Great tips! I'm 58 and thankfully still have decent legs. I love wearing the 3-5 inch inseam shorts on my petite frame as they don't look frumpy, but also not "mutton dressed as lamb". This video completely speaks to me! I am early 50's, have worn shorts all my life and do not intend to stop anytime soon. It's all in the cut (just like you said, Erin) and the styling! The A-line shape, belted is my favorite!! Fabric must come away from the thighs, not hug them! I also like to pair with a long cardigan duster. Colder weather, I like to do tall boots with an oversized sweater. I even like to dress them up with dark tights and chunky heels or loafers! Shorts rock!
I haven't worn shorts in years, mostly because of the riding up on my inner thighs. At 65, I have found a new friend in wearing a skort. (combination of a skirt and shorts). It can't be seen if material rides up your legs and tend to still be casual enough to just wear a tee shirt with. I also feel a lot more comfortable bending over. With your tips, I may try shorts again though.
Such a great video Erin! I have the hardest time finding shorts , I’ve got muscular quads and a bigger bottom so it’s a challenge finding ones that are not too short or tight on me , but also not too long and frumpy

Target has a pair exactly the same style right now in black or olive green and a flowy fabric for less than $20. I actually thought that was what she was wearing until she said faux leather. I have them in black and they are fabulous.
.... Right ???!! I never wore those things, so unclassy, and I wore NICE shorts, up until about 58/59.... I don't wear shorts , unless they are longer length ...; I prefer skirts and golf skirts ... The golf skirts are so comfortable, have shorts built in underneath, and look decent paired with a nice top and sandals. 🙂

Great, marvelous video Erin! I simply love my shorts, especially in this tropical weather 250 days in a year. I like all sort of shorts. Never big in shorts - short even when I was much younger. I usually pair my shorts with a looser Tee, a simple tank, with or light weight shirts. I also love hats. I like pairing with either my basic flip-flops, I know that didn't sound interesting at all, but I need to think of my sudden downpour weather. If I am not going to be outdoor much, I'll pair it with a open toes heels, preferably kitten heels, or a pair of basic sneakers, or a pair of red ballet flats. I have only one pair of well designed linen Bermuda shorts left in my summer wardrobe after binging on your videos. They were purchased in Australia three years ago. I prefer summer dresses and long skirts as I find them very comfortable. I did keep two flattering white V neck short sleeve Ts and two white blouses I wear with pretty white camisoles. Learning the knack of turning up the sleeves for extremely hot weather makes a big difference.
Every single short outfit you featured is so classy and elegant. I particularly like the black leather shorts 😍 It has inspired me to maybe wear more shorts. I’m definitely not against wearing them, and here in Florida where I live they are almost a staple. But for some reason I only have one pair and almost never wear them. I bought them for Disney 😂. I will now go and inspect them to see if they meet the criteria. My problem is I have thick thighs and sometimes they look too tight or if they are looser they bunch up between my legs as I walk 🤦🏼♀️
Great tips! If I may add, I don’t like my knees anymore, so I look for a longer, slimmer leg (they come in all sizes) and inseam. I also pair them quite frequently with a linen long sleeved shirt (hate my arms too) and/or a linen or seersucker blazer. Just add a wedge sandal or espadrille-wedge and you’ve just gone from schlumpy to preppy-chic. Or, add a flowy, embroidered tunic with dangling earrings for a cool boho look. 💟 PS, love your hair parted on the side! 😊
I feel these tips are universal for any age. It's just when you're younger you can be forgiven for faux Pas and unrefined choices, there's a general sense of "that looks bad but it's okay on the youth". There's a forgiveness we give because of assumed naivety. So when older ladies start talking about they don't have the "legs or nice skin" that that's why they're not wearing certain things anymore, most times it's not the case, it's that their ages no longer get them a pass for looking too unrefined/ dressing like you don't know what you're doing. Short shorts with butt cheeks hanging out? Even some young kids wouldn't do that and it's not a confidence issue. Most fashion tips that say "over 30,40" just seem to be about dressing classy/intentional
I am about 30 years over 40! I recently found a pair of white linen shorts with a dainty print. They have a 4 inch wider leg. They look fabulous on me. I wear them with upscale tops and wish I could find more like this.

