    If all the rumours and "leaks" that were floating are to be believed then we're likely close to the game getting major hints soonish maybe by the end of this year. Especially if this game only has the 4-6 dlcs that were rumoured to be left. They'd need to look on to the next big thing and this is clearly it. Let's chat! Something which needs to be done, as I'm afraid it will be even more detrimental to skirmish units of 40k than the older games, is the fact that they need to fix the problem where when you give a movement order to skirmish units, they do not shoot on the unit you asked them to shoot anymore, and shoots the first enemy unit the ai would shoot instead

  • @Caldwing
    @Caldwing 4 месяца назад +6

    I make basically the same comment every time this topic comes up: It's a good idea, but there would need to be major, major changes to how battles work. A completely different engine. Warhammer is about large-scale formations of massed infantry with powerful single entities mixed in. You are moving around big groups of units, like in Total War.
    40K is a squad level tactical game where _individual soldiers_ for the most part are tactically positioned with cover and all that. 40K will look incredibly stupid if it ends up being a bunch of space marine in fields lining up in ranks to stand stock still and exchange volleys like they were part of Napoleon's army. I have said it before and I will say it again: The Total War battle format is simply not suitable for any theatre of war that exists after the invention of repeating rifles. After this point standing or even moving in the open during an active firefight is basically suicide. Even WWI makes no sense at all and I really hope if the rumours are true and they do make this, that it's more of a squad level thing like 40K should be. It should look more like Steel Division 2 than like current Total War.

      If they make Total Warhammer 40k, id imagine it would be closer to something like Epic scale warhammer like Epic 40k or Legions Imperialis, where single squads are more on the wayside and the main focuse is on large formations of massed infantry, supported by mechanized elements (granted you can also play with armored elements only) instead of 40k's and 30k's more small squad focus

    The problem with 40k is it’s a lot more tactical.
    Would it be amazing? Sure.
    But it would be harder to pull off because maps would have to be absolutely massive and there would be like 100 planets at least on release

      Ah yes, the famous Ork generals of 40k. I too would be instantly pulled out of immersion if my orks don't show off their tactical genius :D
      A galaxy map would be easier to handle tbh. Warhammer ME you can move on every inch of the map, each stap has a map for it (btw a huge reason why most maps suck balls)
      A galaxy map would be less work as you just have to connect planets together, and that would help Ai navigate it more, leaving CA room to focus more on quality maps, instead of a giant campaign map that more often than not is just a slog to fight through

    • @lewishorsman2219

      @@mcmarkmarkson7115 but that’s the issue. 40K lore has many minor and major battles on each planet.
      There are multiple singular planet-wide battles that are done in one fell swoop but the vast majority are often smaller engagements.
      If the game sticks to the lore, each planet could take multiple battles to complete.
      Great for recurring gameplay but could get very bloody tedious quickly

    @quimble2177 4 месяца назад +9

    I don’t think many said Warhammer fantasy could never work? One of the most popular med 2 mods is literally a Warhammer fantasy mod lol. Also long comment time, apologies.
    My issue with total war 40K is it takes a total engine change, and a gameplay overhaul. People will say “no it doesn’t” but it absolutely fucking does. Having circles of guys standing in a field shooting each other with automatic weapons would look fucking stupid.
    So, instead you’d need smaller units, with a CoH or Men of War style cover system, with the ability to spread on them dynamically. On top of that, you’d need to figure out the balance between a tactical squad (it won’t be because primaris exist but it’s an example) vs a guard squad. But you can’t have 100 man guard squads, that would look dumb as fuck, so you’d need individual 10-20 man’s, but they’d get pasted so is it a 5 man? A single model? But where’s the fun and the scale in that right?
    So then you can perhaps suggest you don’t recruit individual guard units but companies, say an infantry company has 4 platoons. So 12-24 10-20 man squads, 12 heavy weapon squads and a couple conscript units of 30 + the command squad + chimera
    A tank company has 10 total tanks, 3 sets of 3 and a command tank.
    But the overall issue remains that it would massively change TW’s combat, and no, you can’t just do a Great War mod for napoleon, that doesn’t look cool or neat, it looks dumb.
    You’d need to re-work shit from the ground up.
    Then there’s void battles which are as important if not MORE important than the fighting on planet due to how much benefit void supremacy provides, and idk if CA is up to that, specially with things like boarding actions which should *really* be it’s own thing entirely given the size of 40K vessels.
    Now, I wouldn’t mind a 40K game, by CA, with the scale and campaign map fuckery of TW under a different title or some kind of subtitle to denote it as different to a traditional total war, which you could use to have *more* variety, WWII for example could be done, as that is more in line with 40K combat than traditional TW combat.

