Same guy used to call us snowflakes for the safety lines.
Fun fact the woo woo woo slowed the falling man down
better to not fall than fall slowly though 🤷♀️
“WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!”
Is ubiquitous amidst nearly any human endeavor involving potentially catastrophic consequences or damages. It’s just a fact of nature at this point go ahead name some it’s fun.
Trees, dogs, horses, guns, vehicles, equipment, tools, food, liquor, drugs, fireworks, fistfights, we use that for everything.
I’ve had so much grief on insta for pointing this out, a back up system takes 2 mins but prevents so much pain and paper work!
And there are systems even simpler than this… I’ll have to do another video here soon.
A second adjustable lanyard on your centre D ring is an effective cinching method. Works similar to the friction saver system and its rather comfortable
Can you make a video, specifically about this? Like how you set it up, and what you used? For us newer guys? Thanks
Check out buckingham Tree Squeeze
Its a ring cinch. The guy that fell knew he was dropping a big top, he was just being cocky. He shouldve tied on a reduntant line and didnt. That was 100% his fault.
Honestly they guy cutting should not have been taking it that big. He should have been in the top of the tree. Period. He was being lazy and it almost cost him his life
You can also climb srt and use a running bowline around the trunk, and it will serve the same purpose.
I don't like a bowline for life support personally but agree SRT with any kind of cinching Anker is preferable for me.
I don't think your bridge is long enough. Haha, love ya dude.
Having your Lifeline singed around the tree also helps to prevent that in the video it appears he didn't do that he only had his Flipline around the tree which is also an OSHA violation you're supposed to be double tide in at all times when using a chainsaw
Great short demonstration.. it's nice with the clip of the bad example to see.. I was taught 4" separation between the rings is ideal- ya want some separation between them for better cinch.
I just put up a rope grab situation with the exact same method that you're using and every other company is selling you did a great job you always do a great job I wish there was more people on the planet that took a lot more time to look at your videos to find out the real answers to a free evaluated actual truthful scenarios that you provide...
Remember I am one of the specialists in studying in fixating on things until they are completely unthinkable anymore
I'm pretty sure you know me though and I just wanted to give you the props that you rightfully deserve....
excellent idea and I'm actually making one of these for saddle hunting. I've done tree work for a long time and my brother runs a business in Ohio and I actually would just double wrap my safety to lock me in. I've had the same thing almost happen but my safety grabbed. but I know someone who actually rode the tree down and left the spike stub and it caught him in the armpit and messed him up really bad. had to have some of those chest muscle removed and placed into his armpit. be safe out there guys!
Would you be kind enough to share this with me…. I’d love to see it ….I’m a new Saddle Hunt Hunter and I would like to Have something like this set up on my lineman’s belt as well
Buckingham makes one with same concept , it's called the tree squeeze. In my experience it's best used for straight spars like pine and spruce
I’m using one with a friction saver on top as well. Two points of attachment that both have the same concept
I have one they are extremely over priced like all Buckingham tools but other then that its great
The similar design of most powerline synch squeezing belts I’ve seen minus the pole teeth grips. I Think it’s crazy how much synch belts are overlooked considering they will most times hold you relatively exactly where you would’ve been spurring down. Great video to bring awareness especially for younger people getting into climbing.
Was literally about to climb a couple spars a company left behind. Throw a rope up top and just spike back down with a drt and carabiner around the tree as backup to the lanyard. Will definitely just be buying one of these.
I use a secondary on my center line at all times just a simple choker that I adjust on a Blake's hitch. No need for a complicated setup.
But I like what you're doing it's like a lineman's rig.
Do you mean drt with a climbline and blakes ,?,,or with add on...
I use it with a Zig Zag and a USaver pulley saver. Works like a dream and its retrievable. Can be setup different ways as needed, used like a double lanyard, used for work positioning, used to repel.
I have been thinking of a way to use my climbing line as a secondary safeline in DRT configuration and this is just what I've been looking for. Thanks!
There are other methods as well, but this is one !
Running bowline tied to spar. With a spliced end you can just put a carabiner in there and clip it on running end of your climb line below your system. Retrievable and simple.
I hope you haven't been thinking about it _TOO_ long.....🤦🏻♂️😜
@@dertyjerz3 I know about this one, but I'm not sure exactly how it is retrievable... Does it just fall down when not under load?