I’m safe! Lol All your don’ts were my don’ts since I was a teenager. In New Mexico I live in shorts during summer and find some great, elevated pieces at white house black market. Pair them with button down shirts, silk shirts, cardigans, vests, blazers, belts, all those are so simple and so doable and look so chic in the end.
This is all good advice for thin ladies. When you are thicker, your legs rub together and make shorts crawl up in the crotch along the inner seam, so roomy legs are not an option for most of us thicker girls.
I've found hanes bike shorts that are in grey and black that are very soft but close to being spandex but not shiny or tight. They are very affordable if you search the correct ones....hanes biker shorts or cotten jersy
When i got older i want room-ier clothing anyway👍 FYI CT or dermablend more affordable option is the sally hansen great legs. Its better and affordable in my opinion Kardasians wear by it
So funny you made this video bcuZ I've been having a hard time finding shorts at age 54. I got rid of my shorter shorts and also discovered that a looser fitting short that doesn't hug my thighs does make my legs look slimmer. Just like you said! However, I am finding that the trendy high waisted shorts tend to make my butt look flat. Ahhh the struggle is real.

I got some Frame shorts that are working out. The Agoldi seem to be made for shorter waisted ladies. The Frames are a little infer in the waist. I am a happy camper!
Not really. Just remember that if you go with a longer inseam, be careful with how you style them to avoid either looking frumpy or too prim and proper. Have fun with your shorts. xo

This is a fabulous video! As a woman who is 41, this short topic is one that I revisit every year as I get older. I love longer inseams, and I think 5 inseams are my personal preference too. I am only 5 foot tall and I just feel most comfortable at the 5 inches, but I do have maybe a few 3 inch pairs. I also wear button downs, blazers and often tie my button downs at the waist with my shorts. You look amazing in all the styled looks! Thanks for sharing your ideas!
thanks for your advise, I'm 46 this year, and this year, they restricted the Baja cities to visit , only if you're from that town..But we can go and visit the Tijuana Beach..and I saw the styling advise with the Bermuda shorts, or a short denims with a Bermuda size shorts. I never liked short shorts wen I was single, I preferred mini dress shorts, some are very conservative length and a great cut without looking like an old lady..Have a great summer girl! and hope my best wishes to you and your family

I’m 59 and live in Florida. I had gotten away from shorts for a while because I decided my legs that I always loved, had gotten ugly at the knees, even with weight lifting. 3 months of running and I’ve got my legs back!! Back to shorts (with lotion)
I just picked up a couple pairs of shorts from Walmart. They have room in the leg area and are flattering on my curvy side size 14 body. I didn’t think they would look nice but I styled them to look elevated instead of casual. I probably learned this from you Erin! Tfs

Hi Erin, I am literally jumping up and down since a look I have is one you are showing in your video!!!! I have a pair of khaki green silk shorts (Nordstroms - the old jockey jogging shorts style) that I pair with with a long sleeve linen shirt I’ve owned for 15+ years (and looks perfect like brand new). I went on my honeymoon in 2017 (at age 54) to Kauai, Hawaii and stayed at the Marriott where there were amazing restaurants onsite that I would wear this outfit too. For that honeymoon I also bought 4-inch inseam coral colored shorts from Ann Taylor that I also dressed up and down! I remember being in such a stressed out mood because I hadn’t bought a pair of shorts in 10 years, but styling them well made me love shorts again!
Lots of great advice, on length, roominess, bronzer - I think it's a fact that no matter what size we are, clothes are way more flattering when roomy. BUT I will never wear cut offs, not ever ever no matter what!

But since I got pregnant with my baby I had a hard time losing weight, I'm size M now with big lower belly pooch (working on it). Checking all my old beautiful summer dresses and shorts I then realized well those clothes are too short! Even the shorts I got last year. I am about 30 years over 40! I recently found a pair of white linen shorts with a dainty print. They have a 4 inch wider leg. They look fabulous on me. I wear them with upscale tops and wish I could find more like this.

Thanks for the video! I’m trying to find shorts that flatter but it’s hard. I have a scar from my knee all the way up to my hip and for years was too embarrassed to be seen in shorts. I want to be comfortable and cute-so bring on the shorts!

LOVE the "dressed-up" look of the wider-legged shorts, with the pretty tops and the white blazer. Though personally, at 43, I'm less fond of the denim cut-offs at this age. (Even though you look INCREDIBLE. I just prefer to leave them to the young'uns.)

I’m safe! Lol All your don’ts were my don’ts since I was a teenager. In New Mexico I live in shorts during summer and find some great, elevated pieces at white house black market. Pair them with button down shirts, silk shirts, cardigans, vests, blazers, belts, all those are so simple and so doable and look so chic in the end.

