    Memo is easily my favorite house, for whatever reason the way they construct their fragrances simply gels perfectly for my nose. From the Leather like I love: Moroccan, African, Sicilian, and Russian.
    However my favorite from the house is Eau de Memo, I have yet to sample any fragrance that just embodies the words ''beautiful and pleasant'' quite like that one. I can smell it all day long and not get tired.
    Finally I don't necessarily think African Leather is presented wrongly by the broader internet community, I just think your particular taste is much more used to very niche fragrances that makes African Leather be pedestrian by comparison. Within Memo's competition so to speak, Xerjoff, Initio, PdM, Nishane, Tom Ford -- African Leather is a more daring scent I feel.

      Yes, obviously there is a ton of subjectivity in these reviews but I still don’t think AL is well advertised on social media. The same people who are saying that this is crazy strong and manly have been touching on other actually strong fragrances. I think they didn’t spend enough time on the fragrance to understand how delicate and elegant this actually is.

    I discovered your channel just this week. I love the lowkey, but fully descriptive way that you present high-end fragrances. I love wonderful scents of any kind, and my fragrance collection is growing, but definitely sub-$200. This means that most of what you present is outside of my budget for now. Please, keep your content high-end though. Fragrance is intended to evoke fantasy. There are so many reviewers with a tower of bottles in the background of their sets talking about easy finds. Thankfully I missed all the hype on this and the brand in general. I had the opportunity to live with the entire range for about two weeks laid out on my kitchen table assessing them for my shop and I was able to pick six. The rest I found to be synthetic and Really cut copy paste in terms of aroma chemicals. The African leather was a real standout for me and I personally purchased the 200 mil bottle and it never fails to get compliments. The Iberian leather was also great but just a bit linear and I think the Sicilian leather is probably the best leather accord that they do. On my skin and To my nose African leather is a more complex elegant version of red tobacco which I really want to like but it’s just too sweet and thick. Your review of African leather is spot on and yes they are expensive but for me it is one of those must have in a collection.

    I love this one for its exotic spiciness. I don't really find it to have much leather in it, but I like the overall profile. My only complaint is that it doesn't seem to last very long on me, but that's not a deal breaker for me. I just decanted a travel spray to carry with me when I wear it on a long work day. Spot on review. And I've been waiting for this! I wore this all day for the first time in a long time yesterday, and when I decided on it in the morning, I was thinking, "where is that review that Daniel promised?"
    Agree with almost everything you said, and I love your analogy of a story being handed down and becoming ever more pleasant and romantic. That's a good one, and an accurate way to see Memo in general. If you're looking to be transported to Africa with this or Retba or Russia with Russian Leather, you will be quite disappointed. But as evocative starting points for lovely perfumes, it works.
    Where I disagree is that, to me, this isn't super versatile and would not be a signature scent (but then again, I have never and probably will never settle on a signature) and I don't find it relaxing. I was, in fact, really fatigued by it by the end of the day. Maybe that is partly because it is linear, but I find the scent profile to be "loud" even if it isn't beastly. I do still like it, but I would never want to smell it every day.
    As you say, it has really been a victim of bad hype on fragcom, which is a shame. I thought of that problem again today because I wore Encre Noire to do Saturday errands on a warm early autumn/late summer day, and it was perfect. But if you go on Fragrantica or YT, you will discover that it's a powerful, dark-as-ink freak of a creation that is best suited for funerals, zombies and the eve of the apocalypse! Meanwhile, it's an objectively pleasant vetiver-cypress-Iso E Super scent that can go anywhere. Just goes to prove that you should always trust your own nose!

    • @SeldomlyOften
      @SeldomlyOften  8 дней назад

      @@DaveNYC thanks for the long comment!
      Regarding the versatility, I’m obviously biased by the fact that I like incense and I find the ambery, spicy, dusty mood very relaxing. It reminds me of the days I spent in the desert photographing the dunes. Very meditative to me.
      All this, combined with the subtle elegance of Memo makes the scent very wearable to me.
      If these smells are distracting you you, like how bitter smoke or plastic is to me, then I agree, this can get fatiguing.
      Funny you speak of Encre Noir, I have a first impression video coming up soon 👍

    You should do a first impression of ruy lopez by mind games. It’s a fruity floral fragrance with a boozy, tea background. It has a woody backbone, but paired with the plum note it gives off an aged wine barrel feel to me. It also has a bit of bitterness with the tea and davana sprinkled in. I agree with you AL is well balanced, not overpowering and not a monster in projection.
