My bigest takeaway from this fanfic was the fact, that Sirius have never got time to rest from the war. He had known he was going to engage in it in his fifth year, then he fought after graduating for 2, 3 years?, went to Azkaban for 12 fucking years and when he finally escaped, the second war started. It's just tragic.
At first, I wasn't pretty sure if I liked Remus' new storyline; however, as I kept reading, it trapped me and I finished loving the way he evolved. How he started as a grumpy, punk, and explosive bad-boy to the sarcastic, nerdy, jumper and chocolate lover man that we all love.
Dude the fact he had a little punk phase is still sending me when he showed up to the train dressed in his black boots like that right there was when Sirius and I first developed a crush. I wish with all my heart that this was the series that was published and not HP because this is the series I will reread forever. I'm just gonna read it to my kids someday and tell them this was canon and Harry Potter is a fanfic of James and Lily's kid
nahh one of my favourite things about atyd is remus’s bad boy persona. I think it makes sense with his canon characterisation as we often see moments of pretty intense anger and recklessness in him (like when he immediately wanted to kill peter). I do see how it’s quite a large character arc but I think it’s definitely realistic seeing as at the beginning of atyd he’s only 11 - there’s a lot of time for character growth by the time he appears in poa. Also all the trauma would have changed him and aged him a lot (in a way his big change in character really shows how much he’s been through). I think most fanfics (apart from atyd) have exaggerated this quiet, shy, bookworm persona of Remus which is why the atyd badboy one seems a little out of the blue, when really, compared to the Remus in the hp series, it’s not tooo unrealistic. Also I love the fact he’s from a care home because it makes the marauders found family SO much more special. And I definitely can see how Remus would have been punk and grungey , it was 70s UK, most teens would have been like that especially in the area he grew up in.
ohhh thats a good point about peter i do love the character arc i think it is just that it's so different from the shy bookworm persona I associated with him that it threw me. but ugh punnk remu is my everythinggg
@@amelianotthepilot but is he really that different? If you look at his character in atyd from a distance, he still is real quiet, shy and sticks to his books. It's just that in his head there is a reason for it. And the characters outside of 'the marauders circle' seemed oblivious to the amount of mischief Remus was responsible of. And you know, in the end, he really becomes the professor Remus Lupin, because he is the smartest one of the group. I rewatched some scenes from the prisoner of azkaban and when you look at Remus' eyes, you can see what he has gone through.
I everything except Remus's backstory because his mother was such a humble women and never gave up on him and his father died when he was almost 20 or 21.....I don't like the fact of portraying his parents as not that good they were really supportive and kind....I love everything except this and by everything I mean everything I just don't like the backstory created for Remus😣😣
Mary Macdonald is also a real canon character! In book seven during snape’s memories, Lily mentions her a couple times as a muggle born in gryfindor who snape and mulciber bullied :o
oh my god! I adored to see her perspective on the magic world so much! It's so interesting to see after rows and rows of characters the wizarding world has wronged, killed and cast out, how she is the first one to outright reject it, I was so fascinated!!
not me responding 8 months later also during harry's process in order of the phoenix she is there at the ministry and says "you..." to harry bc he reminds her of james
this is actually the only fanfic i've ever read but i hope someone else sees this comment and gives us a rec a friend recommended the Listeneise series on ao3 which is like a seggsy wolfstar music fic but i haven't read it so i dunno how it is
Remus joined a ‘skinhead’ gang. These were a massive part of the working class culture in the 80s-90s, so I think it makes complete sense for him to join. He’s angry. He’s hormonal, and the culture gives him a sense of community and family in a sense
I like to think that Peter was put in Gryffindor after he stalled because houses aren’t necessarily about who you are but also what you value. I think a young Peter Pettigrew valued bravery and obviously looked up to James, Sirius, and Remus, and so because of that value, he was placed in Gryffindor despite having very few of the qualities of a classic Gryffindor.
Honestly, I knew I couldn't take all of that mentally, so for my own best I decided to stop reading once they graduate. After that I just skipped through and read a few passages, to at least somewhat know what happens next (we'll, I of course know the hp saga and everything coming with it, but still...) And I honestly think this decision was the best choice I could have made. So, be careful, if you know it'll hurt you maybe stop beforehand.
ronks theory: i always thought that tonks offered to carry sirius and remus baby, but when sirius died remus wasn’t sure if he still wanted to continue on with it. but tonks convinced him to do it and before they do it remus and tonks get married to hide the fact they both gay. 🤪
I LOVE THAT THEORY i looove it, thank you, cuz till now it didnt made sense to me the whole remus x tonks thing, but, even tho is only a theory, i will take this as canon, tysm.
A lot of ppl don’t like how toxic wolf star is in this fic but tbh it’s probably exactly how they would be in a relationship. The nearly self loathing level headed Remus dating the loud and outgoing Sirius black is bound to have some intense arguments where they say hurtful things. In POA, within two minutes of Remus and Sirius seeing each other after being separated for 12 years, they start bickering. It’s not unhealthy, it’s what makes wolf star so special. They both enjoy the arguing cuz it keeps their relationship exciting. Of Course they both love each other but neither one is too into big romantic gestures, the fights are also foreplay for them. I think that the fights are perfect for the characters and we’re some of my favourite parts of the story
i think bickering is fine and healthy and their type of romance but the fact that they dont trust eachother is where the red flags are for me. their lack of trust eventually leads to their tragic ending with james and lily murdered and sirius in jail and remus alone
@@amelianotthepilot Exactly I think this story does a good job of showing how two people can love each other so much but also be terrible at communicating, and hurt each other a lot because of it. They spend half the book avoiding each other because of hurt feelings. So when the big terrible thing happens - it's actually believable.
