    My grandma's house was not far from this area. She lived in Mishawaka, not far from Mishawaka Avenue and Ironwood Road. Grandma died in 2016 but i have zillions of fond memories of South Bend, Scottsdale Mall, Potowatami Park etc. this is impressive video. Well done.

    Great shooting, you can really see the rotation. Thank God no injuries are being reported so far.

    This video appears to have been filmed from the intersection of Chesire Dr and Ironwood Rd on the south side of South Bend; the view is towards the north. A most impressive spectacle.

    That is one of the slowest moving tornadoes I have seen. That would be more scary. More time to tear things up.

      Hey it ripped off the roof of a daycare

    • @Chris_Russell
      @Chris_Russell Год назад +1

      It also heavily damaged a house (destroyed the screened-in porch) along Hawthorne Road, just south of the daycare center. The garage was lifted off the foundation there as well. It's a good thing that it happened on a Sunday evening, when nobody was at the daycare center - and that there were no injuries or deaths.

    Outstanding video. :) NWS has rated this tornado an EF-2, by the way.

    I live in the area, and everytime we hear sirens we laugh and go chuck a football outside or something, cause the last time we had "dangerous" tornadoes was November 2013. This is a one in a million chance for South Bend.

      sadly I don't believe this area is ready for a big ef5 disaster.I read posts on social media asking for a good way to remember difference between watch and warning.Many when hearing a warning or seeing a tornado will just text somebody and ask what they should do.

      That is what we thought in Dayton, Ohio, then we got hit by 15 tornadoes on Memorial Day, including an EF 4 tornado that left 14 miles of devastation. We don't think that way anymore.

      I live in Osceola and we had a funnel cloud literally above our neighborhood on this same day and everyone was just chilling outside watching it like nothings there. I agree that if an ef5 or heck even an ef4 did come, there would sadly be more than a couple of casualties

      @@michianamainlines3538 The geography of the land is not suitable for tornadic activity. The jet stream off Lake Michigan plays a major role in this. Also the land is very hilly and this part of the city is above sea level, so the terrain is also not consive to a tornado. Watch videos of past tornadoes from here, they "hunt" and try and grab ahold of the ground anywhere, and they just can't gain a footing. They bounce around all over the place before they get out to around Plymouth and Wyatt and tear stuff up where it's all flat.

    I remember that. I'm obsessed with weather, and when we were on vacation, i tell my mom: "MOM THERES A TORNADO IN SOUTH BEND", and as usual she doesn't listen. Turns out when we got back the daycare a few blocks away from our house was destroyed, and my neighbors house had a tree on top.................thinking about this i should have freaked out more seeing a couplet on RadarScope just meters from my house....

    I live just north of this location near Ironwood and Brookmede. I heard the weather sirens go off before the tornado but then they stopped. A few minutes later I was looking out my back door and I saw the remains of the rotation heading north parallel to Ironwood and lots of tree branches, boards and what I later figured out must have been balloons from the day care center swirling around in the sky. It is always said that a tornado sounds like a train rumbling by. It does!

    • @Chris_Russell
      @Chris_Russell Год назад

      There was not any thunder, which makes this tornado all the more unusual (for this region, anyway). According to meteorologist Tom Hoffman, it pretty much came from out of nowhere. There are still video clips about this available on the WNDU website. Just type tornado in the search box, scroll down and you'll find at least two options from late June, 2019, each of which has several videos.
