- “No wonder these people are rioting… It’s because of 15 years of austerity.”
Austerity is the underlying cause of the anger behind the riots which have broken out across the UK, says Clive Lewis MP.

I don't believe politicians are that out of touch - they HAVE to be lying. They KNOW why people are unhappy.
They know exactly what they are told to do by Barbara Lerner Spectre and her ilk.
Look her up if you dont know about her.
oppressors do not care what the skin color of the oppressed are. They just need their votes.
The government does, but has only been in power for three weeks. They have so much of what the Tories did to change. The riots have only delayed what the government is here to do.
@@rafd3593 The government has refused to remove the third child cap despite every charity saying it is responsible for thousands of children starving. The govt says they can't afford it. No wonder so many are feeling abandoned.
all the immigratiion
Austerity. Uncontrolled immigration. Two tiered policing. . Ignorance and arrogance in Parliament has caused this
The problem with your comment is that only austerity and Ignorance/arrogance in Parliament actually exist. Neither uncontrolled immigration or two tiered policing do. Are you always paranoid and delusional?
Utter stupidity caused riots. Nothing else.
Interesting how this phrase is now being bandied about as if it actually means sonmething and to make you look as if you are politically lliterate and actually know what you are talking about.
@annishilcock4587 and yet instead of making a reasonable argument in a respectful manner you'd rather respond with a snobby sneering response. You're part of the problem of the discourse in this country
@@lewis123417 My argument was very reasonable....Two tier policing is the new trope...it means nothing but everyone has latched on to it ans is repeating it as if it does, and it was perfectly respectable because it was a general observation where as yours suggetsing I am a snob is not
I was thinking the same this morning. The effects of austerity is actually coming through
Same as in the whole capitalist world.
So you’re saying it’s a wise long term plan for a government to spend more than it makes in income, guess where that leads eventually, bankruptcy. Austerity is a much wiser policy, or you can follow Americas suit multi trillion deficits and an interest rate repayment which has now surpassed the military budget in terms of size.
@@EvropaAeternaNo. A more equal distribution of the wealth of the nation. Such a wealthy country shouldn’t have thousands of food banks and people struggling to heat their homes while the wealthy and the corrupt, like Lady(?) Mone swan around in their yachts.
Hes got a point. London area is the richest area in Northern Europe, but conversely the 10 most impoverished areas in Northern Europe are all in the North of England - making these areas in terms of GDP per capita, on par with the likes of Slovakia, Serbia and Mississippi in the US. Westminster took in the money and refused to redistribute it. Its nothing short of disgraceful what they've done.
Bit like Russia where all the money goes to Moscow and the rest of Russia crumbles. No not been there, I would have liked to, but NATO and EU meddling stopped that.
Spot on . I recently met up with a couple of my London friends who shocked me by saying that they thought the Conservatives had done a pretty good job of keeping the economy in a good place. They were stunned when I educated them on how most of the North of England and places like Stoke-on-Trent where I come from, have been forgotten, left behind, ignored, and have suffered austerity since Maggie Thatcher closed down most of the industrial homelands in the 1980s. I told my friends straight, if you live in London then you receive the benefit of investment and a share of the wealth of this country. But if you live outside of London then you’re stuffed.
Please look up what this agenda is all about. It's also coordinated in other countries. I don't want World Economic Forum Agenda. I don't want a One World Government. It's all being done in plain sight and people now realise.
Of course there are horrific thugs and they don't know why they're fighting like football hooligans. But to call everyday normal decent taxpayers Far Right is so very wrong.
And starmer refusing to even dabate and listen to alternative views and taxpayers problems??? If you don't have the conversation, it will be tragic
@@REJ5557if you live in London, you don't have the same outlook of people who have been left behind and the fact they are being called Far Right is so insulting.
The boats are one of farages favourite blaming point .this young man is right about austerity this i camorans tory britain .we need to give labour a chance and stop these asholes like farage and reform winding people up .trouble is the torys didnt stop the palastinian marching and intimidation .lets see how labour get on instead of running them down the min they get in .
Managed decline can't go on forever. Not in every sector and service.
Politicians must give us a vision of growth or at least some kind of approach to happiness.
Clive says we need to point at the problem. I am pointing at Clive.
This dude is tripping.
Taxpayers are fed up funding immigration while services are in terminal decline 😡
Immigration is necessary for maintaining public services.