And don't forget the sirius perspective, it really hurts, the Relationship of the black brothers is a crazy thing, and his perspective show the other side of the facts like the years in askaban absolutely alone 😭😭 someone talk about this pelase
remus’ backstory in atyd, while diverging from canon and his overall “nice guy” vibe, i think it suits him more. jkr (derogatory) often had problems with not fully developing characters before presenting them in the story. she ended up adding new details later on that did not correlate well with the original character. i’d argue that mskingbean89 really sat with these characters and explored them thoroughly before beginning the story. this made EVERY character have a pretty seamless character arch; which i’d argue didn’t happen to the same degree in the harry potter series. that can also be seen in the movies and how there are some pretty major plot holes. either way LOVE ATYD - STAN FOR LIFE
LITERALLY THE BEST MARAUDERS ERA FAN FIC EVER. I LOVE IT MORE THAN THE ACTUAL HARRY POTTER BOOKS. AND I WAS LITERALLY NOT OKAY FOR WEEKS AFTER READING IT. I WOULD BURST INTO CRYING IF I WOULD SEE A POST OR A QUOTE FROM THAT BOOK. I'M RE READING IT AGAIN, HOPING IT WOULD HURT LESS BUT STILL LIKE IT TOOK ME A REALLY LONG TIME TO GET OVER IT BUT I'M STILL NOT FULLY RECOVERED I STILL GET EMOTIONAL ON THE MENTION OF THESE CHARACTERS.
Actually, James and Lily could've stayed in the Potter manor, because the Fidelius charm consists of hiding the location of a certain place, practically making it invisible (unplottable). Even if you have gone there countless times, you couldn't possibly find it because if you are not the secret keeper, you CANNOT SEE IT. Remember how Grimmauld Place showed up only to those who were part of the F charm. So, James and Lily could have avoided going to Godric's Hollow. And yes, that question has also haunted me since I read ATYD. Because in the Harry Potter books it is made to believe that the Lily's and James' house was the one in Godric's Hollow, and Harry does not inherit it since it was destroyed, but in ATYD the Potter manor remained alone AND WHAT WAS OF IT? I guess we'll never know
right?! like theres no way harry potter with his bank full of galleons doesnt have a mansion to inherit like i know they lived in godrics hollow but like where is the potter mansion
YOU NEED TO READ ALL THE YOUNG DUDES FROM SIRIUS'S PERSPECTIVE its not over yet but its so so so good its not written by mskingbean89, its basicly like a copy paste of ATYD but the author changes the perspective... idk how to explain it but trust me its well done, its amazing, and awfuly painful cuz its SIRIUS pov, and we get to see more about his relationship with regulus, and his horrible parents, and his thoughts about remus....(i honestly need help, my heart hasnt stop aching since i started ATYD and now i think this has become an obssesion T-T) anyways, the fic its also in Ao3, its called "All the Young Dudes - Sirius's Perspective" by Rollercoasterwords. read it if you dare.
i was PISSED that a) they mentioned regulus' death with just an article on the newspapers????? like excuse me????? and b) i WANT and NEED to know how remus deals with sirius' death. like excuse me mskingbean89 but you can't just leave me with remus and sirius rekindling their relationship nah-ah i need to know what happens NEXT
I’m on year six and I’m afraid to read on, even though I’m getting insomnia from how much I’m reading it. I haven’t slept in three days . I DON’T WANT TO READ ON HELP IM LOSING MY FREAKING MIND
@@amelianotthepilot Right now I’m at the end of seventh year and at this point I’m trying to finish it as soon as possible since it’s really starting to have an impact on my mental health and sleep schedule I want it to last forever so I’m siriusly considering stopping rn and reading first year all over again
@@miamarin297 yea thats how i felt lol i think i read 7th year and the war years all in one day so that i could just get it over with and stop suffering but here we are month later and im still thinking about remus j lupin every goddamn minute of every day
@@amelianotthepilot same, I finished seventh year and now I’m at the “war days” but I’m also doing kinda bad in school rn so I might have to take a short break (wile still crying over my comfort characters death ofc)
ahh oh no! school comes first, hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home after you pass your classes~ i hope school gets better i know it’s probably really rough right now with virtual classes and what not. good luck~
If anyone is interested to know how I looked reading the series I will send them this video. A part of my soul died after reading the fic. After I read the actual series I was like hey gimme more marauders content then I saw the edits of atyd stuff on Instagram and I decided that I wanted to read it (Let's face it Marauders era is superior). I tell you I have a hard time crying and this made me cry. I cried after reading every war chapter(which in hindsight was prolly a lot). The thing I personally seem to love was the very existence of Grant Chapman (Grant Chapman supremacists wya?). The crazy thing is I am a hardcore wolfstar shipper and If I can get wolfstar to be canon in exchange for my soul I would do it but Grant Chapman is literally the ultimate fucking sweetheart and I personally never even had one (1) hateful thought towards him. I feel like MsKingBean89 has written him so well... I speak for myself and I hope everyone else when I say you summed up most of our thoughts pretty well and I loved the video.
I feel this sm. I love wolfstar, to the point I can’t even think of remus or sirius as attractive bc they only belong to each other, but grant is my sweet baby and I would kill for him.
