THIS is Why i Use ACCEL SUPER COILS on My Crown Victoria P71 [ MORE HORSEPOWER??]

- The accel super coil is a cheap and effective alternative to an ignition coil for your crown victoria or panther car! with the pros vastly outweighing the cons
I patrolled in a black 2011 p7b did radar in it for 4 years. Sat for 2 years in storage before coming to the command in 2013 w 300 miles on it. In 2018 it got condemned. I tracked it down at auction and bought it for a few thousand with 72k on the odometer. I Then restored it with new paint and a few mechanical replacements. She now sits in my driveway as a secondary car. It’s funny when people ask me is that an old cop car. I say yep it was assigned to me I worked in it and now I own it. Wish I could post pictures of how brand new it looks. Those were the best cars ever made for law enforcement. Dependable , predictable, and comfortable. It’s a shame they stopped making them. The new Intercepter Taurus ones are garbage. I’m glad I got mine back and will have it forever.
You right seen to me anytime they make a really good car they stop make it same thing happens with the gran national the stop just because the car was never broke ,my crown vic was a k9 is 250k still has the original ac compressor and almost all the part just change the water pump replace.for a BBK aluminum high flow water pump the ac tensor and put hight performers brake rotor scaliper and brake shoe that it
Perfect timing, my Grand Marquis just rolled over 150,000 miles and needs a tune-up, so I was looking at coil packs earlier. Thank you so much!
You can get the same exact performance from a set of $30 eBay coils and they come in yellow as well 😂
@@eriv4735 Eight (8) coils for thirty (30) dollars = $3.75 per coil. Do you go to the drag strip and brag about your coils that cost less than a Big Mac !?? LOL !!
Mebbe you should get a better job so you could afFORD some decent car parts !
Chuck Hallowell you have a 17 second monster do you even go to a drag strip? 😂 but hell yea WHEN my $3.75 coils are putting lengths on cars with a lot more money than I will absolutely brag about my budget parts..i am running 10psi of boost with $30 dollar coils with zero issues..I own, operate, and maintain over 8 vehicles and the majority of my fleet is running $30 coils with ZERO issues, as a matter of fact I have a set that currently has 80k on them as we speak ALSO with ZERO issues..just because you spend more doesn’t mean you get more 🤷♂️..I have msd coils on my daily but that’s because I got them new in the box for $80 otherwise I would have kept my perfectly functioning $30 specials on when I rebuilt the engine..you never amaze to impress me with how very little you actually know..what’s funny is you prove it all on your own 👍😂
@@eriv4735 I'm glad to see that you're happy with those $3.75 coils -- I'm just saying that cheap stuff is not for me -- Actually, I've driven a few million miles without ever having to replace an ignition coil, although I have studied and employed hi-performance ignition systems since I bought my first Austin-Healey in 1960.
The 95 MERC is running the OEM (Motorcraft) coils, with 168,000 miles on them. Turns 16.2 @ 88.6 mph in the quarter-mile.
You know how it goes, don'tcha --
" When the flag drops, the bulls**t stops !"
Chuck Hallowell I am happy with my cheap $3.75 coils especially because they would gap any “high dollar” product you can come up with😂..Those $30 coils have been running in my turbo car for 3 yrs and they have not missed a beat once..just because YOU don’t turn wrenches doesn’t mean parts don’t have to be replaced 🤦♂️..you need to ACTUALLY study then bud..the 95 is a TOTALLY different ignition system (has coil packs NOT coils) then the cars being referred to in this video but you don’t turn wrenches so you’d have no clue (as usual)..it’s ashame that it takes you until the “flag drops” to stop your bullshit especially with your blistering fast 17 second monster 😂🤣..you’re either too prideful or you really believe what you say either way it’s hilarious
Definitely stick with motorcraft coils to avoid problems. They are designed specifically for the vehicle. Not that expensive if you find the right place to buy them. Out of interest, I'll try these sometime.
I’ve put over a million miles (combined) on various 2v cars and he’s only used motorcraft for one of them, with all the others I used the $30 eBay specials with zero issues..my current mgm has msd coils but that was because I got a great deal on them..coils are nothing special and there is little difference in vendors
I agree to an extent because of all the cheap parts made in China. I also agree you're better of with OE parts. However upgrading coils and plugs with performance parts isn't the worst idea in the world. Especially if you simply change out the coil packs with MSD and name brand platinum plugs.
And where exactly can we find them cheaper?
Motorcraft coils are made by Denso in China. 99% of all COP style coils are made in China.
Nah bro they will make tht 4.6 wake up fr tht with some good spark plugs mines haven't ran tht good since I had it
I changed them when I swapped my intake, plug’s and coils. 01 F150 5.4 2V. Passing gear is smooth to high rpm. Also mileage is now bumping on 17👍🏻👍🏻
Um yeah so I just finished doing this exact same thing but with the Accel blue coils instead and also some new Motorcraft Platinum plugs. HUGE improvement, BUT I also broke 6 of my injector connectors in the process. Turns out that is a common problem. The locking tab on the connectors just snap right off when you press them. Fortunately O'Reillys stocks 1 or 2 of these pigtails at most stores so not too major of a problem.
No dyno no gains son
Zero performance benefits
I put them on my 98 f150 4.6 that only needed 2 because 4 ran off each one. Never had issues before but these accel ones never lasted more than a year & would need replaced, got 2 at advanced auto (not accel) & never issues.
I use ACCEL supercoils instead of going with oem since they were close enough to the same price. LOVE THEM!! 2 years and no problems with ignition anymore. I am using NGK plugs. I don't have much motorcraft left in my engine anymore :( I actually went a step further and packed the boots with dielectric grease to help prevent any weird issues down the road. Considering where I live, this actually helps more with moisture than anything. My old coil boots had rusted springs inside them so I don't want to deal with that again.
Good video. I put Denso coils from Rockauto on my Ford. They were way cheaper than the Motorcraft part and made in the USA. Two years later they still work great. There was no observable difference (better or worse) than my old OEM coils with over 100K miles on them.
From what I’ve researched Denso is the supplier for the stock coils. Next time I need some those are what I’m going to get.
Thanks for this I just made a purchase one On some for my 2001 Ford Expedition 4.6
I can see by your reaction big difference. I like how it looks on the engine...Thanks...
I've had two Expeditions and bought the $120 ebay coils for both. They have a lifetime warranty (maybe) but all 16 i bought worked just fine.
I run the $30 coils on my fleet vehicles and they work great
I perfer the free ones that I steal from pick and pull
259.00 for my 2004 Scion xB gained like 800 horsepower pretty sure I ripped a hole in time….not sure how to get back😢
These modular 4.6 V8's do idle buttery smooth alright.
Why don't you use a scope and that really shows the DIFFERNCE in before and after !
I HIGHLY recommend you never use aftermarket coils. Motorcraft is the best for a reason.
Sorry bro I’m not paying $500 when I can pay $200

