- Sempach is characterised by its beautiful historic old town, the beautiful location on Lake Sempach and the battlefield in the heart of Switzerland.
The small town was originally used by the Habsburgs to control the lakeshore of the former Gotthard route. Sempach became famous for the Battle of Sempach, in which the Confederates won a decisive victory over the Habsburgs in 1386. The well-preserved historic old town of Sempach, the town wall, which has been preserved in sections, the witches' tower and the Lucerne Gate bear witness to the town's former fortifications.
There is a spacious park on the shores of Lake Sempach, which invites visitors to stroll along the lake and go on an ornithological excursion to the bird observatory.
