I hope that people who booed him feel dumb now. The Ellis-Bogut trade was nothing but success for the Dubs. Drafting Barnes and Green as well. Their roster this season is a piece of art.
+Robert Arnobit Dude, Lacob had only owned the team for 2 years. Golden St fans are passionate, but this was so disrespectful. They should be kissing this guy's ass for firing that piece of shit Mark Jackson.
And I'm sure you were right on board with that trade and knew exactly what he was doing right? And I'm sure you got all pissed off when they booed and told anyone who would listen about how he was going to turn everything around right? Hypocrite.
As much as it hurt to see ellis go, i think in the long run this will be better for us. with lee and bogut in the paint, and curry and thompson scoring from the outside, i think it'll work. All we need is to draft/trade for a good sf!
Watching this still makes me laugh. This is a good reminder of what fans really know, even though we think we know how to run an organization. Thank you warrior fans for being so wrong!
Shoutout to Chris for holding it down for real. Warriors' fans were obviously tired of being in mediocrity for a while, but Chris knew what to say and good thing everything panned out even better than what fans expected at that time
The Ellis/Udoh trade for Bogut gave the Dubs their first legit big man in years and anointed Curry with the status of team leader and all-star point guard. This was a good move in hindsight, though the fans couldn't have known it at the time with years of futility.
Man...I remember this trade very well. I didn't follow the NBA too closely at the time, but even I was wondering, "What in the hell is he doing?!" Change needed to be made though...that much was obvious. Props to Lacob, you proved everyone wrong. Right now, everyone is glad you did hahaha.
It's the context of the situation. Warriors hadn't won a Championship since 1975. At this point when they started booing, they only had 1 playoff apperence in between a long drought then trade their most popular player. The fans were fed up. As a Knick fan I completely understand where the fans were coming from.
But the owner was new and was actually doing things to make the warriors better at the time. I can understand what the fans felt, but they were really shortsighted.
the fans just needed a lil venting after so many years of losing, horrible trades, blown lottery picks (missed on KG, Kobe, etc.)...and at that time just traded their most popular player (Monta Eliis) and top scorer. the paying crowd was just tired of a bad product...cant blame em at that time
Warriors fan for life here. I was pissed too. We all loved Monta. It was a sad loss. We love our players. It took guts for Lacob to go out there, but he shoulda known at the time, he was not gonna be well liked. But it is a good thing hes turned this franchise around.
Who looks stupid now? I never understood the boo's for that trade... I LOVED that trade - it made room for Thompson to be a starter and got Bogut - a legitimate Center, The Warriors had coveted for a long time. Not to mention, it saved a lot of money by freeing up Ellis. Without that trade, The Warriors do not make the Finals and win 67 regular season games.
+Nick Jasper monta was such a loved player there. he was amazing and had straight shit around him and always played hard and was also a big reason when they were the 8 seed and beat the 1 seed mavs
Adam K You mean the same "beloved" player that as soon as he signed a brand new contract, severely injured his ankle in a moped accident that resulted in being suspended 30 games w/o pay... that same player? If you still have the same argument in hindsight, then you have no argument. He was a selfish player off the court as well as on the court. Golden State flourished as a result from that trade. What's more magical, winning the championship and having the best team in the NBA, or having an 8th seeded playoff team that won a round in the playoffs?
