,5 extra seasons as bad as 8 to become a bad show...just this sequence shows how great it was
D&D really ran this ship into the ground once they ran out of better material to adapt and failed to learn how it was developed after years of opportunity to do so.
These two had some of the best dialogues in the series.
And later on, some of the worst

Tyrion and Bronn.

Varys is his only intellectual rival and Tyrion learns a lot from Varys.

This is what Game of Thrones is to me. Witty yet powerful dialogue between great actors.
Better yet, delivered by two men playing British though neither were born British. Master class in acting, if you ask me
Varys was the most sensible person on this show.
Agreed and what they did to his character was despicable.😡
Everything that varys described to be an ideal ruler doesnt apply to bran. I really dont know how anyone could think that bran is the best choice.
