Loved watching United back then. 10 wins on the bounce, ending at Luton with a draw. Was at Sheffield Wednesday for our first defeat of the season. We had thousands in every stand at City, every derby and not just this one. Happy days following the Reds up and down the country.
I was at this match with friends of mine who were Reds & we were stood at the side where the City end was away to our left & i remember the massive number of Utd fans in the crowd. In them days when footy violence was part of some fans entertainment it was horrible exiting Maine Rd into a maze of alleys.
When United won those first 10 games in a row that season my Dad said to me it'd been a long time coming, and we're southerners. Hardly surprisingly, everyone thought they were nailed on for their first league title since 1967. Yet they started to implode in the late autumn, allowing Merseyside to reassert its dominance at the time and Liverpool to motor towards their fourth title in five seasons, snatching it back off Everton who had to settle for runners-up. West Ham,who enjoyed an outstanding campaign in 1985-86,came third leaving United in fourth by the end. City didn't have much punch as a team at the time. They'd ended a two-year exile from the top flight in 1985,but it was the large number of teams and clubs in even greater disarray than them that kept a relegation battle at arm's length - at least until the following season. It was a transitional time for them, with a lot of players coming into the side from a successful youth team, some of who would go on to become regulars.
Oh yes. Great day out. Town, full of Reds, walk down, Reds , ground, full of Reds, after game Reds. M// cr....... Red. Away days in 80's at city......Always chocca with Reds all over Maine Rd. Still my favourite away ground along with Villa Park. As in, plenty of wins in league n semi finals, plus massive turnouts.
That was a cracking united team, loved whiteside back then..... Pitty they all drank 😂 same maine rd ain't there anymore. Proper stadium, good loyal city supporters back then.... Not the pretend gobshites they have now, in an half empty souless punch bowl

Those first 10 games we played some unbelievable football
Are they all available to watch on RUclips, as highlights?
Andy JS just goals.
Was at this game, McIlroy at City and Peter Barnes playing for Utd!!
Both muppets.
This video proves Manchester is red! More United fans at Maine Road that day than City fans!!!
But no United in the kippax..just in the weaker stands of the main stand and the north stand..
Think you’ll find there were reds in there
More lies from the bitter bertie
@@bindipper7333 stayed quiet then . Poor old cockney red.
@@LongsightM12KIPPAX That's not true and 2-1!

Second goal great strike.
First goal a comedy or errors, second one a belter!
Any team that's unbeaten. In their first 15 games should build on that solid foundation and win the league. Carelessness of the biggest order
Ye went badly wrong. No belief an injuries cost us

We lost our 15th at Wednesday. I was there with around 17k other Reds.
To be fair to City here they had just come up from the then 2nd Division. United had more money than City back then..
But now City are the real force
Reds all over the place
eamon mulcahy because City didn’t have much fans
Got legged all over the place

Hard to believe that a year later Alex Ferguson would finish out the season as manager.
