- The main reason cruise ships visit Skagway, Alaska is so guests can ride the historic White Pass Railway. This railroad was built during the gold rush to take prospectors from the coast into the Yukon. The same rails and rail cars now will take you on a scenic ride up the mountains to the Canadian border and back. This is a must do when visiting this port!!
But don't skip the town!! This is a fun spot to take a stroll, do a little shopping and have a couple of unique experiences! First, you have to have a Klondike Doughboy!! This piece of fried dough covered in cinnamon and sugar is just delicious! And second, you must go to the Red Onion Saloon and have a Reindeer Fart! What the heck is that you ask??? It is a delicious layered shot made of Kahlua, Bailey’s and peppermint schnapps... it's so good!

Alaska is my dream vacation. But due to how expensive it is, I know I will never be able to afford to go. So instead, I watch videos on RUclips about Alaska and people who visited Alaska. So thank you for posting this.

Thank you for the video. Skagway is one of my favourite ports. I have been several times. I use to work on one of the sister cruise lines and I have walked the entire length of the town. I have taken the White pass and Yukon railway a couple of times. The last time was in 2022. It was the first trip of the season. It was a beautiful day. There was lots of snow about half way up. This put a different view to the whole trip. I don’t know when I will do the trip again. But I would like to take the train all the way to lake Bennett.
Wait until winter. My husband and I lived in Fairbanks for 3 years. First winter it was -58 degrees. After I became acclimated, it was easier to tolerate, but it was still cold.

We did the train ride back in June, it was fantastic, we hung out at Klondike Brewing for a while, it was a great time
Just amazes me how Alaska gets in your soul. I have only spent a couple of days in Sitka but it was enough for me to fall in love and now that’s where I want to retire. ❤

We are planning a princess cruise to Alaska next season. Looking forward to it. Some friends took the train excursion two weeks ago & loved it.
It is amazing. And worth the trip. Living there well let’s put it this way . Our military friend in anchorage went trick r treat about 2weeks after your cruise to avoid chance of snow😊

I enjoyed the train video, there was a landslide so the train was canceled when we were in Alaska. We did go up on a bus but I’m sure it wasn’t as nice as the train!

We were on a cruise there last month. The seas were fine
I feel cheated, we were told o our itinerary that Skagway was closed for the season so they gave us Ketchikan, there were a lot of things we wanted to do in Skagway …I was on the ship the had lost an engine in July so our glacier cruise had a completely different itinerary by the time we went in mid September, it was my first cruise and I don’t think cruising is for me , I like more control over my itinerary, the videos are awesome, I love the content of this channel , my favorite thing now is the camper trips , ❤😊

Skagway did close temporarily due to a rock slide, but they were able to clear it and open the port. One dock is still out of use and that ship has to tender guests in.

Ah, I tried to book the train for my recent Skagway trip, but they were all sold out - hopefully next time, I'll be a bit more proactive and book in advance!
Bummer!! Check third party companies too as they have seats in addition to the cruise lines.
That looked a bit crowded and touristy but to be expected when a cruise ship in port, I'd imagine the best time to visit to avoid the crowds would be mid/late March or early/mid November or even mid winter if travel to is possible.
That doughboy looked a bit like a Nan bread but fried instead of baked in a Tandoor. I wonder if they sell them without all the coronary inducing sugar or a savoury one?

We did the inside passage and it was smooth sailing. Of coirse time of year and storms may make it rough.