      There was a game called tom clancy's end war that was basically total war lite with companies of soldiers and vehicles rather than squads with cover systems and garrisonable buildings.
      So it can be done, it's just can CA do it.

    • @quimble2177
      @quimble2177 4 месяца назад +1

      @@JakeBaldwin1 Yes, it can be done. But not as Total War Currently is. Not to mention, we like our battles to look cool, Yes? We want Depth to them? What Depth is there with a squad of 100 idiots, clumped in say, 5 groups of 20? You sit them there, have them shoot, and you can't take 2 squads to flank, you can't have 2 take position in a building to cover the rest. No, for the best gameplay, you want to Recruit companies that *Properly* break down into small squads if it makes sense for that unit. Space Marines for example, would be 1 to 1, recruit Tactical squad or intercessor squad, you get 1 ten man squad. Guard, you recruit one Infantry company, you get 12-24 10 man infantry squads, 4 12 man Heavy weapon teams, 1-4 30 man conscript squads, 4 platoon command squads and one company command squad. We get the scale of Total War, with more tactical depth than 1 single 100 man Guard unit provides.

    • @MrRaziza
      @MrRaziza 4 месяца назад +1

      This is quite the amount of overthinking, you're creating problems that don't *need* to exist, and then saying it won't work because of that.
      First off, the game would be a game, not a recreation of the entire 40k universe with pure lore accuracy and scale-accuracy. Void battles don't need to be included, Dawn of War and Gladius have already pulled off single-planet maps with a mosh-pit of factions. How many tanks are in a company is completely irrelevant, single entities already exist and are balanced, there is no reason to 10x that scale.
      I do think having a blob of 100 guardsmen would be a bit silly, but you don't need to jump to recruiting entire companies with multiple different unit types and command and tanks to solve that. All you need to be able to do is break up said 100-man squad into 5x 20 man squads. That lets you keep the scale of the guard having walls of flesh between the enemy and their backline bombardments, without putting them into ludicrous blobs. Other units, like heavy weapons teams, hotshots, Scions, can all very easily be their own unit. Balancing will decide how all of those units feel to play, forcing lore-accuracy only hurts these games, which is why they've never emphasized it in TWW3. They could certainly do some neat things with splitting units, like having research/upgrade mechanics to give those squads better weapons or have a few of them sling scarier guns, but it doesn't need to be overly complicated.
      Obviously, a lot of changes would need to be made to the battles. Open field battle maps most certainly need to be more or less exchanged for terrain/cover heavy areas, line of sight would play a much larger role because of that, and much of the "line clashing" combat would not exist. The cover mechanic would need to be expanded, balance would have to change in regards to ranged unit's accuracy, all of which is very much doable in their engine as it exists.
      There are valid concerns, of course, nailing the enjoyability of this new (likely more micro-intensive) system would be a task, balancing the inclusion of more vehicles and small-sized but scary units is another challenge, but all are far from impossible.

    • @quimble2177
      @quimble2177 4 месяца назад +1

      @@MrRaziza thing is I don’t think most people would be happy with just a Single planet. They should be, but the TW community seems ravenous. Bigger, better, more, always. So you’d need void battles, plus. I just really want them back personally
      Frankly, I think TWWH as a series is a mid TW game, a fun game, a decent game in general, but a mid Total war game and 40K total war…wouldn’t be total war at all. Total war has a very specific identity. Formation fighting, infantry blocks and cavalry charges and siege engines, this includes Warhammer btw which is why I say even if it’s a lesser TW game, it still *is* a TW game. 40K…well just the maps alone would be different. You’d need pre-built defence lines, large urban cities with multiple enterable buildings. Small settlement battles would still be large urban areas. Actual proper big settlements….I frankly think would need to be multi-battle. The outside of the walls, against the walls, and inside the hive city itself or you simply fail to capture the *scale* of 40K. It’s not a one and done thing, it takes years to take single bastions at times if they’re defended well enough.

