The part of depression that they don’t talk about is how memories turn negative when we review them. A large part of my life has been spent trying to escape myself and become a totally different person with hopes of being as successful that dude or as confident and charismatic like so and so. I was just rarely comfortable in my own skin. Moving, traveling, turning one new leaf after another, rebirth, enlightenment, etc. I was constantly in flux shedding my skin as I attempted to escape and replace myself with a different better self that never seemed to materialize no matter how hard I tried. But lately, I've just been content being whomever I may be at the moment regardless of state I may be in. I'm still constantly trying to improve myself, but I'm also learning to appreciate who I am in the moment without anxiously searching and waiting for that elusive future better self to replace me.
The most important and hardest journey is the journey within. It is an awakening. It is painful even. But when we accept ourselves unconditionally, forgive ourselves for our mistakes and for being human, let go of negative self-talk and a whole lot of things that it takes to find ourselves, and ultimately love ourselves, it is so worth it. So, keep going.

I love that Matthew McConaughey is such an in-depth, introspective human being. He gives us all a fine example of how we each should really live life: willingness to be real, to look in the mirror, to engage in introspection and self-awareness, which not only benefits and GROWS our own true self, but also benefits and sets an example to others for approaching life and living fully. The being forced to do interviews like this during corona is actually a huge positive I think! Usually, when you (Tom) do Impact Theory there's all the cameras and angles and shots that make you and the interviewee look "perfect". But like this, seeing people in a normal room, without lighting effects and whatever gives it something real and I really do love that! I mean, that's what impact theory is ultimately about, right? To give people something real. And this makes it so much more relatable. Seeing these celebrities sitting in their homes just like me, that's real. That's a reminder that we are all in the same boat. Matthew I have enjoyed you through the years. I have been shy natured most of my younger years. When I had watched your confidences in your movies, I started to make myself more confident. As I really had no example to follow realistically. So, thank you for giving that confidence to me by helping or showing me what I could do if I reacted to your behavior. So, that was how I basically learned how to take or make a pattern to follow and live. Congratulations you are one of several abmirable persons I have learned from to build my life.
Tom Bilyeu, you are the best interviewer in today’s world... I love how your intuitive nature and how your ability to understand and see beyond the words to a deeper understanding or message pique the interest and seem to push your guests beyond what they seem to expect. Thank you! Love McConahey already but you brought out excitement and inquiry within himself I have not seen him respond this way in any other interview. Good job!
You know what I want to hear from you Tom, How to listen so keenly and to formulate such thought-provoking questions! I'm often surprised that you have been exposed to so much similar content yet you rarely jump in but rather just provide a stage for your speakers. Your comments at best only accents the message of your speakers. It's impressive how long you're able to stay engaged in this way.

I really love that his advice is so different from what people normally advise about self-awareness and direction: Be subjective. And if you're wondering which way to go, just pick and commit and see where it leads you.
I am so glad you did this interview. I first saw an interview with Gary V. I love me some Gary V. But he did not let Matthew speak a full thought.
"STYLE" - is knowing who you are, what you have to say - and NOT GIVING A DAMN" Gore Vidal
"it's not really a risk unless you lose the fight" lol he keeps dropping these gems bro
Yep I've been on that limbo looking back 10 years and realising I've lived the same year 10 times. Frightening to acknowledge how much time I've wasted. Great wisdom, thank you.
Another fantastic interview, McConaughey is a straight forward, honest, insightful, real human being. Tom continues to make the world a better place with his interviews.
28 mins in Matt gives probably the most important advice to anyone who is looking for their goal in life as a human being. Respect Dude
Thanks for the tip
I really love that his advice is so different from what people normally advise about self-awareness and direction: Be subjective. And if you're wondering which way to go, just pick and commit and see where it leads you.
What an awsome interview! Matthew is a stand up dude!