Can i still use the OEM platinum plugs or do i have to upgrade to iridium spark plugs?
OEM plugs work fine
@@MrRandomReviews T.Y.
Early 4.6 that had Ignition Wires = Bosch #9605 Spark Plugs ; Coil-on-Plug engines = Bosch #9606. Both are Double Iridium, fine-wire designs. You can EXPECT 100,000 miles of service. RockAuto.com for best prices and selection.
@@SlikLizrd I thought OEM plugs for an 08 4.6 was platinum.?
@@baird5776mullet You are correct. And, as Mr Random has pointed out, the "OEM plugs work fine". I would remind y'all that the OEM coils "work fine" too, and yet the OEM coils were replaced with "something better".
Same for the Bosch Double Iridiums -- better than the OEMs, which are a double-platinum design.
I have a 08 P71 and fuse #9 that controls the ignition On/ACC, windows, door switch lighting, and radio keeps popping everytime the car is started. I unhooked the aftermarket radio and jumped the fuse and the factory radio wire harness got hot and started smoking. Could this be the reason for the fuse to blow repeatedly?

Quick question... need someone with panther body experience anyone but got a 08 Grand marquis with 91k miles, changed the rotor, brakes and both ends on the tie rod... steering wheel still shaking and passenger wheel, what else you think I should changed???
Does it shake when going straight like on the highway? If so then you need an alignment
The tire could be out of balance or it could have a bad spot/deformation. I've had both cause that issue on other vehicles.
The worst I've ever experienced is the infamous Jeep Death Wobble. If you're not familiar, search RUclips for a video, it's pretty wild.
Change your tires
Don't guess -- be SURE !! Take your rig to a COMPUTER ALIGNMENT Shop, and have the technician adjust the caster, camber, and toe-in to the factory nominals.
Have all wheels balanced, using "low profile" weights.
It all-ways pays to do a precision alignment and balance -- better ride, better handling, and better braking, too. AND, it's cheap insurance for your expensive TIRES !

