Megadeth's Dave Mustaine also talked about why he refused to share a stage with the openly satanic band Dissection back in 2005.

It doesn't matter to me, I separate the music from the actual people.
I love them, I find the subject matter cool.

I respect Dave because he has his values and sticks to them. He has every right to not perform with bands he doesn't want to and he also has every right to not perform songs he doesn't want to. He doesn't play The Conjuring or Good Mourning/Black Friday anymore because of his current beliefs and that's fine with me, he wrote those songs doped up out of his mind and people change as they get older. There's nothing wrong with wanting to move away from some of your own music and others'.

I'm glad Dave has found peace and buried his demon's (drugs, alcohol, witchcraft,).
He also beat cancer and will go down as a metal legend. As a fellow Christian and someone who also had a battle with cancer, I can certainly relate to what Dave is saying.

From my experience with satanicthemed metal bands ( Mostly black metal because it's the genre that fits this theme the most) there are four main categories:
The legit crazy satanist guys whose beliefs, as stupid as they are, add authenticity and power to their music, Dissection is a good example.
Those who are self described satanists but in a more subtle way, like Marduk or Behemoth, and think of it more as a philosophy and sprinkle a healthy dose of anti-christianism on top of it.
Those who use satanism for humoristic, satyric purposes and/or as a stage thing like Ghost do.
The shit bands who do it to shock people but have no idea what they're doing and always do too much and whoses music is so shit no-one gives a crap about it.
That's the thing though. That attitude should go both ways. Dave shouldn't care who he plays with.
It's funny how the Black/Death/Extreme/etc. Metal community prides itself on being so "free" yet both bands and fans tend to be irrationally insular and zealous in keeping "their thing", and are resistant to an actual change of the scene. And despite their "look at how controversial we are" attitude, they're incredibly sensitive to actual rejection or criticism. Like the Rick and Morty fandom of music.
Good for him.. he's lucky he's big enough to make such decisions and survive. Most bands couldn't do that without sacrificing their career, but I respect that he's making those choices. More Christians aren't brave enough, or they're hateful about it. Anyway respect Dave

As per the interview elias posted, one of the Ghouls says "...I don't believe in Jesus", which would heavily suggest that they are not Satanists because Satanists (who actually worship the deity Satan) already adopt the Christian mythos and metaphysics.
The only Satanists that are atheists that I am aware of are Laveyan Satanists, but atheism entails a disbelief in the deity of the Christian mythos that is called Satan. Laveyan Satanists reject most supernatural claims and revolves around a naturalistic worldview; the "Satan" part is used mostly for metaphoric reasons, as well as a being a symbol of antagonism toward Abrahamic religions.
Worth noting, I'm not a Laveyan Satanist (nor any kind of Satanist), so this view is mostly from what I've read in the past on the topic.
Dave. Megadeth. I have been a fan for many years, before and after Dave's awakening. I love his story about sitting on the hill after being up all night and sees the cross on a church in the distance. He walks to it and has a conversation with the minister. Many good interviews with Dave. Dave has overcome a horrendous back injury and surgery, and messed up his arm.

I'm a huge fan of Dave. I've been a fan for years. I find it unfortunate Dave had to exchange addiction to drugs for addiction to religion. Tobias Forge says explicitly that he (and by extension the band) are playing characters and are NOT Satanists. I wonder what Dave's reaction is to them and would he play on a bill with them?

Although I'm not a believer (in any deities -- whether perceived to be "good" or "evil"), I can respect Dave for standing by his principles with regard to establishing whom he's comfortable with and not comfortable with being associated with in terms of other bands or artists he and his band are billed to play with when on tour. An artist should have the latitude to declare whom they like being billed with and whom they don't for whatever reason that they have.

So, as the guy said, since megadeth is megadeth, they couldn't sort it out cause this fucker won't back down and so other bands (like previously mentioned Rotting Christ) are forbidden to play in order for megadeth to accept. I understand that Dave has morals and values, but he does let it get a bit carried away when he won't play any of the older songs about witchcraft or whatnot. A big part of the songs on Peace Sells (my favorite record) like The Conjuring, Black Friday, Bad Omen, are about that, and that ruins any chance of a Peace Sells anniversary tour. Again, I know that he has morals, but that doesn't stop Tom Araya (a devout Catholic) from playing... what... ANY Slayer song? Dave can believe in whatever he wants but maybe he should ease up a bit

We live in a country that allows the freedoms to choose our paths, choose our beliefs, and choose who we surround ourselves with. I like music that gives some small measure of hope and wisdom. It takes a lot more effort to write songs with a good or encouraging lyric than focusing on negatives and complaining.

Dave is in the wrong here. It's his opinion kicking another band of the festival. Had he been the greater man, he would have turned his back and left. He is in the metal scene, and Black Metal is a part of this scene. It's a festival. He doesent need to hang around these guys.

