I’m also a drywall contractor. If you wanna get into the commercial drywall industry you gotta get really big in the residential side as well. You have to be getting massive discounts on materials from your suppliers and you only get that by having 5-20 houses a week and a few remodels. You also have to have a proven track record and have been in business for awhile.
I hope you’re doing well. I offer comprehensive estimating and takeoff solutions for all residential and commercial projects, regardless of size. I am using Planswift. I provide detailed estimates and charge per project based on its scope and size.
So glad I've found your site. I'm a mortgage banker/broker and was looking for ideas to offer value to investors and contractors/builders and your list is exactly what I was looking for. Great info!
Thanks Susan! One thing you can offer your investors are “budget estimates” for their deals involving construction and remodeling. Often a deal is contingent on what construction costs might be.
Thanks for the informative video, currently helping my dad grow his general contracting business he's had for a year now and closed about 2 decent size contracts as a sub. I would really appreciate to get in contact with you to learn!
Joseph, let’s do it. The best way to learn is to join our training and coaching program and you’ll be able to get all the video training plus weekly coaching calls with me. You get a 30 day free trial and then $97/mo after that, but you get direct access to consulting from me every week. There’s no way to fail! It’s been a year that I have been working with a GC and I have experience in estimation. How many years of experience do I need to start my own GC company?
It really depends on what the licensing requirements are. Honestly, most GCs I’ve worked with don’t know anything and are just good at coordinating the trades. All you really need is basic knowledge about each trade and subcontract everything. Over time you’ll encounter issues and conflicts and you’ll learn the details. And you’ll learn A LOT from asking your Subs questions. If you want to learn how to sell, we have our Contractor Sales Academy Program that’s perfect for you. You get a 30 day trial. iambuilders.com/8-figure-contractor-training
Thanks Martin. If you want to get professional sales training in construction, here is a link to my training program: iambuilders.com/8-figure-contractor-training
I would go by and visit them in person and offer budget estimating for free. If you call, you’ll be treated as a spammer. If you email, you’ll be ignored. But if you’re in their office…. They can’t ignore you. And there is something so powerful about in-person prospecting that you don’t get over the phone or email.

You’re probably focusing on residential. You might want to look into something more commercial but for residential leads, you can use Google Local Services. You can also get a marketing agency that can build you a webpage and get ads for people searching that online.
Having to fight the urge to leave this video from the constant hearing of the phrase "unlimited jobs/leads" I get it he's trying to sell his business and his whatever it is to make money but why do all these "how to" guys have to sell us something instead of just saying this is how, showing the video, giving information and ending it.
Hey Ali. If you like the Unlimited Leads System, you’re going to love Building Your Bid Machine! 😂 But in all seriousness, I make these videos to help contractors grow their business. No one else is sharing strategies for commercial construction. If I don’t do it, who will? If it’s not for you, that’s fine. If you ever need anything in the future, we’re here to serve. -Daniel

Oh LOL. Yeah, most GCS are glorified proposal getters. It’s true. Back in the day GC actually knew how to estimate and they were experts at all areas of construction. But lately most GCS don’t know anything and they rely too much on the subs’ expertise. Out of 100 GCS, 1 knows how to estimate for real and the others just get proposals. Also, I have videos for people kind of starting out, and I also have videos for people that are more advanced in the process. A lot of what I teach is not new, I’m just focusing on sales for the construction industry.
@@iambuilders sir, with respect, you clearly have never done GC work. And I also question your qualifications for calling yourself a subject matter expert on this topic. If someone is trying to get work with a GC they should first understand what GCs do in order to understand what the GC's pain points are in order to present a solution to those pains. And BELIEVE me, GC's are not at all or by any stretch of the imagination "glorified proposal getters". GC's have a responsibility to so many stakeholders, suppliers and vendors it would make most businesses heads swim. Beyond that point, it is unreasonable to believe that the modern GC could possibly bid everything in scope of a new construction effort. In the 60's it was much simpler. Today we have new codes, energy standards, VAV's, OCC's, NFPA, about 300K different types of RTU's and control valves and exchangers to go with them. You do drywall, then bid drywall. I'm not doing it for you. Its not like it was 50 years ago. Not by a long shot. So please, do your homework.
Let me rephrase - the “Estimators” that work for GCs are often Proposal Getters. Steven, I’ve been on both the GC side and the Sub side so I know both sides very well. You probably know how to estimate and probably even the technical side of construction. But 99% of them don’t know anything.
