Lyrics:
Along deserted avenues
Steam begins to rise
The figures primed and ready
Prepared for quick surprise
He's watchin' for a sign
His life is on the line
Dogs whine in the alleys
Smoke is on the wind
From deep inside its empty shell
A cathedral bell begins to toll
A storm begins to grow
Amidst the upturned burned-out cars
The challengers await
And in their fists clutch iron bars
With which to seal his fate
Across his chest is scabbards rest
The rows of throwing knives
Whose razor points in challenged tests
Have finished many lives
Now facing one another
The stand-off eats at time
Then all at once a silence falls
As the bell ceases its chime
Upon this sign the challengers
With shrieks and cries rush forth
The knives fly out like bullets
Upon their deadly course
Screams of pain and agony
Rent the silent air
Amidst the dying bodies
Blood runs everywhere
The figure stands expressionless
Impassive and alone
Unmoved by this victory
And the seeds of death he's sown
Sworn to avenge
Condemn to Hell
Tempt not the blade
All fear the Sentinel Видеоклипы
The sound, the lights, the stage, the looks, the hair... 80's metal is so awesome
And the demanding live performance that is better than the studio album recording.
@@antonlatukha5845Priest really was an OUTSTANDING live band!!!🤘🏻
@@Daddy53751 The best live band! The fuel for life tour is literally Alien like, I don't think people in that time realised how unreal and crazy live performance was let alone Priest. No live concert ever, then or now, took you to the land of the Metal future the way Priest did! They are forever the Metal gods.
Amen to that, my friend!!😄😁
They worked darn hard!
One of the very best vocal performances by Rob doing this song. Unbelievable voice. Metal God. Period.
Yup.
Nicolas11x12 English Yup. I think Tim did a pretty good job on the metal meltdown tour to. Tim ripper is probably the only other person who could come close to rob.
Nicolas11x12 English Agreed 110% !!! Halford was simply the best in his prime. No one touched his tone and vocal abilities. These performances from the “Fuel For Life” Tour are truly EPIC! 🤘😎🤘
Iron maidon
jeanpierre boucher. Judas Priest!
Rob at his absolute peak, that voice is flawless.
David marzolino
His look is astonishing.
....leatherjacket is just WOW!
--
Live performance is best.
The entire band at their peak. Looks like they are having a blast.
Its untouchable metal right here.
Yes. And unfortunately his other great peak of his voice was in year 2001, when he was out from Judas Priest, singing his solo álbum Resurrection (great álbum, it should have been a Priest album)
It's even better than the studio version.
This man has some vocal skills..unbelievable. People still debating who is the best heavy metal vocalist 🤣 His vocal techniques are out of this world. To sing this live as well as Rob does is amazeballs. Rob to me is a singer's singer.
Hell Yeah Rob is my favorite singer as well.
Thank you for saying it like that. We all love Bruce, Dio, Geoff Tate, and my guy Matt Barlow, they're all fucking amazing singers. But come on, we all have to admit Rob is number one, if you know literally anything about singing.
Absolutely agree. The most amazing Rock singer EVER. And the guitar players unsurpassable.
Rob or Ozzy.
@@daverichards9141 rob,I have to said it.Love Ozzy too
Judas Priest always treated its public with respect, giving 100%, with pure energy. That's why they are truly Metal Gods.
That's absolutely right! It doesn't matter if it's 86' or 18' - they always give 100%. I was at Woodstock - Pol'n'Rock Festival 2018, and it was awesome!
Thats right ivan,u got ur moneys worth,i saw the stones in 78,they sounded like feces and stunk the place up.
Iron maiden were also very energetic, both 2 of the top metal bands to come from this small island (: Sabbath too of course but bit different, slower.
I witnessed their performance this year at Masters of Rock festival and it was fabulous. Hope for another kickaz album next year
Também acho...super originais. ..metal clássico
I heard some fools saying Judas Priest is underrated. Are you kidding me? These guys practically invented the metal genre!
The metal genre was invented in the late 60s, at that time there was no trace of Judas Priest. The band didn't really take off until Glenn Tipton joined in 1974.. They contributed to shaping but did not invent the genre.
@@alphaorion6425 Judas Priest STARTED in the late 60's Dickface, and it would never have went the direction it went without them. Rob Halford put the studded leather in metal too, as a matter of fact.
Maybe you mean "overrated"... No, Judas is no overrated, not at all.
And, btw, you're right, their are a cornerstone of metal
@@alphaorion6425 Priest STARTED in the late 60s, Dingusface.
If anyone is wondering why KK Downing is wearing shades throughout most of this concert - he was poked in the eye socket by an incorrectly cut guitar string from one of his guitars that his tech handed him after restringing it. That eye swolled nearly shut. Ken decided to wear the glasses to hide his damaged eye and like a professional - he played on...
