Back then, I was always a Mario guy. Then I played Sonic Rush for the first time, my first Sonic title, and my god the sense of speed in that game is insane, I later got Sonic Unleashed for my PS3, and it somehow surpassed that. SEGA is still going strong today not as a video game creator, but as a publisher. Since SEGA owns Atlus, they own the Persona and SMT franchises, which are super big in their own rights. And ofc, they own the Yakuza series, another big hit. Nintendo is still the giant they still are though, the Switch asserting its dominance with it being hard to find PS5's. Plus, the uniqueness of playing a console game on the go is revolutionary, even today. I will definitely, these two companies will stay relevant for a very long time
I love both Mario and Sonic. I never had a favorite between the two, just frustration that Sega decided not to give Sonic the best treatment possible. Heck, I like seeing them work together and I want more games like that.
I wish they’d make a Sonic and Mario 3D plat-former crossover game. It could be set up like SA2 where each character goes through a similar stage but using their own move set and they’re trying to fight each other, but end up teaming up.
Or maybe even a 2D platformer with a pair-up mechanic, making the player able to use Sonic's speed or Mario's precise platforming and variety of abilities!

I can barely remember how my mind was BLOWN when I heard Mario and Sonic had games together (when I was a toddler) and I'm grateful that their early rivalry became a long lasting relationship over the years. This was such a well made video!!! Thank you.
I've been a fan of both franchises to this day. While I have my issues with both of them for different reasons, they both have always shared the top spot as my favorite franchise. Seeing any nod to the rivalry just puts a smile on my face, whether officially (Olympic Games) or unofficially (SMBZ). Also that Olympic trailer still gives me goosebumps to this day. This applies to Pokemon and Digimon as well . . .
im a giant fan of both series and seeing both characters grow and change with each other and having sonic basically stop a huge monopoly from forming is something we genuinely do not appreciate enough
You should read The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers. Seems "a certain rival of Nintendo" went to the process of getting the Yakuza kidnap a Jap dev's sibling to prevent them from working with Nintendo. It's not far fetched: a lot of Jap arcade game developers had to cooperate with the Yakuza as they run the gambling and arcade areas of Japan.
The battle between Nintendo and Sega in the 1990s is a tale as old as time itself... if time began in the 1990s, anyway. Excellent work on this. I just love the snappy editing, and this video does a great job at showing how Mario and Sonic's relationship has evolved since they first met!
Definitely the Olympic Games were my breaking point to be in love not only with the series but also those two as best friends. I've used to be a HUGE Mario fan more than Sonic even when I've played some Sonic games back in the day (Sonic 2, SA2, etc...) yet, when I've started to play more and more Sonic (Sonic Unleashed) I've started to fall for the Blue Blur himself and then started to day dream about Mario and Sonic being besties and equals in many ways, then the Olympics Games happened and then my love for both became an unhealthy obsession for seeing more Mario and Sonic sharing games. Nowadays, I'm the CEO of #TeamMarionic aka Mario and Sonic's duo name whenever they're together as a team, working together, being dorks and doing goofs together. I love their bromance a ton, and I definitely see them as best friends/bros no matter what Nintendo or Sega do. I even created a community where everyone shares their love for the plumber and the hedgehog being good friends with some cute rivalry for fun. I wish besides the TOGs (The Olympics Games) we could have either an RPG or a platformer with both. It would be amazing.