Nick Jasper wtf. I am only saying why the warriors fans were pissed at the time. he was a great exciting player and there only good player, where every win they had was all because of him, and they had no faith in the upper office and he was such a fan fav that is why there were pissed. I am not saying they should or shouldnt have been pissed nor saying the trade was right or wrong, so not really sure what your getting at
Nick Jasper when did I say it was a bad trade? and when did I compare and nba title to winning a first round game? I was just saYing the reason they bood that moment........jesus wtf
I thought the trade was a lateral move because I didn't expect much from an injured plague bogut but I was high on Thompson so this trade meant him having more plays time. My friends thought the trade was horrible cuz even though the Warriors were terrible they at least had fun watching ellis
Stephen Chan Did you just start watching the NBA the past couple of seasons? How about the past 30 plus years? The GS Warriors have been terrible for most of the last 30 plus years. Their fans didn't trust their ownership. They have had a history of making bad trades, bad draft picks (until Curry , Thompson, etc) bad luck with injuries, never getting a consistent big man/center (until Lee, Bogut), etc. They are a loyal fan base, but have been watching bad basketball for the past 30 plus years. Aside from the a few bright spots (the last 3 seasons, 2007-2008, mid '80s-mid'90s....winning seasons, playoff teams). The Warriors have been one of the worst teams in the league since they won the NBA championship in 1975. Most of the past 30 plus seasons they had strings of losing seasons and no playoffs. This video was from back in 2012. Guess where they finish that season? Sub .500 losing season (23-43) out of the playoffs. A very familar thing for the Warriors in the past 30 plus years. The fans were frustrated, they have the right to boo their ownership as do other franchises, fans of other teams across the nation. So hindsight is 20/20. Back then Monta Ellis (that's how sorry the Warriors were, lol) was their best hope at the time, he was like their Kobe, been with GS for a long time. Curry was very young at the time, injury prone, and still an unknown (as for potentially being elite) at the time. The Warriors have had bad luck with injuries for DECADES. So you could see the concern there. The Warriors started off well in 2012, but fell apart around the All Star Break and then proceed to trade away their great hope (Ellis) during the collapse. They threw in the white flag. The fans were pissed. It's understandable. That was their 4th straight losing season. 5th in a row missing the playoffs. 16th losing season in the past 18 seasons, making the playoffs just once (2007), missing out in 2008 despite a 48-34 record (the Western Conference is strong and very deep for the past 15 seasons or so compared to the Eastern Conference). They haven't been consistently good like they have been in the last 3 seasons since the mid '80s-mid '90s era, when they had great talented teams back then that were in the playoffs with winning seasons. But a lack of a quality big/center usually haunted them come playoff time.. Sure, the changes that they have made over the years have paid off. Why did the fans boo the owner back in 2012? Everything was explained to you from my comments above. Basically frustration, distrust for the owners, etc. People wouldn't be asking this if the Sacramento Kings fans booed their owners (the Kings have been sorry since around 2007, had some very good teams from late '90s-mid 2000s) right now or when they fired Malone (a good coach). And then fast forward to 2018 and all of a sudden the Kings are back in contention and an elite team again. People would be saying the same thing. You see, it's all dynamics and hindsight 20/20.
At first it was standard fan reaction. But they just kept booing while Rick Barry was talking and trying to get them to respect the Jersey retirement night. Disgraceful.
Crazy watching this again. As a long die hard Warriors fan I always thought getting a Center in the 90-00's NBA was the most important pc. I liked Monta as a Warrior but I always thought the Bogut trade was the right decision even though he was often hurt. Who knows what would have happened had he played the whole Spurs series, not been hurt for 7 game Clippers series, missed the final games of the Cavs series loss. Looking back in 2019 with them resigning Bogut at 35 or whatever for the playoff run. Management especially before Curry changed the game by spreading the floor. Trading Monta was the first step in changing the franchise. Not to mention it put HOFer Klay Thompson in the starting lineup.
This isn't the first time fans who booed their own team were proven wrong. 1979 - Phil Simms was booed by Giants fans the night he was drafted. Seven years later, he's the MVP of Super Bowl XXI, and retired as the all-time leading passer in Giants franchise history (though he has since been surpassed by Eli Manning). 1999 - Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles traveled to New York for the NFL Draft for the sole purpose of booing any First Round Pick by the Eagles NOT named Ricky Williams. The unfortunate victim of their wrath was Donovan McNabb. Needless to say, McNabb led the Eagles to 5 NFC Championship Games, winning one of them, while Ricky Williams' career was derailed by the Hippie Lettuce.
stfu with this "rigged" shit I didn't hear anything about that when the Warriors were cruising through the injured Western conference last year or winning 73 games this year. There's a reason they say "live by the 3 die by the 3." The NBA didn't make Steph go 4/14 from 3
BlazenAzn420 Uuuuhhhh soooooo?? they fired the coach, we want to win, and when when we do again, think again yourself. I know I will come back to this comment!!!!! :D
Brewern07 No, Jackson had nothing to do with those wins. It was all the roster. Last year they got jack and landry two good players to come off the bench. Curry took off. Three rookies in Barnes green and ezeli who gave you a good amount of playing time. Bogut finally played. This year we got Iguodala, Thompson improved from last year. Curry continued his hot shooting and passing. Bogut started off the season healthy. Green improved. Iguodala and bogut's Defense made an impact. You see??? Mark Jackson isn't the reason the Warriors are "Winning". Mark had NO plan at all. Only relied on Iso ball. The assistants did all the work for him. He was nothing but a preacher. We don't just need someone to be best pals with the teammates, we need someone who has a strategy and at least try to put in work, which Kerr sounds like he'll do. I'll take my chances with Kerr over Jackson. Geez, are these people really that slow??? have you guys JUST started watching the Warriors??? probably. If you reallly can't see that, then you don't understand basketball
I was one of the people booing. Monta. The best player. For Bogut. & injured center. He was Light-years ahead. How were we supposed to know any better?
