    14:58 This part is really good to see performance per watt. Apu at 17 Watt is the highest efficiency and to get 3h+ on it is awesome

    • @El.Duder-ino
      @El.Duder-ino 2 месяца назад

      AMD keeps it's signature efficiency there with performance per watt, however it will have to start improving it as Intel is striking back with Lunar Lake while both r still far from what can be achieved with custom Arm SoCs like those from Apple for example. Only if Apple would have more games and gaming support on their platform, something what they r now building and what should come in the future. All Mx chips r performance per watt beasts getting better and better🦾 Nvidia is planning to come up with something as well together with Mediatek.

    Some people are upset about the price and comparisons to the Deck.
    The Deck is a system to move Emulators and Indies mainly. The Rog moves everything.
    Then about the price... Dude, they are giving you Double on almost everything... Battery, Ram, Storage...
    Do you also want the processor?? Well, nothing, €1200 then. Come go...
    They are raising the price by double that of almost everything, don't complain, it is VERY worth it just for €300 more.
    +50% RAM.
    +100% Battery.
    +100% Storage.

      I also got that same XGM. How much did you get it for? I got mine a little after the Ally launch for $600 like new. I was so close to getting the 4090 XGM during prime day for $1,500 but kinda bum that Asus is dropping support for it with the X. If the Ally 2 has it tho which I doubt plus a bigger screen for sure I will get the 4090 XGM tho. Hopefully by then it will only cost around $1,200 or so haha.

    • @demariogoings4295
      @demariogoings4295 2 месяца назад

      @volcalstone I also got it like new as well at around the same price range, I couldn't pass up on the deal and tbh it's been a great experience so far! The 6850m is a beast at 1440p. Honestly it is perplexing for me as well that they opt to not support the xgm on the x but for my use case of my i usually keep it plugged in anyway so I'll just update to the 4090 in a few years if need be or just wait for the rog ally 2!

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone 2 месяца назад

      @@demariogoings4295 the Ally and XGM setup is what I passed on to my daughter now as I recently picked up the Go again. I had it at launch but returned it due to the UI and it wasn't ready for primetime. ACSE on the Ally is perfect if you ask me and it's only getting better soon with the new update that is on the X now. I needed a bigger screen so I had to let go of the Ally. If it had a bigger screen I would still be playing on it.
      The Go is nicer for me overall but just like you I'm waiting for the Ally 2 with the Strix Point APU. Hopefully it will have a bigger screen, if not then I guess it will be something else.
      I love Asus stuff as I also have a 2022 Flow 16 so that was one of the other reasons why I picked up the XGM to use it on both devices. Of course the gains are bigger on the Ally while my laptop has a 130W 3060 which is around 10-20% less in performance than a 6850M XT. I love AMD for their CPUs but I'm more on the green team when it comes to the GPU. My first choice was the 3080 XGM but those were too expensive at that time. It was more expensive than my X16 Flow laptop alone! 😊
      Either way good luck and I can't wait for next year when it comes to handhelds. Btw I barely use my custom 4090 rig anymore since I got back into the handheld game. I just found out that I like more portable stuff overall haha. I will still keep my rig tho as it's a nice show piece haha. I need to put something on my desk right? 😁

    great review! Good to see that while it's an upgrade it's not a HUGE improvement over the original outside of battery life. A lot of the other fixes like battery and analog controls are simple change outs for a tinkerer which could easily save you $200. I was on the fence on getting the X or an older one and modding it and for my use case, older modded is the way to go.

    10:30 the OG Ally is set to 4GB VRAM while the Ally X is set to 8GB VRAM. They should both have 8GB of VRAM set for a fair comparison, and leave the differences to the Ally X having faster and more system memory. The same for Cyberpunk at 10:52. Did you run all the tests like this?
    The graphics drivers are also not the same. The OG Ally is running the official AMD driver, while the Ally X is running the Asus graphics driver, which is older.

    Man ETA, I was hoping to see the usual racing games in your review. Since this device does very well with console emulation, rGT4 or Forza Horizon should run fully speed in performance mode. Crazy for a handheld to do that and still have more than reasonable battery life.

    Been seeing reviews on best buy that some people have been having it not turn on at all even with it plugged in someone had the right trigger completely stop working after 30 mins but mostly the bad reviews were about how the battery will not hold a charge at all or it just won't turn on so take that as you will

    2:15 They should not upgrade, it's not something worth spending that much more money into a company that can't even provide proper warranty support. And it's not yet on RDNA4 or Zen5 so it's not a performance upgrade too. It's way better to buy Steam Deck Oled in this price point.

    Hey ETA: My only question is this: Is there any reason you would know why they couldn't up the memory on the Original Ally to 7500 mt/s via firmware update? I ask because I own a few of the smaller Handheld brands like AoKZoe A1 Pro and they did exactly that. They shipped with lower speed ram and updated them later via over the air firmware update.

    • @k3nsh1n4life
      @k3nsh1n4life 2 месяца назад +5

      If that's true, the RAM in those handhelds you mentioned were already capable of that and were probably downlclocked for stability reasons until the companies decided they had a good mass market firmware to distribute. The ROG Ally's RAM is already functionally maxed out. If you want the new speed RAM on the old Ally, you'll have to solder better quality silicon capable of those speeds into it.

    • @Saif0412
      @Saif0412 2 месяца назад

      @@k3nsh1n4life+1 the ram in those handhelds were underclocked, they just updated it to the speed it was rated at our supposed to have been.