For the record: I listen to both black metal and megadeth.
No god has been demonstrated to exist. So they're all fake. If anyone had actual proof, believing wouldn't require faith. Faith is the excuse people give when they don't have proof, or what proof there is contradicts their belief.

Has science demonstrated that God doesn't exist? Has man demonstrated that we came from nothing? Has science found a way to recreate the big bang on a smaller level? Has it shown that matter and energy can just appear out of nowhere? Of course not.
Look, you can believe what you want, however it is hypocritical to say God doesn't exist because it hasn't been proven and then say science has all the answers when it cannot prove without a doubt how we came to be.
I contend that if you look around you, evidence of God does exist. The complexity in which the world works is proof. The way our bodies work or even the trees growing and doing what they do point to intelligent design.
Of course that if God were to appear we wouldn't need faith. However, that would mean we wouldn't have free will either. Would you rather be a slave with no choice but to follow God, or would you rather God allow you to make your own path and live your life the way you want to? If we were to see God today, our choice for self determination goes out the window.

About the thing with Dissection, I think Dave is a great person for not kicking them out of the festival but just refusing to play with them. I personally find that a very mature thing to do despite other people's comments on Dave being an asshole and all that shit. I also am a huge dissection and megadeth fan and I respect both bands. Also, I don't think megadeth and dissection go togheter that well onstage, even though they are both unique in their own ways, they are different genres of metal. I personally don't believe and any of it (god, satan, etc.), but I totally understand his angle. He isn't boycotting them or rallying people to not buy their records. He's just saying he believes in sheltering himself from temptations he believes personally to be negative to the path he's chosen.

Was it a slow week for news that something from 13yrs ago about a band that ended 11-12yrs ago was dredged up? Using a thumbnail of Ghost was misleading as well as they aren't mentioned once and did not exist in any way in 2005.
As for Mustaine's position he's not wrong, however it came pretty late after ticket sales & promotion work done. Megadeth being a headlining band drew a lot of fans and to leave fairly last minute would hurt the organizers/promoters financially especially with ticket sales & promotion that Megadeth generated. There's no excuse for being that ignorant regarding the other bands on the bill as Dissection was a well established band and getting a lot of press & promotion as Jon Nödtveidt was out and put together a new lineup. It generated a ton of media interest and hype and that was prior to Reinkaos being released. Dave Mustaine saying he's backing out due to another band would have a significant impact and given the situation from a financial perspective it's no surprise. I think it says a lot about their character, Dissection/Jon, that they can be around and work with others who don't share and even out right oppose their religious/spiritual beliefs without it being an issue.
Dave and his ego have a well established history of being difficult to work with as well as varying degrees of inconsistencies of his past.

Them being asked to leave or however that was handled was business and I'd bet outside Mustaine/Megadeth's control.

I think it's unfair given Daves past (80s and another decade of opiate and/or/alcohol cocaine merry-go-rounds), unfair because of my previous reasons. "Because you can....." falls short of a good reason to me, and my person guess is, they wouldn't pay him more to endure their presence, or he already knew. He could've known longer and the booking etc., lawyers would've hashed it out at their expense further fucking over the little guy.
Several parties interests are at play. When you break it apart. I don't see the contest part as one of money - when all the patrons have left their their trash, piss & shit there's (hopefully) fully staffed team of people who have to clean up for the next event.

Dave needs to get back to making Satanic songs like he used to, I'm disappointed in him because Megadeth's aesthetics were closer to Slayer, Possessed & Venom in the old days which made his band better than Metallica. Well if you're that band who got kicked off that festival or one of their fans you would and I dont put much trust in what dave says , if they kick em off and then you're like "okay now we wont fuck up the event by bitching out" you're kinda saying "good riddance".
Dave has the courage of his convictions and is willing to put it out there. It’s not easy to be a Christian and perform metal. But he will be remembered in his flawed but beautiful ways for trying to be himself and do the right thing. He is not alone.

I’m Christian and I’ll say Ghost is a pretty decent band, it’s not that I won’t listen to their music because of their messages in the songs, I just don’t take their stuff to heart. I do respect Mustaine for that decision. I’m sure there are fans that don’t like to hear something like this so it takes balls to stand by your beliefs no matter what other people think.

Slayer is not satanic, it's all for fun, it's an act because metal is the music of hell, and it's fun to embrace that gimmick. But some bands (black metal espeially) are actually satanic, and it's creepy stuff. Like I think (but I might be wrong) that Behemoth is actually satanic.

I never liked him and I don't regret it. He says that the bands he refused to play may be fine people but he refused because of their name. How hypocritical.. Don't pay attention to the character but to the label. He has been through shit himself and it would be good if he understood those around him.
