Had this sled a couple seaaons ago and switched to a Rossi Jib Elite because of that slow speed twitch. I just didn't get along with it. But it was a beauty otherwise. This review is effing spot on. Capita's textured bases are unreal, best in the industry far as I can tell. Kinetic energy was there underfoot, more reactive and not quite as damp and stable as the Jib Elite but still solid. But gawddammmm the speed was ridiculously awesomated. Only my Stratos has a similar speed but I think the Merc still took the title. For any dudes curious I had it paired with Cartel X's and that was sick, but I think a Bataleon binding woulda been even better for some sweet dampening.
I have the predecessor to the Mercury, the Totally FK’n Awesome. Mine is light (back in the day they used the higher end bamboo core). Got on it again last winter and the thing I noticed is how easy it is to ride compared to the fully cambered boards I have been on recently. It really takes the mental load off so you can concentrate on your riding more. The twitch is real. You just need to get used to it. You don’t have the beautiful carves of a cambered board, or the pop, but it felt super comfortable and just made me more confident riding hard. What’s interesting is that whereas a cambered board wants to lock you into a fixed arc, this sidecut allows you to tighten up or lengthen out your carves without thinking, which makes it really manoeuvrable on the fly, like if you’re lining up a takeoff in choppy snow. Capita really discovered some secret sauce with this shape, and it’s no wonder so many pros are still riding it. A true classic.
thanks for this review i love watching your videos ! an idea for a future top 5 video i would love to see is 'top 5 old school boards' maybe boards they dont make any more which you remember from back in the old school days :D that would be a really fun interesting video ! anyway thanks for the consistent content and helping the snowboarders of the internet keep shredding

hey hey, thanks for your no BS approach. it’s refreshing. 5’7”, 170lb lower level intermediate rider here looking to progress. i’ve been frustrated/intimidated by tracked out cruddy mid-afternoon conditions at crowded resorts. some of this is skill, some might be my gear. your reviews have led me to jones frontier, ride shadowban, and this mercury. im good on blue groomers, want to progress to some steeper terrain, perhaps some easier bowls in colorado, and get better at riding the cruddy stuff. i don’t want to bite off more than i can chew with board selection. advice?
It's a great allmountain Snowboard not a freestyle imo. It is for someone who likes to ride piste, powder, hit some park occasionaly, jumps and wants to have one board. Death grip feels catchy when flat basing, board wants to stay on adge all the time but on the other hand grips well on hard and icy snow. The only problem with this board is since it does everything well, the other boards in your quiver stop making any sens.
Looking for a size suggestion. I’m a good intermediate rider, 170 to 175 lbs.i ride mountain freeride, not a park or rail guy. I’m 5’10 and a 9.5 size boot. I have Union force bindings in a medium. What size do you recommend? I already have the mega death in a 159, wanting a daily driver as well.
Im in between picking up a mercury or a yes typo. both are on sale, I can safe an extra 100 on the typo. All mountain freestyle rider. I enjoy carving, side hits and also progressing my buttering skills. This season I rode an arbor west mark rocker but I want a slightly stiffer board with camber that holds an edge better. I'm 5'6 140lbs. which you going with? Also considered the wired directive but I worry how that does in powder if I bring it out west.
I know you like the ride shadowband, how does it compare to the typo? Im thinking the shadowband floats better in the pow but is a bit harder to press. Being a lighter rider, I worry about buttering on the shadowband especially later in the day when I'm tired. I do plan to take this board out west which is why I want to board to be versatile. is the typo at least decent in moderate pow? thanks, the videos are top tier!@@AngrySnowboarder
Hi, great review and thanks for your effort. Sounds really great to do it all. I will wait if you drop a review of the mega merc to take my choice. But at the moment I think the normal Mercury will be my choice for a all day board.
I have this bad boy on my wall looking at me since summer when I bought it, can’t wait to finally ride it on Sunday! Coming from a 6 year old Burton Process, I think the pop will be awesome in the Merc. Thanks for the great review!
Whats up Angry Snowboarder! I Live in Alberta Canada where conditions can very between great powder days to ran through groomers which is why iv'e always stuck to an all mountain board. Im an advanced rider who enjoys bombing the hill as well as finding side hits, ripping through trees and surfing through powder on the days it's there! I currently have a 2021 Salomon assassin 158W which I really do love. I think the one thing the board is lacking for my specific riding style is the lack of energy the board has, it knocks everything out of the park but im looking for a little bit better edge hold without sacrificing too much on the playful side. The mercury is definitely a board I have been considering but I would love to hear your opinion! I do play around in the park here and there but its not a focal point of my riding, although I hit the jumps from time to time. Im 6 feet tall 160 lbs with a 10.5 boot size and medium Salomon bindings. Looking forward to your'e feedback!