I dont really think Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is Sega’s desperate act, but Nintendo’s pity that their all time rival is about to reach to its end after Sonic 06 happened, to the point where fans have absolute NO faith on Sega since that chaotic moment. Nintendo gave Sega another chance to get back in the spotlight, and I think at that point is where Sega has truly respect Nintendo and sees them as friendly rivals without having to punch it in the gut. Nintendo was pretty much merciful. And to add more positivity, Nintendo was gonna introduce Sonic as the first non Nintendo character in Super Smash Bros Melee, but thats been scrapped off and instead have him in Brawl. Nintendo has always respected Sega even back then, just tend to give jabs after taken some from Sega. Like brothers who would fight but in the end are in good terms as they show to care for each other. Thats how Nintendo and Sega are.
When it comes to newer games, I play Mario. When it comes to a nostalgia trip when I want to hit the classics, I play Sonic. Both have a special place in my heart and I will cherish them forever.
I’m both a Mario and Sonic fan so it just makes me happy the mascots are friends and stuff. Like the companies will always compete or whatever, but if these two were real, they wouldn’t do the same.
So true, if they were actually acting in-character they would most definitely get along, their whole "we're the mascot of these huge gaming companies" aside.
I love this analysis! And I love Sonic games! I respect Mario for all his story (in gaming I mean), and being able to watch them be friends like this really makes me drop a smile. Good job on the video man
Yeah, I missed the times in the '90s in the Console Wars when Mario, Sonic, and especially their SNES/Genesis consoles competed so intensely to create the greatest gaming generation and lasted throughout the decade. It calmed down in the Gamecube era, but AS SOON Mario and Sonic and Olympic Games came out on the Wii, I was SHOCKED. That was something I never thought would happen. It's crazy Mario and Sonic are friends now. I guess Nintendo and Sega grew tired of them going at each other so hard.
It's funny how you describe Sonic being the hip new trend during the 90s because back when I was in 5th grade, I got made fun of for having a Sonic The Hedgehog wallpaper by the same kids who would bring their 3DS's to play Mario together. How much the times have changed.
I grew up loving both Mario and Sonic so It was never difficult for me to pick sides, both have great games and some flops. But, at the end of the day they stood the testimate of time and are super recognizable.
Honestly I enjoyed sonic 06 as a younger kid, it was fun while also having multiple characters fun bosses and cool puzzles it holds a place in my heart that hasn’t been replaced to this day. It was my first sonic game and one of my first experiences in video games.
Seeing Mario and Sonic come together in a video game was the equivalent of seeing Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny together in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?! Although, speaking of Mickey, it’s surprising Mario hasn’t gotten a chance to cross over with him and his universe. Seeing the relationship between Disney and Nintendo throughout the decades would be fascinating, from the licensed Disney Hanafuda cards to Sora from Kingdom Hearts being included in Smash Bros.
Oh, my friend, listen up. Time to speak the truth: Sega and Nintendo are just a couple of joke companies that can't hold a candle to the pure goodness of Disney. I wish that in the PlayStation Invasion era, Nintendo and Sega would team up to make a Mario and Sonic Crossover (not The Olympics) so good, Sony wouldn’t bother to try and beat the two.
I do like both the Sonic & Mario Series(s)/Franchises including others too, but either way all of them all good too, so it just goes to show that these days we don't need to complete (if/if not necessary) anymore just because that having fun is the main importance/speedruns, just to keep it all together, you just got to get along with it and have fun, anyways I Am Outta Here!!!

