Lovebites played live tonight and last night. I couldn't go but talked to a music journo who went both nights and he said some industry people there were all abuzz. Fami sounded really good. About this song, Midori said she built it from a riff she worked out, and also said she did two versions, a thrash metal one with Mao, and a slightly lower BPM power metal one with Miyako, and they went with the thrash.

I heard the shows went really well. I am surprised they did not open those shows with "We Are The Resurrection". This song is a perfect opener. "Industry people" at the show? I wonder who they were. Lovebites needs distribution in the USA. Right now, all they have is Victor in Japan, and JPU in Europe.

@@TheCyberMantis He mentioned other journalists, people from Victor and also other labels such as Avex and Sony (the latter a mutual friend), venue booking managers and event producers, among others. Actually not a surprising turnout, considering a long-awaited, much-anticipated return from hiatus. Some of it was no doubt the Fami-effect. There's no single member of Lovebites better known in the industry than Fami (as young as she is), because of her pop connections, supporting a former popular boy-group vocalist, Junnosuke Taguchi, as she did, and being acquainted with Ado.

I’ve just posted this before watching. Was meant to be a short report on yesterday’s concert in Tokyo. I got carried away.
“This band is, hands down, the best group ever. Best musicians, best live act, best lead vocals, best front woman, best bassist, best drummer, best pianist, best percussionist, best individual guitarists, best guitar duo.
By best I mean best in every sphere. I’ll take Asami as the prime example. I was 10 feet directly in front of her. She radiates charm, passion, love, feeling, positivity, energy, compassion, power, grace, elegance, beauty and fun. That is absorbed by the audience, amplified, and returned, physically, emotionally and vocally. Thus begins a feedback loop.
There is, nor ever has been, a group with such awesome energy. Positive, uplifting, glorious energy.
There is, nor ever has been, a group that so blatantly enjoys what they do, and enjoys what it does to others.
They are perfect. - dictionary definition “having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be”
The word Lovebites ought now to replace the word perfect in the Oxford English Dictionary. And by definition it means that the description would now read. Lovebites dictionary definition “Lovebites”

@Rebirth and Death Metal and it’s replies like yours that is why I’m loving every minute of it. In Kyoto now, then Kure and Hiroshima to pay my respects before flying home next weekend. Beautiful country, gracious, charming, polite and helpful people. I love Japan.

thank you for your report, alek, especially your description of asamis magic. I feel the same about her and the band. and in a concert it has to be much stronger because of the loop.. although I don´t know you personally, I´m very happy for you. and hope they make it to europe.

    • @alekhidell
      @alekhidell Год назад +3

@@DmitryKDE it was recorded, and the set list was different each night (though with some common to both). But the band never mentioned it being recorded, which they did with HMND, and it was a kind of “retrospective” set. Only two Judgement Day tracks. The tour in the autumn will be much different I think. I think it will be released and I have a theory that it might be an online streaming release…but I’m really just guessing.

I knew you were going to be overwhelmed at the show. You are SO lucky. Wolfpack around the world wishes they were there too. Lovebites is going to have to start playing larger venues. From the beginning, I said Lovebites is the next Iron Maiden. They have the power to be bigger than Maiden. IF... they stay together and keep making music for the next 30 years! Glad to know they had cameras at the shows. We all expect a DVD/Blu-ray release later in the year!

It would be great if they performed the full album in studio like they did with Awakening From Abyss. I can't wait to watch Lovebites perform their new songs live.

As usual, Lovebites' music and your reaction to it has my "reaction-to-the-reaction-to-the-song" synapses all abuzz. I'll TRY not to go long. It's a powerful intro, choir/congregational-like in harmonic structure and direction. I'm glad that it returns at the end of the instrumental bridge, but I wish they had somehow incorporated it as the refrain. I don't know if Midori intended this paradox, but the refrain's descending line you like so much is based on a lament pattern, which feels odd in a song that references resurrection. To me that part of the song has a pre-chorus feeling, which initially made me expect a different chorus in the major mode after it. Also, there is an abrupt change of key from D Minor to C minor at the actual pre-chorus which I've adjusted to now but remember at first hearing that it seemed forced. I wonder if they needed to shift the song's key center down one whole step here so Asami didn't have to keep singing high f. This explains an even more abrupt key shift at the end of the refrain to the beginning of the riff sections. Again, my ears have accepted this as a "metal move." These "minor" matters leave me slightly wanting in a song that is otherwise brilliantly, written, played and powerfully opens this album. Miyako (I presume) sneaks a quick quote from Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse" at ~6:28 (in this video) -- the same melody Rush used in La Villa Strangiato ("Monsters" sections). She's so subtle with it, that it seems to flow right out of her solo and is easy to miss.
Sorry -- not nearly as brief as I had hoped. Cheers~

Midori has really upped the ante with her dive bombing/squealing. I am 99.99% it's her, just like in "Stand and Deliver". That isn't how Miyako plays.
This song. this album - so heavy, and I love it. They put their hearts and souls into their music, and they do it for us the fans. The musicianship collectively in this band is the best I've ever heard in metal, and no one can convince me otherwise. I'm not one to try to "protect" the past greats, and anything I say doesn't diminish in one bit what all the bands in metal have done over the decades.

Great very informative review. Since you are a drummer, you won't believe this. I have seen at least two UTube reactors said Haruna was boring. I guess their good drummers are drummers don't have to drum but do fancy but cheap drum solos.