I am so so glad I’m not the only one who was destroyed by this book. I felt ridiculous about how sad I was, but at least I’m not the only one. I read some happy au stories and that helped, and am now rereading ATYD but am going to *stop* before the war really gets bad
I finished reading this fan fiction in one week and it was amazing, I was insanely happy to see Remus and Sirius together, I especially liked the moment where they took the bed out of the lake at the end of the 7th year of study. The next day I cried for 4 hours on the phone with my girlfriend. It was hard. Now I hate Bellatrix even more, because I was imbued with Sirius
also . . . shout out to the audiobook version posted to youtube by fluer's uploads--I'll link it here if I can . . . is AMAZING!!!!!!!! I am absolutely in love with the voices, especially how she voices Reums--she brings soooooooooo much to the Remus character way beyond what is printed on the page, just how she voices him, especially in the middle and later years. Highly recommend listening if you can. Point of order, looks like a lot of the classic rock & roll song lyrics from the original fanfiction work have been censored out of the audiobook version, assumedly because youtube wouldn't allow it for copyright reasons, so that is sad, but still worth it. ruclips.net/video/y27XEwCYK4U/видео.html
Have you read/listened to the Bootleg or Christmas tapes. The Christmas tapes include more of the Peter backstory, plus some really wholesome other bits. There is also another one called 'out of the blue' it's about Grant meeting Teddy.
yea! i read bootleg tapes and out of the blue i didn’t read the christmas ones those cause i thought it was just copies of all the christmases they spent together. i’ll check it out!
the death that hit me the most is the McKinnon family 😭😭😭😭😭😭 the way they were laid out- marlene and yaz almost holding hands like remus and tonks in the books + movie oh my facking gawd and danny omfggg
I always assumed that the death eaters burned down potter mansion Like either when they were searching for the potters or after voldys death when they went insane (like torturing the longbottoms)
@@amelianotthepilot It’s a fanfic told through letters and “photographs” along with traditional writing. I think it was left incomplete but the place where it ended was a good place to stop (if you want to read it, google “Shoebox Project Harry Potter.” It should be the first link that pops up!❤️)
@@iristadie3088 unfortunately, it’s not on AO3 or wattpad (it’s a pdf, so I think that’s why!) The website that I read it off is the first search result when you google “the shoebox project harry potter”
It's just so good. It's the longest book i've ever read and I love it so much. It's definitely gotten on my reread list. So sad in so many places, and so beautiful too. From the first chapter to the very last.
Just like the grimaulds place, the godric hollow house was james' own house. even if you know the location of a house, as long as you're not the secret keeper or the secret keeper haven't shown you the house himself, you can't see the house even if you're standing right infront of it. the reason why i think godric's hollow house was their own house was because potters were friends with bathilda bagshot and if they were truly hiding their they wouldn't be making friends with the neighbors.
I just finished reading atyd and I can not do anything without thinking about this story. I'm not sure if anyone is going to read this, but i need to sort my thoughts and I don't know anyone who I could talk to about this. It is the best fanfiction I have ever read (tbh I haven't read that many) and I might even say It is better than most actual books. I haven't felt and cried this much in a long time. It filled a place in my heart that i didn't know was empty and i'll forever be greatful. To me, atyd is cannon and everythin JKR writes is like fanfiction level to me.The only thing that I'm a bit unhappy with is the ending. I do get why MsKingBean89 decided to end it that way, but I am very curious on Remus' realtionship with Tonks. I just can't see him with anyone else after Sirius' death, tho I'm glad he found some happyness again, he deserves it. I keep wanting to cry when I think about all of their tragic lifes, I love the marauders so much and I wish they had had more happy time.
@@amelianotthepilotyess, i think I saw a comment here that said they believe Tonks was supposed to carry Remus' and Sirius' baby and that's so perfect. It's also kinda comforting to know that Teddy is also related to Sirius and the black family, this way something of James lives on in Harry and something of Remus and Sirius lives on through Teddy :)
@@amelianotthepilot The webseries is still in VERY early development stages but it will be posted on youtube (they have a chanel, instagram and tiktok) and the podfic is being recorded at the moment by 188 people from around the world (one for each chapter) and song covers, the songs will be posted on spotify and I'm not sure about the podfic yet
Just finished reading atyd like 2 hrs ago and just damn it took me so long to gather all of my emotional energy to continue reading after their Cornwall vacation
i just finished atyd couple hours ago. Before i finished it i told myself "i will not cry at the end, i will not cry at the end" chapter 186-188 : Hi!!
I read atyd in four days. After having never consumed any marauders content before. I haven’t even finished the seven harry potter books. I then went through and found all the songs and made a playlist cause I couldn’t find one that was all the songs. The emotional pain of those last ten chapters has not left me yet.
Definitely my favourite fanfic is "A Very Thin Line" by LavenderBrown. It is however 18+ for sexual themes and content. It's also a Marauders era story but only encapsulates their seventh year from Lily and James' points of view.
I just wanted to say that from what I understood Potter manor and the place in Godric's Hollow where James and Lily died are two different houses that belong to the same family, like a summer house which I believe is called Potter cottage. And as regards the spell of the secret keeper it's like the first time the order takes harry to Grimmauld place, at the beginning he doesn't see anything but then with the invitation of the secret keeper he could see it. even if voldemort knew where the potters used to live he could not see the house nor enter.
Just finished reading this myself and honestly I loved it so much! I'm not a big wolfstar fan myself but I still really really enjoyed it. Never read a fanfic before but I was hooked instantly on this
i finished it a few hours ago and the pages are drenched with my tears because i cried for a good 30 minutes at least. also the epilogue? THE SADDEST MOST BEAUTIFUL THING IVE EVER READ
I read it over less than two weeks at the beginning of June and oh boy it was Two very painful weeks. I remember very vividly crying in my bed at 2 am because of those last chapters. I very rarely cry but those tears lasted a good hour. And it also took me more than a month to get over all this pain because those characters were so incredible and loving and funny and smart and they never got to grow old together. All they knew was war and death when they should have been thinking about the future (well, I guess I'm still not completely over it...)
