    I have seen some projectors sold for under $200 that say they are between 1500 and 3200 lumens... should I trust that? If yes, then why go with some that you have listed that are lower quality and more expensive? Sorry, as you can tell, I'm new at this. Hope to hear from you soon.

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  6 лет назад +5

      Hey Jose. When it comes to projectors, a high lumen count does not necessarily mean it's a quality product. It's hard to comment or pass judgement on a certain projector without knowing exactly what it is but just know that you get what you pay for. I like the projectors I use because they check all of the boxes I need them to (size, clarity, contrast, brightness, on board media player, throw distance) and I like to stick with the name brands because I know I'm getting a quality product that will last a while. If you find a cheap(er) projector meets your needs and will be bright enough for your purposes, I say go for it. The video above is just meant to serve as a reference so you can figure out which qualities are important to you and offer viable suggestions for your digital decorating. Hope that helps! If you want me to check out a specific project, feel free to send me a link.

      Toil & Trouble's DIY Such a quick response! Thank you so much for that. In no way was I trying to make it seem like the projectors you picked were overpriced. If fact, I was afraid that the ones I saw pop up might be misleading. I wish I had seen your video prior to my purchase. I recently purchased the Atmosfx projector. (Hasn't arrived yet) I can't remember the specs but it is the one on their page that costs $199. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated from a unbiased source. Thank you again!

      @ToilandTroublesDIY  6 лет назад

      No problem! The atmosfx projector should suit you just fine for a starter projector. I have not had a chance to test it out for myself but I did get close to buying the "digital decorating kit plus". The only thing holding me back was just the size of the projector - needed something smaller for my outdoor set-up. What will you be using it for?

    • @JoseRamirez-qh9qf
      @JoseRamirez-qh9qf 6 лет назад +1

      Toil & Trouble's DIY The projector comes with some Xmas scenes loaded on an sd card so I think I will use one of those. We hope to place it inside and project out of one of our windows. I hope to achieve a good looking visual from outside. I am just not sure what to expect since I have never owned one before nor do I know if the Atmos projector actually does what it claims, lol. Thanks again for your responses. I appreciate it.

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  6 лет назад

      I gotcha. Depending on the size of the window, it should look just fine. My issue with the DDK is the resolution, as it is only 800 pixels on the long end (the DDK Plus is 1280 on the long end which is actual high definition). If you are planning on keeping that projector once it arrives, I would make sure to buy one of the window projection materials that atmosfx offers such as the "premium window projection material" so that you get the most out of the resolution from that projector. If you do decide not to keep it and want to find a good alternative in the $200 range, I would be happy to offer suggestions.

    Thanks for the link! This is my first year experimenting with digital decorations. In my research for a projector, the Epson 1040 seems to be the cheapest model I have found that has all the specs I'm looking for. (1080p, 3000+ lumens, good contrast ratio, keystone adjustments, usb and hdmi connections) I'm banking on getting one used for around the $400 mark

    I need to project onto a scrim in the front seats of my car. I guess placed in the back trunk through the rear seats and into the front. I'd like it to be able to run off of battery. Have you used a portable battery projectors that would work well for that??

      Hey Neville. Yes, I have. I would highly recommend the either the Aaxa BP1 or M7 depending on your budget and brightness needs. Both are incredible capable battery powered projectors!

    What type of projection screens do you use? I have a white rear projection screen (6ftx9ft) I use in my window, but I feel I could get a better picture. I have an Epson HD Projector and the image is really good on the wall, but I wanted to maximize my AtmosFX videos and felt maybe the white screen is the issue. I just ordered gray screens to see if this would fix the problem. Thanks for the videos

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY

      Hello and thanks for watching! I use a white cling film that AtmosFX sold a few years back but no longer do. Unfortunately, I have not found a good replacement for it but I know there are several companies out there that sell a similar window cling projection film. Grey screens like the one AtmosFX currently sells as their window projection material work quite well and people are usually very satisfied with them. Hope that helps!

    I use the gt1080darbee for front window and now looking for a good cheap one for a archway Hollusion display but have not make up my mind yet. Picked up the Darbee for under $600 refurbished and love it. Was the second projector you used good enough for a Hollusion or would you upgrade? It will be outside in my front yard.

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  5 лет назад +1

      That's awesome! The M4 is just right for the hollusion projection; provides just enough brightness and clarity. People seem to prefer using cheaper projectors for their digital decorating (which I do understand) but the higher quality projectors definitely help pull things off! I am not sure if they still sell the M4 but if you find something compact with 800+ lumens, it will definitely work for a hollusion display provided that the location is relatively dark at night.