As a bay area sports fan, all I can say now is that given the success that the Warriors have had this past season, we HAVE to respect and trust the new ownership. They seem to know what they're doing.
June 19th 2022,3 days ago Warriors won their 4th championship in 8 years. Those same fans booing joe lacob because he traded monta instead of Steph are they same fans giving it to Celtics fans saying their team sucks. 10years ago you thought your own team sucked and didn’t trust in the front office smh
After seeing what happened in Chicago last night to Jerry Krause's widow it reminded me of this night in Oracle. How ironic that these two teams faced off and that happened.
The people who booed this night were the true fans. The fans who showed up the games when the Warriors struggled to get 20 wins. The ones who sellout Oracle even when the dubs would lose more games at home than win.
I love all these revisionist who've commented and are acting like they were behind Lacob 100% and knew everything would be fine, as they denegrate that crowd for booing. Hindsight really is 20/20 for you hypocrites isn't it?
The boos weren't for trading Monta. It was the pent up frustration over 20 plus years of terrible ownership. Just read Bill Simmons article on Grantland about the Warriors. It's called 'How to Annoy a Fan Base in 60 Easy Steps'
I can proudly say I didn't boo Lacob. I actually wanted them to trade Monta for over a year before they finally pulled the trigger and although sad to see him go I knew it was the right thing to do. I also can say that I was embarrassed to be a Warriors fan when all those classless fans pulled that crap.
I'm a Warriors fan and I understand why people booed, even if 5 years from then the team won 2 titles. Ellis was the best player by far and Bogut was injured at the time the trade was made. The team played in the Playoffs only once in something like 14 years and the supporters were pissed about the situation. Trading Ellis seemed like a suicide move, although it paid off well later on
Little did they know that Klay would be way better than Ellis. I love Monta Ellis but he himself said we wouldn’t have won a title if the trade never happened.
Bruh I was there for that. I booed. I was wearing my Monta Ellis jersey. I was so pissed. But it turned out to be the smartest move ever look at us now.
Its funny looking at this now especially after the season the Warriors had...The owner new what he was doin when he traded Monta Ellis away...Even the Bucks don't know what to do with him now...That was smart move and Warrior fans should feel lucky to have him and Mark Jackson at the helm...I wish my Knicks would of interviewed Mark Jackson, he would of took the Knick job too if it was offered
Fans booed him because their expectations were too low. They just wanted exciting players, and maybe sniff the playoffs. But the owner and GM had much higher goals.
I mean as a long time Warriors fan they had lost a lot of good players for about 15 years. No one knew what the team would become. There were some really bad years and things were just stabilizing with Monte
After making the playoffs once in the past 18 years at the time, guaranteeing a playoff appearance and not delivering, on top of trading away a fan favorite you goddamn right Bay Area fans are going boo ownership. It was meant for previous owner Cohan but Lacob took it. Anyone looking from the outside in definitely won't be hearing fans boo for the next decade for obvious reasons.
Quick Chris Mullin story. When I was a kid my parents took me up to Portland to watch Dream Team. We went to the hotel where they were staying before the game so we could get autographs. I was about 12. Chris came walking up and I handed him my hat and pen and he looked at it disgusted and handed me back my pen and hat cause the pen cap was still on! Barkley came out and signed my hat though!
how many playoff series did they win with ellis there? one and they never made it to the playoffs with him as the leader of the team.....ellis is great but it was obvious it wasnt working out
@josephrinzo I get what youre trying to point out but it (in my book) would take the greatest fans on earth to LET YOU KNOW when the OWNERSHIP FUCKED UP.
Hindsight is 20/20. The Warriors were God awful for decades. The Monta Ellis trade for Bogut(who was often injured) was at the time viewed as a unfavorable trade for the Warriors. Although the Warriors finally got a consistent starting big man, but the trade clearly established that Steph (who was injured alot) would be the franchise player and Klay would step in as the starting 2 guard.