I’ll mention that to the wonderful doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants from many parts of Asia and Africa who cared for my other half after major cancer surgery. I’m not sure they’d agree with you on the funding. They might argue that they pay their taxes to support the ‘white British trash’ who live off the state.
Painfully out of touch Clive
I can remember the vitriol that mr Lewis came out with after we voted for Brexit, and the way he spoke down to people, and begging Bercow not to stand down because he was the best weapon remainers had in the HOC.
Brexshit was a hard right project ! It is what truly divided the country because the people who voted for it were lied to and the whole world thought that UK LOST THE PLOT - and here you are !
Austerity is exactly what “climate activists” have been campaigning for.
Feel the full force of the law, after feeling the full force of austerity.
A side of sovereignty a lot of them probably didn’t realise they wouldn’t be too keen on 😂
And his solution is......unlimited borrowing that will consume all the taxes collected to service the interest on the debt.
Giving people equal rights who arrive from foreign lands is not fair
At last someone hitting the nail on the head instead of distraction tactics away from political failure to improve our country
I think he is a bit naive - Scandinavian countries have one of the best social safety nets yet they have one of most anti Islamic rules - in Denmark Muslim women are not allowed to wear the burqa and there is a clear anti immigrant sentiment across the region.
Sounds like they’ve got things right then.
I have ex pat mates who live in Denmark & they told me it’s so safe there, that they don’t mind their children going into towns and cities on their own. By bike or public transport.
Once again, as through history, religion is causing division and hatred. Ban all religions and everyone would be better off.
This guy is grossly out of touch
@user-mw9bd2ey6s no, but it does mean that you have to understand that the underlying problem is not racism, but uncontrolled immigration.
@@gentlebreeze6414 the underlying issue isn't austerity, it's definitely immigration amoung other issues like lack of social cohesion, but racism is playing a role in this due to certain vested interests hijacking the movement
He is a Norwich MP.
I’ve listened to enough of him.
Is this the Muppet Show?
Sorry. This guy is using the situation for his propaganda purposes. It has ZERO to do with austerity. It has everything to do with the histroy of this country since 1997 and his mate Blair.
immigration blairs puppet
No its because theyre trying to phase us out totally.
Get starmer and labour out now🇬🇧🏴🇮🇪🏴🏴
Can’t be as bad as tories
I actually feel for starmer,as tories have run down every service of help or law and inherited a mess and give him a few years,as we gave tories and SNP to long and damage is done and needs fixing 🙏🇬🇧
Doh!!!! Years of Tory austerity yet you want more?? Muppet!
Starmer gave Jimmy Saville a pass enoughsaid @@malcolmchalmers9231
grow up - you have to wait at least 3 years before you have any credibility with 'it's Labour's fault'
Why is your party pushing austerity then?
I think each community has different views on what happened, I just heard a lady talking about her area, it sounds like they've been putting up with a lot for along time, never being heard, especially women and children, even though she didn't agree with what happened, she understood that people had just blew their tops.
Our ancestors stormed sword beach for the boomers to give our nation to people who use it as a toilet.
You mean the water companies who are dumping sewage all over it so that you can't even swim in the sea?
@0:55and there you have it people, an experienced politician that can’t quite put his finger on the underlying issues but is happy to pin any blame on ‘the opposition!’ ......and there lies the problem 😔
As I understand it the new governmet has practically implemented austerity...cutting different costs/infrastructure projects also plan to higher taxes...hmmm...wonder if this is constructive approach...
The cons put austerity on us in 2010 which we never came out of were you been for last 14 years has it been hunky dory britain totally distroyed
It takes a particular kind of madness to say that austerity caused this when the Tories spent much more than the previous Labour government and racked up ore debt. But no, according to this guy the problem was that the Tories should have gotten into even more debt.
14 years of the Cons...literally. 😂😂 they perpetuated austerity they can't blame Labour for their 14 years of pain 😢😢
@@markmorris1105 What is your definition of austerity? If I go to the bank and borrow way more than my earnings, would you call my lifestyle austere? It sounds like your definition of austerity is "Going into debt less rapidly than I believe to be optimal"
@@princemishkin1601i have become convinced that many on the left literally believe that money=wealth, and therefore wealth can be increased by literally printing or borrowing more money.
The Tories practiced socialism for the rich and austerity for the poor.
The speech from the 7th minute Exactly what we need to DO , this Gentleman said the best answer to take care of all this problems
"Austerity" 😱 cobblers!!! Brits want Political class to show leadership and stand up for the country!!!
I'v lived variously in Spain'l, France , Germany and the States in the last 20 years and there is very little difference in 'austerity' policy and diversity discomfort. It's a universal problem for the West. One I think is unfixable.
The great replacement
Finally someone encouraging discussion 🙌

