    2:40 As a sales guy and someone who's done a lot of hiring I understand this issue. Most business owners don't understand that hiring top talent actually becomes a "sales" skill/process. If you approach this using a sales mindset, you'll do a lot better at attracting top talent (that is, people who aren't just coming for a "job" but to learn and grow with the company). Your interviewing then becomes a "sales call" i.e. you probe them on how important prestige is for them, what they're giving up by "staying on the bench" at their current company (e.g. career progression, money, growth, leadership skills, social impact) then you contrast it with your company and detail how they could be leading others, getting more pay, having their decisions have more impact in the industry, possibly overtaking their current company in the future etc. This isn't really about them not wanting responsiblity, it's about them thinking and feeling they're going backwards in their career by joining you: going from Man U to QPR is too many steps back -- your job is to frame it as going from Man U to getting in early at the next Liverpool or Arsenal.

    Brother its time to focus on yourself and empower those that you trust around you. Not only would you make a fantastic father but a incredible roll model. I chased the dream of excess but once our miracle boy was born i gave up a incredible job and career and did nothing but focused on our boy for the first year of his life. In that time I bought into a Organic Beef farm and started running a microbrewery as well all by chance. We're not wealthy but full of wealth that were in control of what we do and that the money will come and go but we have dignity and respect of all those around us. Love to all the Asheville Family ♥️

    Daniel, when you talked about having a family I felt your plight and earlier I had thought about you having a family on your side to help you build the business coz from the videos, it's your passion. I personally started going to site with my kids once they started walking at an earlier age as little as one and half. I just pray for you to get a partner who you will share your passion in this business and bring up your off springs to continue the legacy you have started.
    I wish you a manageable New Year 2022 ahead.

I am also a business owner and finding loyal committed staff is the single most frustrating thing i also face in business right now. but Tezza is just "serious" you gotta hold on to him Dan. keep up the good work guys. also really like that you have such a good relationship with your competitors thats how it should be. there is enough business for everybody.

  • @nova_kane
    @nova_kane 2 года назад +6

    Honestly Daniel, you could pay me premier league money and I wouldn't want to work in some porta-office hut at a muddy yard all day. Before you're able to recruit top talent, you need to make the work environment competitive with the big boy yards. I'm talking nice offices, mud-free yards, facilities for food, rest and hosting. This is standard at the places people want to work at and there's no point complaining about it.

In 2022 it would be cool to hear that you have made him Director and a minority shareholder....he gives Ashville soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much and he is a GIANT!!!! If you want to grow your business you need to employ and engage GIANTS!!! Recruit folk better than you and are giants in their own right and you will definitely make Ashville a market leader!!!! You can do it Daniel!!!!

    If you can spare the space I'd recommend spacing your hoppers further apart and having a flat belt on the incline. You can fit some starcleans on them to keep your belts clean and minimise material losses on the belt returning. Chevrons are notoriously hard to keep clean (we always have to dig out the tail drum of our incline)

    Business expansion suggestion: BUY & BUILD STRATEGY - Acquire other businesses that you can integrate with Ashville using a combination of private equity/investor cash and commercial debt finance (and yes you can acquire businesses larger than your own). You will grow exponentially over the next 5 to 7 years if you acquire a number of small/medium/large sized businesses and then sell your entire holding company to a large corporate company, or go public on stock market via IPO. There is no reason you cannot aim to sell up in the end for several hundred millions £ or even in the £Billion range. Many have been successful with this strategy. THINK BIG!

    Things like giving employees benefits like Christmas off through to the 5th might help you battle against the bigger boys in the business. I know personally In the engineering field people are starting to look more at benefits and things like no forced overtime or lower ammounts as following the covid lockdowns people have started to realise how much family time they can miss out on!

    That moment about being the favorite buncle is real. Owning a business takes and takes as much as it gives and it's a constant struggle to balance any semblance of personal life. The best is to create the systems that ultimately take you out of the business so you can participate on your own terms, crazy journey huh?

    Hi Danial,
    being a dad is hard work. You have to invest a lot of time into your children. They look up to you as a hero. It's the best when they just come up to you, ask for a hug and say I love you.
    I'm nowhere near the same level of stress that you have. Be careful you don't burn yourself out.
    In the past, I use to never trust that people could do the task/job as well as myself. You have to let go. Yes, finding the right people will help. The thing that I found the most beneficial was communication. What I expect, progress reports, review post task/job. What went well and what did not work well. Constant cycle of improvement. Have you thought about asking your employees where they want to be in 1, 2, 5 years? Maybe some of your employees can step up with the right training.
    Finding new employees is like, come work for me and this is what you will do but also these are the benefits we offer.
    Have you thought of looking to consultant companies that specialize in business strategies to move forward?
    What happens if you get sick and can't work for 1-2 months can the company continue to operate?