I love how Sonic was made to be better than Mario in every way, But being better or not, Sonic wouldn't exist if it weren't for Mario. Just think about it: Is Mario slow? Sonic no, Do goombas frustrate you for being simple? There you have the motobugs, Is Mario too childish for you? Sonic was promoted as the game of the coolest and most adolescent children, also, Sonic blue color is for two reasons: 1.- It is the opposite of Mario's red 2.- It is the world's favorite color, so more acceptance And this just made Mario's standards even better! That as a consequence it also raised Sonic's standards, if you ask me it's one of the healthiest rivalries currently!
I like how with almost every Sonic related game review, they mention the “small blunder” that is Sonic 06. For some reason it always cracks me up because it’s seen as an awkward speed bump to a lot who come across it
11:36 Nah, I'd argue the opposite Sega going 3rd party and Sonic going multi plat was one of the worst things to happen to them both. Multiple platforms doesn't automatically mean more sales (The Wonderful 101 says hi) and going 3rd party means there is less incentive to make your games higher quality. When you're a platform holder your 1st party games can't just be alright they have to be so good that people will also get your hardware just to play them, there is also the correlation of Sonic games arguably getting worse ever since Sega went 3rd party. For the Industry as a whole, less platforms means less competition as well.
True though considering how the impact the ps2 made and how bad the GC got beat it would've been better than trying keep the Dreamcast going. Reason being is that outside of Sonic Adventure 2 which had a hellish development process but not as bad as Sonic Adventure 1 which was kinda a "do or die" situation most of the funds were going towards Phantasy Star Online which's servers (on japans side) was being paid out of the Sega Presidents pockets before he died. For ambitious as Sega is, they werent really that good on making good decisions and despite getting it right with the Dreamcast it was far too late. So even if they didn't go multiplatform at least up until the ps3/360/wii era they possibly wouldve been bankrupt by then due to low trust from consumers and Sony's influence(and thats not going over the impact GTA 3 had over the entire demographic even though Shenmue technically went into that territory). So in this case it was for the best they did step out of the console.
I like to think Mario and Sonic's relationship canonically grew out of their petty rivalry. They grew older and more mature as the years went by.

@@secondbestjojo1300 I do agree that sonic had a dark age, but when you think about it, 06 and the story book series were his only “bad games”. Sure, some games in the future are mediocre, but not bad by any means
Instead of the chaos emeralds i'd imagine they'd use the phantom ruby. Chaos emeralds nowhere to be seen int he story cause at this point theyre as collectable as standard rocks.

I will definitely, these two companies will stay relevant for a very long time
underrated channel, i'll love to see this channel grow!
Same
absolutely!
I love both Mario and Sonic. I never had a favorite between the two, just frustration that Sega decided not to give Sonic the best treatment possible. Heck, I like seeing them work together and I want more games like that.
Seeing them together on good terms is so wholesome it almost brings a tear to the eye.
I wish they’d make a Sonic and Mario 3D plat-former crossover game. It could be set up like SA2 where each character goes through a similar stage but using their own move set and they’re trying to fight each other, but end up teaming up.
I wish.
😊❤💙
Or like Sonic Generations where you have Sonic sections and Mario sections
Or maybe even a 2D platformer with a pair-up mechanic, making the player able to use Sonic's speed or Mario's precise platforming and variety of abilities!
@@mrgreenboy644 or make it like Mario Odyssey where they are 2D and 3D sections.
That’s dumb
I haven't played the most recent Sonic and Mario Olympic Games but those first games were actually pretty good.
Mario & Sonic 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics is my favorite

Why hello there.
Ugh i wabt to play the first 2 games TwT
watching this video makes me want to see a proper mario sonic crossover game thats a platformer or some kind of proper adventure for both of them. hell you could even have part of the story being that mario and sonic dont get along at first but then they eventually team up become friends and stop the bad guys who they were unable to stop alone
They both really went through the Zuko and Aang development.
This video got me right in the feels. I really do enjoy seeing how Sonic and Mario get along now.
I can barely remember how my mind was BLOWN when I heard Mario and Sonic had games together (when I was a toddler) and I'm grateful that their early rivalry became a long lasting relationship over the years. This was such a well made video!!! Thank you.
as i get older i really appreciate youtube content like this people don’t understand the time that goes into these things
This applies to Pokemon and Digimon as well . . .
Another SMBZ fan I see.
Sonic and Mario will always be two iconic characters. They lived then, they live now, and they will live forever for new games to come ✊🏾
I guess you cab say that they................ lived and learned.
im a giant fan of both series and seeing both characters grow and change with each other and having sonic basically stop a huge monopoly from forming is something we genuinely do not appreciate enough
Old days: Sonic trying to destroy mario and his house (Nintendo Console)
Now days: Sonic live inside mario house and become a roomate
You just started your channel and you’re *ALREADY* making killer content
Keep up the good work.
I Also Made A Hashtag Called #NotRivalsAnymore