I've seen a couple. It's certainly not a bolt in thing
Oh I'd love it. I had a BMW 735 a long time ago with a 5-speed and it was great. The CVPI is the only car I've titled with an automatic and kept over a year. I'm nearly 5 years in the CV.
That’s pretty cool, I had actually replaced my coils/spark plugs last weekend. Used accel super coils too, did definitely notice a slight difference.
The "difference" you noticed was most likely caused by the Spark Plug change.
No matter how much power these coils claim, it's all bogus, 'cause NO ignition coil fires more spark than is REQUIRED to fire the individual spark plug. In other words, if the spark plug requires 25,000 volts to fire, that's ALL the energy that the coil will produce before that plug fires. ALL ignition coils work the same -- they only put out what's necessary to fire each plug.
Coils can be removed and THOROUGHLY CLEANED at each Spark Plug change, 'cause it's usually some form of dirt that fouls the coils, leading to un-necessary coil replacement.
Early Crown Vics and Grand Marquis take BOSCH # 9605 Plugs (Double Iridium), while the Coil-On-Plug engines take the BOSCH # 9606 (Double Iridium)
@@SlikLizrd does Bosch make the Motorcraft plug? Previously told autolite made them but find autolite tend to fail around 40,000 miles while Motorcraft go over 100,000 easy
That is absolutely not true. I ran the stock coil in a Ford ZX2 and it was very slow and no power on the 2.0 engine when I ran the high power coil it was amazingly fast.
I've had my experience with these ignition coils and first of all the pigtail connector doesn't fit correctly because they put the pins in these coils incorrectly so they don't line up (you end up having to bend your current pins to make them clip together) which by then you already know that you need new pig tail connectors, Then when you do get them on and get them to fit you'll notice a small and faint misfire at higher rpms and that's because the ignition coil can't handle high rpm, So it just turns into this horrific mess, Go with MSD Coil Packs, $250 for a pack of 8 and you're good to go!
I’m using Edelbrock coils the red ones and very good as well almost 2years with them doing good as well I have a 2000 Vic
Me encanta tu video. Si quiere quitarle la luz de la bolsa de aire solo cámbiales la base a los haciento o comprar el sensor de la bolsa de aire que solo cuesta como 40 dollar 💵

Would you recommend these for a 2016 ford explorer police interceptor utility V6 ecoboost??
nothing over 2011 and no engine besides a 2v modular 4.6 V8
I personally prefer the MSD Ignition coils @48K volts. Accels are only 24k volts in comparison but is still better than the 11-19K volt motocraft coils.
Yes MSD is a true hi performance ignition system if you include the ignition box.
That's good to know.
If I switch to MSD, do I need to gap the plugs wider?
Is there a website on where I can get these from
THOSE SUPER COILS ARE LOOKING VERY NICE

What spark plugs would you suggest paired with these coils?
i use Bosch double platinums
Panthers with Coil Packs ('92 thru '97) get BOSCH # 9605.
Coil-On-Plug Panthers ('98 thru '11) get BOSCH # 9606.
Both plugs are of a Double Iridium design.

Will this work for an 11 ? Amazon says 2008. Do you know of a different accel model for 2011 ?
Hey mr.random I have a question for you. Have you ever had to change your intake manifold on any of your crown Vicks? I own a 2009 crown Vic and I have to change the intake manifold love to see you make a video on how
It's not that difficult if you've got good tools and are familiar with basic mechanic work. I've been working on my own cars since I started driving a long time ago (before fuel injection). I did it in the front yard under a shade tree in the first year of having my 2008. That was four years ago. It's needing a coil pack now-I replaced one of those about three years ago.
Do you have to to your car after using these?
They are made in China. You can get the same Chinese "no name" coils for $30 a set on eBay, they are even the same color and have the same 15% improvement in spark output. I've had no problems with my set I put in 3 years ago.
Where can i find this ?
When I bought my marauder it had MSD coils every what do you reccomend to change
Keep them.
The MSD Coils are much better than the ACCEL coils, according to the racers.
I have used both brands in the past. Keep the MSD Coils, and replace ONLY the coils that fail. ALL-WAYS Resistance-test coils before installing, even the new ones -- sometimes, they're bad from the factory. Resistance should be 11-18 OHMS, with 14 OHMS as ideal.
I have a 2011 crown Victoria i believe a lifter is going bad would it be worth fix or just giving the car away
If it’s got crazy high miles, is running terrible, is rusty, and falling apart then yea donate it but if it’s a decent car then fix it..you will not regret keeping it around
I had to replace one of the original coils in the 03 Grand Marquis after one of them died after sitting in storage all winter. Probably got 100 OEM coils in my collection of cops I've taken off Ford V8's.
Thanks! I'm looking to buy a crown vic recently. Do you think getting new spark plugs is important for 2011 models? Or should I just replace the spark plugs on any models I buy?