Also, I LOVED the arc about the werewolves and what it implies, with the effect on Remus' magic and the pain of the transformations and the complexity of a pack. This was some brilliant writing here
Im just starting it rn but i cant with how mean is sirius and regulus, and also james doesnt feel like james(??) PLEASE tell me that it gets better cuz i need to keep reading marauders content and ive heard that this is like THE marauders fanfic (besides ATYD of course), plus, it not over yet?? and that also worries me cuz the last update was like 7 moths ago, do you know if the author is gonna keep updating? (sorry for so many questionsss T-T )
yk i don't really think there's a jump from peter being their bff to being the one who sells james and lily to voldemort. i think that EXACTLY because he was kinda left out (i mean TO ME it doesn't really sound like they involved him much or talked to him that much for that matter - if that makes sense) he then ends up selling james and lily to voldemort. who knows maybe be he did feel abandoned, left out so he kinda sought his revenge???
tru i guess just as a gryffindor i can never imagine the possibility of selling out my friends no matter how distant a friend they are ughhh pete honestly doesnt belong in any house lol
@@amelianotthepilot i actually feel that Peter is just influenced by people who surround him. If he was put in slytherin, he would automatically make bad choices. I feel that in gryffindor were people who were always there for him. And later in the story, everyone tried to hold their shit together and they obviously thought that Peter can be left alone. Well, he couldn’t. So I also don’t think there was a jump from bff peter do a deatheater peter. Btw, I loved this video. I finally saw someone talking about atyd for longer than 1 minute on tiktok lol
To be honest they were loseing too. Like the whole point untill the death of the Potters it looks like voldy had or was just about to win. So here is Petter a scared man that never really felt he belongs to either side. Stuck in a possition he only really got for his family connections one that had been treated horribly by both sides. Then this opertunity arises finally he can by a few words rise to the status his family never had a kindling of like true power. (or at the very least a high easy paying job) And the potters? Well they had misstreated him always made him secound fidle neglected him, never kicked him out but never toke him like a real friend...plus they are to stubborn to steadfast to idealistic that will kill them in the new order... So they are already dead... Now I think there is a train of thought here ofc it is horrible but it was a horrible situation that they all were in and the pettigrews kind of by the nature of the situation they were in had to make a bold move to ger something out of this horrible war (ironicly)...
I've finished reading it for a week now and this is soooooo good (still hadn't recovered) and you can't convince me that what happens in ATYD is not what did happen I mean I don't care what Rowling says ATYD are facts
just no. It’s a good storyline, but it certainly isn’t canon compliant. ATYD changed a LOT of things, like Remus being raised in an orphanage, a lot of the characters and their relationships. Let’s not even get into the Snape character assassination. It’s canon divergence at, best but honestly it should be categorized as an AU. Just because it gets the same ending as the source material doesn’t mean is it’s canon
honestly i love grant so much but i was so focused on talking about how it fits into cannon i totally didn't even think to talk about him! ill just have to make another vid dedicated to my love
Honestly that is so true. No matter what, peter doesn't deserve any redemption. He has done the worst of the worst. And I also felt that remus was redeemed because of what came with tonk's pregnancy.
You should read the Christmas Compilation, the Bootleg Tapes and the 'Out of the Blue' story. They give a lot of backround to the other characters. Also, Fleamont and Euphemia is canon it's in she who shall not be named's archive on wizarding world :)
couple comments: 1--the 13-year gap between Remus and Tonks is not that weird when you consider the long length of wizard lives. If wizard lives are twice as long as we are used to, then a gap between life partners of 13 years isn't that much. Plus, such an age gap would be relatively more common/understood/accepted since things like arranged marriages are still somewhat common in that world. 2--If you haven't already, you must must must must must read (or reread or reread again) The Debt of Time by ShayaLonnie. It covers quite a bit of the same material and works through quite a bit of some of the same knotty problems and questions as All The Young Dudes. 3--I'm at that point right at the beginning of the war years, and I've come to terms with the fact that the rest of the book is going to be anguish to read, so thanks for the tip-off . . . I'm going to put the book down as it's a Monday morning for me and I need to have my wits about me for the work week . . . I'll save the rest of the book for next weekend when I have the margin to deal with the emotions I know are coming. So thanks for that. 4--Generally a comment on the power of the medium of fanfiction--this book (as a fanfiction) has 10 x the power and impact rather than a first-run/original book because the audience already knows all of the future as they read, even the first time through. This creates the possibility for the fanfiction author to create extremely strong emotional reactions and connections with her audience with the barest of a hint or whisper because the author can rely on the reader having already been well established with cannon, so the power to create and navigate extremely powerful emotional material is magnified exponentially. For example, even in the early years in All The Young Dudes, the reader knows that there are decades of anguish and heartache and devastating loss ahead for Remus no matter what happy or loving things he experiences in the arc of the earlier years of the book. In fact, the more lovely things happen to him in the early years, the more heart-wrenching the later inevitable losses will be because he has had that much more to lose. 5--Regarding an issue I haven't seen it overtly dealt with in All the Young Dudes yet, so it may happen later, but in The Debt of Time by ShayaLonnie, she develops an aspect that seems to make a huge amount of sense: that Remus and the mauraders have created a "pack" of their own with Remus as the pack leader. This insulates Remus from falling under the spell of Greyback because Remus has asserted his independence from Greyback since Remus is his own pack leader. I see some hints of something of the sort in All the Young Dudes so far. Notice that in All the Young Dudes, Remus, when he chooses, can give Sirius a direct order and Sirius puzzlingly obeys (such as "sit," although Remus tries not to use this control often). This is because Remus is the established pack leader, and the leader/subordinate connection with Sirius is particularly strong since Siuius is canine. Also, in All the Young Dudes (so far for me), Remus has unexplained power to resist and assert himself rather than submitting to Greyback's attempts to make him submit suggests such an influence (of the "pack" as insulating Remus from Greyback). However, I haven't yet seen it directly/overtly attributed to the establishment of "the pack" (the mauraders) is what has given him this unexplained power. I'm curious to see whether that unfolds later in All the Young Dudes, but I'm doubting it if it hasn't been made clear already (?).
