Haha nice.

Kind if amazing how they were such a good band over such a short period and at such a young age.
Kinda reminds me of the Beatles: they were around for 7 years, from 1963 to 1970 - I know they got together in 1957 but the band as we know it didn't really exist until later - and they were very young but already knew so much of the world.
And they knew how to say it.
It really is rare.
@@NotLeda Yeah I was actually just thinking of the Beatles too. Very short period of time. If somebody were to not have a single clue about either band, and were introduced to many of their songs, the natural assumption would be that they were together a lot longer. Even knowing both bands didn't stay together long, I find my mind tricking me into thinking otherwise. It's very bizarre. I am sure a clever psychologist could tell us why that's the case.
THE SMITHS ARE STILL THE GREATEST ROCK BAND TO EMERGE FROM THE GENERATION X TIME PERIOD....PERIOD !!! !!!!
The Doors and Jimi Hendrix only had about 3 years if success.
But the Smiths didn’t really ‘rail against the establishment’ - virtually every song was essentially an introspective clever emotionally charged reflection upon life and love or lack thereof.
Well put I've been saying that for years.. A true smiths fan... Everyone at the time assumed the smiths had this left wing political stance...
Titling an album The Queen is Dead is pretty anti-establishment to be fair
@@MattJames1958 Absolutely Colin.
Nah they did
@@MattJames1958 I think they were just going with the popular punk movement at the time to sell more albums. I don't think they actually believed in left wing politics, clearly Morrissey didn't.
I think its best that they don't reunite. It just wouldn't be the same, or live up to the peoples' expectations. I do think that they all should put aside their differences and become friends again, but even that seems like a far cry.
No kidding. It would be me paying $1,000 for a concert ticket, to see some old men who only vaguely resemble the young band I fell in love with, in a performance fueled by forced enthusiasm. And that's if Morrissey didn't cancel the show last-minute the night before.
hahha Fair point
It would be a truly incredible reunion. All of them are still releasing incredible music, so why wouldn't they live up to expectation?
Would much prefer the original New Order line up to reunite TBH

If we have to agree with the political views of the artists we like, that is when we will surely all become dangerously divided.
We already are
Yeah I agree. I love the smiths and Mozz has a good voice, but I just can't agree with his politics, but Marr I could get on with decently I feel.

@@BBCmindcontrol nah mate it's cos I'm not a racist and I think the EU is something that makes us stronger as a country, and there's other things he's said I don't agree with
Sorry to point this out but morrisey left the smiths 32 years ago and he has done ok for himself since then, he doesn’t need Marr
I think it was Marr who didn’t want to continue.
Morrissey didn’t leave anything. Marr quit.
That’s not the point , we need them both and the audience was always the most important member of the band . Love always❤
They're never reuniting & Frankly, Mr. Shankly, I'm ok with that.
Morrissey has always been a staunch defender of British and English people, and their right to be what they are in their own country. This was a view that was considered normal back in the 80's and further back. Why only now has it become unfashionable to defend English civilization? Or English culture? The Smiths was inherently English and British, and also Irish. Why does Marr oppose the decision of the peoples of these islands to govern themselves, and decide for themselves who should be allowed in?
Nobody, including the EU, has denied UK citizens their 'right to be what they are' whatever that is/means? We've been a country that has embraced immigration for generations. Ironic that there couldn't have been a Smiths if it wasn't for immigration, with the whole band having Irish heritage. Manchester is a city that wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for immigration. We're a melting pot of a city with influences from across the globe and that's what made the city both the first city of 'free trade' in the past and the vibrant place it is today.
It's also a city that voted to remain in the EU. Many of us understand that racist, populist politicians blame immigration for the country's problems. When it's their own policies that have welcomed immigration in order to maintain low levels of pay rather than the immigrants themselves that have created the present situation. Manchester is a very different place to many other places in the UK and your views wouldn't be both recognised or welcomed there, because most of the population are one generation of immigrants or another. I've personally got both German/Jewish and Irish blood somewhere in my veins and I'm proud of that fact. Mono cultures are both rare and unhealthy, both culturally and genetically speaking.
*****
And we went to war with the Irish numerous times.
I've got German blood in my veins. To be honest, I couldn't give a toss. Means absolutely nothing to me.
urbanhym1 What a load of bollocks! History is the history of people invading other places and ultimately assimilating until there's no 'pure' people left. 'Purity' means inbreeding and halfwits like we see in the British aristocracy, where they are all related. Why are the Royal Family so unintelligent? Because they are all marry their cousins many times removed.
dirkbogarde44 Doesn't mean anything to me either, but it's still part of who I am and why I ended up here. These populist, racist idiots need a history lesson.
