Thank you again for such awesome advice. I’m 56 yrs young and while I can still “rock” a pair of shorts, I typically don’t wear them out and about anymore. I’m more comfortable wearing light weight capris 😀
Great style advice as always. I'm almost 62, petite and will wear shorts all summer here in Texas. I'm posting a video later this week on style suggestions for shorts outfits for the mature woman.

As a woman of a certain age, YOU are who I’ve been looking for.
For myself I'm most comfortable in the city short length - right at the knee - always appropriate and easy to dress up or down . Usually found in a chino type material but also have a couple of pairs in denim . I don't have the best legs and am anxious to avoid becoming some of the unattractive sights I think we've all seen out there . Nice video on the different short looks .

Great, professional video Beth. I still like to wear a shorter short in my 50s as I live in a hot climate but I've found that it's more flattering to wear one size up so that they sit a little lower on the hip and longer in the crotch. Tight fitting shorts, even of a modest length, don't look chic imo.

LOL I use the 'fingertip length shorts' rule, also. But, I'm only 5'3" and have a long-torso and short legs, so "fingertip" on me is only a 4" inseam! I rock that length all the time - everything else is sagging, but I still have good legs!
that's why there are a few different lengths out there. one length is sure to be your favorite. like the 4" inseam. keep rocking those shorts!

Thank you! I am almost 58. My husband is a diplomat and we currently are in Mexico City, therefire I have nor=t worn shorts in 3 years. I was wondering if I would wear them again. Your arm exercises video has encouraged me to try to be fit again. Everytime I tryed with other videos it was just to hard but your exercises are achievable! I want to try them with 3 pounds next!
At five foot one I agree shorter length shorts are the most flattering on petite women but past a certain age, there are additional issues. I’m short waisted, thus not fond of the high waisted styles currently in vogue which draw attention to this flaw.
My way around this is to go up a size or two so the high waist falls below the natural waistline and settle around the high hip. It works best with well tailored shorts that have a bit of flare. And too-short shorts no longer look scanty when worn this way.
I believe when petite women go for a tone-on-tone look many rules can be effectively broken. The illusion of one colour creates an unbroken line which is slimming on any frame and especially helpful for petites. I’ll wear knee lengths when going for a tonal look and feel much more chic than I otherwise would.
Love your photo examples, Beth, and it’d be fun to see you demonstrate some of these ideas. Definitely will tune into your channel again.

Im 49 and have great legs, fit, no cottage cheese, No veins, but I have this extra skin on the top part over my knees, lol we cant win as women its always something. That being said I still wear thigh high shorts and mid thigh, I get compliments on my legs more now then in my early years!

I have heavy legs with chubby knees so never wear shorts 😊 I think mid thigh culottes shorts particularly of a fluid fabric like viscose with a wedge can look great . Xx

Older Women Rock: Thanks for adding another point of view. There’s more than one kind of beauty and that includes legs of all shapes and sizes. If shorts aren’t comfortable for you, fine, but any onlookers will be busy admiring your pretty face and lustrous hair. Even if their gaze drops briefly to include your whole figure, I’d wager they’d quickly be looking back up again. Quite honestly, you’re gorgeous!
I didn’t always wear shorts because I have heavier legs. The advantage of aging is I care less about pleasing others notions of beauty. Shorts are cool and easy summer gear. I think I’m quite a bit older than you and hope as a few years go by, your confidence grows in proportion to your beauty and you wear absolutely anything you want. Believe me, you’ll be gorgeous no matter what.

Bonjour Marie Claire Levon. I understand, because I live in Germany and I was married to a French man. European women do not wear shorts very often - maybe on the beach and golf course. However, I was born in the southern United States where it gets very hot and humid. It’s totally acceptable for women over 50 to wear shorts there. Personally, I think they look better when they are a bit dressed up as Beth has done here. I think mostly American women are too casual.The last time I was in Paris, I noticed more women wearing shorts. Rules are changing!

I'm another petite woman who the fingertip rule don't work for, as that is too short. I like my shorts to hit above my knee, not mid thigh. Cute style you have tho😊

At age 70 I don't wear shorts of any sort, but feel comfortable in capris. Hides funny knees, but still cool in hot weather.
If it’s hot enough for shorts it’s to hot for a blazer…
Don't think it has anything to do with age but the condition of the legs. So many women of any age have terrible legs for one reason or another and should give shorts a pass.
I think women after 50-60 years old in short shorts do not look attractive, showing aging legs.
