    On Today's Episode:
What if the key to success and happiness you imagine is totally wrong? Maybe you think success is to be chased and happiness will happen when you finally arrive at the destination you set out for years ago.
Matthew McConaughey, the Academy-Award winning actor and New York Times bestselling author of the incredible book about his approach to life, Greenlights, is sharing his wisdom, revelations, and lessons on what’s been true for him in the pursuit of happiness and levels of success most only dream of.
Achieving success and happiness in your life requires you to learn how to hold competing ideas at the same time. It’s knowing when to go all in and go hard for what you envision and what gives you joy and energy. It’s also knowing when to step back and appreciate where you are on your journey because those moments matter and they keep you grounded.
Matthew has created a free virtual event, The Art of Livin, to help others get the results they’re looking for in pursuit of happiness and success. In this conversation he reveals to Tom why the vision he often chased was rarely what he thought it would be when he started the pursuit.
Check out Matthew’s Free Virtual Live Event April 24th: tomlivin.com/
    QUOTES:
“The headline I chase is always different than I thought it would be when I got there.”
“I got more results when I got obsessed with the process than I did when I was chasing results.”
“We have to start admitting more, not judging, [...] let’s admit the lies that we tell ourselves, let’s admit the lies that we believe the world tells us.”
“The more truly selfish we are to serve ourselves, the more we can serve others.”
“Commitment to get obsessed with making something work is a wonderful freedom.”

Have you ever seen the air pick up dust and spin it in a tiny whirlwind at your feet? The twirling particles reveal the current. Without this demonstration, the wind might remain invisible and whir by unnoticed.
Your habits demonstrate self-respect in the same way. Your inner regard is made manifest through your actions.
The next time you sense a breeze upon your face, let it remind you of the power within. Remember each time you follow through on a habit, you’ve just given form to the current of self-respect that stirs inside.

Tom, to your question of why it's so hard for people to say no, I think that inability is largely influenced by childhood.
Saying no means I have a voice and if my voice was shut down during childhood, the thought of saying no becomes a trigger of inferiority, of shame.
Our unhealed inner child thinks, "I am going to get in trouble-- scolded, for example-- if i speak up so I rather not speak up to avoid reprimand".
It's like the elephant that was tied to a rope and after some time the rope was removed, and as big as the elephant was it would only walk up to the distant that rope would allow it. So ultimately the unprocessed trauma of rejection prevents many many many people from giving straight answers.
And many people don't know what they want because they weren't brought up that way, to think for themselves and/or think critically. Both in the home and at school they were treated like cattle, hearded mindlessly to wherever the "leader" wanted.

Agreed, but only to a degree.
If you have more than enough money, clearly a certain amount of stress and frustration is eliminated. Period. That's where I agree.
However, I disagree when it comes to our individual, personal mindset. Money is very limited when it comes to the way we think. Sure, when a person wins the lottery, they're happy they won!! No doubt. But they choose to turn their back on the financial advice the professional accountants and lawyers have offered. The winner spends crazily because they have no concept of the bottom, when the $$$ runs out...basically, I'm trying to say that their mind can create misery, or happiness. We can choose no matter how much money we have, or not. We choose to seek help with our minds, or not. If we turn our backs on the positive, we're left with the negative, no matter how much money we have.
Over time, the excitement of the WIN will wear off. Then we'll only be left with your minds.
F the money. It is not an overall "happiness" fix. However, I sincerely hope money drops into your lap, so you can learn first hand. Seriously. Plus, if I am wrong, and the money helps you be a happier person, that in and of itself is a win. Your happiness makes this world a better place!!

...I used an example of a lottery winner, but what of the savvy entrepreneur? That real money maker. What of him/her? Perhaps they work so hard at their ever evolving goals, that they lose sight of their loved ones. Now they're left with only work and money. Poor lonely soul. But they can 'buy' friends and 'loved ones,' right? Riiiiiight. Only they are not the real deal, are they? What's really sad, are the billionaires who can't trust ANYONE. Ask them how money has helped with their happiness (philanthropy, I hope).
Moral...be happy. Laugh. Love. Feel joy at simply looking at a rose that has lost its petals in the Autumn chill, only to discover that a brownish green 'star' was left behind the top of the stem.
That's where happiness really lives, my friend.