Thanks for the great review. I am really close to buy this one, i am still thinking about the super DOA as well. I am 200 pounds and a size 12, will the 160W be big enought for me? Also how does this compare to the Super DOA, cant really find any comparing these two boards.
It's not as light due to the construction, it's a directional twin, it doesn't have the same rebound due to the core components. With a size 12 you're definitely going to need a wide.
Hey 👋🏼 Thanks for a great review. You really helped me a lot to make the right choice. Would really appreciate if you help me with sizing mate. I’m 182lbs, 5’9 and US9,5-10. Another question. Will this board match with Nidecker bindings and Boots (Rifs)? Thanks a lot in advance
Hey Avran, I'm considering picking one of these up this season. I'm a 40 year old rad-dad living in the Midwest that will be cruising all over the resort. What size would you recommend? I'm 195lbs with a size 11 boot. At what point would you consider going to a wide?
Hey Angry, I’m almost certain I’m buying this board, but hear a lot about how it’s catchy and tough at slower speeds. I want something that can handle speed better than my Assassin, but don’t want to be in a tough spot if I’m having chill laps with my less experienced friends. Think this is too much board if I wanted to take it easy? (I’m probably right in the middle of intermediate, maybe early intermediate)
@@emretopal1233 ended up demoing it and really really liked it. A bit of work at slow speeds but not a serious issue. Ended up going with the Burton Deep Thinker though. Just liked it more personally
Current daily driver is Shadowban 157. Love the board, but tend to boot out on deeper carves. Considering the Merc 156W, but at 170-180 lb I'm near the top of Capita's reommended weight range for that size. Do you think the 156W would suffice or should I go for the 158W? Othe suggestions welcome as well.
Hey man we appreciate you answering all the questions🙌. I was wondering what size board I should get if I’m about 5’8 125 pounds. I wear a size 9.5 boot.
Seems like I found my quiver. 6'2 185lbs 11-11.5 boot size. Picking up the select pro's based on your req. Do you think the 161 with a waist width of 26.1 would be wide enough for not too much toe and heel hang? Tyia
Hey Avran! I bought this board based on your review and some self researching. I am 6'2'', around 188 lbs, size 12, intermediate rider mostly riding groomers, a little bit of sidehits, trees and switch. I was trying to decide between 158W and 160W and in the end went for 160W. Was 158W a better option since the board is still in the return policy window? Thanks and keep up the great work!
@@mhb627 Rode it last season and didn't notice any toe or heel drag even on aggressive carves on 160W (toes and heels hang a bit off the board but had no issues with that). Used it with Step Ons and Burton IONs size 12, also with Union Atlas and an old pair of K2 Maysis (which have a smaller footprint than Burton Ion).
Big fan, appreciate the review. Stuck in between the 158W + 160W and hoping for some guidance; 6ft tall and 195-200 lbs + 11.5 boot. I've read some comments from owners of this board recommending sizing down a bit due to the width already associated. Appreciate any help!
How would you compare this board to something like the Jones Stratos. I am a pretty aggressive intermediate to advanced rider that rarely does park. Which would you recommend?
Thanks for your great reviews. I tried last year’s Mercury and l thought it was pretty solid. I’m looking to upgrade from a 10 yr old Burton Process and would love to hear your recommendations. I’m 6 1, 190 lb, 11.5 boots. I mostly ride groomers, like side hits, trees and pow whenever possible. I’d like to improve switch riding and add some other tricks. Thanks