He seems like a decent bloke.
Yes, Farage is a decent bloke.
Hope Nigel Farage won't bring his foreign wife here to keep living on expenses, since he fooled many by using the immigration sound bite for the anti EU vote.
UKIP is mainly made up of Thatcherite ex Tories who think the EU is preventing the few at the top mistreating most British people, by making companies label genetically modified ingredients and allowing workers enough breaks. They wouldn't spend any money not sent to the EU on the NHS because they don't believe in the NHS. When Tories were last in power they lowered tax for the rich, while making life for the poor, unselfish or those happy to get by without being a slave for the few at the top lives as difficult as possible with constant VAT increases, bedroom tax without building smaller places for them to move etc.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
MJ H feeling apathetic?
One thing I've always loved about Johnny is the way he gets to the point and dosent hide behind loads of intellectual sounding dribble. In every interview I've ever seen him do from the last 35 years he always seens to have the sane opinions on life/ politics and never seems to give Morrissey too much of a gard time when asked about him. I know they had their differences within the band and the true reasons as to why the Smiths split are for them to know and not anyone else which I wholeheartedly respect along with Johnny's seemingly unwavering political views.
Who cares, Morrissey is spot on
Most working class people are pro Farase Johnny Marr is such a Pratt
@@JohnBoylan-r3t so true
morrissey is original and not just another leftie celeb
yankeydoodle101 so that makes it ok for him to support something that will cause the British economy to drop and make tons of workers go into dept
Morrissey is a complete knob LOL
Both Johnny and Morrisey are musically original, political views don't come into matter. It's not like Morrisey's reasons to support brexit are that original, there are probably loads of people out there with at least similar reasons to support brexit. I have hard critics against post-modernism but just being more on the left-wing isn't necessarily a reason to douche up on the person
Morrissey is right, national pride was part and parcel of life up until the turn of the century and suddenly it's become frowned upon, love the way sky News and most media portray Brexit and farrage as the worst thing ever
It’s racist too be proud of your nation for some reason
dani cali in what way
If Morrissey is so proud, why did he quit the UK in the 80s and move to LA?
@@_B.M_ Better weather
This has to be the most stupid title I ever read
sky news - say no more
Morrissey was the thinker of the band. Nothing has changed.
morrissey is right....simple as that, he is a very intelligent and thoughtful man
I missed their last ever concert. Few regrets but this is #1.
Morrisey isnt culturally enriched enough for sky news
So they use the same words like "culturally enriched"? That's exactly the bullshit they tell us here in Germany.
It would be interesting to hear his views on Corbyn now in 2018. This interview was at a time when the media attack was incessant and it looked impossible for Labour to get any votes unless Corbyn left. GE2017 proved that theory wrong.
Trust sky to drag politics into it ffs they hold no bounds. I love the smiths every time I listen to there songs it really brings some good memories back
Morrissey has dragged politics into it, not Sky.
Blame the media ... god forbid Johnny Marr be allowed to give his opinion as to what going on in his country
The Smiths could only happen once. And that's more than enough for me.
Rail against the establishment as long as the establishment is not on your side, right Johnny?
awakeintulsa he literally said there aren't any politicians he likes in the video, dorkus.
he should rail against establishments he likes now?
Hate to be technical, but that's what Moz is doing. ukip, now dead, is an "anti-establishment" group of aristocrats lol
UKIP anti-establishment? aye ok lol
I'm sure he isn't railing against anything when the royalty checks come. Lol. This is all just a bunch of pretentious, I'm above it all, nonsense.
it would be better now that they have different political views, the best art comes out of conflict
Morrissey was the shining star of the Smiths, but who here thinks Johnny has always been the "cooler" one?
Marr was always the key man in the band without him there would be no Smith's. I respect him hugely
I hope they get together soon and make a new album. They're both so talented and continue to make good music.
BayviewFinch that’s what I’m saying.
State of this bloke. Morrissey on the other hand is a genuinely brilliant individual.
Good for Morrisey, a man in touch with the people not left wing media
Marr is clearly a very talented guitarist and musician which i respect him for, but Morrissey was clearly the brains in the band, and i would imagine Morrissey is much more educated when it comes to politics.