I'm a BIG Bay Area Sports Fan; the Giants, A's, Warriors, 49ers, Raiders & Sharks. My Mom's fav Warrior was Monte Ellis. She cooked me Sinigang whenever I asked for it, so who Am I to argue w/mom. I usually side w/mom. I knew little about Steph Curry except that in the college tournament he was lighting it up. I was glad that the Warriors drafted him. I thought for a while he was an albino, that was taking the college tournament by surprise. I probably would be among the crowd that was booing (softly). But when Mullin, then Barry (who is my favorite all-time big mouth... Oops Warrior, and still is today). When those 2 came out, I would've sat down and stop booing and listened. Not to be sold on the idea of change right away but to be patient. Lemme tell u my patience was wearing thin. I hated it when Byron Davis dunked over AK47. They thought they won game 7 of the finals. Sorry, they upset the Mavs and the Jazz years b4. I wanted to win it all again. Like in 75. They would've won again if Barry didn't pout. Little did we know how the future would turnout. WOW!
Hilarious that they boo'd the hell out of this guy just to look at where they are today.. I hope everyone who boo'd him that night feels like a complete fucking fool today.
matthew6089 I'm glad they've turned it around and we were right to boo. We were SICK of the sequence of lame ownership and fed-up with the excuses. I am glad we were wrong but would do it again. Teams have PROVE they are good before they get cheered around here.
Fans were seriously pissed for MANY reasons for many years, and one of them was this new owner's apparent attempt to associate himself with one of our heroes. If you were a dubs fan like me for the past +30 years you might understand that. Of course everything is tits now. But billionaire owners often forget that just having money does not buy them trust from the fans. Do you need examples? Joe Lacob, Jerry West, Steve Kerr are three of the sharpest men in the game, and for that, this owner deserves a ton of credit .. so far.
I was at that game bro. I personally didn't boo but if you knew the story of the Warriors for the previous 35 years and being unable to trust anyone. (The had a lottery pick 17 of 18 seasons at one point.) Monta Ellis was our Kobe at the time. That's how pitiful we were and you traded him for a center that is injury prone( something that happened a lot in those 35 years). And here you have an owner that declares all these things that don't come to pass I didn't blame you boo'd still uncomfortable though the whole thing.
Lol any warrior fan that had known anything about basketball knew it was a good trade. It allowed curry to do what he did and allowed Olay to develop into a very good player too.

I remember being there, oh boy were we fucking wrong 😂
Five straight Finals appearances and three rings later…
The stone that gets defected becomes the cornerstone 4x 🏆🏆🏆🏆
When Oracle was an Oakland crowd.
I was one of the people booing. Monta. The best player. For Bogut. & injured center. He was Light-years ahead. How were we supposed to know any better?
Now look at the warriors, best team in basketball for the past 5 years, getting rid of monte was the best thing for that franchise...
Stewy I don't know why people think that chuckers are good. People overate inefficient scorers.
As a bay area sports fan, all I can say now is that given the success that the Warriors have had this past season, we HAVE to respect and trust the new ownership. They seem to know what they're doing.
They did lol
Rick Barry was fuming lol
Angry old man energy lol
June 19th 2022,3 days ago Warriors won their 4th championship in 8 years. Those same fans booing joe lacob because he traded monta instead of Steph are they same fans giving it to Celtics fans saying their team sucks. 10years ago you thought your own team sucked and didn’t trust in the front office smh
After seeing what happened in Chicago last night to Jerry Krause's widow it reminded me of this night in Oracle. How ironic that these two teams faced off and that happened.
Even the great Bill Simmons never saw it coming when he wrote "50 Ways To Annoy A Fanbase" on Grantland.
Rick Barry schooled them all, and wow he called the future right!
I know they feel silly.
The people who booed this night were the true fans. The fans who showed up the games when the Warriors struggled to get 20 wins. The ones who sellout Oracle even when the dubs would lose more games at home than win.
stop repeating the same thing non stop. This was really unclassy by the warriors fans. I find it embarrassing.
3 years later look were they are now
Damn son, look where we at now . If only us NBA fans knew what was in store for us
I still can't believe they came back and won a series down 3-1, then did the same thing in reverse in the Finals
Rick Barry called it.
I love all these revisionist who've commented and are acting like they were behind Lacob 100% and knew everything would be fine, as they denegrate that crowd for booing. Hindsight really is 20/20 for you hypocrites isn't it?