In my 49 years I feel like the journey IS the goal . I know a lot of wealthy people who are constantly chasing something they are never going to find . There are people in mansions right now bored out of their minds who have fake friends and hire prostitutes . Money should never be the goal . Take care of your body and eliminate the things that cause you stress . Humans are inherently flawed . Getting the money , the house , the nice cars ,and the 2 kids is a very small part of the big picture. The faster people understand this the more beautiful life is .

I'm so happy Tom loved this and had him on the show! Love Mathew, love what he's doing inside his four walls at home. We need more of that. Heck, my parents divorced, and it affected my family for decades. It's not easy. In this world, we need family, family values, respect for our elders...just like what he's talking about. Our elders deserve a seat at the table, they are not to be shunned, and WE are not to be shunned for earning our wrinkles of wisdom. And we should take care of our older family members, not pawn them off to some facility so they can be taken care of by a bunch of strangers who don't really care for them and at worse abuse them.

Just curious: Do you ever go beyond the most superficial and cliched of pseudo-spiritual and self-help chatter? It's both sad and annoying to hear the topic of self-actualization dumbed down to this with a guy who is pretending to be more advanced and dispensing such drivel, now that he's intoxicated with the role of a celebrity guru who is simply full of himself. Gee, maybe this is all a kind of performance art where the actor is portraying himself as a faux guru who doesn't know he's full of crap but gets millions to follow him down the rabbit hole. Brilliant. By the way, Tom, "ought" and "should" mean the same thing. Choosing to replace one with the other is not the turning point that leads to enlightenment.

I believe that when it comes to our fear of failure it isn't because we're too attached to the achievement itself but because we're too attached to the idea that our value, our right to exist and to be loved, is attached to the belief of conditional love. In other words, we don't want to fail because we believe that people won't see just a person who tried and failed but that that person is a failure itself, just not good enough. So why would anyone respect and love someone that can't achieve things in a world that values lives based on comparisons and achievements?
It's important to shift that in our psyche and our society. It's important that we treat ourselves and others as valuable people independent of what they do and what they have. And I think that being a religious person can help in that because once you're a Christian, for example, you know that you should love others as He loved us. That others are just as valuable to the Father as we are.

I got caught up in Matt's promise of profundity and insight when he went on his youtube book tour promo. I was so intrigued, i bought his book. Initially i was excited and was impressed with his experience, insight, wisdom, unique perspective etc..... But i found myself souring the more a got through his book and actually just gave up reading half way through...... I came to believe that he was almost like a cult leader, fake guru..... And his use of beautiful combination of words, and 50% wise observations......... it seemed he promised he was going to bring the goods and i ended up feeling like a sucker who gave money to a con man/ scam artist. An actor, who's star had fallen, who had run out of ways to make big easy money. Green lights, was just like a cutesy gimmick, with no substance, no profound wisdom. Matt seems to believe it's ok to lie, cheat, scam, false advertise, steal, assault, make up stories, and the truth doesn't matter as long as you tell a good story. What a shmuck. I stopped reading half way through his book, and felt like i was just a sucker who got glamored by a shiny lure. So, for all people thinking about buying his book, if you buy it, don't expect anything profound or true, just read it like a fairy tale that may or may not be worth reading. If anything, read the book to gain insights on how a scam artist thinks. I stopped reading his book with a bad taste in my mouth thinking "Matt saw people like me as a mark, and i was duped"

So Matthew finally got tired of being the guy on magazines with his shirt off, after banging god knows how many women and making god knows how many millions... so going deeper than that was the only way to go AND SURVIVE!!
Good for him though, but I am still not too sure how much truth he can really handle without his ego hurting into flames.... I still see a lot of ego talking shit. So my wish for him is that he goes deeper, and still live in this world... the BEST parts of Nietzsche would help him a lot. Nietzsche says we speak of the ego as if it were the most well known thing in the world... and later he speaks of The Last Man as an idea, which is what Matthew here seems to be referring to, and also to be on the verge of overcoming... But as Nietzsche says too, "If you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you", if you don't survive that staring contest, you may never be able to come back...

