    • @andybrice2711
      @andybrice2711 Месяц назад +2

      You start by listening to them, and learning what they really believe, so you can model the way they think. Then you learn which parts of their belief system are truly insane. And which parts have some merit. You use your newfound understanding to make better versions of their good arguments, and more effectively pick apart their bad arguments. Over time, most people will move towards this more reasonable position. One you can compromise and coexist with. (Though there will always be some who are fundamentally unreasonable.)

      Well isn't that the problem? The Labour party in particular decided in the 80s that they weren't going to be discussing working class issues with working-class people. They stopped listening and talking. Now they've lost the art of discussing things properly because they can't talk to all voters as equals. It doesn't matter if you want to be a bit sniffy about who you talk to. Those people are in the streets because this is their country, just as much as it's yours.

      According to the Centre for Cities Sunderland has received the smallest increase in migrants of English cities.
      Since 2011 the percentage of Sunderland residents who were not born in the UK has risen from 4% of the population to 5%.
      As of the 2021 census there were 275,000 people living in Sunderland. 5% of that is 13,750, the 1% increase since 2011 being 2,750.

    The problem is if anybody says that they are against immigration they are labelled as racist and far right. In this piece the presenter has labelled Farage as far right but she cannot articulate why he is far right other than saying he is anti immigration. The other problem is all governments have been dishonest about the levels of immigration. During the Brexit debates the government stated that there were 1 million EU people living in the UK. When they had to register to remain in the UK it turned out there were many times that number. The conservatives were prevented from pursuing their policies and allowed 750,000 immigrants to enter the UK in a single year. Labour have only been in power for a matter of weeks and they have scrapped the Rwanda scheme, closed the immigration detention centres and announced an effective amnesty for asylum seekers. These actions have been a catalyst for these riots as much as the tragic murders in Southport. Burning and looting shops, throwing stones at the police and mosques does not help stop the immigration we are currently seeing. The Labour Party needs to address this issue with some credible policies to completely stop ALL immigration. If not I fear that people will be pushed to the extremes. We need to make it clear to immigrants that they not only need to integrate into our society, they need to assimilate. The Muslims have voted in several MP’s who support terrorists who promote genocide in the form of HAMAS. This was not a good sign of things to come.

    • @lorrainemoynehan6791
      @lorrainemoynehan6791 Месяц назад +2

      the Rwanda scheme. yes it has been aborted. Are you aware that part of the scheme required that we took Rwandan political prisoners in return? So a one-in-out making no difference to the numbers. Secondly, the asylum seekers would be processed in Rwanda, those who were granted asylum would remain in Rwanda. Those deemed not needing asylum would be returned to the country they arrived from ie THEY WOULD BE RETURNED TO THE UK. and I'm not going to mention the cost. How was this ever going to resolve the problem?

  • @diaamuharam6602
    @diaamuharam6602 Месяц назад +45

    I'm from foreign & Muslim orgin myself however i understand the anger.
    Asylum seekers & migrants take low skilled jobs from low skilled English citizens, and they contribute to lowering woking conditions, including wages, by accepting any working conditions.That is the real problem, or that is what they think is the real problem, and the crime rate may be higher among people from foreign origins as well.
    So until the government does something to solve these issues, part of the population would continue to feel upset about it.
    I don’t like far-right, I don’t like their hatred but stereotyping all the upset people that they are only far-right will not help.

      OK, 750,000 work visas issued last year.
      38,000 asylum seekers last year.
      So the asylum numbers are less than 5% of the migration figures for last year.
      I would suggest that the evidence shows its not asylum seekers taking jobs, but work visas being issued for sectors which need workers.
      To the OP, while it's indeed wise to tackle legitimate underlying economic concerns, thats not the reason people are attacking mosques. Those attacking mosques are white supremacists who hate Islam and would round you up and deport you in a heartbeat.

