    Thanks for this. With the cheap spool string that comes with it, the string would break literally every 30 seconds.. I respooled with the ugly line and WOW.. I did the whole front yard, back yard and along the fence with knee high thick grass without it even breaking once. It's like it's a brand new edger

    I use .080 line and shave the end with a utility knife to fit it in the notch at the bottom of the spool. The line lasts much longer. Been doing this for years reliably.
    Im doing this on St Augustine grass. It cuts much better with the thicker line although its still weak for this grass type. It will maintain it okay but every month or two it needs a real edger to reshape the edge otherwise the thicker strands grow over and it will take a long time to cut with just string.

    Does anyone read the manual for WG170, why do I never have to use the line feed. But why does the line disappear so fast. Every time you let off trigger & stop, it feeds 1/4 inch of line out automatically.

      I went through 2 spools in less than 1/2 hr. I called Worx's customer service, and they said something about a spring but nowhere on YT this is mentioned, and I've seen a 1/2 dozen videos of changing spools and no spring mentioned???????

      I use this model and respool my own string for years.
      I use .080 line and shave the end with a utility knife to fit it into the notch. It works much better like this.
      Edit:. The problem with the line letting lose as described above, in my experience, has to do with not using the little notch in the spool correctly. It needs to be put in and then bent over filling the spool in the direction of the arrows. If you dont start the line in the notch and bend it over in the opposite direction it has nothing to anchor to.
      I don't know how else to word it. I hope it's not confusing.

    I have this trimmer with the 32v batteries. Is there an attachment that can be added to cut down small sapling trees up to about 1/4" in diameter? Thank you.

      Sorry, I've never tried this on the Worx. I know my old Ryobi trimmer did because I had different attachments for it.

    Can you please tell me what that command line button does? I don’t understand it.

    • @jkprojectsnstuff697
      @jkprojectsnstuff697  2 года назад

      Basically it's a brake, it stops the string from turning. If you just push the button and let off, it'll whip more string out so that your line is longer. You can do the same thing just by letting off the trigger and pulling again, but I do use the command line button now.

    Thanks for the Hacks but you also need to wear long trousers when strimming the border because it flicks soil towards you and it stings

      Definitely! I was tired of the red WORX line getting hung up inside the spool. Almost seems like it melts to itself and then breaks. I haven't had any problems since I switched to the Ugly Line by Shakespeare.

      @@kevin.argueta Yes, this line is much better quality than Worx red line and lasts much longer. Shakespeare makes even better line that this, but I'm very happy with the Ugly Line.

    Does it still auto feed with this new line?

    • @jkprojectsnstuff697
      @jkprojectsnstuff697  3 года назад +5

      Yes, doesn't change a thing as far as line feed. I'll never go back to WORX stock line. One thing I'd recommend is sacrificing one of the stock red line spools and unwinding it to give you a better idea of how they wind their spools. Thanks for the question!

    I dont understand how hack 2 is a hack thats how its supposed to be used for edging but not with the handle upright, the operator should be behind the tool not next to it.

    • @jkprojectsnstuff697
      @jkprojectsnstuff697  3 года назад +2

      I've found by flipping the tool around backwards and standing it upright, the guard is low to the ground and deflects mulch back into the bed rather than flipping mulch out into the grass. I still edge my driveway using the rollers as Worx intended the edger to be used.

    • @bpatriquin123
      @bpatriquin123 2 года назад +1

      @@jkprojectsnstuff697 I prefer keeping the guard low just as you described, but you came accomplish the same thing by unlocking the height adjustment and just twisting the pole 180 degrees. If that line hits a rock or a big piece of mulch and snaps, that thing is comin straight at you by holding it like that

      The 20V WORX trimmers aren't the most powerful trimmers, but they do a fairly decent job for the average home owner. Thanks for watching, Sean. Next up is a pressure washing video using a surface cleaner attachment. Plus, I'll have an update on the high-lift blade for the Toro 60V Super Recycler.
