- Maienfeld is a beautiful village in the Heidiland region of Switzerland. The beautiful village surrounded by vineyards in the Bündner Herrschaft is the place of arrival in Switzerland in the novel Heidi by Johanna Spyri. Above Maienfeld is the Heididorf and Heidi tourism brings tourists from all over the world to the community.
Viticulture is the largest branch of the economy and the main variety cultivated is Pinot Noir. The Schloss Salenegg vineyard is considered the oldest still existing vineyard in Europe.
The old town of Maienfeld with the remains of the town wall, Brandis Castle and Salenegg Castle are places of interest and listed in the inventory of Swiss sites worthy of protection as being of national importance.

Maienfeld ist ein Dorf in der Region Heidiland in der Schweiz. Das schöne Dorf, umgeben von Weinbergen in der Bündner Herrschaft, ist der Ort der Ankunft in der Schweiz im Roman Heidi von Johanna Spyri. Oberhalb von Maienfeld liegt das Heididorf und der Heidi-Tourismus bringt Touristen aus der ganzen Welt in die Gemeinde.
Der Weinbau ist der grösste Wirtschaftszweig und die wichtigste angebaute Sorte ist der Pinot Noir. Der Rebberg von Schloss Salenegg oberhalb von Maienfeld gilt als der älteste noch bestehende Rebberg Europas.
Die Altstadt von Maienfeld mit den Resten der Stadtmauer, Schloss Brandis und Schloss Salenegg sind Sehenswürdigkeiten und im Inventar der schützenswerten Ortsbilder der Schweiz von nationaler Bedeutung aufgeführt.

@@swisssights Die "Bündner Herrschaft" ist bekannt für ihre Weine. Allerdings sollte man die etwas teureren Flaschen wählen. Meine Grosseltern dort oben waren auch im Weinbau tätig. Habe als Kind jeweils fleissig mitgeholfen :)