    Why is Nigel Farage wrong to say Sunderland has been “ invaded” when it clearly has? The United Kingdom has, and is being invaded by people from different continents and cultures, at odds with our culture of Western civilisation. Just as the islands of Britain were invaded by the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons, the Vikings and the Normans. Luckily, probably after years or decades, the newcomers and those already living in the lands assimilated, to varying degrees. But what is happening now is happening too quickly and the newcomers have no desire or plan to assimilate. To my mind they wish to retain their own culture and practices 100%, to dominate and replace us and to take over!😬🇬🇧❤️❤️

    Starmer is between a rock and a hard place as there is no magic bullet to fix the migration crisis. Even if the boats were stopped today and there was a total freeze on legal migration, the demographic change that has taken place already in the UK cannot be reversed but only slowed. The figure of 685,000 which is often quoted for last year's net migration also needs some clarification. Net migration is the difference between immigration and emigration. Immigration into the UK over the recent years was driven by an increase in mostly non-EU citizens. The majority of the increase in non-EU arrivals from 2019 to 2023 occurred through the work and study routes, with health and care as the main industry driving the growth in work migration. In 2023 approximately 1.2 million people entered the country whereas around 532,000 left, 98,000 of whom were British citizens, 202,000 were EU citizens, and a further 233,000 were non-EU citizens. Of the 1.2 million entering a vast majority were from third world countries. So the actual number of non-European immigration which seems to cause the most reseentment is a lot higher than the net figure of 685,000. This has been going on for years.

    Illegal immigration is not ok - absolutely right. This is why everything is kicking off. People have had enough. The immigration policy - legal and illegal - needs to be changed as soon as possible.

    Those ‘beliefs’ (04:59) have to be articulated coherently. And if they are shown to be false then those who entertain them have to modify their thoughts and behaviour accordingly.
    This idea of opening up a dialogue , whilst prima facie laudable, is heavily constrained. It is not clear to me that the rioters are amenable to that kind of engagement.
    Macron infamously said the day after beating Hollande, ‘Ce n’est pas la rue qui décide”. It would be an error to think Macron was being anti-democratic.

    The point about 'reigning in language' aka shutting up, is so jarring to listen to. They have literally just been having a conversation about people not being able to express themselves and their supressed resentment and this is almost as it the interviewer has been outside the room for the rest of the interview. The likes of Suella Braverman and Farage provide a vent to air the ideas of people who disagree with mass migration. We are not being somehow riled up by them, they are just stating facts that we all can clearly see. This kind of infantilization is exactly why people feel disconnected with the 'elite political class' as referenced earlier in the interview.

    KS rightfully doesn’t believe in engaging just for the sake of it. The excessive migration issue will be solved by Labour. The discussion about it is what the other party did and yet showed absolutely no results in 14 years. Pitiful. Why’s this foreign woman musing on issues in our country. I think it’s time for KS to actually call in the army, Theres a lot of other more important work to be done.

    We come from Bradford, but I’ve lived in Australia most of my life.
    One perception I have fo the UK can be summed up with the very British phrase ‘hurty words’. The fact Police will turn up at a persons doorstep for unpopular opinions is concerning. Outright racism or threats I can understand.
    The uneven suppression of ‘thought’ for fear of Police intervention would have to create a simmering of hostility.
    I’m not there though, so I can only work on what I hear and see.

    I think we can all agree rioting and causing damage is not acceptable BUT Starmer, Cooper and the whole Labour needs calling out by the media regardless of being left or right politically. As soon as he finished his speech, I knew he'd made a huge error of judgement, as to how angry millions feel in Britain. As prime minister, who's been elected on a minority vote, who is over represented in mp numbers in parliament, you are seen as a glass house majority party. 80% of eligible voters didn't vote for Labour. He said nothing about what went on in Leeds. Laid flowers and as prime minister made no attempt to talk to the crowd. Personally the Conservatives, Lib dems, Greens and Reformuk should call a vote of no confidence in Labour and even though they won't win. It'll make it perfectly clear Labour is on thin ice. I actually think, unless he comes out and apologises. Things will get worse.

    Please stop talking about the political class. As much as the middle-class want to believe that their point of view is more relevant, no body listens to the middle-class- and why should they? Politicians have to convince voters rather than coercing. Voters need representative Government. We need Proportional Representation. That's the only way to give every voter a stake in their society.
