    "Is Genshin Impact actually this lore heavy?"
    That sensation of the earth shaking underneath you is from every Genshin fan simultaneously collapsing in hysterical laughter. It would have been smaller, but they all also dropped their binders full of timelines, charts, mythological texts, and books of esoteric philosophies.

    Just a heads up, If you want to explore genshin for lore, lore is everywhere. It's in books, weapon descriptions, food dish descriptions, character stories, side quests, main story, random fountain outside the opera house, artifact descriptions, and more. There's a hidden place where child sacrifices happened know as Enkanomiya. The lore is very deep and very dark. Also, some of the lore is locked behind events that won't return. Also, the sky is hinted at being fake. There is also flowers that are red thanks to blood soaked battlefields from war. There is so much lore, it's wild.

      I mean, if you do descend once into the lore, you just keep falling into more. I love how some players reacted to the fontaine quests as „omg, the story in this game got so dark now“, and then I think back to the days of aristocracy of mondstadt, the sun children of enkanomiya and what happened in liloupars backstory. The story can be intense, and the only thing I dislike about the lore of this game is that it is mostly locked behind walls of unvoiced quests and scattered around on papers across teyvat, so you rarely can sit down and instantly read the lore, but you have to fight your way to it. And then there is still whatever mr nine wrote in his books in game…

    Genshin lore goes fucking insane and it's hidden everywhere. I mean, what other game just tells you that the entire world is (allegedly) trapped in a seemingly infinite repeating timeloop by leaving a piece of paper on the ground. No over arching story. It sounds like a you go to spot on map, something happens on spot on map, you resolve what happens on spot on map, you go to next spot on map, rinse, and repeat.
      It's a writing style that allows for infinite story potential without the need to question your appearance in events because the story isn't about you but about the people you meet.
      You aren't going through arcs, the world itself is... but it also reduces if not outright destroys any investment for your character in this game because ultimately you and your character don't matter in the story. You are a literal tool of progression in this world tour quest rather than its driving force towards an overarching goal.

    "Lore heavy" is an understatement. Even the goddarn currency has lore behind it. The stories of Mondstadt and Liyue are overall good, though nothing crazy, then there's Inazuma (derogatory), but after that Sumeru and Fontaine quests are absolutely amazing, and we've just witnessed an insane finale to the Fontaine Archon Quest that cemented is as the single best archon quest in the entire game.

    I just have to say, the reason I started playing Genshin Impact, was because I heard the story was interesting. And I do have to say I wasn't disappointed. Yes, the start is hard to get through, but that just makes it so much more worth when the mysteries in Genshin build. Legit, after every Archon Quest this one dude comes and just makes you ask more and more questions.
    The Archon quest in Fontaine was also incredibly good. Jaiden covered the first arc of the plot without getting into too much detail.
    And I just want to say I really love this game. Sure it has its downsudes. They are some strange people in the community, and it's a Gacha game. As a genshin player there is a lot of lore, so much and she skipped 5 regions and you get much more enjoyment when you lok at genshin as an mmorpg with a side element of gacha since spending money is not required for anything. It is more story based than gamble based and the game gives you many characters for free when you do events or meet level requirements.

If it was the exact same type of game, was as big but wasn't gacha at all it's general reputation would be very good. Like the only legitimate thing about it is that the storytelling wasn't good but now in 2023 it doesn't hold as much anymore cuz the storytelling is GOOD, the improvement is very noticable and it's like reading a visual novel with great story where u can use the characters in said visual novel.