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  11 месяцев назад

      It mostly depends on your budget! Automatic on/off functions are typically only seen in home theater-level, brand name projectors like Epson, Optoma, etc. However, Aaxa recently released an upgraded version of their HP3 which is a budget-friendly Halloween projector that now features an auto-start function. You can check it out here - amzn.to/45ESAIi

    SD card external media players require 5 or 6 programming steps first. Do projectors that have internal ports for the SD card need several programming steps also?

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Richard. There are still a few steps involved with the Aaxa projectors before your media plays but definitely not 5. It's typically the main menu, then selecting your source, then choosing the media within the source each time the projector is turned on. I hope that answered your question but let me know if not.

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  3 года назад

      I used an Aaxa P4X to project the grave digger shadow for my display. That projector has 175 lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. I would shoot for a similar contrast ratio as you will want your blacks to be as dark as possible but you may want to get something with a higher lumen count (200-300 range). Hope that helps!

  • @carsondunaway8416

    Hi There! I am trying to make a hollusion in my yard. Do you use only battery operated projector and how close does the projector have to be to have a clear image on the material. I tried it last year with the AtmosFX projector and just didn't look clear enough outside.

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  5 лет назад

      Hey Carson! Thanks for watching! I use the Aaxa M4 Mobile LED Projector for my Hollusion archway which can either run on the internal battery or be plugged in. The projector I use is 800 lumens with a native resolution of 1280x800 (HD) which I find works great for this use. According to the AtmosFX site, the projector they sell is listed as 800x480 resolution (could explain clarity issues depending on distance at which you are projecting) and does not specify the lumen count, which leads me to believe it is low and not bright enough for outdoor use. I would not recommend this projector for an outdoor Hollusion.

    I have a question? I just bought the ghost apparitions 3 the pirate one, and I am new at this, and it said u can use your laptop and hook it to your projector, what kind of projector do I need and what kind of laptop do I need

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  3 года назад

      For the laptop, you will need it to have some sort of media player software that is able to play .mp4 files (ex: quicktime player for mac) and a hdmi port (or a port that can accept an adapter that has an hdmi port in it).
      For the projector, aside from the right specs, you will need it to have a hdmi or mini-hdmi port to receive the signal from the laptop. Hope that helps!

    Do you know of ANY projector that will AUTOMATICALLY start playing when power is applied? (for Halloween display) Or one that is remotely operated with a FREQUENCY controlled remote (WiFi, Blue tooth, etc..,) , NOT an optically controlled remote..., (line of sight) ????

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  4 года назад

      Yes. On higher-end projectors, there should be an option for the projector to power up as soon as it receives power. (I know this is an option on the Optoma projector I have.) If you have a projector with this capability, you can keep it plugged in to any smart outlet (or switch) and remotely control the power to the projector.

    Hi there - I was wondering if you could just use a somewhat inexpensive pocket or mini projector to do digital decorations on the wall of a bedroom. Not a huge room and the resolution does not have to be perfect. Just going for the spooky feel and images for the most part. Also, do you need a short throw projector for that type of decoration since it would not be a great distance?

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  5 лет назад

      Hey Angela, thank you for watching! You can definitely use a less expensive projector for your decoration if you are not concerned with high resolution. The reason I use the two smaller ones featured in the video is because they have on-board media players where with most other models, you will need an external media player to run your digital decoration either from a SD card or USB drive.
      If you are not trying to cover a large area, no, you will more than likely not need a short throw projector. Short throw projectors are generally only needed when you need a large projection and only have a small throw distance to work with.
      Hope this helps, happy haunting!

    i want to do a good pumpkin display next year, did the aaxa pico one have any issues? does it loop short files ok, did the sound suck? would a AAXA P300 be a lot better?

    • @ToilandTroublesDIY
      @ToilandTroublesDIY  4 года назад

      The Aaxa p300 would be brighter but again, for the pumpkins, you really don't need a super bright projector so the P4X works just fine. The sound output on the P4X is decent but I would recommend hooking them up to an external speaker via an aux cord. Lastly, depending on the software version that is downloaded onto the projector, the on-board media player may loop the video on its own or you can tell it to loop the video within the video settings. Either way, no need for an external media player. My P4X just completed its third season running the pumpkin projections with 0 issues.