Well the voice actors of both Mario and Sonic are friends in real life so…
Yeah exactly

Mario & Sonic have been good friends since Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Vancouver 2010. They’re better as friends and not rivals.
I Agree
It’s just like Thomas & Friends on how steamies and diesels get along and better as allies.
Sonic: I'm Mario's ultimate rival!
Luigi: Hold my even more toxic fanbase.
Its painful to see that you dont have 1 millions subs, you are so underrated. You deserve so much more than this
I'm glad that Sonic and Mario now get along better, as they are my two favorite video game characters (other than DK)
Let's hope they can do that again...
this was a fantastically well written and edited video, im very shocked you arent more popular, you deserve it

So true, if they were actually acting in-character they would most definitely get along, their whole "we're the mascot of these huge gaming companies" aside.
this channel had grown real fast I'm impressed! and the content you make is very enjoyable to watch
Remember when the earlier nintendo office had a sonic plush hanging, saying “will run for food”
11:14 can you imagine what mario games would be like if nintendo kept that design?
For a new channel, this is very high quality stuff
for those who dont know, the scenes with the tv and room with the posters and consoles and games and all come from a game called "emuvr"
Your videos are REALLY good, Keep it up :) 👍
It's funny how you describe Sonic being the hip new trend during the 90s because back when I was in 5th grade, I got made fun of for having a Sonic The Hedgehog wallpaper by the same kids who would bring their 3DS's to play Mario together.
It was my first sonic game and one of my first experiences in video games.
mario and sonic have the type of relationship where if people see them become friends and make peace with eachother they force them to fight
5:36 Playstation Invasion.
I never thought of it that why but now it makes sense.
Hey mon, this is awesome. I’m really thankful I discovered this channel, let’s hope to see you grow even further!
I like to think that Mario and sonic canonically don’t hate each other they were just forced to
Oh, my friend, listen up. Time to speak the truth: Sega and Nintendo are just a couple of joke companies that can't hold a candle to the pure goodness of Disney. They're downright evil in their attempts to compete with the mouse. But let's be real, they'll never reach Disney's level. So, toss away those console controllers and embrace the true empire: Disney. Mario and Sonic’s rivalry is the video game equivalent to Woody and Buzz’s rivalry.
And also equivalent to Thomas and Diesel’s rivalry of Thomas & Friends.
Imagine is Sonic and Mario had their own movie together. I know the Sonic The Hedgehog movies are from Paramount and the upcoming Mario movie is from Universal Pictures, I would really love to see these two characters team up in a feature-length film.
As a fan of mario, I was introduced to sonic via smash brawl back in 2008. And that's how I got into the blue hedgehog, and I hope sonic frontiers will be the game that can turn the tide. Cause this is there last chance as it's now or never.
11:01 interestingly Sonic got younger as he was 16 until Sonic Adventure
Fighting a bloodthirsty Mecha Sonic on that island must've been hard for them ☠️
I totally agree with this just like how master Wu said on ninjago “The best way to defeat your enemy is to make him your friend”

I wish that in the PlayStation Invasion era, Nintendo and Sega would team up to make a Mario and Sonic Crossover (not The Olympics) so good,

That would’ve been hilarious and biggest backfire to Sony in gaming history.

Just think about it:
Is Mario slow? Sonic no, Do goombas frustrate you for being simple? There you have the motobugs, Is Mario too childish for you? Sonic was promoted as the game of the coolest and most adolescent children, also, Sonic blue color is for two reasons:
1.- It is the opposite of Mario's red
2.- It is the world's favorite color, so more acceptance
And this just made Mario's standards even better! That as a consequence it also raised Sonic's standards, if you ask me it's one of the healthiest rivalries currently!
No the opposite of red is green

I love your use of the virtual room to present your videos. Keep it up!
Love the videos! This is the kind of quality I want. Definitely subscribed. Can’t wait for more sonic videos.