I've gotta say i'm happy Morrissey can see sense and still isn't afraid to speak his mind and do that right thing.
Morrissey has never voted his words.
John Trollston Lyrically and the image of the band,I would say so, also Morrisseys solo career compared to Marrs.....enough said
I'm not confusing anything, mate.
***** Yep, I agree, nothing to dispute there and I would also like to see that.
Thanks for being civil unlike others in this thread haha
They might be liberal views now, not so much when the far left brought the topics to the streets in protest and to public attention.
The Smith helped me through the 80, what a beautiful band
I don't care how good Marr can play guitar, he'll never be Morrissey. Pathetic Johnny Marr! The Smith's were what they were, due only to Stephen Patrick Morrissey.
Well said... He is a good guitar player.. But without morrisey his music is just middle of the road crap... The best stuff he's done by himself are old smiths songs
Johnny Marr wrote and arranged every note of every Smiths song and is one of the finest guitarists Britain has ever produced.
Morrissey is just speaking his mind, being honest. More than I can say for Marr, a guy who’s not even honest about the colour of his hair.
Yeah that's right open borders cheap labour really helps the indigenous poor .
MrTom1379 so true yet the left have deserted the working class in this country...UKIP is all they have now.
Outsourcing hurts more. So does deindustrialisation, what the toffs want is for the poor to hate each other
René Moncayo no it really doesn't I'm a builder I've seen a whole generation of lads get turnt away and lose jobs for cheaper foreign labour
Then the problem are the employers not people wanting to improve their lot.
liam Royce it also implies that the current market demands mobility of the work force.
Take everything Mozza says to the media with a large pinch of salt.
tell that to the silly eejits lapping it up
" I would leave the EU , but I haven't got a deal to wear "
Well that's aged well...
Aged like milk
They were great when they needed to be just at the right time and that's all that matters!
Morrissey has always been an intellectual, still is
unlike marr
Johnny Marr was the smiths
grew up listening to the Smiths now my son loves them as well
@dani cali he may change his mind
Too bad politics break up friendships
The record shows that Thatcher never cut public expenditure.
Morrissey's clearly more insightful than Marr - who apparently still has the political faculties of a 20 year old student.
his biggest insight is that he doesn't like any politicians right now, not a one.
Where as morrisey has those of an 1930s gereman aristocrat
I stand with Morrissey. I'd prefer to fight for my own people, their values and traditions and their right to an independent existence even if it means being attacked, deprived of a livelihod and maybe going down to defeat and obivion in flames condemned as a monster by all subsequent history books. All this is preferable to me than bowing the knee to enemies without and traitors, cowards and degenerates within.
Johnny Marr is Paul, Morrissey is John, George & Richie...
Who is Richie?

Tony Montana played with the Smiths? Who Knew...
Lovely to see Johnny retaining some semblance of perspective and connection with his working class background. Who'd have thought that the man who broke up The Smiths would end up being their vanguard?
Worth 14 million..wonder how much he gives the working class he so calls cares about..lol
@@daviddeidawhat drivel. Just because one has money that one has earned doesn’t mean they turn into racist right wing nut jobs. He left that for Morrissey to become
How is he their "vanguard"?
The difference between Morrissey and Marr is Morrissey is authentic and says whatever he's thinking. He can't be placed in a box or labeled one way or another. Morrissey doesn't "tow the line". Marr is a phony. He just says what he thinks is the "appropriate" thing to say while secretly he feels another way. Ever notice how people who claim to love diversity don't live in neighborhoods that are diverse? Complete phonies. That's why Morrissey is still relevant 40 years later and Marr has faded into obscurity. Morrissey connects with people and is a breathe of fresh air. He's not manufactured and nobody tells him what to do, what to say or how to act.
I would seek Marr's advice on guitar riffs, but nothing more.
but he never mentioned brexit, the interviewer did but he reacted to Nigel farage. He's from salford and no doubt has working class family there, in fact i'd bet he has family that wanted brexit. Sky trying to make him say the words
Think its Wythenshaw
I voted remain and voted Tory and love the Smiths. Music trancends stupid labels ❤️
I'm with Morrissey on this one. Who knew he'd be the sensible one?
1:02 -- The English band of the 80's that was against the establishment was The Housemartins.
It's sad to peak at 23 years of age.
Morrissey, maybe. Marr's solo albums are the best he's ever recorded in his career.
I wouldn’t say so when he achieved far more by that age than most do in a lifetime.