I bet that guitar tech felt like shit lol
Thanks for the back story! That's the stuff that makes rock roll!
Haha, thanks for sharing that. I was wondering!
Without having been told, I would have guessed he just wanted to look metal af.
Missed opportunity to wear a leather studded eye patch
I remember in school way back we were supposed to write a poem. A classmate handed in this song's entire lyrics.
Mat Setizar what did they say?
Mat Setizar i used alexander the great by maiden. Mr DiPota gave me a 64.....knew i didnt write it, but said good effort. He asked me a question that related to Alexander and i sat there singing the song in my head....of course it was not helpful.
lmao genius
bobm3434 - excellent stuff and hats off to you. My Mrs used Iron Maiden’s flight of Icarus for English literature class once. I wish I had done something like this in my school days.
Kyotaku82 my girlgriend at time ( daughtets mother) used Hide in your shell by Supertramp.....i tried to have her use. The trees by rush.....for a college thing.
I used Alexander the great.. for social studies.... copied lyrics almost in full. Mr Dipota told me i cheated. Than asked me a question that the sing did not Answer......
Even better than the studio version. I just love the way Rob sings 'Condemned to Hell' on this version.
Ryan Thompson Guitarist sworn to avenge
Ryan Thompson Guitarist I do too
EXAAAAAAAAAAAACTLY! MY THOUGHTS!!!
I love the drum rolls. They are tremendous.
Exactly
His vocal capability is without a match but also Halford may very well be one of the very best rock/metal frontmen ever. Amazing appearance, movements, energy on stage. He embodies the whole spirit of Judas Priest looking like he just got out of a 70's super fast motorcycle spaceship that destroys its enemies with huge energy cannons. Basically HE is the painkiller.
He was pretty awful live though. he is really struggling here. His pitch is all over the place on the midrange stuff.
Became a fan of Judas Priest in 2023. The shrieking vocals straight from hell and face-melting guitar solos have truly stood the test of time.
Big like bro..
It was ‘82 for me. Yeah, I’m old but still ROCK!!!🤯🔥
Same here. I can't belive what i missed until now. Like living under the rocks...
One of the best Priest tunes played to absolute perfection.
Rob Halford shredding air guitar to his dueling guitarists might be the coolest thing in the history of live Rock & Roll.
Totally
the most glorious duel guitars
What abouth Cacophony ! ! !
you sir get it lol most just dont like their 2 albums
KK and his red flying v are the reason I own one too! It's fun to play along with these guys and it still gets me off even after listening to Judas Priest for 40 plus years it never gets old...If it's too loud you're too old!!!
Iron Maiden was better at duel guitars.
Murray & Smith are better.
This is godlike, this performance is beyond the limitations
definitely
Catch yerself on mate. He's miming! 🤣
@@tedmac8049I saw this tour and Screaming for Vengeance before that, and his live performance from those tours was stunning.
@@Daddy53751 me too, Love Priest. Was taking the piss, as we say in the UK.
This is BY FAR the best live version of The Sentinel. CONDEMNED TO HELL!!!!
Judas Priest, will go down in history as the greatest metal band of all time. For the total package, no other band can match JP.
The way he looks down to reach the high pitch... that's skill. Naturally you're drawn to rise your head, but in that way you shorten your "bagpipe" and can't reach your peak. Masterful.
Rob was on 🔥 fire that night. Probably Greatest vocal performance ever.. SMH
Totally agree,z!
This certainly is one of Priest's best ever songs.
The Definition of Metal is Judas Priest.
AMEN..........IF YOU LOOK UP "HEAVY METAL" IN THE DICTIONARY, THERE SHOULD BE A PICTURE OF THE PRIEST!!!
HEAVY METAL
That is Maiden kids.
That's a weird way to spell iron maiden
They were in peak form here, brilliantly rehearsed, warmed up, well-oiled, utmostly professional. The voice is searing, the guitars are splendid and while many people criticize Dave Holland as their drummer (of course I rank Les Binks extremely high),
you must admit he is spotless here, focused, precise, with great drum sound and consumate team player attitude.
Rob conducting the 2 guitar players - just great!!
This is by far Robs masterpiece, without any question - and also the bands golden age. Rob does everything right, his voice is flawless, utter perfection. I've got most of the Priests live DvD's and watched them many times over the years, but when it comes to this one, this song, at this tour in Dallas, I get the chills and goosebumps every fucking time.
Where do you buy dallas concert dvd?
Maybe try searching online or your local record store
@@igli083 it's on a DVD called Electric eye.
One of the most underrated songs, guitar is smashing…..🤘
Happy Birthday #71 to The Sentinel of Heavy Metal! THE METAL GOD!
Halford basically making every ear his bitch !
His vocal performance is perfect.
What a amazing frontman Rob Halford is. Stunning performance!