Hey Avran! I’m 6’0 tall and weight 210lb. The board specs says I should get the 160W, but I’m thinking in get the 158W, to have a more versatile all around board, specially for park. Do you think the 158W can handle my weight or should I go with the plank?
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks for the fast reply! For mostly (euro) on-piste boarding, carving/bombing, lil powder on the side of the piste, rarely in the park, would you pick mercury, jones MT, or the resort twin? Will be my only board for 7-14 days of boarding per year.
Ehy i cant decide from goliath and mercury. In case of the mercury inshould get the 157 or 159? Im 1.70 tall and 90kg is a problem is the mercury max range 87 the 157
Hey man, I'm currently riding a 2019 mountain twin and looking for a new board. So thing with more pop, better speed and better on a carve. Do you think this would be an upgrade or would it be pretty similar? What else would you recommend? Other boards I'm interested in.. Bsod Stratos UMT Mind expander / UME Mega merc Mega death What do you think?
Goliath is a little more damp and feels just a hair stiffer from outside the inserts through the middle. You also have different edge engagement because of the 3BT. The Mercury has a quicker edge bite and feels more secure on firm to icy snow.
@@AngrySnowboarder would you say the mercury, given its rocker structure at top and tail is also somewhat “forgiving” when edging errors occur? I have been riding the b whatever 2019 model since it came out, and would like to change to something which is a bit faster and more responsive, while still being “forgiving” when one doesnt pay much attention, on flat runs etc.
The only thing to know is that at slower speeds the Mercury can feel a little twitchy on the sidecut for some people. This one I didn't feel as much as I have the previous versions.
I’m 5’7 145lbs 8.5 Boot Looking at the 150/154 Custom 150/153 Mercury I ride mainly groomers and park, but wanted something that can ride powder/freeride style.
Great review! I’m upgrading as an intermediate rider here in the northeast and am trying to decide between the DOA and the Merc. I’m not really a park guy, more into cruising groomers and floating in and out of the glades. Is the Merc more that type of board when compared to the DOA? Thanks man and keep up the great content!
@@AngrySnowboarder This would be my first Capita (coming from Burton). I’m currently riding a 154 which the Merc doesn’t have. Would upping to a 157 be a huge difference? I could do 155 I guess which is close enough.
I've got both the Sickstick & Mercury, they do overlap but the latter is more appropriate for resort runs under normal conditions I feel. The Sickstick can carve incredibly on groomers, but it can be twitchy & definitely prefers the deep stuff.
hey I'm about an early intermediate and want an all mnt board that can handle powder. I was debating between this and the t rice pro. I feel like this is a better board but the t rice is a little more beginner and may be easier to handle? I was thinking 157 since im 5'10 about 200lb and wear a size 10 boot. Any thoughts?
Do you suggest normal sizing? I am 5'10, 180lbs, size 10.5 boot. I normally ride between 156-158 but its 155 or 157 in this case (155 seems a bit small, unless the board is designed to size a bit down?).

Do some park, medium kickers , some jibbing but looking to do some.more off piste freeriding this year and need soething that will be half decent in pow. From your reviews both will do the job and do it well.. Would you reccomend either board over the other?

the 158w is a big mountain dream machine and will destroy resorts of fat skier families, u can tell that board charges hard, is it the hardest charging board ever made ? a red and black bottom option would be ideal