@@MrRandomReviews Thank you!
Unless you are having misfire issues directly related to the spark plugs or are at/past the recommended service interval there is no reason to replace them.

What Injectors you going with there oems? From where?
Fuel injectors from '92 thru '97 Panthers had large metal bodies that acted like heat sinks -- overheated the fuel.
The famous 95 MERC's injectors were replaced with those from a '98 engine that were reconditioned before installation -- no metal body to hold the heat and boil the fuel.
Excellent performance AND fuel mileage.
Did you do before and after dyno tests to prove your horsepower gains or just the good ol placebo affect?
do your OWN dyno tests...im happy with it
Definitely no placebo. U can feel the difference.
bigflockajon It’s definitely a placebo Bro..if you “felt” any difference its because you wanted to feel it so bad that it manifested itself in your head..that or you had a bad coil and or plug and simply returned your car to oe spec to retain oe power that you lost and got used to not having..coils do not “add” any power at all 🤣😂
@@bigflockajon Definition of placebo is where the person can tell the difference, whether it is measurable or not.

ACCEL( now a Holley brand) has been low end crap and even before Holley acquired them as I found out when I actually believed their hype and put wires, distributor inductance module and a coil on a drag car. Even the much vaunted MSD ignitions have had many significant failure problems since they too were acquired by Holley. There are good, reasonably priced after market ignition coils as replacements for Motorcraft/Ford but ACCEL. IMO, are at the bottom of the list. Then there is that gaudy color ....

Nice video, Mr. Random -- everybody's looking to go faster, and your videos help the novices a lot -- and they tell you so every day. Question: Did you change the plugs at the same time as the coils?
If not, you should have changed the plugs, too. If you DID change the plugs at the same time, it was most likely the plug change that made the car feel faster or more powerful. WHY ??
Because a higher voltage going to the plug doesn't mean that the "extra" voltage is actually being used. In other words, a 40,000-volt coil will only send enough voltage to fire the plug. If it takes 27,000 volts to fire the plug, THAT'S ALL that will be delivered. Also, if max voltage gets to the plugs at every ignition, the plug electrodes would burn away quickly. We must realize that if the manufacturers could solve igniton problems by adding a few turns on their coil windings, they would DO IT ! Yes, those ACCEL and MSD coils look all bad-ass, but they are no more reliable than the stockers. The famous 95 MERC still uses the OEM coils that were on the car for 25 years and 167,000 miles (so far), and performing perfectly. I removed the OEM coils at 100,000 miles, washed them thoroughly in soap and water, and resistance-tested them before re-installing with Bosch #09725 Mag-Core ignition wires and Bosch #9605 Double-Iridium plugs gapped at .054 inches.
NO NO AND NO!! The higher the ingnition voltage the the more fuel will be ignited.
A full on MSD ignition system for street cars is designed to produce about 45,000 volts of Electricity to the spark plugs.
Also!! It's a multi spark discharge system which further increases the power output of the ignition.
And it can handle up to 12,000 RPM.
So yes it does work and no OEM ignitons systems suck because they don't produce enough electrical power for the most efficient fuel burn.
@@extremedrivr YES, YES, YES, YES,YES !!
"The higher the ignition voltage, the more fuel CAN be ignited."
What I'm saying is that the amount of voltage delivered to the spark plug will be NO HIGHER than is required to fire the spark plug. It's about resistance, and gap, and electrode shrouding, and other technical stuff.
The TAYLOR Spark Plug Wirre People have a nice book on how that stuff works.
I'm not knocking those hi-po ignitions, as I had a JUDSON Electronic Coil on my '66 SAAB GT, and also on my '68 Lotus-Cortina.
I tried the MSD Blaster Coil in my Land Cruiser Desert Racer, but it couldn't take the desert heat. The stock Toyota coil was more reliable.