    Warhammer 40K as setting would be interesting but I wonder how it will work. In my opinion, if they kept it to a single planet then I think it would be hard to add in other races like the Necrons and the Tyranids but if it spans multiple worlds then that creates problems in and of itself especially since CA is no longer doing naval combat. Epic space battles between fleets should be a thing, in my opinion.

    Mate... your logic is VERY stretched and you need to understand that total war doesn't work with 40k. You're either farming clicks or just don't get it. I'm going for the latter since I like your stuff.
    40k is an objective based skirmish title
    WHFB is rank and flank blood bath.
    40k tabletop is closer to COH and other WW2 strategy games. You have a small number of models, flexible squad formations and individual model positioning and cover is vital to winning or losing. A good potion of the factions (marines, grey knights, custodes, clowns, Dark eldar, Normal eldar and sisters) don't hold territory. They're elite strike forces that complete an objective and bug the hell out.
    I get that you really want to see your two love interests merge, but you need to understand that it can only go two ways:
    A completely different title from the ground up with total war tacked onto the branding (upsetting people worse than DOW 1 & 2)
    or
    A reskined total war that plays like ass, pissing off more people and killing any hope of a decent 40k strategy title.

    Point of order, I never thought Warhammer fantasy couldn't work as a total war game. I always though it was a great idea, and it was. Fantasy medieval combat is probably even better for the total war tech than real medieval combat. 40k is a whole other thing, yes the tabletop game is quite close and melee focused, and you could probably do that bit some fair justice. But the lore and world of 40k is so much bigger than the tabletop 40k game. Total war would have to manage battles at the epic scale, it would have to know what to do with air craft and space ships and multiple planets and warp travel (because there is no way a single planet could host even half the 40k races/factions together in a single ongoing war). Its not impossible, but it is a completely different game requiring an entirely new engine (which it is about time for to be fair). I just don't see creative assembly making that sort of investment at the moment. But I would love to be proved wrong. My fear is if they try and do it on the cheap it just won't be any good.

    Even if Warhammer 40K makes way more money than Warhammer 3 DLC, there is no reason to stop supporting Warhammer 3 and creating DLC if the DLCs are still sold well and people keep playing. I mean, yes the team will likely be much smaller, the release would be reduced to maybe 1 DLC per year, but they would keep making them imo.
    And lets be honest, even with Warhammer 40K release, after a while people will revert back to playing Warhammer 3. The game would have like 9-10 years of longetivity by that time, a new game wouldn't be able to match the depth, and also the amount of mods. Its the same case as 3 Kingdoms, people were just back to Warhammer 2 after 1 month. Warhammer 40K would need like 2-3 years of DLCs and modding at least to compete with Warhammer at this stage.

    Maybe add a bit more line of sight blocking terrain to battle maps (rock formations, ruins).
    40k is not an impossible task. It's just a matter of whether CA will do it right.

    I think the main problem for 40k total war version will be campaign map implementation. Will it be all on one (mega?) planet? Will there be a sector of space? What about entire know galaxy, but simplified. Also gameplay wise, the battles will feel less like total war and more like dawn of war/company of heroes, but without basebuilding part.

    I have a feeling 40k and the next historical are well behind schedule. Especially with the layoffs. Hence why they are dumping way more love into their active products. They went from having to keep them around for 2 more years to maybe 4 years.

    I wonder whay 40k total war campaign would work. Would it be something like a Cadia campaign for sxample like how the vortex campaign works. Or maybe like Empire total war with theatres of war and moving an army to a certain location would travel them to another theatre over the end turn.
    Would they design something so crazy like you can zoom out and you go into a 2d map ehich is space but it works like the oceans in warhammer. Think that would be too much of a design ask.
    Either way, wonder what on earth it woipd turn out like

    No, tanks firing in close combat isn't 40K.
    40K is the commissar popping out on top of the tank going "Drive me closer. I want to hit them with my sword."
