  • Plan with me using time blocking and index cards! This is week two of my 12 week year where I'm focusing on finishing my novel. In an effort not to lose steam on my prior goal driven focuses (Etsy, RUclips, and losing weight), I'm setting up time blocks for each.
In the past time blocks have been more of suggestions and checking to see what kind of time I have to dedicate to an idea. However, this time around, I need to take them seriously. I also need to be intentional about what I cut out from my days in order to fit in writing. I don’t want to unintentionally cut out sleep or time with my kids in order to write.
We’ll go over setting up the time block schedule and then do a weekly accountability meeting using the task cards and scorecard divider from my card deck.
Plus, I finish setting up my write a novel plan.

I really love how well your pen writes and still isn't too fancy. Could you provide an affiliate link or name of the pen you use?

Happily. I love the way the pen writes and that it's simple too. I haven't found any other pens that are are are thin and dry quickly. It's makes a big difference. The pen is by Muji. Here's an affiliate link to the set I purchase, but you might be able to find them cheaper off Amazon amzn.to/44Nulbi

It’s so refreshing to hear you mention something amiss with scheduling. I’ve felt the same way for years. If I block it in - you’ll usually see me running the other way :P or finding something more “pressing” to attend to. We are a homeschooling family so the need for tight time frames is a little more relaxed - although some days I’d like it to be more boxed in :P. Can’t win :P

Oh you so read my mind for the accountability group/person. I am exactly the same! So I am still in the process of finding myself a good way to stay accountable. At the moment I’ve turned my husband into my boss :P I write my sprint plan and then check in with him to make sure I’m not overcommitting :P and he follows up daily with the 3 questions :D

PS - I’ve been using your shorts as a reward for sitting down and getting some extra writing done :D so thank you.

Your video saved my day, thank you so much ❤ I was planning on many projects for this week but it turns out that during the journey through Italy in direction to Germany and with lessons online and corrections it’s really hard to accomplish anything else. I wish you a lot of success for your week 🍀

QUESTION…. I’ve got lots of smaller goals, some larger goals and a few that are probably never going to happen. At the very beginning of this video (which is why I’m asking this question here now) and I feel really stupid for asking this because I’m old enough to be your grandmother and I should have all this figured out by now. But, YES, I have lots of goals swirling around in my head… and I’ve been trying to learn your index card system and now your 12-week system… should I be writing down all my goals and working on them little by little or just one at a time. They have been rolling over for years and other things just become more important if that makes any sense.
Thanks for any of your suggestions on this.

I hope to be curious and try new things for the rest of my life! It makes sense to me- I have a lot of things I want to see happen or try, but my experience has been that when I choose one area of my life to put all of my energy into, I actually see some progress. I like the 12 week time frame, because it creates urgency. I'm not procrastinating or thinking I still have time if I wait until tomorrow. With the single focus at a time, its tough because I want to do and have everything right now. It doesn't matter though - if my attention is torn in multiple directions I don't make improvement in any of them. When it comes to focusing on one goal at a time - like losing weight. There still might be multiple goals under that - like sleeping better, or moving more throughout the day, but I wouldn't also try to start a new unrelated project at the same time. It forces me to be patient 😇 not something I'm very good at either!