i whas looking at the jones mauntain twin but i am not sure it can take the speed can you give me some advice on what the mercury is about compared to the jones or are there better conteders for me.
thanx and all the best from europe! netherlands?.
They can both take speed.
I’m planning to pair this board with the union Stratas. Hoping to dampen it a little. Are they a decent binding for this board? Plan on all mountain and occasional park (70/30).
I'd go with the Force over it for this board.
Right on. Thanks
hey avran, is the new force enough binding to drive the 24 kazu?
Yeah, but the Atlas would probably be better.
157-159
Thanks a lot! Do you thing this board match with Nidecker supermatic bindings?
You can do anything you want without needing my validation.
Shadowban vs Merc, which do you prefer? Looking for a board that can charge the whole mountain but can be ridden laid back when I want to
I own a Shadowban.
In between this and a Rossignol One 159.
Im 5'10 175 size 9 boot.
Pairing with union stratas or k2 editions.
Thoughts?
The One is more damp all the way around. Also slightly stiffer overall. I'd do Editions.
@AngrySnowboarder thanks, appreciate it!
Hey Avran, I'm considering picking one of these up this season. I'm a 40 year old rad-dad living in the Midwest that will be cruising all over the resort. What size would you recommend? I'm 195lbs with a size 11 boot. At what point would you consider going to a wide?
Go with the wide, it'll make you a radder dad when you don't boot out or stomp a landing. I'd say probably want something in the 157 to 162ish range.
Does the 24’ model of the k2 antidote change from the 23’ model? Found a 61w for sale and I’m kinda digging it.
Then buy it.
what is the overhaul that they did?
Are you going to be reviewing the yes boards?
Eventually.
Your call not mine.
@@AngrySnowboarderfair! Just seems people give warnings about this thing all the time. Can’t hurt to give it a try.
@@jamesbailey9977 How did it turn out, is it still good at slow speeds?
@@emretopal1233 ended up demoing it and really really liked it. A bit of work at slow speeds but not a serious issue. Ended up going with the Burton Deep Thinker though. Just liked it more personally
Current daily driver is Shadowban 157. Love the board, but tend to boot out on deeper carves. Considering the Merc 156W, but at 170-180 lb I'm near the top of Capita's reommended weight range for that size. Do you think the 156W would suffice or should I go for the 158W? Othe suggestions welcome as well.
I’d go 58w
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks
Is the Death Grip similar across the other boards as far as slow speed goes? Does that Resort Twin feel the same?
It's different on every board based on the flex, sidecut, and camber profile.
Hey man we appreciate you answering all the questions🙌. I was wondering what size board I should get if I’m about 5’8 125 pounds. I wear a size 9.5 boot.
Low 150's.
Which does better in pow Shadowban or Mercury ?
Equal.
Seems like I found my quiver. 6'2 185lbs 11-11.5 boot size. Picking up the select pro's based on your req. Do you think the 161 with a waist width of 26.1 would be wide enough for not too much toe and heel hang? Tyia
Depends on the boot.
Go ride.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply.
do your toes or heels hang off the board? i feel like the size 12 boot is wider than the 160w 26.5 width?
Grab the 60 and go shred.
Mercury or dynamo? for daily driver, side hit hitting,
Hard pack and choppy riding. Like Colorado’s current conditions?
Sure.
How would you compare this board to something like the Jones Stratos. I am a pretty aggressive intermediate to advanced rider that rarely does park. Which would you recommend?
It’s a lot softer, engages a turn different, is more all mountain focused.
Outside of the graphic is this any different than last years model?
New base tune.
Hi, how do you compare Mercury and nitro team in terms of carving & turning? Will Mercury be much better in powder due to the rocket noise?
I'd rather ride the Mercury for all of that.
Thanks
I’d recommend trying out the burton process!
57w mercury wouldn't be a bad option, maybe a ride Shadowban, or a Yes Typo.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks. Only hearing great things about the Shadowban. Any bindings recommendation?
There's literally 3 binding recommendations on the Shadowban review. @@75endi
@@AngrySnowboarder In the end, Father Xmas brought me a Shadowban (160W) with Rome DOD. Rode for a week in France around New Year and loved it. Lots of fresh snow, it was really fun. Can't wait to go back in mid Feb. Thanks again for the recommendations.
Would you recommend this board or the new Salomon assassin pro for an all mountain board?
Im not sure where I'd feel the difference
This is better all around.
Can you set this one up to ride switch a decent bit? Like a directional twin?
It is a directional twin.
Is there any real difference in the tech for this year vs last year?@@AngrySnowboarder
@@jamesnicholas7078 they tweaked the base tune on it, I don't think that's enough to warrant going full pop on a new one if you can snag a last years.
Hey Avran! I’m 6’0 tall and weight 210lb. The board specs says I should get the 160W, but I’m thinking in get the 158W, to have a more versatile all around board, specially for park. Do you think the 158W can handle my weight or should I go with the plank?
Easily!
What size would you recommend at 6ft3 210lbs boot size 10? 159 or 161?
59 for more playing around 61 for charging
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks for the fast reply! For mostly (euro) on-piste boarding, carving/bombing, lil powder on the side of the piste, rarely in the park, would you pick mercury, jones MT, or the resort twin? Watched your vids on those boards and mercury seems best for speed/bombing, jones little bit of everything and resort twin between mercury and JMT. Will be my only board for 7-14 days of boarding per year.
Would you recommend the Mercury, mega merc or something else for the east coast. (To replace my 2010 Custom X)
Yes.
Hey, looking for board size recommendation! I’m 5ft9, size 9, 84kg / 185lbs … would a 157 be okay or 159 better suited?
Depends on what you want it for. More all around with a freestyle use 57, more charging 59.
I already have a rasman, I found this board on sale for 370. Should i grab it or go for something else?
It's a different camber profile than the Rasman so it's going to ride more snappy from the tips. Kind of your call.
Mercury or Custom as an all mountain do it all board?
Mercury hands down
Ehy i cant decide from goliath and mercury. In case of the mercury inshould get the 157 or 159? Im 1.70 tall and 90kg is a problem is the mercury max range 87 the 157
Been riding arbor rocker for a year. This or spring break twin? Just a middle aged dad and his 17 yo little brother

Go with the Wide.
Would the Union stratas be to soft?
Depends on what you like for personal preference. For me, yeah. For you? Not sure.
@@AngrySnowboarder what would be a good alternative in the strata price range but a bit stiffer?
A last years binding marked down 40 to 60%.
@@AngrySnowboarder thank you meaning which binding what do you think of the Union atlas paired with the mercury
How would you describe how this board feels different riding compared to say a bataleon goliath?
Can I get an honest opinion of which all mountain board is better? Capita Mercury vs. Burton Custom Camber.

Great review! I’m upgrading as an intermediate rider here in the northeast and am trying to decide between the DOA and the Merc. Resort Twin is closer to the Indoor than this.
Are u gonna do a review on the Sickstick?
The Sickstick and Mercury have a little overlap but one is definitely more powder oriented.
I know what I would pick and it wouldn't be the T. Ricky.
Hi i’m 8.5us, 66kg and 172cm what size do u reccomend???
50ish.
Do you suggest normal sizing? I am 5'10, 180lbs, size 10.5 boot. I normally ride between 156-158 but its 155 or 157 in this case (155 seems a bit small, unless the board is designed to size a bit down?).
