It’s nice having a fellow tall guy as a reviewer. I’m 6’3” appreciate your input
Thanks!
Was a bit afraid of the being squished feeling but as a tall guy, after seeing this video i returned my chair zero for a high back. Thanks!!
I am glad I could help!
I think I’m going to order one. Thank You Mark for the information and recommendations!
Hope you enjoy it!
My man, great video, been thinking about the highback, I have the ground chair, so no weight change for me. Being 6 foot I was glad to hear about the back. Think I am going to order the highback. Thanks again
You will be happy with it! I’m gonna try that idea with the little wiffle balls, and see how that works because it should sink less that way
@@BackpackingGearNut I tend to put rocks or twigs under the front legs to recline a bit, but soft ground is great using a controlled sink, plus being lower to the ground makes it easier to find a Footrest.
Ooh, new setup looks nice! 🔥
Glad you think so!
Helinox also makes groundsheet and ball feet for these two chairs. Using either one will prevent your chair from sinking on sands or soft grounds.
I considered those items, but they are pretty heavy for what they are. I'll let everybody know how the whiffle balls go.
Very useful comparison, TY
My pleasure
I wrote off Helinox when they raised the price of the chair by $30 and removed the option to buy a replacement seat net on the site.
The high back looks nice but its only been out a few months and already increased in price as well. I’ll wait til someone copies the design and sells it for a better price.
The cost of goods is always a personal preference. I also found it hard to pay for the high-back, but now that I have it, I would buy it again. However, if they keep raising the price, they will find that people like me might not be willing to buy it.
If you find a chair that weighs the same or lighter, please let me Know?
Have a great day, and see you out on the trails.
@@BackpackingGearNut The price is steep but for me it's the business model and message that is sent that rubs me the wrong way. These chairs have blown up in sales and that allows companies to maintain if not lower price points. Not only has it gone up but at 6x the inflation rate. That is just price gouging. They also noticed people were using the chair one frame with the chair zero seat to only increase the weight by 4 ounces and gain 55 lbs of weight capacity without paying a price premium for a 'new' model. They took away the ability to buy a seat and released the model for an even higher cost than the zero even though it was a cheaper frameset. You also have to buy a whole new chair if your seat rips.
Had they originally released it at $150, it would have been a hard pill to swallow but to get a convincing chair at only 1 pound, a lot of people will still pay that. However, doing it the way they did seems like they resent the customers who are supporting their product en-masse.
@@BackpackingGearNut I ended up going with the Nemo Moonlite, which is quite a bit heavier at 1lb 14oz. Seat sits 2" higher and the ability to switch from a reclining to upright position sold me on it. It also has a little more weight capacity so it doesn't flex.
After a while I realized the 1lb weight limit for a chair was just an arbitrary number set by one manufacturer. At the end of the day, the difference of carrying an extra 2lbs isn't going to be as significant as the difference of having a chair and not, at least to me. I chose the Nemo because it's still a very lightweight chair with just enough features to make it feel much more like a regular camping chair.
Same price as the Helinox but it's 50% off right now at REI.
@@WolfPackM98c I too have the Nemo chair. I purchased it for my wife because she liked how stable it felt. It’s a great chair. I do wish it was a little bit lighter because I carry it for her :-).
A chair that I want to purchase is the big Agnes UL skyline. I have been hearing great things about it and how it sits higher and is also more stable than the Helinox chair. Those go on sale from time to time, so I’m just waiting for the right time to pick one up.
@@BackpackingGearNut Seems like we're on the same page, cause those are the three chairs I was choosing between as well, lol.
Another good option I saw was the Sierra Madre Air Chair. Only 2 oz heavier than the chair zero with a higher weight capacity and only cost $85 with their site coupon.
Thank u, regards from AUSTRIA
I hope someday to travel to many places in the world, and I've heard Austria is a beautiful place. Is there some great backpacking there?
@@BackpackingGearNut Yes it’s perfect for hiking, in my country (Tirol) there are the most and biggest mountains from Austria. Vienna is only flat. We have fall now. I want so sleep outside this winter, i love my new gear for that. Regards
I see the background on your videos are really breathtaking! The Problem in Austria its not allowed to sleep in a Tend outside but thats not a problem for me. Just keep a eye to the nature to left your place clean.
Wow, I didn't know that. Is it because there are no public lands?
I think it is the same for England. I've heard Paul Messner talk about how he has to stealth camp, but he should get some beautiful footage from where he is.
Are those Hoka Speedgoats Mark?
I bought the Chair One when it first came out and I still use it a lot. Great design from Helinox, I expect the Zero and Highback are the same.
Yes, those are speed goats. They are quickly becoming my favorite shoe.
The chairs are similar but sit in a much different way. I find the new chair more comfortable, but on 15+ mile days, I will still carry the lighter one because it's 6 ounces lighter.
@@BackpackingGearNut I reckon I’ll get a pair of Speedgoats, I’ve been wearing Salomon Speedcross for my last six pairs of trail runners but I don’t think there’s as much cushion in the later models.
I saw your review on the Helinox table, they just have a great R&D department, unfortunately they’re open to abuse from Chinese counterfeiting.
The shoes I had just before were the Solomon outpoles. There's hardly anywhere on them because I brought them in for two weeks, then I made a 40-mile weekend backpacking trip, and they were horrible. My feet were literally black and blue on the bottoms. I have never had a pair of shoes do that before, and I trust the Solomons because they make good shoes. It's just this particular one that is not great for me. The speed goats have been doing great for me.
@@BackpackingGearNut That would confirm what I’ve been thinking then. They’ve changed the formula for the sole and they’re less cushioned than previous iterations. It’s a pity they did that but it gives me a reason to try other brands.