I admit, I haven't tried it yet 😀
@@jakalestan5704why need it to be retrievable wen you can just spike back down chog it down or just fell it and use your line to pull it
Great pro tip. Comes down to safety precautions; having a secondary.
Smart idea. I’ll definitely keep it in mind. Thanks!
Buckingham makes these they are called a tree squeeze I love mine it makes climbing safer but nowadays I just use a steel core with a srt line backup underneath
2 wraps works as well with no extra gear
2 wraps does work, but the video is addressing ANSI guidance. ANSI states that you need to be attached by two separate systems at least one of which must be self clinching.
Yeah but I don't want 20 ft of buck strap hanging off of me
Was just about to say this. If I’m doing a particularly smooth tree with very few branches I’ll just double wrap my rope.
I'm a new climber, isn't the two wraps self cinching?
That's what I used to do double wrap my landyard
If you use a carabiner on the prusik side you can advance the system a lot easier.
Where do you clip it
Instead of using the ring on the prusik used a carabiner so you can use a second flip line and advance above limbs
I just cinch my line around the trunk. Personally though, I don’t like being tied into just a spar with only lanyard for any length of time. I’ll use the cinching system even when ascending and just advance the climb line up with my lanyard. That way in the event that you gaff out or maybe need to bail real quick, you can quickly tighten the cinched climb line and it will support you / prevent you from sliding down the spar
DRT?
I thought he was just showing off😂
Hey Bro!
I think you’re exactly right. This guy was a pole dancer in his former life.
first to pop the top and climb down to drop it wins
Thanks for the tip, this makes sense
Looks like an AFC. You can set these befote you climb by throwing a throwball up where you want it. Its pretty handy.
Love your work man!!
This is a great tip thank you
Simple other solution, flip line figure 8 configuration, right hip to left hand around tree to right hand attached to left hip... especially in small stuff. Not to mention rope in second tie in for cutting...
You should have a figure 8 knot at the end of your tree squeeze for safety
Seems to be a similar idea to the Buckingham super squeeze that we use on power poles.
Looks like the same principle.
Are those carabiners used to hold the your vest to your saddle?
I just double wrap my lanyard, also works well on those tall leaning palm trees.
Just like the Buckingham Supersqueeze I use to climb utility poles
I use Snake eye 👍
Any choker locked down with the climbing line, in conjunction with a lanyard is double safe and comfortable when you have to take a ride
thank U .. for this method ..
⚠️ .. cinch anchor .. 👍
Cool n thank u
There is a dog collar version of this, called a Martingale Collar.
It's really great for dogs that want to slip out of their collar.
wow ty nobody ahs ever taught me that and I have learned from 5+ arborists
for 50 years now and I have taught that...101 climbing...Not all Arborists are created equal...hence why industry has so many deaths.
This method works great but a little bit time and energy consuming. I will double wrap a steel flipline when topping. i have tried a prussik on the flipline but it wears on the hips after time.
Looks like a lot more work. Most of the trees I climb have a lot of branches and I'm just there to prune. I'm not there to take out all the branches. No if I was cutting the tree down completely yeah sure I could use a system like this, because then I could just cut all the branches off
If it was me and I was going to take a top. I would not want to struggle with that set up I’d have two options. Three kinda. 1 clove hitch my flip line around the trunk. 2 tie a running bowline around the trunk below my notch and run it the same I would a top line. But mostly I clip my figure 8 into my bridge tie a runnin bowline below my notch so that way I can come down on it and leave it up high for groundies to have a pull line.
Are you just running your climb line through a friction saver? (Or an adjustable one) I can't tell exactly.
could you show us how exactly to make one
Would deffo have a stopper on that cinch line, if that rubs the trunk on the way down before it loads, same end of story
can u list the ropes and equipment we need to buy ? all yıur gears ropes exupment on yıu in this video? can you write the list please. i want to buy a full equipment i need to climb. including harness rope karabiens etc. pls thnx
What would be the advantage if any to MRS on a spar? I can’t think of any over SRT with quickie set up
What’s your thought on your run of the mill more popular hunting saddles? I’m wondering if I made a mistake by buying a one panel saddle. Seems like pro climbers always have two panel saddles.
That’s why you tie up you climbing line along side your flip. I’ve taken hits like that and not gaffed out so I really don’t think he was prepared for that
Can you set up a link with everything someone would need to use this system ?
