Pokemon Trainer Ash Ketchum Old companion dawn (Pokemon Trainer Dawn) in pokemon diamond and pearl anime series (pokemon anime), pokemon ash and pokemon dawn were friend back in the anime series, back then ash is known as sinnoh ash (with ash sinnoh outfit). Dawn is in her sinnoh dawn (dawn sinnoh outfit) same as the one in pokemon diamond and pearl game but anime dawn (dawn anime) is not to be mistaken with game dawn (dawn game).

All status conditions got nerfed in sun and moon except poison. Confusion only has a 33% chance of doing self inflicted damage instead of 50%, Burns do less damage and paralysis has only a 50% speed drop now instead of 75%. So for Greninja to not hit itself while being confused is highly possible.