    For anyone wanting an explanation about the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles and Why She Attacks With Cubes:
    It's a God Kiana thing, which is also used by Herrscher of the Void in _Honkai Impact 3rd_ .
    Mihoyo loves reusing their older designs, and especially with Kiana because she was the first character they created, way back for _Fly Me 2 The Moon_ where she was a jetpack-using magical girl. I haven't played _GunGirlZ_ , so I can't speak directly about God Kiana, however I am familiar with her as Herrscher of the Void. Herrschers have sovereignty over a conceptual force, and in the case of Void/Sky, the concept is 'space.' She can make portals and teleport pretty much anywhere by using an Imaginary Space as an intermediary. She can also use portals to redirect attacks, and just straight up attacks enemies by slamming them with cubes when she's not slicing or piercing them with her spatial lances. I think they're basically portals shaped like different things, although the most form is just cubes. As White Comet, Kiana can also summon giant mechanical cat paws to swipe at and slam enemies with, called _Neko Charm_ . And in part of one of the chapter-ending animated shorts (Meteoric Salvation), she summons a spatial lance in the shape of a baseball bat (legendary House Kaslana hereditary weapon, which Trailblazer also uses in _Honkai: Star Rail_ for some reason).
    So yeah, there's not a single player of _HI3_ that could have possibly missed the Sustainer being based on Herrscher of the Void, with even her attacks being very similar. Seeing what she did to her enemies in _Will of the Herrscher_ and _Final Lesson_ , it's easy to see how a person could be frightened by geometry.
    _HSR_ doesn't have a direct expy of Kiana just yet, but March 7th does have what we call 'Kiana Brain.' We're pretty sure March is an expy of Elysia though. It has to do with her using Ice and a bow, her colour palette, and her obsession with cute things, especially other cute girls.

    The thing about Genshin law is a lot of it is hidden and optional, so a lot of people don’t see much outside of the main story, which is admittedly, sometimes a bit lackluster in the beginning. However, they have really been kicking it up a notch lately with both character and story writing. Fontaine‘s story was fantastic.
    The lore is also incredibly dark as well if you really look into it . Aka: human experimentation, creatures born from the blood of a giant beast that are adorable, but slightly psychopathic, an entire civilization based on some really twisted psychology- basically horror game concepts hidden behind a mask of generic cutesy anime stuff.
    Not to mention the music . this game, I say has some of the best video game I’ve ever heard. The composer is phenomenal at storytelling through music.

    Sumeru lore- liloupar the genie hates her own children so much (because they are the product of her husbad who she hates most in the world) she makes her children marry each other, and when the brother grapes the sister because he wanted more genie children to enslave, the genie became very happy (yippee) because she just hates them that much. Regarding the lore, Stupendium made a lore song several months ago that is very good for the basic world structure although as they mention; “The Genshin dimension is pretty intense/ Filled with events too dense to mention.” While the topics explained in that song will become the focus at some point in the future or have been focus upon in readable materials [which there are hours worth of], the current regional stories are barely touched upon. It’s called a “Summary in Sumeru” and is worth checking out for the lore and the song just has a good beat and catchy rhyming schemes.
    (If not, you could at least pull up some of the staple Lore Theorist channels such as Ashikai, even if you don’t click anything look at the video titles and runtime, even the confirmed content reviews are over 20-30 minutes on average, saying nothing of the actual theories. I’d say this game has lore.)

    One of the main rules of Genshin lore - 90% children shall suffer. Suffering may include but not limited to:
    Becoming orphaned (the most constant one);
    Having a meeting with a "friendly" doctor who will inject God Juice into you and experiment on you;
    Becoming a false puppet-ruler of a nation until you reach teenagehood, at which point you will be burned alive at an artificial sun;
    Becoming a sacrifice for a bird (that is your friend) by your own tribesman, that includes being skinned alive and drained of blood;
    Becoming a child slave;
    After becoming orphaned, having to become a child-assassin for Russia (Snezhnaya)... You get point and i don't remember all of the other examples

      I believe because it implies that women are specifically for romantic/sexual interest only even in a fictional capacity, essentially it objectifies women. The main quests surround the regions and their god, and every one of them is better than the last. Starting Genshin can feel disappointing since the first quest is mostly a tutorial, but I highly recommend exploring beyond that and experiencing the rest of the game (Fontaine, Sumeru and Inazuma are all gorgeous and filled with lore and adventure). Nothing against the first two regions, but I see people get bored when they first try it because they don't look beyond the tutorial part. Either way, I highly recommend watching some version trailers or character teasers to get an idea of everything the game has to offer! I love seeing your reactions and the trailers might show you the beauty of this game beyond the anime waifus and husbandos.