OMG! Last night I just finished until cap 188 but today I ended until Grant epilogue and this video appeared on my recommendations! I knew it would hurt but ATYD took my heart and made me cry so much even knowing what would happen because of HP:c
i feel like his backstory as an orphan kid in care home makes sense because he meets grant there. and that's how he comes to realize about his sexuality
I read ATYD and Out of the blue in a week (out of the blue is the epilogue- set in 2016, grants perspective, two chapters long) and omg grant my poor baby
i guess there is mention about the animagus process where Peter and James (i guess) are talking about it over a book and Pete asks something like "for the whole month?" and the other one respondes with "we can do it over the summer". it is in 4th year, I think.
1. ahhh haha thank you 🥰 2. ohhh im really considering doin that lolll 3.ahhh sadddd also ohh i didn't know someone wrote from sirius's POV ill check out midnight girls thank you~
See with the age gap thing between Tonks and Moony I don’t actually care. My auntie and uncle are eleven years apart and he met her when they were younger because his dad and her grandad were friends. It’s just the fact that Moony is so destined for Sirius that it makes me sad he was with anyone else.
actually euphemia and fleamont are the official names, the ones people have it confused is dorea and charlus, which were known for quite a while by fans.
oh wow wait i totally thought we just accepted euphemia and fleamont cause everyone likes atyd so much lol i just found the pottermore article with their names! www.wizardingworld.com/features/exploring-the-potter-family-etymology
@@amelianotthepilot yeah, it’s in the family tree as well; back in the days, before she who shall not be named revealed their names, people thought they were dorea and charlus potter (i think the names come up in one of the films, but i’m not sure) so you’ll also find a lot of old fanfic with those names.
The way I read all of ATYD then all of ATYD Sirius’s perspective, then all of The Hand That Feeds just to destroy myself. This is the first time I’ve been able to engage with HP universe without like an icky feeling from JKR in the back of my head in years and I’m drowning in sorrow.
6:09 i can see myself in you, I just cry and cry and remember thing of the Hogwarts time, the summer of 77' and cry and cry jisus craist 27:17 THEY COULDVE RAISE LITTLE HARRY I'm gonna cry again
Peter definitely cared about his friends, but not as much as he was scared of Voldemort. His entire character was about him being a coward, set up in both atyd and harry potter.
I mean, I suppose I get why there isn’t extra info about Peter and stuff because most of it’s told from Lupins perspective and it DID come out of no where for him
ohh that’s an interesting take! i think the protection and secret keeper thing would die with james and lily though maybe? since sirius and hagrid were able to get there and get baby harry
it also dives deeper into the whole animagus process since Sirius had the experience and not remus. also explains why they turned in 5th year! but they were planning and preparing since 4th:))
And also I feel like Remus' tragic backstory as a bad boy is intentionally too big because he had to be but it was never really him. It was more of a circumstantial/ situational thing. My heart melted at the fourth year trains scene with the bovver boots! He had to be several different people to fit in in the different places. Also I think that I understand the soft but punk thing because that's my mum in a nutshell!
I am lucky enough that one of my friends read ATYD too, but I realise my need for discussing this fic is much greater. It had an impact as big as Potter had on my childhood. Like Potter for adult "me". I think about them every day, I am on a second read, and considering reading the -non mskingbean89- Sirius' POV version. Yes, I AM fixated. Anyways: I agree about Remus' backstory, for a fic that so loyally followed canon, it s great difference I think, to have Lyall selfunalive and Hope just split completely. Same about bad boy Moony, because I am more into soft-bigsweater-bookworm Moony. It's okay though, I like that when Grant appeared he seemed to leave his delinquent days behind. Peter ended in Gryffindor because I guess after 12 minutes the hat surrendered to Pete's choice, which was obviously to follow James. I think ATYD dropped enough hints about how the Pettigrews were more inclined to follow pure-blood supremacist ideas. As if they carried on their genes the need to follow who they believed to be stronger, a protector. When Peter realised the dark lord was gaining so much power, and so many muggleborns and allies were being killed, he did the good ole switcheroo. I just checked and Fleamont and Euphemia are actually the canon names! Also if I'm not mistaken Kreacher being a hosue-elf for the Potters is canon too, but he's already died.
Sirius dying without knowing about regulus' redemption KILLED ME. I HATED IT
it’s awfullll🥲🥲🥲
My bigest takeaway from this fanfic was the fact, that Sirius have never got time to rest from the war. He had known he was going to engage in it in his fifth year, then he fought after graduating for 2, 3 years?, went to Azkaban for 12 fucking years and when he finally escaped, the second war started. It's just tragic.
^^ reasons i cant sleep at night
At first, I wasn't pretty sure if I liked Remus' new storyline; however, as I kept reading, it trapped me and I finished loving the way he evolved. How he started as a grumpy, punk, and explosive bad-boy to the sarcastic, nerdy, jumper and chocolate lover man that we all love.
i know! i totally buy the plot now remus is definitely aa punk kid
Angel number likes ❤️❤️❤️
Dude the fact he had a little punk phase is still sending me when he showed up to the train dressed in his black boots like that right there was when Sirius and I first developed a crush. I wish with all my heart that this was the series that was published and not HP because this is the series I will reread forever. I'm just gonna read it to my kids someday and tell them this was canon and Harry Potter is a fanfic of James and Lily's kid
“Sarcastic, nerdy, jumper and chocolate lover man” describes him so so well omg
nahh one of my favourite things about atyd is remus’s bad boy persona. And I definitely can see how Remus would have been punk and grungey , it was 70s UK, most teens would have been like that especially in the area he grew up in.
ohhh thats a good point about peter
i do love the character arc i think it is just that it's so different from the shy bookworm persona I associated with him that it threw me. but ugh punnk remu is my everythinggg
Plus it's easier to picture if you take into account that he was like 14-15 and angsty and full of anger, he dropped that style later.
omg yes!!