I am so glad you did this interview. I first saw an interview with Gary V. I love me some Gary V. But he did not let Matthew speak a full thought. Tom, you are one of the best interviewers because you let the guest speak but also guide the conversation through their lives. I can tell, you must do a ton of research into the guest and you must have a fantastic memory. This interview brought so much value to my life as I make a big career transition. The part about wanting something but not need something is so true. Keep up the good work.
I love what he talks about uncovering or creation. I think Tom spoke about this once as well, finding what interests you/what you're good at naturally and do you want to be that or not, is there a need for it?then working towards it.
Thank you 4 z interview, Tom and Matthew! Tom is on of the best interviewers on the net. Matthew McConaughey is a great actor. Great to see that he is an honest, opened and thoughtful person, as well as a writer. Would be great to see the book made into script, directed or acted future film by the author. Could be very timely and timelessly valuable, at the same time. Stay well and good luck to both of you!
From Seoul, South Korea, and the UT Alum of Korea, this was a great interview 👍
Ethernally grateful for this interview with one of my favourite people on planet Earth. Immense value in this 1 hour. Laughed my ass off at times, there are some hilarious stories he has. And the way he says and relives it, oh my... So good!
Thanks Tom!
Have been waiting for this one! Seems like Matthew is into podcasts - Joe Rogan, Tim Ferriss, just awesome. 👌🏽 Good one Tom!
His thought process is great insight!
He's been on more podcasts too lately. I guess it's for his book
I stopped watching tom interviews since it went home and not in person, but this one was way too good to miss. Oscar winner and Tom.
I absolutely love the concept I’m not asking permission. That doesn’t mean rolling over everybody without a care for the carnage that may be in your week as you go forward and more women need to learn not to ask permission to be who they are thank you Matthew
Martin Scorsese said something similar about breaking into ''the industry''....His advice was pretty much the same in saying '''Create your own industry''.
Mathew had done like 20 podcasts in the last month and I never get tired of him.
This is exactly what I needed right now thank you Tom thank you Matthew
Am I the only one making the correlation between Mathew's year in Australia in solitude and now facing the pandemic? Great lesson on tuning in with oneself and becoming self reliant, creating a controllable routine with measured daily outcome.
I am incredibly appreciative for Impact Theory and the high caliber, high frequency content made accessible to me. I’ve read so many books that have been suggested here. Mindset by Carol Dweck and others have lit me up. This interview and wisdom shared is timely. Getting Green Light ASAP! Thank you for sharing.
Major truth bombs Matthew, Inspirational and authentic. A breath of fresh air. Thank you both!
The interview I've been waiting for has finally arrived
Great interview. Loved how down to earth Mathew is. Great lessons to learn of embracing challenges and uncertainties in order to grow and expand our capabilities and confidence. Also to take responsibility and plan for tomorrow and for a better future for ourselves and our families
One thing I would’ve liked to see talked about is how he doesn’t have a victim mentality and how he came about having a creator mentality, like he said he was molested as a teen and never felt like a victim.
Well, I guess that explains why he has absolutely no fucking understanding of the concept of consent!
I was molested multiple times from various people, never felt like a victim.
@@chironOwlglass , Why do you say that? Has Matthew been accused of sexual assault?
This book is going on my list to read this year. I love the adventure and the self learning and awareness
Tom thank you so much for this interview , you’re the best🙏.
From a stringent year in Australia practicing self discipline, onto a walkabout in Africa, conceived from the inspiration of a dream. What a way to live your life! So many lessons, such an entertaining storyteller. McConaughey is one of the best actors of all time imho, because of the depth of his character. This was captivating, thank you both! 🤘
Who ever reads this please know:
You have so much potential inside you.
You are beautiful and strong.
Have a wonderful day ❤️.
Much love!🙏🏽
@new light That’s awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I try to keep my focus right, and not annoy people to make them watch the channel. Plus if they’re already annoyed they probably won’t like your video anyways.
I’ll keep keepin it real! And bringing the best content I have 🤓 Thanks for checking out my channel!
