The "Old World" is a term for Afro-Eurasia coined by Europeans after 1493, when they became aware of the existence of the Americas. That makes you over five hundred years old! 🌍😉
I first saw Jan Francis in Secret Army which was a brilliant drama, sadly she was miscast & only really chosen for her part due to the fact she looked a fair bit like the real lady her part was loosely based on Andrée de Jongh the incredibly brave leader of the most successful WW2 evasion line, the Comet Line. Jan left after the first series.
@@TheWorldofGood79 Although i like a '1970's Jan Francis' i think it may have been a case of once she's been chosen to be an actress, they then have to find something for her to be in. I don't think i've come across anything that i really like her in, but i've not seen all her productions yet. What do you recommend ?
Great reminder of years gone by. When I was young in the seventies I really loved Jan Francis but didn't realise she looked so young, but we all did I suppose.
I think the execution superseded the concept. I mean, the get go is sorta intimacy harassment and at least offensively forward. It might be that only an Englishman would say thank you when being told to get lost. Excellent episode about loneliness. P.S. Beautiful intelligent dog.
How do you know what we like so much, Major. Jan Francis has some timeless classy vibe to her, yet I have been unaware of this drama which I will later watch.
That was splendid. With all those characters, it 'felt' like there was a potential sitcom series here. A kiss from both Jan Francis and Joan Bakewell - lucky Wilfrid!

Quite an enjoyable little parable, this. Not too deep but certainly not as shallow as some here would have you believe. A treatise on loneliness, yearning, economic anxiety and community. Why do I always ruin my experience though, by reading the comments section full of internet lost souls trying to convince themselves that this was a better place to be - 1977 - a year so grim that Punk broke into the mainstream. Thanks for sharing though, cheers HNY 🎉😉
So true, every time has its problems. I look with nostalgia at my childhood in the 1960s. I'm in my 60s now, but people living in those days aged much quicker then.