Mary Macdonald is also a real canon character! In book seven during snape’s memories, Lily mentions her a couple times as a muggle born in gryfindor who snape and mulciber bullied :o
ahh no way!!!
that’s so cool!!! i had no idea!! :))
oh my god! I adored to see her perspective on the magic world so much! It's so interesting to see after rows and rows of characters the wizarding world has wronged, killed and cast out, how she is the first one to outright reject it, I was so fascinated!!
not me responding 8 months later
also during harry's process in order of the phoenix she is there at the ministry and says "you..." to harry bc he reminds her of james

@@amelianotthepilot thank god I‘m not the only one :D
can you please recommend me some good fanficion like this one? i’ve searched a lot but i’ve never found a story as good as atyd😭😭
this is actually the only fanfic i've ever read but i hope someone else sees this comment and gives us a rec
a friend recommended the Listeneise series on ao3 which is like a seggsy wolfstar music fic but i haven't read it so i dunno how it is
@@amelianotthepilot tysm!!!
I think a young Peter Pettigrew valued bravery and obviously looked up to James, Sirius, and Remus, and so because of that value, he was placed in Gryffindor despite having very few of the qualities of a classic Gryffindor.
ohhhh that’s a very interesting point that makes so much sense!
(also i love your nico profile pic)
My advice is to eat some moony toast and read an au where they all survive and live a happy life.
lolll i literally made moony toast the morning after I finished reading it!
you can read "Dressed up in you" also from mskingbean89 !!
I‘m definitely going to do that. I need a happy ending
You got any recs for happy aus?
I NEED TO KNOW NAMES OF AU WHERE THE LIVE
i’m currently reading it and i know it’s going to hurt SO MUCH when i’ll finish it..
youre gonna suffer but youre gonna be happy about it
Honestly, I knew I couldn't take all of that mentally, so for my own best I decided to stop reading once they graduate. After that I just skipped through and read a few passages, to at least somewhat know what happens next (we'll, I of course know the hp saga and everything coming with it, but still...)
And I honestly think this decision was the best choice I could have made.
So, be careful, if you know it'll hurt you maybe stop beforehand.
It IS. A BETTER. HARRY POTTER. YOU SAID IT!!!!! the VIBES THE CHARACTERS THE LITTLE DETAISL EVERYTHINGGGGG
WHAT👏🏻HARRY👏🏻POTTER👏🏻WISHES👏🏻IT👏🏻WAS👏🏻
It's not the story that made me cry, it's the canon ending that made me choke up
Yes! the additional fic where Ted goes to talk to Grant aaaaah 😭
ronks theory: i always thought that tonks offered to carry sirius and remus baby, but when sirius died remus wasn’t sure if he still wanted to continue on with it. but tonks convinced him to do it and before they do it remus and tonks get married to hide the fact they both gay. 🤪
THIS RIGHT HERE made me cry 💜
lupin and tonks are like platonic soulmates for the win
YESSSS i always had a hard time accepting Remus and Tonks i liked Tonks i think she's a great character but i can only ever imagine Remus with Sirius
I LOVE THAT THEORY i looove it, thank you, cuz till now it didnt made sense to me the whole remus x tonks thing, but, even tho is only a theory, i will take this as canon, tysm.
@@andrearattia2529 Exactly!
I think that the fights are perfect for the characters and we’re some of my favourite parts of the story
i think bickering is fine and healthy and their type of romance
but the fact that they dont trust eachother is where the red flags are for me. their lack of trust eventually leads to their tragic ending with james and lily murdered and sirius in jail and remus alone
@@amelianotthepilot Exactly I think this story does a good job of showing how two people can love each other so much but also be terrible at communicating, and hurt each other a lot because of it. They spend half the book avoiding each other because of hurt feelings. So when the big terrible thing happens - it's actually believable.
the animagus method is canon! it's so intense. i love it. it's also so hilarious to imagine them doing this while trying to hide it from minnie lmao
ahaha fr!
It's being adapted into a web series with the blessing of the author!

I swear atyd is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE fanfic ive ever read
me too~
remus’ backstory in atyd, while diverging from canon and his overall “nice guy” vibe, i think it suits him more. jkr (derogatory) often had problems with not fully developing characters before presenting them in the story. she ended up adding new details later on that did not correlate well with the original character. i’d argue that mskingbean89 really sat with these characters and explored them thoroughly before beginning the story. this made EVERY character have a pretty seamless character arch; which i’d argue didn’t happen to the same degree in the harry potter series. that can also be seen in the movies and how there are some pretty major plot holes. either way LOVE ATYD - STAN FOR LIFE
tru tru
LITERALLY THE BEST MARAUDERS ERA FAN FIC EVER. I LOVE IT MORE THAN THE ACTUAL HARRY POTTER BOOKS. AND I WAS LITERALLY NOT OKAY FOR WEEKS AFTER READING IT. I WOULD BURST INTO CRYING IF I WOULD SEE A POST OR A QUOTE FROM THAT BOOK. I'M RE READING IT AGAIN, HOPING IT WOULD HURT LESS BUT STILL LIKE IT TOOK ME A REALLY LONG TIME TO GET OVER IT BUT I'M STILL NOT FULLY RECOVERED I STILL GET EMOTIONAL ON THE MENTION OF THESE CHARACTERS.
i literally kept watching and reading poa and ootp after finishing atyd cause i love torturing myself.