May the same be returned to you 🙏🏻♥️🌻🌻
This is just flow what we put out we get back
Loved your video thank you maybe we should all try this more especially in relation to stuff we hold back from doing due to fear
I'd listen to these two great men talk for days!
This is awesome. An incredible insight into personal development. Hell, I might just have to buy his book now.
WOW! WOW! JUST WOW! I have read the book out of the library like I always read from, bought and sent the book to my son, and still learned so much more from this interview. I am going to buy me my own copy of the book to highlight and reread. He is setting out to make a difference is each of our own lives by sharing with us what he has learned. I just rewatched him in the movie, A Time to Kill, and even his character in the movie is about doing the hard work and commitment through it. Greenlights!!!
I love how Matthew appears as a such a normal guy just on a normal phone call. That's priceless 😊
I've watched if not ten of the same interviews of him and his book, and this one right here, love love questions posed.
I REALLY enjoyed this talk. Thank you Tom and greetings from the UK.
“Less impressed more involved” the gotta gave it number 1 thing...1st aha I heard, grabbing the audio book now! Thanks for a great interview gentleman!
Wow That’s the first thing I’ve heard in a while that I completely resonate with; Inspiring and encouraging! It’s lit 🔥 can’t wait to hear and read the Book Green Lights On!!
To understand his message and the interview, you must do more than hear, do more than listen. You have to be in a place in your own life to where you can feel and connect with his "ENERGY" . Do not confuse his energy with his mood. Energy in Hertz,in frequency. Thank you both for a deeply spiritual and illuminating interview. Peace and love.
And if we can’t ????
@@indiracamotim2858there's a great quote that says: "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're always right". To change a belief (or set of beliefs) we must make it a life purpose to become more aware of our thoughts and emotions. When we are aware of what we don't want we can start to move towards what we want. One step at a time, even if you decide to sprint. :)
Sometimes I forget what an icon Tom is. Still feels like he's my bff only. 😂
Outstanding hour of conversation with a gazillion golden nuggets of serious, yet entertaining, life wisdom and lol moments. Plan to purchase book for my son. Tom's is masterful interviewer. Thank you!
I hope that one day when my work is so relevant, Im a Bossa Nova/Jazz singer, that I get to the top you will interview me too :) I love the I dont give a damn mentality really
Go girl!
I am in love with Bossa Nova covers :) believe you can :)
Tom your podcast is life changing
i love his phylosophy of life. i started pursuing similar behaviours as him in the past. i didnt know that they have 'name'
Matthew. I ain't seen most of your work but your mind and personality shine through.
I'm a fan.
Who would have thought that Matthew McConaughey is really a philosopher impersonating an actor 🤣HAHAHA
That's a compliment 👍🏾
Best comment ever lol
Yeah? Go roll around in a Lincoln eating Doritos with him. That's wisdom for the ages.

Thank you for writing this!!!
Matthew is the man with wisdom that I lean. Knowledge is about the past though..
Thank you for such great interview and your time
Alright, alright, alright!
Rule 1: Never ask for permission
You’re the only one that needs to give yourself the permission!
Hmmmm ... doesnt seem to work. I mean I gave myself to take that guys money, wife and life then fly away but ... I ended up in gaol. So 1/10 wouldnt recommend.

Wow man, Matthew is dropping some serious secrets here, maybe not secrets but things people just don't think about. The thing about him needing an agent subconsciously moving to number 2 on his list after the Germany trip blew my mind, I'm going to use that technique starting tomorrow, Thank you Tom!!!
2 of my favourite people!! Really enjoying watching this. Thanks.
They’re great to watch!
Mine too ❤️❤️ Amazing!
I've literally watched every interview that he's done about this book. Very impressive!!
Well well he's not just a pretty face, there is actual substance there! I cannot WAIT to listen to this book. Tom this was another GREAT interview. You are truly a master of interviewing. Good stuff.
Wow Tom!! You are interviewing the Matthew Mcconaughey!! He is a freaking movie star man!
Matthew's life experiences with past, present and future advice is extremely insightful..Thank you!
