Matt bellamy is a genius of his time. One of the best lyricists you'll ever hear. Muse are an incredible live band, I'd recommend knights of cydonia at Rome Olympic Stadium, hysteria live at Wembley, plug in baby at Rome Olympic stadium and butterflies and hurricanes live at Wembley.

I love how unapologetically themselves this band is. They've never been a slave to record sells, top forty, or anything else. Love them!
You both will love Muse's song "Uprising". It's an anthem. "Knights of Cydonia" is also an awesome song of theirs.

Muse is a great, great band. Some of my favorites: Hysteria, Knights of Cydonia, Stockholm Syndrome, Time is Running Out. There are a ton of great songs.

'Plug in baby' is how you introduce a first time listener to Muse. This song wouldn't of even entered my head.

If you ever did make it to a live show I would suggest these guys. I’ve been to a couple hundred shows and I’ve seen them twice. Their live shows are incredible.

Muse, IMO, is one of the more original acts of the last 20 years...I would call them "Progressive Rock" ..opinions will vary. I am sure. They have a big, fat sound...especially for a 3 piece band
The best thing about Muse is that every album sounds so different yet still undeniably Muse!
Muse is one of those rare bands that can't seem to write a bad song. Even their b-sides are better than most bands and their great live.
Muse towers above maroon 5, but you will need to hear more of their songs for that to be clear.

Knights of Cydonia live in Rome is a better place to start with Muse. Plug in Baby from the same concert as well... Its an amazing show, the music the light show, the crowd, all of it together is well worth it
Muse has a very distinct sound but they experiment with different styles, which I like a lot. For a heavier sound check out their song Assassin. I know a lot of people are hating on the song you just reacted to but I have always loved this song. I think especially if you’ve known someone like he is singing about you appreciate and relate to the song more. I hope you do more Muse, they have so many amazing songs! Like others here have suggested, Uprising or Madness would be good ones to react to next if you are looking for more Muse.
Dig deep and dine heartily on this band, guys. True greatness. As far as genre, I see a similarity to "songs about jane" era M5. Overall they're more like Queen and Rush and Yes in my view.
He is an awesome guitar player! Check out knights of cydonia Live at Wembley Stadium or plug in baby or New born So good!!! Might be controversial, but I think they are better live than on the albums.
You are killing it with your choices tonight! Strange choice for an entry point to Muse and I have to say you really should check out a live performance. They have done some of the best live shows ever. For a three piece they are one of the most powerful bands touring at the moment. Check out almost anything from the concert at the Olympic stadium in Rome 2013, but do not miss out on ‘ Knights of Cydonia’ and ‘Plug in baby’
You need to check out their live stuff. Not even going to recommend a song because their so good live that you can’t go wrong. One of the best live bands ever.

When my daughter was still a teen living at home we had an unspoken deal. I'd take her to Muse concerts and she goes with me to Rush concerts. Both are awesome live shows and we both came to really appreciate both bands.

Knights of Cydonia, Starlight, and Map of the Problematique. All utterly genius songs.
I actually hadn't heard this song either. So I looked it up and it's from 2015. Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy was married to actress Kate Hudson. They divorced in 2014, so there's a good chance the song is about her.
Anyway there are a lot better Muse songs. They're also amazing live. You should check one of their live performances.
My recommendation would be citizen erased for muse. Their live shows are where it’s at though!
Muse is a great band but this is a really weird place to start w them. They have some good songs from this point and beyond but this was around when they stopped trying to sound like themselves anymore and tried different things. Numerous great songs before then include: New Born, Hysteria, Supermassive Black Hole, Uprising, Plug-in Baby, Starlight, Resistance, etc etc. From this same era I believe came Madness, which is a beautiful song. Also they are a band that should probably always be reacted to in the live version.

Apart from plug in baby.. never been a huge muse fan.. my little cousin who I escorted to download festival paid for by her parents 2015.. well she dragged me away from Marilyn manson halfway through his set to watch muse on another stage.. as gutted as I was muse put on one hell of a show.. fairplay..
I'm not sure this is the Muse song I'd have started with as an introduction to the band. Hysteria, to me, is THE definitive Muse song.

I’ve seen so many bands over four decades from multiple genres. That said, seeing Muse in the early to mid 2000’s is one of the greatest performances I have ever seen. Jump down that rabbit hole, Alice.

The best songs on their first album entitled showbiz are probably the title track and 'Muscle Museum'. Then check out 'Newborn', 'Plug-in-baby' and 'Bliss' from the 2nd album... etc There is so much quality to explore with Muse.

You guys need to listen to their songs "MADNESS" and "Uprising"! The music is different from most that you've reacted to. ther are a mix of modern rock, new age, and techno. Brad, you will love the lyrics and Lex, I believe you will absolutely love the music. I love the way Madness slowly builds.

I was going to suggest MUSE. They are an iconic band who provide a live performance like few others. Knights of Cedonia, Super Massive Black Hole. They are incredible, you'll get a kick from them.
I think you would both like Muse's song Psycho. Brad can get a song with meaning and Lex can get some hard rock! Knights of Cydonia is good, but I wouldn't look deeply for a "meaning". "Supermassive Black Hole" is good too.
One suggestion. This song was a MASSIVE hit, yet more of a one hit wonder, so many people don't recognize the name. Norman Greenbaum - Spirit In The Sky. Would love to see a reaction to that.

don't get me wrong....but don't focus so much on the lyrics....you miss a lot of the music played by the band and his voice...muse is a band that you have to listen to well...because it's good music ....my preferences are more punk and subgenres, metal and subgenres....keep it up 💪💪💪💪✌✌✌

I despised this song when it came out, but I’ve come around to rather enjoy it. (Largely due to the live performance at The Mayan.) But I still hugely prefer Muse when they’re rocking out. This was a very odd place to start…

Early albums have completely different sound. If you got time give listen to mk ultra, new born, assassin , map of the problematic, city of delusion, apocalypse now, unnatural selection , Stockholm syndrome. There earlier stuff is on par with queen creative way of orchestrating music.
Listen to 'United States of Eurasia'. (George Orwell reference) Or just the entire 'The Resistance' album. But do the albums in order.

This song is good but nowhere near any of their best songs. It's a little too "pop" for me. Watch them live - EVERY TIME. One of the best live bands in the world.

The song 'Dead Inside' is only loosely based upon a theoretical relationship between two people, yet the lyrics extend much deeper than this ... to how our society itself has become 'dead inside', which in a symbiotic dynamic bleeds the members of society, all gradually and unnoticeably having lost the 'life' & excitement of growth and discovery. This indicates that all of us have withdrawn into ourselves to an extent, and subsequently live out our lives as empty shells, devoid of the zest for life that we had as very young children.
Muse will change your life. Keep going down the rabbit hole! They’re amazing!