Sienpre cuando se esta asiendo un remubo se tiene que crusar el septic para que si te resbalas no tebengas para bajo
If we are talking safety standards.....just curious why the cinching anchor/rope doesn't require a safety stopper knot tied in the running end to prevent the prusik from accidentally coming off the end?
So my sterling cambium saver would work too
I just use running bowline and then clip the rope into my rope runner pro.
I used to just wrap my lanyard around the tree twice
Same can be done on an appropriate positioning lanyard, with just a pusik and a quickie
Yep, I use that method as well.
@@jonanderson4755 - Don't even need a quickie. Carabiners can work, too.
That is a lot more work than a flip line. I would use that system once I'm set to take a top or make a big cut...
Yeah, there are definitely several ways to accomplish this....and doing something that approximates this, only when necessary, makes sense too.
you can do that or just leave it really loose and move it up with your flipline. All situational.
U need both.
@@adruery - If you're saying "both" to mean that a cinched line is always necessary, I have to respectfully disagree....but I'm not sure that's what you are saying....😁
Yeah I assume that’s a backup while he climbs with the flipline
Is this the same concept as a buck squeeze?
Do you have a link for that sir

Gotta have one what the name and how much are they?
Tree work absolutely terrifies me.
In Germany you say "Hanse Sicherung" smarter and shorter the system :) o
I bet the palm tree guy had this rig
It also allows you to sit back in your saddle and take the weight off your feet while in spikes 😮💨😮💨
I just use two flip lines , ones looped around the trunk completely and back to me , the other I run normal , but not always , only when im doing stuff like that
Two flip lines don't count as doubled in.
Or you can do it old school and tie your knot around it or flip line twice
I would assume the "cincher" needs to be MORE than half the circumference for this to work.
Is there a recommended "range" for the size of that compared to tree diameter?
Or just know what you're doing and don't have somebody pulling on it with the truck as hard as they can too many people just think they can do tree work
I’m wondering if I could use my figure 8 as a choke off ring for my linesman’s belt?
Or would I need to purchase a ring?
I’m a new Saddle Hunter
It needs to be a synching anchor..as your main climb rope to reach the ground..the lanyard is not the primary life support it's for spikeing and positioning...2 tie ins...3 is even better...most hunters use a wild country ropeman 1...on lanyard and there systems are down right UNSAFE....it makes no sense why they don't use arborist gear. ..no sense
Link that video, thats awesome
Guy is lucky that that top did not slide back into him
Any suggestion on an economical option? I find some to be extraordinarily expensive.
normal flip line with a single or double rings....or just a double prusik for adjustments
@@wesleywrightman4233 - Exactly, you can always just put a thimble or ring on an extra prusik on any lanyard/flip line.
Are we talking about the same ANSI?
I was taught to run the system that your talking about, and also run a steelcore flipline anytime your making a cut with a chainsaw
Steel core are for rooks
@@jturk0131 spoken like a true ground man
That's great if you don't have any branches on the tree
I just double wrap my buck strap
you can just do an alpine butterfly with a notch quik E and make a canopy anchor
why not use the attachment holes on the hitch climber
Looks like another form of the buck squeeze
You trust a friction hitch with your life? Even us rock climbers don’t do that, we only use them as backups or for utility in systems.
Fancy name for a choker
Blake hitch climbing knot is the oldest and best way sorry but this is a fact ❤
send a link 🔗 for This product 🙂
👌🏼
Yeah I do remember when the guy's crew yanked on the treetop way too soon and way too hard and almost killed him.
You can do this with any rope or flipline just clip it back to itself especially when taking a big top That guy got lucky....
Saddle hunter here. Great tips!
Just use an ART cambium saver.
Finally found someone said what I was gona say! 👍👌
Proper preperation prevents poor performance
Or double wrap the lanyard
Dude probably quit after that incident.
we're can you get one At. I've called several supply companies and they don't know what I'm talking about??? please help
Here is a link on Amazon, but it can be found at a number of arborist supply websites for near the same price amzn.to/3FXV9uE
Why are there three different ropes
I've never seen someone run a hitchclimber setup that way before. Also, i thought you were supposed to have more of a gap between the rings
4 inches is best..depends on diameter
Is this not a snake anchor?
if he was tied in the right way , double safety line ,wow, who taught him?
Just srt if you're working on a spar.
no but I need to learn to climb got some widow makers I need to get rid of
Weeding out is what it's called
Or you could double wrap your buckstrap.
