I love them both as well but for me Freddy will always be scarier because with Ghostface they are only human so you can run, drive, or even fly away from them. With Freddy, it didn’t matter where you go. You have to sleep eventually.
I saw both of these on opening day at the theatre. The nightmare on elm street audience was like being at a rock concert and was buzzing even when the movie was over.
@@p.taylor981 It does matter because without Nightmare, there would be no Scream “improvement”. Freddy will ALWAYS be the bigger horror icon, compared to Ghostface.
Actually if it wasn’t for New Nightmare there would be no Scream. Yes the fire was ignited by NoES first, but the “meta” aspect was solidified by New Nightmare
Ghost face for me because the scary part of him is that Ghostface could be anyone you know and you’d have no idea the innocent person you always interacted with was a psychopath. Freddy is a dream demon who says a joke every kill.
@@TheNuketendolike the 2nd. Love the third and fourth ANOES. This comment was supposed to be a cheeky comment about how I felt about the Scream franchise. Ended up in the wrong comment thread somehow. How embarrassing.
I think the biggest advantage that the Nightmare franchise has over Scream is that Freddy is not just a face, but also an iconic character. With all Scream movies being whodunnits, we never are given too much time to delve into the twisted minds of any of the killers. We may see these characters throughout the movies, but we only get a few minutes with their "killer sides". Ghostface's repertoire of scary phone calls and quirks like wiping the blood off the knife with the glove are all shared between multiple characters. Which makes sense, with the franchise being so meta, but at the end of the day, the killers are mysteries for the first 90 minutes or so of each movie. Freddy is only ever a mystery in the first movie, which was all about him anyway. From Part 2 onwards, we're already familiar with him and understand how dangerous and unhinged he is. That gave the filmmakers the opportunity to try out new things; just the fact that it's about dreams already opens up virtually infinite room for experimentation.
Scream for me. It's a film that still holds up to this day and I think because it could actually happen adds to it. Plus the twist of two killers is an all-time great. Plus it has so many little moments that you can rematch and catch on multiple viewings. Plus I think the characters and cast are leaps and bounds better.
I wish this was done as a franchise vs franchise format, there's so many different characters and plots to go over with both Scream and ANOES. Especially given that Scream has different killers every movie, it would be interesting to compare the different iterations of Ghostface against Freddy's changing personality. Though I love Nancy to death, her character essentially stays the same through the franchise. There's never a serious shift in her character, she's been strong and stubborn from the get-go and nothing changes through Parts 1, 3 or 7 if you count it. I think it's criminal that Alice Johnson from parts 4 and 5 is not given her due. To me, she's the only character in the franchise next to Freddy himself that exhibits any form of character development. For Freddy, it's merely a change to letting his sick mind go ballistic but for Alice it's a 180 degree shift from a quiet and meek girl to a badass by the series' standards. Plus, she's the only final girl to survive Freddy in multiple films. (Again, unless you count New Nightmare). Overall this was a great watch. I think Scream got a little more favor by way of it's entire franchise while ANOES was kind of left to the parameters of it's own film for most of the segments. Despite this, it was fun as always! ////
Today we're pitting the ultimate evil on earth; a child molester turned dream demon VS two kids in Halloween costumes! Nah, Elm Street won this before it started.
Nightmare for me is the best, simply because it was something new and inventive, Scream is a love letter to all the slashers that came before it, whilst Scream 1 was EXCELLENT, the sequels where basically a re write and of Scream and got very messy and predictable.
That was really good! I agree with you on most of it except for the sequels part. I would have given that to Scream. One they all got good reviews accept for 3 and the fact that the three main cast members came back for every one is amazing! However, I could never put the original scream over the original Nightmare even the though they are both great! Two of the best not just slasher but best horror movies ever!
Freddy’s Dead instantly catapults the Scream sequels to the top. That movie was purely awful. Nightmare 5 was meh and Nightmare 2 wasn’t very good either, despite slyly being an LGBTQ film way ahead of its time
@@danielprekopa7005 nightmare 2 had some good scenes and it had a good scary tone but, it was kind of all over the place with the plot. I liked Freddy's Dead better than most people. I liked the flashback scenes about Freddy's life. Nightmare 5 was the worst in the series, Super Freddy pretty much says it all!😝
I don’t feel like these are comparable. Yes they’re both horrors but one is centered in reality with high school boys as the killers vs supernatural killer.
I love Scream, but Nightmare Elm Street takes the cake❤️❤️❤️. I felt Scream had to reference “A Nightmare Elm Street” and other landmark slasher film to be relevant. If it wasn’t meta, it wouldn’t have stood out and be considered as a landmark film the 90s.
I like them both, Wes was a legend, but I think ANOES just edges it, so agree with the 6/5 results ... I would say the ANOES has Freddy, which is an actual villain ... Scream has ghost-face which is a Scooby type different villain for each movie, so in that way it kills it ...
I agree on every round but sequels because scream honestly has no bad movie when nightmare arguably has one of the worst sequels in all the franchises from the big 4 of nightmare, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and scream. So it think scream wins the sequel round. So in my book that would be a draw but I do agree nightmare n Freddy are the more iconic all around. For the sake of nightmare winning it works

Both good movies but screams opening scene alone wins it for me. Also drew wasn't recast because of a scheduling conflict. It was her idea and wes liked it
I agree with everything here except for the plot. The scream plot is way better than the Nightmare plot. Like, so much better. I think the main idea of the Freddy Krueger universe is more interesting and creative, due to the dream stuff, but I'd say the first Freddy movie's plot isn't nearly as exciting as Scream.
Both movie's are classic's nightmare on elm Street is the best horror movie of the 80's and Scream is the best horror movie of the 90's but if I had to pick it's Nightmare on elm Street