This is all good advice for thin ladies. When you are thicker, your legs rub together and make shorts crawl up in the crotch along the inner seam, so roomy legs are not an option for most of us thicker girls.
i would think tight shorts are worse.
I've found hanes bike shorts that are in grey and black that are very soft but close to being spandex but not shiny or tight. They are very affordable if you search the correct ones....hanes biker shorts or cotten jersy
When i got older i want room-ier clothing anyway👍
FYI CT or dermablend more affordable option is the sally hansen great legs. Its better and affordable in my opinion

So funny you made this video bcuZ I've been having a hard time finding shorts at age 54. I got rid of my shorter shorts and also discovered that a looser fitting short that doesn't hug my thighs does make my legs look slimmer. Just like you said! However, I am finding that the trendy high waisted shorts tend to make my butt look flat. Ahhh the struggle is real.

Great tips, I am 54 and usually wear my cut off shorts home and working in the garden or beach, and I accumulate a good collection of J crew dressy shorts for more formal occasions like restaurants or movies, I will miss J crew.

I got some Frame shorts that are working out. The Agoldi seem to be made for shorter waisted ladies. The Frames are a little infer in the waist. I am a happy camper!

Not really. Just remember that if you go with a longer inseam, be careful with how you style them to avoid either looking frumpy or too prim and proper. Have fun with your shorts. xo

You have KILLER legs and look so good in shorts, Erin! I personally prefer skirts. I find them more comfortable and flattering for my curves and legs. I haven't worn shorts in... gosh, at least 5 years, but now I'm having shorts envy!
Maybe you will try one of the styles in this video. I think the A-line style shorts give a similar look to a skirt. I also love skirts and dresses as alternatives to shorts. xo

@@BusbeeStyle rather than more appropriate, I think younger people are forgiven for unclassy choices because it's assumed they don't know any better and aren't expected to. Like how we're okay with teens wearing low rise very baggy jeans that drag on the floor.

This is a fabulous video! As a woman who is 41, this short topic is one that I revisit every year as I get older. I love longer inseams, and I think 5 inseams are my personal preference too. I am only 5 foot tall and I just feel most comfortable at the 5 inches, but I do have maybe a few 3 inch pairs. I also wear button downs, blazers and often tie my button downs at the waist with my shorts. You look amazing in all the styled looks! Thanks for sharing your ideas!

thanks for your advise, I'm 46 this year, and this year, they restricted the Baja cities to visit , only if you're from that town..But we can go and visit the Tijuana Beach..and I saw the styling advise with the Bermuda shorts, or a short denims with a Bermuda size shorts. I never liked short shorts wen I was single, I preferred mini dress shorts, some are very conservative length and a great cut without looking like an old lady..Have a great summer girl! and hope my best wishes to you and your family

I’m 59 and live in Florida. I had gotten away from shorts for a while because I decided my legs that I always loved, had gotten ugly at the knees, even with weight lifting. 3 months of running and I’ve got my legs back!! Back to shorts (with lotion)

I just picked up a couple pairs of shorts from Walmart. They have room in the leg area and are flattering on my curvy side size 14 body. I didn’t think they would look nice but I styled them to look elevated instead of casual. I probably learned this from you Erin! Tfs

Hi Erin, I am literally jumping up and down since a look I have is one you are showing in your video!!!! I have a pair of khaki green silk shorts (Nordstroms - the old jockey jogging shorts style) that I pair with with a long sleeve linen shirt I’ve owned for 15+ years (and looks perfect like brand new).
I went on my honeymoon in 2017 (at age 54) to Kauai, Hawaii and stayed at the Marriott where there were amazing restaurants onsite that I would wear this outfit too. For that honeymoon I also bought 4-inch inseam coral colored shorts from Ann Taylor that I also dressed up and down! I remember being in such a stressed out mood because I hadn’t bought a pair of shorts in 10 years, but styling them well made me love shorts again!

Lots of great advice, on length, roominess, bronzer - I think it's a fact that no matter what size we are, clothes are way more flattering when roomy. BUT I will never wear cut offs, not ever ever no matter what!

Great video, thank you! I'm 39 and was XS pretty much my whole teenage years and until I was 37. But since I got pregnant with my baby I had a hard time losing weight, I'm size M now with big lower belly pooch (working on it). Checking all my old beautiful summer dresses and shorts I then realized well those clothes are too short! Even the shorts I got last year. Now it's summer time again and your tips definitely helps me a lot. I love the one with blazer and cami top, it looks so chic!