This is by far the most awesome live performance of Judas Priest. Halford at his peak, flawless. So much power at 4:45
Best metal song and band in history - period.
No🤣
Yes, quite possibly.
Rob Halford is one of the all time best vocalist in Metal. Fucking Awesome vocal performance. His is no falsetto. It is true and pure heavy metal.
The best vocals in the history of metal is geoff tate
What's wrong with falsetto?
no seriously his range is just that huge, like Bono's back then as well. I doubt even Bono could pull off "Red Hill Mining Town" now that's like everyone's worst nightmare at the karaoke bar
Lol he uses a lot of falsetto. Full voice singers are Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio.
@@rohantiwari7801 This. A LOT of Rob's voice is falsetto. He still has great range outside of falsetto, but him and King Diamond both rely a lot on falsetto. Bruce, Michael Kiske, and RJD are indeed the great full-voice singers in rock/metal.
The baddest ass moment in metal history is when he first turns to camera and tears into "sworn to avenge" I mean,God damn
The "Condemned to Hell" scream here is so insane! Better than ever! Never sounded more epic that in '86
Whet I love about metal is the sense of grandeur, drama, and fantasy. It's the soundtrack of all things epic and badass.
Expressionist ❤❤❤
One of the greatest vocalists and bands of all time. I saw them Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the faith. Lucky me!
i saw defenders, turbo, ram it down all awesomeness
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 I don’t think there were or are many bands that can match them for live shows.
@@Daddy53751 one or two were close....metallica's "justice tour " with openers "queensryche" who kicked massive ass
and dio,on the sacred heart tour ..had 3rd row golds for that one, life changing having dio sing to me 4-5 feet away.
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 I did see “Ride the lightning” tour in a nightclub,
Which is pretty far up on my list of the shows I’ve seen.
“Number of the beast” was amazing as well.
(They opened for Scorpions on “Blackout”)
Rob performed absolute PERFECT
35 years passed after Golden Age of heavy metal, but this song still touch my soul! That was a beginning of my long way with Metal still I keep walking!))
Immortal metal song.
Rob is really the voice of Heavy Metal, Metal God. 🎤
Glenn has always overshadowed KK with good reason, he is so technically proficient and his solo are so effortless. Glenn is the driving force of Priest with Halford 🤘
KK is a great guitarist too, I actually prefer him over Glenn.
masters of the metal!!!
I've been drumming since 1969, and my best friend turned me on to "Unleashed in the east", it was like unreal, I didn't realize what true heavy metal was, oh my god, Rob Halford in those days, was insane
Priest wrote some of the best solos in metal.
0:36 The way Rob goes back and KK and Glenn entered is just brutal
They will be always the best
When your live performance sounds as good or better then the album recording........nobody can do this today. Not one modern band or artist has enough talent to perform live and still sound this good!
Just Heavy Metal bands can do that...
Iron Maiden regularly exceeds their albums in their live shows.
Of course this isn't the sound that the audience heard during the concert. This recording was definitely polished up a bit in the studio before being released. It's standard practice. It's even likely they used recordings from several concerts.
@@MrLBPug was trying to see if anyone would say this. Halford is amazing but no way in hell did he ever sing a live song this clean. No one could.
@@MrLBPug ive seen 5-6 priest tours (before, during and after this one)......they excel live and sound better than studio EVERY FUCKING TIME
I was 7yrs old when this happened and i will forever be jealous to all those who witnessed this incredible event. This is one of the best concerts ever. Mind-boggling performance.
Judas Priest Twin Leads = Forever Unmatched
Got that right
The peak performane of live heavy music. It takes Halford 15 seconds of singing to find his place, after that it is absolutely mind blowing.
glad! i saw priest in eighties!;-) extremely tight band! one of the truly best!!!;-)
You remember that too? They were tight as hell live I saw them too back in the day. I remember that shit no lip sync, just straight up in your face loud as hell exactly in key and right on time. Plus remember Rob's voice back then live? He could peel the paint off the ceiling he could sing so high.
I saw them last year. Halford.still.has truly amazing voice!
Not one of! They ARE the best!
Yep seen them in 88 🤘
This is where Judas Priest is untouchable. I'd like to see any band top this performance
Maiden...
Rob Halford and Axl Rose could put on a hell of a show
Gerardo Sánchez nahhh
Iron Maiden have done it better multiple times.
@@rohantiwari7801 Maiden is shit compared to Priest, sorry.
One of the best ever live bands on the f****** planet
Rob Halford- Vocal Nuclear Weapon!!!
hands down one of the most epic guitar intros to any metal song
Класс! Одно из самых лучших выступлений. Драйв, огонь, мотоцикл, звуки перегруза и пронзительный вокал. Всё что нужно и ничего лишнего!
