      I totally understand you and our parents don't know just how much their words cause a lot of pain. You're still very young at 24 and don't stress out too much because stress causes a lot of mental and even physical health problems.
      It is important to remind yourself that a job doesn't qualify your worth. You are already worthy as you are and you don't have to have all answers about life right now. Its okay to figure it out at your own pace.❤

      I was living with my father when I first graduated too. Until one day he got drunk and bared his mind about how much of a failure he thinks I am. Called me a liability and all sorts. That was when I summoned the courage to move on. It's been tough, but I do not regret going out on my own. I wish you success Eunice.

    Unfortunately, some of us don't have a place to call home, or there is, but there is no peace at all. Something else: you might have a home, but the situation there is wanting, implying that returning there and being the last hope would break their hearts. Speaking on behalf of men, going back home is never the best idea, as long as you are healthy. Remember, there's an age when you will never associate yourself with family background because you, yourself, will have become the background; there will be no excuses, and you will live in guilt as a failure. For all men, keep the wheel rolling; don't look at the inheritance at all. Avoid comfort zones. Thank you

    • @Jepisms
      @Jepisms  Месяц назад +3

      This kind of pressure for men to have everything figured out is the cause of the rising mental health issues and its worse because they have been taught not to seek help because it is seen as being weak.
      Men should be allowed to be failures because failure is part and parcel of life.
      Yes, a lot of people don't have a place to call home because they are not welcomed unless they have 'achieved' something and this mentality needs to change because it promotes the idea of "better a dead successful child than a 'useless' living child"

    There is no justification whatsoever of being a dependent adult. This is the same logic that gay/trans people use, opposing and ideology yet it is the same reason why they exist. You are dependent because your parents are independent and while you can live in the same house with them you should strive to contribute rather than take....add more to what they have already established. if its a house build another, if its land buy more...expand the family wealth...there is no fault in living with your folk and actually that's how life is supposed to be but you need to be there as a contributor not a taker once you have fully developed physically. Remember the only reason you were not pushed to be a contributor in your early life is because your brain and body hadn't developed fully and you needed time to learn and be competent. But past 18-20 your are more than qualified to contribute
    One reality that most older youth dependent on their parents fail to admit is that they take more than they can give and deep down they are or will eventually be a burden to the family(even though no one can tell them straight to their face)...so as a person between the age of 20-35, always set a goal of being a contributor. stay with your parents and take good care of them and multiply their wealth.

    • @Jepisms
      @Jepisms  Месяц назад +2

      Can't relate to this because as a firstborn daughter, i have always been a giver. In fact, all my accomplishments were for the sole purpose of making my parents and family proud.
      The problem is that contribution is only deemed worthy when its financial or quantitative and yet there are so many qualitative contributions that children make to their parents that's not counted. and of course this is because of the capitalist societies we have evolved to become.
      Its myopic to assume that people between 20-35 should be dependent when in a country like Kenya, its the demographic that is paralysed by policies that prevent them from starting anything especially when they don't come from financially privileged families.

      Good for you for being a giver! However, as an influencer, it's important to understand that many of your audience members, who are in similar situations, may lean more towards taking than giving.
      Contribution isn't only valuable when it's quantitative, but the reality is that we rely on tangible resources to survive. Kindness and humility are admirable traits, but they don't put food on the table. Life can be boiled down to a simple cycle: seek, find, feed, and repeat. If you're not contributing to this cycle, you may not be seen as worthy.
      Furthermore, the common narrative among some Africans of attributing low status to a lack of privilege or poor governance is becoming less tenable. We've been an independent country for 61 years-three generations In The Modern World and post WW2 for God's sake. If you include the pre-colonial period, perhaps another 1000 more. We have had more than enough time to build formidable societies but we've failed. Privilege isn't given; it's earned, whether ethically or unethically. No civilization in the world has been gifted privilege-they've all earned it. Even the Israelites, God's chosen people, had to earn their place.
      Ironically, Africa has historically had some of the best conditions for thriving: great weather, relatively fewer instances of major wars, a wealth of resources and minerals, and favorable geography. The lack of privilege is a result of our own actions-or inactions. We lack good leaders because we choose bad leaders. Ultimately, we have only ourselves to blame.
      While I may have strayed from the main topic, my point remains: there's no justification for being a dependent adult. Let's all strive to take action. If you're over 20 and not contributing financially to your family, you're not aiding the survival of your lineage and are, instead, becoming a burden. The only adults exempted from this are pregnant women, mothers raising infants & preadolescent kids, and convalescents. Get out there and do something, lets all reject comfort.

      From 2:02 - 2:20:
      It's not insanity; remember, we are an evolving species. We try various approaches to a problem and eventually choose the one that works best. While abandoning your family and starting a new life is not the ideal approach (and I fully agree with you on this), it's important to live closer to opportunities which are mostly found in urban areas and our parents being in the village doesn't help us much now does it?
      No one is trained solely to be an obedient worker. We go through school to gain as much knowledge and as many skills as possible, and then we are free to apply what we've learned wherever we choose-whether through employment or starting our own ventures. No one forces us into a particular path.
      Moreover, people often complain about the modern world and its issues, but I challenge you to point to a specific year or period in history you'd prefer to live in. You'll quickly realize that, while things may seem bad now, they've often been worse in the past. The best time to live is now. We just don't pay enough attention to history to understand how messed up things have always been.
      Modernity, technology, advanced medicine, access to a wide variety of resources, the lack of major wars, and the ability to travel anywhere anytime-all of these are possible because of education and so-called 'obedient workers'. Actually, these workers are the reason why we are here on RUclips sharing our thoughts and connecting with each other. Duty often requires sacrifice, and we are all called upon to serve in our own ways. While some may receive more than they deserve, we are gradually working to improve or evolve beyond the current capitalist model. At the moment, capitalism has been effective, especially for Kenya. We are ahead of our East African neighbors, despite lacking natural resources, thanks to capitalism and our hardworking people (Educated and Trained Obedient Workers).
      Any Kenyan youth who reads this understand that living in your parents house most likely means you are living in the village and that limits you from having access to a lot of opportunities. Plenty of opportunities are in urban areas, unless your work can be done remotely then you are free to live anywhere, but for the young ones lets not purpose to live under our parents roof, strive to relocate to urban areas, at first you won't be able to afford buying a house thus start off by renting ata kama ni single room and build on from there. Life is a burden by itself and to tackle it it requires a period of sacrifice and pain. its inevitable. You need to start from somewhere especially if you are not privileged and the more unprivileged you are the more you will have to suffer. But it's all for a good cause. Suffer in this decade, be smart enough and make gradual progress to ensure the next decade finds you in a better situation. But all of us resorting to staying with our parents in the village to avoid living like dogs, then we limit ourselves to progress and the African narrative continues.
