  • Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, who started his career as an assistant to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, said the culture shock at his sets used to drive him nuts. "You're working 25 hours a day, seven days a week, and my salary's ₹2,500 a month. You're transported into this world, which is a bit of a shock in the first place," Motwane added. #vikramadityamotwane #devdas #sanjayleelabhansali #sitwithhitlist

That's the kind of exposure you get at a very young age if you are well-connected in the film fraternity. At 19, I was busy submitting assignments to my university.

Bhansali's filmmaking rests squarely on lavish set design and melodrama.

      Try his first film 'Khamoshi'.
Complete anti-thesis of what you claim.
      His film "Black' was superlative!

Yah.. but I still find SLB movies quite mediocre. They are very pretentious. Getting costumes and sets immaculate cannot cover for average story stelling. I like Anvita Dutt's movies on the other hand. They are quite grand and artistic, along with very good substance to take it ahead.

Humans have this problem, cannot be master of all. SLB's focus is on the visual aspects more.

yupp.. he is extremely overrated. He himself seems like a pretentious prick. There is never any novelty in his stories or story telling. Just big ornate sets and that is it! The toughest thing that deepika did in one of his movies was dancing in a 20kg lehenga (she mentioned in an interview). Like, no - character research, getting into the character, reading and researching about what they were doing.. nope.. none of that. 20 kg lehenga was the biggest challange!

Completely agree.Other than Bajirao perhaps all his movies are basically visual over content.but again nobody can match Sanjay in the visuals department.picture perfect frames.

VM is not in the same league as SLB. Sanjay is a genius and he makes movie in the true bollyood genre of what indian movies are without trying to be like from the west.

People who ask for better and better are considered to be difficult because people are lazy. The person at the helm can't accept mediocrity, especially the ones completely immersed in it.

@@avinavprasai7940 I don't doubt that. His movie Udaan and Lootera is my kind of movie. He is brilliant. People have different ways of dealing with situations. He does not slack as far as content creation is concerned. His way of dealing with emotions is very understated but complex and beautiful like Ray's who is my favorite filmmaker.Bhansali's larger than life. I am sure Vikramaditya does not go ahead with a project unless he is sure he has it as he wants it.

Bhansaali is overrated and least creative director. Making remakes, biopics and adaptations. Seriously no originality. Only dumb indian audiance will love his non creative movies. Although costumes and sets are the best things for his films.