same!! I started reading last wednesday and finished this Saturday. Now I am a mess and in need of more marauders content :')
I just finished it today. I was crying all day.
its been over a month and i'm still in mourning
I guess we'll never know
right?! like theres no way harry potter with his bank full of galleons doesnt have a mansion to inherit like i know they lived in godrics hollow but like where is the potter mansion
and also, i feel like someone like sirius would’ve shown harry the mansion because it’s probably his~
YOU NEED TO READ ALL THE YOUNG DUDES FROM SIRIUS'S PERSPECTIVE
its not over yet but its so so so good
its not written by mskingbean89, its basicly like a copy paste of ATYD but the author changes the perspective... idk how to explain it but trust me its well done, its amazing, and awfuly painful cuz its SIRIUS pov, and we get to see more about his relationship with regulus, and his horrible parents, and his thoughts about remus....(i honestly need help, my heart hasnt stop aching since i started ATYD and now i think this has become an obssesion T-T)
anyways, the fic its also in Ao3, its called "All the Young Dudes - Sirius's Perspective" by Rollercoasterwords.
read it if you dare.

I speak for myself and I hope everyone else when I say you summed up most of our thoughts pretty well and I loved the video.
ahhh thank u so much🥰🥰
(grant chapman supremacy for reallll)
I feel this sm. I love wolfstar, to the point I can’t even think of remus or sirius as attractive bc they only belong to each other, but grant is my sweet baby and I would kill for him.
i will never stop sobbing abotu marlene mckinnon. like her death hit me so hard i cried from that moment on til the end. what a fucking masterpiece
ughh i know it was so shocking!
and then watching the movies after and hearing her mentioned is ughhhhh
i postponed reading the 1981 part so muchhh til i couldn't anymore and well, it left me DESTROYED

I am so so glad I’m not the only one who was destroyed by this book. I felt ridiculous about how sad I was, but at least I’m not the only one. I read some happy au stories and that helped, and am now rereading ATYD but am going to *stop* before the war really gets bad
I postponed it for a few hours but didn't want to stop reading. I physically could not stop reading
"i chose love"
also . . . shout out to the audiobook version posted to youtube by fluer's uploads--I'll link it here if I can . . . is AMAZING!!!!!!!! I am absolutely in love with the voices, especially how she voices Reums--she brings soooooooooo much to the Remus character way beyond what is printed on the page, just how she voices him, especially in the middle and later years. Highly recommend listening if you can. Point of order, looks like a lot of the classic rock & roll song lyrics from the original fanfiction work have been censored out of the audiobook version, assumedly because youtube wouldn't allow it for copyright reasons, so that is sad, but still worth it. ruclips.net/video/y27XEwCYK4U/видео.html
very cool thanks!
for those who want to start reading, be prepared to cry ... a lot
Have you read/listened to the Bootleg or Christmas tapes. The Christmas tapes include more of the Peter backstory, plus some really wholesome other bits. There is also another one called 'out of the blue' it's about Grant meeting Teddy.
yea! i read bootleg tapes and out of the blue
i didn’t read the christmas ones those cause i thought it was just copies of all the christmases they spent together. i’ll

the death that hit me the most is the McKinnon family 😭😭😭😭😭😭 the way they were laid out- marlene and yaz almost holding hands like remus and tonks in the books + movie oh my facking gawd and danny omfggg
It doesn’t matter how you look at it, Remus was a bad boy, he was a Marauder. However, that part of him died with Lily and James.

im honestly considering rereading it again already lolll
I keep wanting to cry when I think about all of their tragic lifes, I love the marauders so much and I wish they had had more happy time.

oh man what a wild trip i’m sorry my dude but welcome to the club of suffering
this whole book made me so emotional, i finished it yesterday and i still haven’t stopped crying 😭
that’s a big mood
Definitely my favourite fanfic is "A Very Thin Line" by LavenderBrown. It is however 18+ for sexual themes and content. It's also a Marauders era story but only encapsulates their seventh year from Lily and James' points of view.
ohh cool thank u!
I reccomend reading the "out of the blue" one shot that hapens after the second war from grant's perspective. made me cry so much it's so good
ahh i read it! it was so saddd
I just wanted to say that from what I understood Potter manor and the place in Godric's Hollow where James and Lily died are two different houses that belong to the same family, like a summer house which I believe is called Potter cottage. And as regards the spell of the secret keeper it's like the first time the order takes harry to Grimmauld place, at the beginning he doesn't see anything but then with the invitation of the secret keeper he could see it. even if voldemort knew where the potters used to live he could not see the house nor enter.
ohhh that makes sense thats how i think of it too. i just wish that was explained in the story

it’s sooo gooodddd i’ve never cried so hard for a story
It's been MONTHS and I still can't move on

The add on with Grant and Teddy broke me 😫
I read it over less than two weeks at the beginning of June and oh boy it was Two very painful weeks.
Did I mention that since, everything I read seems so bland
Also, I LOVED the arc about the werewolves and what it implies, with the effect on Remus' magic and the pain of the transformations and the complexity of a pack. This was some brilliant writing here

(sorry for so many questionsss T-T )
I started this book as a Snape fan who very much disliked the Marauders as a whole and I LOVED IT.
…and how do you feel about snape and the marauders now?
I really didn't like the marauders before this but the characterisation in this fic is excellent and very human
yk i don't really think there's a jump from peter being their bff to being the one who sells james and lily to voldemort. i think that EXACTLY because he was kinda left out (i mean TO ME it doesn't really sound like they involved him much or talked to him that much for that matter - if that makes sense) he then ends up selling james and lily to voldemort. who knows maybe be he did feel abandoned, left out so he kinda sought his revenge???
tru i guess just as a gryffindor i can never imagine the possibility of selling out my friends no matter how distant a friend they are ughhh pete honestly doesnt belong in any house lol
I've finished reading it for a week now and this is soooooo good (still hadn't recovered) and you can't convince me that what happens in ATYD is not what did happen I mean I don't care what Rowling says ATYD are facts
it is canon in my book
If I was JKR I would acknowledge it and just say Remus is bi with a preference for men tonks kind of gave me transmasc vibes anyways
i loved this review, but I can't believe you got through it without mentioning loml Grant Chapman once lmao
honestly i love grant so much but i was so focused on talking about how it fits into cannon i totally didn't even think to talk about him! ill just have to make another vid dedicated to my love
Honestly that is so true. No matter what, peter doesn't deserve any redemption. He has done the worst of the worst. And I also felt that remus was redeemed because of what came with tonk's pregnancy.