This was probably the best performance of any Heavy Metal Group ever, they were on fire!
When your guitarist has cruise control stunners on his face. You know your about to be sent into another dimension
The titan at work.
That squeaky sound in Glenn's solos anyone else noticed Glenn's got magic 💖
I wish this Rob Halford would live forever. Best singer ever.
Seeing Rob on stage on his Harley revving the engine in 86 is still my favorite heavy metal memory.
Real metal as it should be done
Definitely my favorite song on "Defenders of the Faith". From 1984.
Potentially my favourite Priest song!
Like many great vocalists, you'd never guess that could come out of his mouth given his speaking voice. I know the debates rage as to who is the greatest Metal vocalist of all-time, and Dio, Dickinson, Tate and others are definitely in that conversation. However, Rob Halford is the last word. Hands down, my metal friends. Rob Halford is the greatest metal vocalist of all time.
They are all great, but only mortals. Halford is the G.O.A.T. because he's a god. The metal god.
Who the hell doubts this? Probably someone who hasn't heard him sing
Yeah, Halford does have quite a low-set speaking voice for a tenor.
Loved the fuel for life tour great vhs when it came out, many years ago
Speechless
So cool no words can describe this
The Sentinel is JP at its f'ing finest!!!
Best
Live
Solo

Just look at them, Rob between the guitars like a crazy man. And they play the guitar like Gods, because that's what they are
I am speechless. So much raw power.. Metal Gods!
masterpiece!
best metal fucking song
The part at 4:30 to 5:10 is the best blowing energy in whole HMR's history!
god damn, this song is so fucking good!!!!
Allow me to act mature here...

truly the metal gods
I love from 2:15 Glenn and KK in tandem work that riff together at full pace, listen to them go!
I don't see enough talk about how perfect that "The figure stands *expressionless*" was
Those solos are incredible , I’ve always really loved this clip, the out fits and style blow my mind, the energy and body movements , that solo is phenomenal, I always thought of it as a great guitar duel expressing them selves through that solo, wondering what it really means
The best live band ever and the best guitar Duo ever! The fuel for life tour is literally Alien like Rob is a God! I don't think people in that time realised how unreal and crazy live performance was let alone Priest. No live concert ever, then or now, took you to the land of the Metal future the way Priest did! They are forever the Metal gods.
This is Judas Priest's "it" in time. Pinnacle.
When they write the definitive encyclopedia of Metal this should be the track for Timeless.
Freaking amazing band. This is incredible performance. The best heavy metal band in the history of music.
I like Maiden too, but in my opinion JP>>>IM
Maiden, JP and Black Sabbath with Dio ruled the 80s in metal, in my opinion. Each of them very unique and trendsetting in their own way - plus excellent live performances.
@822勃大大 not at all
Priest is still the best
Firepower kills every maiden album after 2000
Judas Is the best!!
@@downshifter2730 Yeah, but Priest made a few duds in there too
Priest and Black Sabbath are the best and the originals of true Heavy Metal. The first 2 bands to really embrace being referred to as "Heavy Metal"...back then it was an insult and no band wanted to be considered Heavy Metal, every band I have seen answers the "What kind of band are you?" question with "We're just a Rock N Roll band". I admire that about them.
Love Judas Priest ... epic band from epic times ... omg! Doesn't get any better than this!
All time signature Priest Riffs on display with the Sentinel. Sure glad I got to see these gents live. Up front and Fists Up!!
Unreal, incredible voice, salute
This is by far the best metal song we ever had. Greetings from Malaysia.
I was always amazed by Ian Hill's bass guitar sound. Its very specific and here its very well distinguished, you cant miss it: listen to 3:55. In RUclips, the half of it is lost, but you can just imagine what it was, during that live. There was no metal before Defenders of the Faith, nor later, where a bass guitar sounded like that. Of course it depends on how the track is written, its overall build-up, but here its sounding just "monumental", absolutely mind-blowing. Btw, Judas Priest was initiated, established by Ian Hill.
How bold is Rob running, singing, jumping, moving through the stage. Great performance
Heavy metal at his peak, that sharp sound, legendary.
Quiet kids. The Priest is in session
HEAR HEAR!
All Hear!
Gotta Love the Leather. Man his Jacket's are just fantastic
The screamin of Power... Priest 4 ever❤😊

это самая любимая песня для меня!!!! Роберт - это лучшая твоя вокальная форма!!!! я был в Москве в 2012 году на последнем концерте в России. И надеюсь, что он не последний!!!!!!
The Metal Gods at their divine best!!
There are and have been many great metal vocalists. However, to me there is no debate. Rob Halford is the true metal god and the best metal vocalist of all time. His range, energy are pure power and his ability to do that live is astounding.
I know its been ages since this was both recorded and posted ... but by gods ... Halfords voice and this song. OMG