    There's a lot of story, and it takes some time to ramp up and find its rhythm. But then, so did their other games. Hopefully _HSR_ is a bit faster, but in the meantime, we're halfway through _Genshin_ 's Teyvat Chapter now. That's four full regions plus Dragonspine, Enkanomiya, and the Chasm. The map is massive, and there's lore even in the items. Yet players still get angry at Mihoyo when they speedrun the story and run out of stuff to do days after a fresh update.
    _Genshin_ 's strength is definitely its exploration. The combat is super-casual and easy, and you can clear with any team, or no team at all, just Traveler if you're insane like Moosashi.
    _GunGirlZ_ is a sidescrolling actioner that goes crazy with Mihoyo's cosmology. It's the game that introduces the Imaginary Tree and the bubble worlds, I think, as well as explaining where that all came from (it's... it grew from Zeus's corpse. The game has characters so powerful you hope they stay asleep and don't roll over weird so they don't destroy half the Tree and the worlds growing on it).
    _Honkai Impact 3rd_ is Mihoyo's first 3D game, an actioner like _GGZ_ that goes crazy with the story, and explores bubble worlds more. If you like your combat like in _Bayonetta_ and _DMC_ , and you like your story like _Evangelion_ , you'll like this one. It is more optimistic than _GGZ_ , though, both still get regular updates. The combat's pretty wild and flashy, so if you can't deal with flashing lights, probably best to avoid this one. Sorry, Mel.
    _Tears of Themis_ is a visual novel-styled police procedural with lots of hot guys. Someone who's played it can tell you more about it.
    _Honkai: Star Rail_ is the hot new turn-based adventure game with a train that goes through space.
    And of course, _Zenless Zone Zero_ is the stylish rogelike adventure came currently in its second CBT phase, and it'll likely be released within a year if things go as well as they did with _HSR_ .
    Mihoyo slow down? Un-&^%$ing-likely. Not until they're dominating every genre gaming has to offer. I wonder what their asymmetrical survival game'll look like. Anime-style, no doubt. Everything else is.

    I’ll give a brief synopsis of the last two regions so people can realize how dry Jaiden made Fontaine look.
    Sumeru is the land of wisdom. The land lost its god in the cataclysm that happened 500 years ago. When the regions gods die, a new one is born/ascends to take its place. Sumeru refuses to acknowledge the new god, and is actively trying to destroy anything that doesn’t have academic pursuits while they claim that worshipping the new god is a desecration to the old god.
    Fontaine is the land of justice, but the land has been condemned by the highest deity in existence, due to the actions of the previous god of Fontaine. The condemning is what is told by Lynette in the video, minus the god weeping “forever”. The current god should be trying to stop the disaster, but it doesn’t appear that she is…

    Well as far as story goes, Genshin has more of it than Bethesda's last three games combined. Some of the earlier quest have some writing that suffers from pacing issues but is over all fairly good. As for in game background lore, there is an insane amount. Much like Dark Souls there are whole YT channels dedicated to lore and lore theories.
    While the moment to moment writing can sometimes suffer from trying to make it digestible to a broad audience (dumbed down) it has been improving in consistency since the tail end of Inazuma (almost two years ago).
    As for the gambling, it is 100% optional. The game gives you a fair amount of free characters (all of whom are at least decent with a few that are very good). You also get a solid amount of the gambling currency from playing. The game doesn't have a lot of challenging content and what challenging content it does have is not tied to the story. Even that can be cleared without spending a dime though.
    Basically Genshin isn't pay to win. It is however pay to simp.

Three years later and I still think it has one of the best combat systems of any video game. That said I do think they could do so much more with it but they insist on making everything either 'baby's first action rpg' or a timed dps check. The 'Local Legends' they added in Fontaine was a great addition though. I hope we get more of that sort of thing.