pete is honestly the worst i wish we got more backstory for him though
You should read the Christmas Compilation, the Bootleg Tapes and the 'Out of the Blue' story. They give a lot of backround to the other characters. Also, Fleamont and Euphemia is canon it's in she who shall not be named's archive on wizarding world :)
i have read those they were so good!!!
ohmygod really i thought they were just fanon names?!
couple comments: 1--the 13-year gap between Remus and Tonks is not that weird when you consider the long length of wizard lives. I'm curious to see whether that unfolds later in All the Young Dudes, but I'm doubting it if it hasn't been made clear already (?).
oh i’ve never read that i’ll check it out!
Oooooh
OMG! Last night I just finished until cap 188 but today I ended until Grant epilogue and this
video appeared on my recommendations! I knew it would hurt but ATYD took my
heart and made me cry so much even knowing what would happen because of HP:c
ahhh its so gooodddd
i feel like his backstory as an orphan kid in care home makes sense because he meets grant there. and that's how he comes to realize about his sexuality
I read ATYD and Out of the blue in a week (out of the blue is the epilogue- set in 2016, grants perspective, two chapters long) and omg grant my poor baby
My favourite thing ever! I cried for two days during the last few chapters
honestly so did i
i guess there is mention about the animagus process where Peter and James (i guess) are talking about it over a book and Pete asks something like "for the whole month?" and the other one respondes with "we can do it over the summer". it is in 4th year, I think.
1.you look like maya hawke
1. ahhh haha thank you 🥰
2. ohhh im really considering doin that lolll
3.ahhh sadddd also ohh i didn't know someone wrote from sirius's POV
ill check out midnight girls thank you~
See with the age gap thing between Tonks and Moony I don’t actually care. My auntie and uncle are eleven years apart and he met her when they were younger because his dad and her grandad were friends. It’s just the fact that Moony is so destined for Sirius that it makes me sad he was with anyone else.
actually euphemia and fleamont are the official names, the ones people have it confused is dorea and charlus, which were known for quite a while by fans.
oh wow wait i totally thought we just accepted euphemia and fleamont cause everyone likes atyd so much lol
i just found the pottermore article with their names! www.wizardingworld.com/features/exploring-the-potter-family-etymology
This is the first time I’ve been able to engage with HP universe without like an icky feeling from JKR in the back of my head in years and I’m drowning in sorrow.
ohhh i haven’t read sirius pov yet i heard there’s a james pov as well 😢
No but why do we all get sad FOR DAYS during/after reading ATYD??
the potters' name is definitely cannon now
i have this whole vision in my mind of the potters house and ah i love it
ohh i need to know i just picture it as a mansion but i think about the layouts of the buildings in hp alot lol
Finished it in four days and you capture all the feelings 😭
four days!? wow that’s so fast!
im still crying about regulus. i read it a month ago
stopppp i think about reggie every dayyyyy
Something I would add was that Llyal offended Fenrir and that is why he came and bit Remus
6:09 i can see myself in you, I just cry and cry and remember thing of the Hogwarts time, the summer of 77' and cry and cry jisus craist
27:17 THEY COULDVE RAISE LITTLE HARRY I'm gonna cry again
I WISH THEY REAISED HARRY I LITERALLY THINK ABOUT IT WVERYDAYYYYY😭😭😭
I need a fanfic where Sirius and Remus raise Harry or where he lives with them 😭
fr 😩
Peter definitely cared about his friends, but not as much as he was scared of Voldemort. His entire character was about him being a coward, set up in both atyd and harry potter.
I finished it in three days it was literally so good it made me cry so much 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
ughhh so gooddd
ive been bursting out crying randomly for the past two hours since i finished reading it
this is such a big mood
You should definitely read sirius' perspective
ohh i’ll check it out!
@@amelianotthepilotthere’s also a James one coming out
It took you a moth?! girl I finish it in 11 days and im still not over it
i needed time to process and mourn lol
I mean, I suppose I get why there isn’t extra info about Peter and stuff because most of it’s told from Lupins perspective and it DID come out of no where for him
tru but i still feel like there’s ways to reveal things to the reader without revealing it to the character especially when it’s told in 3rd person
The ATYD audios by fleurs uploads are the best....
starting to read it now and boy, i can tell im going to spill quite a few tears over it
"youre gonna suffer but youre gonna be happy about it"
best of luck
I guess Harry couldn’t get the house until Peter dies because he’s still the secret keeper?
ohh that’s an interesting take! i think the protection and secret keeper thing would die with james and lily though maybe? since sirius and hagrid were able to get there and get baby harry
i completely forgot about the potter mansion holy crap
if you didn't know already someone wrote ATYD but Sirius' Pov!!! its not done yet but its very well written too! author updates everyday!
cool i’ll check it out!
it also dives deeper into the whole animagus process since Sirius had the experience and not remus. also explains why they turned in 5th year! but they were planning and preparing since 4th:))
Omg can someone send me the link???
Hi! Hope's surname was changed in ATYD because she had remarried after Lyall! (I'm pretty sure that was it!) x
And also I feel like Remus' tragic backstory as a bad boy is intentionally too big because he had to be but it was never really him. It was more of a circumstantial/ situational thing. My heart melted at the fourth year trains scene with the bovver boots! He had to be several different people to fit in in the different places. Also I think that I understand the soft but punk thing because that's my mum in a nutshell!
ohhh good point i didn’t think of that
interesting perspective on his bad boy status that makes it’s sadderrrrrrr
