- A video I wasn't expecting to make, We have had to take the engine out of the Lupo GTI as it is not the best! The car has got 122k on the clock and has been through 14 owners so I suppose it isn't really a surprise! We seem to have got lucky and found a replacement engine, all looks good so far but time will tell.

From someone that couldn’t fit brake pads, I always watch in awe…..Spot on 👊
Thank you so much for watching bud.
Love your vids the remind everyone how easy working on cars can be! Can’t wait to see this come together 🤙🏻
Thank you bud. Sometimes easy, most of the time stressful 😂
Engine build and turbo! Lets go!
I told myself I would keep this one simple 😂
Glad the flywheel fit and runs mate.
Great vid too, can’t wait to see it finished👌🏼
Thank you bud. Can’t wait to get out and drive it now!
👌🏻 excited to see it all back together and ripping!
So am I bud, can’t wait to get out in it!
Congrats on 100k!
Thank you bud 🙏
Come a long way in a short amount of time Dan, keep up the with the great videos too matey.
Bloody hell Dan.. the bargain turned out to be a bit more than thought. Still, not many about and an awesome pocket rocket to have dude 🤙
Yeah a little more than we thought but we should still not be in it for too much.
could be talking out my arse, but I reckon the cam sensor gives the signal for the injectors, and the crank sensor is the one that gives the signal for spark.
I just found your channel a little while back. Dude, you make good videos. I'll be watching from now on.
Nice work Dan well presented as usual mate 👍👍
Thank you so much bud 🙏
I've got one of these in Raven Blue, so loving watching these videos! Gotta love that Lupo content!
Raven blue is 👌 cheers for watching bud
Great job mate looking forward to more content
Thank you so much bud 🙏
Screwfix own brand degreaser works really well and is cheap... just sharing!
Thanks will try it
Same with their wash and wax, FANTASTIC stuff.
Yes - screw fix degreaser is really good
Thank you Gary, will get some and give it a go. I used Shine Supply Bug & Tar remover on the bay and it worked quite well!
i like it when youtube tells me you ve uploaded a new video, nice content as usual
🙏 thank you for watching
Good work Dan. The AVY accessory bracket differs between AC/non-AC cars, looks like that wasn’t changed when the AC was removed - the non-AC bracket puts the alternator where the compressor was & opens up access to the front of the engine. Excellent choice on the lightened fly wheel - it really transforms how it will drive. Looking forward to seeing the performance re-assessment, it should be back in pocket rocket territory now.
Next time you take off the the down pipe, change the bottom 2 bolts going through the sump/box to Allen key studs and nuts - this means if you need to drop the box you can leave the down pipe alone.
Good idea this👍🏼
Cheers bud, yeah I read that they were different after I had ordered the belts 😂 if you know of anyone selling an A/C pump, condensor and pipework let me know as I want to reinstate it. I can’t wait to get back out in it and see how much differently it drives!
The AC pipes go round the back of the engine between pipework and bulkhead…it will need engine out to re-instate - once you get into driving the Lupo, you will naturally get neurotic about weight, skipping lunch etc. best to leave the AC out as it saps hard won power too.
Love you work
Thank you bud 🙏
Great job finding the fault after it not starting after the engine swap. That is the worst feeling to not have it start and second guessing everything you worked on. Well done mate, you did not give up and got it sorted. Hope changing the water pump does not cause too many problems with the engine being back in the car. Good luck man!
Cheers bud. Glad we got it running! Few more bits to sort and we should be good! Thank you for watching 🙏
@@DanChambersDAC Thanks Dan, look forward to seeing it come together!
When doing cambelts I always do a full rotation of the engine afterwards off the crank pulley, I remember years ago building an engine for a Polo which inc. a really hot cam and did it to recommended timing and it got stuck near TDC as the valve lift was a smidge too high for the compression ratio i was running, disaster averted, as it happened a few degrees swing allowed it to work fine.
Waiting for the comments about why the engine is sagging to one side lol.
😂 I had to check when I first opened the bonnet
I love that bottom end pistons and crankshaft and make my felicia AFH conversion better
I will be building the other engine to go back in bud
Sprogley motorsport make a full intake kit for lupo’s 👍🏻
Why not build new engine Dan, you can't tell if your buying another bucket with hole in??? Love you enthusiasm!!!!!
It’s on the to do list. I needed the car back up and running as I have a trackday booked for this Thursday 🤦🏼♂️
Its screaming 4 a wide body kit 👍👌
This one is staying simple and subtle
Enjoying the vids! I’m doing similar thing on my 6n2 polo, gti engine swap and then just track speccing the interior. Bought them seat bases from fab53, it was hard to find any so thanks for sharing that.
Do you know if that ‘new’ engine is an ARC or AVY engine code? I only ask to find out what mine is because mine doesn’t have some sensors that I see on that one, cheers
Lupo is AVY same as the later polo gti.
Early gti is an ARC.
Although the lupo AVY block is different to the polo AVY engine, internals and head are the same but can’t use polo AVY in a lupo
@@maineautomotive5833 cheers! I think mine must be an ARC but with an AVY loom, engine runs nevertheless, just curious 👍
Cheers bud, glad you enjoy them! Not bad for the money are they! Slight modification needed but the work! As Rich said it’s an AVY glad yours is working bud
I personally would have waited for water pump so much easier while engine is out
How is the car starting without pushing the clutch in? Is there a button in it or is it just UK cars are like that?
This is older so don't need to put foot on the clutch. Only newer stuff here needs it.
How much was a lightened flywheel?
Trackcars always have a habit of never being straight forward
Unless they're drag racing....
😂 every car I have is the same
@@DanChambersDAC that's project cars for you. Makes good watching tho. I'm not even into VWs but I've been watching these since I saw the Caddy resto then binge watched the others
Would you ever buy a Tesla or are you just petrol?
Internal combustion all the way