He talks to plants ,what do you expect?
Not a fan of Lewis, especially after his behaviour when taking the oath. However, he is right - there is that core of people, but the hangers-on, who feel hopeless, will join in and put real pressure on the police.
I don’t see them protesting austerity or budget cuts though…… but we have had unfettered immigration and I see them protesting that
This headline is so short slighted and just plain wrong
Nope, wrong again. It’s mass immigration and two-tiered policing. Has this utter melt been correct about anything in his entire career?
People love free stuff from the government.
People voted for him?! 😂 😬 As we’d say in Glasgow - “He’s talking utter pish “
Norwich MP. Labour Council.....
@@susanwestern6434 Oh Dear, poor Norwich lol 😂
"Invest in the NHS"...as a non-Brit looking at this from the outside, i look at the incredible sums of money spent on the NHS vs how unhappy so many seem to be with it, and i am staggered.
It seems to me that there are large structurs problems in the UK, which the conservative party, for whatever reason, failed to fix. I have even less confidence that these issues will be addressed under labour- but i hope for the sake of all mu relatives living in the UK that i am wrong.
Tories did this.
The US shoukd impose austerity just like the UK.
It's like Mississippi Burning, except it isn't the American Deep South in 1964.
No, it's about being the under-class for way too long!
Uk should follow turkey, pakistan etc talking about returning refugees.
Not easy to find...a balanced considered view of what's going on at the moment
I'm not saying austerity hasn't played it's part, it most certainly has, but the real catalyst for all of this is Brexit. Reform and its anti-immigrant agenda has grown in strength because of Brexit. Not all Brexiteers are racist bigots, but for sure all racist bigots are Brexiteers. The irony is, Brexit has directly led to a manyfold increase in immigration. The only difference is that now that immigration is non-European and no longer held back by the EU on our behalf.
Austerity doesnt help but the main issue is way too much immigration in last few years
Country is at breaking point in fact I think it just broke
In addition to Thatcherism smashing up the north.
You really are out of touch
They've been here 70 years and he says they are part of our history! They are but their part is so tiny.
This is crazy. I am watching dozens of videos on this subject where the presenters/guests seem completely out of touch with the comments under the video or on other social media.
Strange to see my old school buddy as an MP, from Goldings lol
"Far right thuggery" It sounds so brutal.
yet appealingly accurate
@@occamraiserThere is also far left thuggery.
America has suffered over 50 years of austerity It's been 1971 since the minimum wage kept up with inflation. It currently stands at $7.25 an hour.
If this is this true about the States then Britain's minimum wage ( about roughly 15 dollars an hour is pretty good. )
Blind leading the blind
Finally 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Clive is spot on
British Culture go and ask 100 people and you get 100 different answers. Shakespeare said one person so I asked them to name five works of Shakespeare, and they managed three!
WE. KNOW. ABOUT. ROYALS
The extremely high levels of immigration (600,000 over the last year) that the middle-classes are so incredibly keen on can only ever put downward pressure on the wages of the working class, making them poorer.
Realy? Occupy-era drivel in 2024?
The occasional cough is irritating me, as a listener. Cut it out.

He's a bit up his own pipe Clive, but he's a lot cleverer than he's given credit for. He's spot on here.
Interesting and compelling analysis.
And Brexit
Finally a politician who understands what’s going on about time
Ha,ha you are as deluded as Clive Lewis.
This guy...
Clive Lewis you have nailed this argument. Well done to you Sir.
Amen This guy needs to be in government, Can you imagine this practical answer to solve the current crisis: This begs the question, " is this mistreatment and chaos intentional?" i.e. is this situation one that keeps the power at the top?
Clive Lewis is one of the most human MP's in the House. He is smart but also humble. Keep holding up that mirror, until they can't turn their heads away. Of course, they will try to destroy you, rather than look at their own reflection.
🤮
Spot on
Excellent.
I agree with Clive...
How do you stop fascism from spreading?

@@coolhand1966 Yobs like you are right to be afraid of him.
He's not wrong. I mean a friend of mine asked me in the car on the way back from a gig at the weekend "How exactly do Labour stop the far right creating division?" And I said "By making people's lives demonstrably better". It's like "you know how you've got a nice place to live, your bills and food shop are manageable, your kids are happy and well-fed, you're doing pretty well? Well that's the fault of immigrants!" isn't a very compelling argument. These kind of people only crop up when things are going badly.

Austerity because we are giving all our money away we are not the purse of the world. Trying to shame people of the empire's past but forgetting all the good it did.

Agree in part, Clive, but nevertheless, there were Munters last night still saying "...we're full.."
With whom? Gammons it would seem that in some cases can't even write 'England' on a wall.
Isn't there anywhere we can encourage these people to be migrants to - and take more educated socialised people from in return?
