I laugh when he says they've been friends for years then tried dating.
When they cut to the scene, she asks him " so what do you do for fun?"

Alternately, I AM SO VERY THANKFUL, that Mr. Frank Allen is such a resourceful, quick-thinking man. In those situations (when enduring a violent assault against your life), it's very easy to get caught up in what you can't do. He did EXACTLY what was necessary. He had a laser-like focus on what he needed to accomplish. He didn't worry about the small stuff, nor worry about getting injured. He knew he needed to GET OUT OF THERE FAST, AND GET HELP--before his assailant could gain control of the situation!!! I'm sure his many decades of business acumen, helped him keep it together, in spite of the massive emotion of the moment...

Detectives first received tips that John Paul was in Montego Bay, Jamaica; however, he vanished before they could question him. In 2004, after the Unsolved Mysteries segment re-aired, a viewer recognized him as someone living in Fiji; he had since re-named the boat the Diamond Girl. However, because Fiji does not have an extradition treaty with the United States, authorities could do nothing. Since then, John Paul has been spotted in ports throughout Asia and Europe.
An acquaintance of John's was on his boat in while in Fiji in 2004 and was suspicious of him and his connections to Colleen. She managed to smuggle a laptop from the boat and give it to one of the detectives. It was later confirmed that the computer belonged to Colleen. Information on the computer helped the detectives determine how John Paul made some of the transactions with Colleen's account.
The last report that detectives have about John Paul's whereabouts was from 2009, when he and the boat were in Thailand. He intended to open a dive shop off the coast of Thailand. In 2011, John Paul reportedly sold the Diamond Girl. Colleen has never been located; John Paul is still considered a person of interest in the case. He has yet to return to the United States.
Paul is now seventy-nine-years-old and has brown/gray hair. He is still wanted for parole violation. Authorities still want to re-question him in regards to Colleen's disappearance.

I thought that at first, bit then I remembered this is Hood River and that it's a relatively small Oregon community. I'm from another small Oregon community and honestly, I could see a Sheriff doing this being well intentioned if they thought it was just an unattended death. My bfs father was elderly when he died at home, so it wouldn't have been considered suspicious to begin with, but I remember when the police came they were pretty casual about it all asking if the family wanted to keep a lock of his hair before he was taken etc. There was also a man I knew who shot himself, and right after they found him they notified me and then allowed me into his house to get his wife's phone number so I could contact her etc. There's no way they could have investigated it completely in that time, but they didn't really seem to consider maybe having a neighbor randomly search his house could mess with evidence. Tbf, I never questioned whether it could be anything but a suicide either, but I would have thought the police would be a bit more careful before letting someone in who wasn't family. 🤷‍♀️ I mean, they knew the wife and him had just separated but they hadn't met her so they didn't know whether it was amicable either. Felt so bad for his wife and kids 💔 She was very kind to me when she came back and even wanted to make sure I was okay when I was trying to check on her and the kids.

Is that standard operating procedure to burn potential evidence of a crime? Especially a murder? I have NEVER heard of something so bizarre for law enforcement to do. Suspects/criminals, yes. And it's generally done in an attempt to hopefully (for the criminal's sake) destroy any and all evidence. I'm not saying the sheriff is guilty. But his actions certainly don't give off "innocent" vibes either.