Seemed like a horrible trade at the time. Broken down center for one of the league's top scorers. Feels like this was ages ago now.
great knowledgable fans who voice their opinion , not to mention paying customers!
The boos weren't for trading Monta. It was the pent up frustration over 20 plus years of terrible ownership. Just read Bill Simmons article on Grantland about the Warriors. It's called 'How to Annoy a Fan Base in 60 Easy Steps'
It’s crazy they boo’d this man
I can proudly say I didn't boo Lacob.
Klay isn't a better player than Ellis.
Klay couldn't fill Ellis' 2013-14 shoes in Dallas. Ellis was the second best shooting guard in the league
This is what years and years of built up frustration sounds like.
Looking forward to the Warriors getting back to this level of trashiness.
"Everything will work out just fine" i think of this moment when im down in the dumps
If I remember correctly. They made trades to tank to keep their pick which became Harrison Barnes who helped win a title.
Best fans in the NBA, give me a break
How would you react if your team traded the teams leading scorer for a injured center? You wouldnt have cheered, dumbfuck.
Hindsights 20/20
So disrespectful to do that during Chris Mullin's night!!! This only happens once in a lifetime and they did that to him?!?!
They booed him for fireing mark jackson, but clearly the fans didn't know what they were thinking
***** They booed Joe Lacob for trading Monta Ellis. NOT firing Mark Jackson. This video was years ago.
Resa N
o shit my bad
3 years of patience = championship
Bruh I was there for that. I booed. I was wearing my Monta Ellis jersey. I was so pissed. But it turned out to be the smartest move ever look at us now.
@bitchasshoeism hows he a bandwagon fan if he was wearing a Monta Ellis jersey? Doesn't that mean hes not lol
2012. BOOOO JOE LACOB! 2013. PLAYOFF FANS, YESSSS THANK YOU JOE LACOB!
Stay classy Oakland...you think Peter Holt would ever get booed in San Antonio?
Lacob is looking good now!
Barkley came out and signed my hat though!
well, warrior fans are the most energetic fans, after the Thunder
WOW!!!!..........
AMAZING HOW LIFE IS - THIS IS JUST 6 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!
the fans are the ones spending the money last time i checked.
after klay dropping 60 on the pacers i thought “man i wish they can sign monta to give dude 1 ring”
how many playoff series did they win with ellis there? one and they never made it to the playoffs with him as the leader of the team.....ellis is great but it was obvious it wasnt working out
Took his team to Frisco now has the most valuable team in the NBA 😂
Mullin and Barry spoke the truth. One year later, playoffs!
@josephrinzo I get what youre trying to point out but it (in my book) would take the greatest fans on earth to LET YOU KNOW when the OWNERSHIP FUCKED UP.
why were the fans booing him?
Because Monta Ellis was traded!
@@DannyGoldingTV But curry more legendary than monta
@@MrWackydoodles not at the time
Hindsight is 20/20.
2:20 I hate when people say one deserves respect they have to earn it. BIG DIFFERENCE
THIS WAS HILLARIOUS!
And the history will repeat!
WOW!
he's playing now. plus they're a lot better this year so it worked out...
The best owner in the NBA. He is one of the reason for the warriors dynasty. Othet owners dgaf about championships
Can we find all these haters and ban them FOREVER??? Wow....
3 Titles. Can't argue that.
Hilarious that they boo'd the hell out of this guy just to look at where they are today.. I hope everyone who boo'd him that night feels like a complete fucking fool today.
I know right
matthew6089 I'm glad they've turned it around and we were right to boo.
Joe Lacob drop the mic on the now 🏆🏆🏆
Lol any warrior fan that had known anything about basketball knew it was a good trade. It allowed curry to do what he did and allowed Olay to develop into a very good player too.
What hypocrites...I'm a Spurs fan and none of us would ever boo RC Buford or Holt
Warrior fans best in the nba
Oh man if only they knew
People say the Ellis trade worked out, but the Warriors offered Curry first and the Bucks declined. The fans were totally right here.
Yea, they offered their dynasty. However had they traded steph there wouldn't have been boos like that. Those boos were cuz of monte
No they weren't. They are booing because they wanted Ellis instead of Curry. Stupid take in hindsight.
@@tyes77you have to remember Curry was always injured and Monta was their best player.
warriors fans booing the guy that got them the chip
good fans...i bet all of them watched the last series full of joy ¬¬