I'm guessing Tom Bilyeu's mic is a condenser microphone because they generally seem to be more high-quality in the sense that their technology seems to be way more receptive than dynamic microphones. My question to the audio technicians in the comments section is what settings is Tom Bilyeu using on his microphone to make him sound so good? At first, I thought he had a stuffed nose but now I'm not so sure. I would like to know how he is hiding sharp high-pitched notes and keeping it low (with a buzzing sound).

    It’s a mind “f”.

    mundane.

    Mathew:
The biggest lie or "coolAid" we need to acknowledge and at the same time get rid of, is the god belief itself... once free you might be able to think clearly and make new guidelines for your future... THAT is in fact the only way to "be godlike"... just look closely at all the mind twisters you must go through to make those ends meet, it is NOTTTT necessary at all. But in your delusion about your belief in god you might be thinking I am the devil "temping" you!!

Everyone has Christ within they just haven’t been awakened to the Christ within, wether you believe it or not. This has nothing to do with religion. We all have that hole within until Christ is formed and awakened in us. It’s a higher order of thinking, doing and becoming-higher consciousness. It’s the highest frequency that one can live on. “The Word (Christ) gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.” 1 John 1:4

I like to think as human beings we are inherently selfish and only when we embrace that consciously, we can fulfill ourselves using delayed gratification and therefore have an excess that our subconscious is "happy" with so we can not only be consciously generous but subconsciously aswell as we tend to overvalue our thinking and decision making skills versus undervaluing out subconscious brain which craves things.

  • @allenhammer7923
    @allenhammer7923 Год назад

Your living out Bible law and seeing the blessings that don't it some odd brainwashing in the system about what selfish is or self interest. But what kind of warps us in the mind your calling an ultimate selfishness meaning you prosper by doing it is because it is what he says to do. It say's somewhere don't seek your own wealth (Those who seek riches are shot through with many arrows (You can not get here from there)). God says seek to make other wealthy. I do that by telling the stone cold hard truth as it is revealed to me. I look at folks and have discernment of spirits to know what they need freedom from, or a change in diet. I am just learning and keeping what works in a very dynamic world. There is a God who gives me word of knowledge sometimes. Direction when I ask. How fix what won't be fixed. Kindness counts but folks make the mistake of fearing rejection or negative future with this stranger if you don't keep it all positive no matter what. Men can not operate in that personality morhing to win trust and acceptance that most do rather than be honest and show motives and just ask the question if you were on the other side of this deal how would you think and feel? It say to treat others the way you want to be treated, I am part Russian Polish it seem to be a personality trait of culture. Course I admit, the south is the opposite.

The clip about Jung/Peterson and Christ is about chasing Christ as the ideal. The piece they are missing is what happens when Christ penetrates the heart through the Holy Spirit, it fills that God sized hole. We begin to feel peace and joy. It transforms us from the inside, heals the soul, changes our desires, our wants, thoughts and motivations. The things we used to love lose their meaning. What we considered small things now have much more meaning.

WHEN WE ATTACH TO LIFES CIRCUMSTANCES BY OUR FREE WILL WE SLIP INTO DIFFERENT REALITIES, ANGER, FEAR, DESPAIR. HOW DID JESUS AS MAN HEAL THE LEPAR, BLIND, BORN WITHOUT LIMBS INSTANTLY. HE CHANGED REALITY TO GODS VIEW. JESUS TOLD SAID THOUGHTS OF MAN DO NOT LEAVE THE EARTH AND CAUSE MAN TO WORSHIP IDEALS. NEGATIVE BINDS, LIGHT POSITIVE FREE.

In reguards to the icarus story, I think it's safe to say that the story still makes sense as humans tend to walk, but we rarely try to fly. But the moral is that flying is great but we shouldn't pretend we have the wings created by god or deserve to get too close to the gods. The gods made our mind which is a powerful tool, enough to create wings and we should do as humans do but the wisdom is to not try to be anything more than a human.
