Sound clips, after RUclips's compression algorithm has ruined them, are difficult to make judgements on, even with high quality headphones. But I have to say, this FG9 sounds very impressive to me. The D-41 certainly delivers all the rich, full, deep base response and projection everyone expects and demands from a high quality dreadnought. It's an amazing guitar (even with all that gaudy abalone all over it), but the FG9 seems to provide a similar richness, without as much of the "mushiness" I hear in dreads. The clarity of this guitar sounds as good as a small-body OM or Triple-0, but with the room-filling awesomeness of a dreadnought. I want to hear one in person, but from what I am hearing online, I'm pretty sure I need to have one.

I currently own a HD-28, D-28 Modern Deluxe and the FG9R. I’ve always been the world’s biggest Martin fan. But, the clarity and sustain of the FG9R simply outshines both of my D28s.

Had the opportunity to play a FG9R at Guitar Center and was very impressed. I actually liked it better than the D28 I also played there. Well, it should sound better, it was 900 dollars more expensive than the Martin!

The Yamaha sounds more dreamy and will suit most songs and music. And when the woods get older from playing, it will sound even better.

I own a d41 the Yamaha has a lot more overtones, when it matures it will really stand out.

As much as i like this Yamaha, Martin just sounded better in this review. Could it be the string?

I much prefer the LL series over the FG. This is a good comparison ruclips.net/video/Jms2Z7or_tw/видео.html

I would say so. I almost sold a Boucher because of the factory-installed strings, which happen to be the same ones Yamaha is using. After switching to warmer, more natural sounding strings the Boucher became the best guitar I've ever played.

Not even close .... the Martin delivers mostly the sound of the strings. The Yamaha brings the full 3-dimensional sound of the guitar body on the table. Different class.

The d41 doesn't sound bad obviously, but it sounds like a lower end Yamaha lol... the FG9 is a tonally balanced beast, the D41 is... well.. A d41