So Marr is just a socialist NPC who was once a great guitarist. Yawn. Morrissey is still great.
Love Jhonny Marr, from beggining to end consistent. Very humble (and one of the best guitar players ever walked on earth). So sorry Morrissey can´t let the past go and reunite sometimes...the Smiths are so amazing. Our culture is dead. We need those people.
So scared to show intelligence, it might smear their lovely career.
Was this entire report simply to five a further wedge into the smiths? personally I hope they never do reform because they'll be no one left after that! I like to think that if Joe Strummer hadn't died they still wouldn't have got back together and obviously the jam would be the only other concern.
Morrissey still in touch with his own, more then a singer/songwriter to so many of us
What happened to his chin? His neck is like a old ladies! Judging by his views, no bollocks either
I bet his farage outlooks changed in the last 7 years
Marr loved the BIRDS and mimicked a lot of rifts. Morrissey, well a lyrical genius, amazing ability to write songs in a poetical way. Such enjoyable music.

This didn't age well
Trust the art, not the artist.
Haha best advice
the smiths from young till old hold, a special place in my mind then heart! they don't need each other it's over! I really wish people would stop talking period. ....
Marrs an amazing musician, one of the greatest I'd say, but Morrisseys a genious and a truly original thinker.
Anyone? what HALF the country?
Morrissey is correct
Bit of clickbait, no? Johnny didn't "rule out" a Smiths reunion, and his comments on Moz' politics were actually rather mild.
I like Morrissey even more now
Morrissey's mind is always his own. No luvvie he.
He lifted his best lines from Shelagh Delaney, ffs. Dearie, dearie me.
imposs1904 that was a very weak and untrue rebuttal
'A taste of honey' nearly every second line in that film is a line Morrissey used somewhere along the line with the early Smiths stuff , 'The dream is gone but the baby is real' etc etc clever lad I say
Well i don't think I'll be losing any sleep about what Marr or Sky thinks anytime soon.
Johnny Marr will say whatever it takes to avoid upsetting people. After reading his book (which was so poor that I returned it to Tesco after reading) and reading Morrissey's book (which was a masterpiece that I frequently re read), that is the conclusion that I came to. Morrissey is a man of substance whereas I have a the nagging suspicion that Marr is a snake and a suck up.
He is a snake 🐍 that is whyI love and respect Morrissey even more.
It's getting incredibly old enough - please
The only time anyone pays him attention is when he’s talking about Morrissey.
His dyed hair looks daft but he's a great guitarist

Three guesses who that smile down the barrel at the end was for.
Idolised Marr since my youth. Dont agree with his view on brexit. Agree with Morrissey on that one.
And I agree with Marr and disappointed with Morrisey
Morrissey is pro Nigel because he values British culture and the country. Brexit has nothing to do with not liking people from another country, but liking British culture, culture that made us who we are and wanting to preserve it. I’ve travelled all over the world and practically every country has a people proud of their own country and culture, and so they should. I love the diverse world we live in and different cultures.
Well said! 💯
So proud he is that he's lived in LA since the late 80s
So why doesn't he live in Britain so? Both his parents were Irish emigrants.
i’m not very familiar with UK politics, so could someone please explain to me why would Marr disapprove of Corbyn?
Corbyn was too far left for traditional working class voters. Corbyn was always a dangerous agitator, same for McDonnell his right hand man.
Cause he's a woke suck up
Morrissey always against the establishment they changed not him
Most of us grow out of our naive Lefty views by the time we hit our 30's. Poor old Johnny still seems to be stuck in that timewarp. So sad.
The Marxist teacher's brainwashing at schools & uni's are to blame.
i think that johnny marr just said what the journalist wanted to hear, he didn't seem very sure of what he was saying.
The smiths never liked each over anyway
Out of touch but I still like his music
Morrissey is right about Islam but wrong about Farage. Whatever - nothing will stop me from loving the Smiths.
I was introduced to this music by youtube recommendations, I am from the Dominican republic, and I can hear the power in the music. Takes my mood to another place.
What I don't understand is if it were the case that Morrissey was so nationalistic & a Brexiteer, it is an irony that his "I'm so depressed" whiny behind is living, or lived for a time in L.A., lol... Love the contradiction.
Maybe he saw the shithole globalism created in LA and thought. Maybe thats not a great idea....
Click bait title
I don know why everyone is expected to have a "view" on every divisive issue.
Johnny Marr cannot see, morrissey sees all
