Milwaukee Folding miter saw stand Review 48-08-0551
We reviewed this miter saw stand in 2017 and have been using it since.
When we first look at this stand we noted that the new stand was definitely an improvement over their older version miter saw stand.
Milwaukee had improved the leg lock lever, making it WAY easier to open and close the legs of the stand. The new stand utilizes a spring-loaded lever, similar to the Dewalt stand, to unlock the legs one-handed.
Second, they improved the miter saw attachment bracket. The old bracket used a clamp and lock mechanism, located on the front of the saw. We often found this location awkward, and difficult to balance the saw and operate the clamp. The new stand uses a spring lever that allows you to clip and “pressure-push” the saw down, and into place. This spring lever is also WAY faster, and easier to release the saw from the stand.
Third, the material support ends rollers were replaced with a vertical support pole held in place with a thumbscrew. We noted that this screw was the “weak,” point of the connection.
Lastly, we commented that they made the stand lighter and we're offering a few cool accessories like a carry strap and clamp-on tabletop to improve the efficiency of the stand.
So in our review, on first appearances, they improved the design and cut down the steps needed to set the stand-up and get going.
So looking back 3-plus years- how does it perform today?
    Support Bracket
We called out the plastic knobs as cheap and a weak point. We were tight - they constantly loosen and the material support ends loosen as well. The bottom line is the support ends do not hold adjustment well. We called this out in our review and were right.
Milwaukee should consider all-metal, aluminum knobs, or better yet levers. At a minimum Milwaukee should be using the same lever attachment for the material support arms lock.
    Carry strap
I used it when testing in the beginning but took it off after the strap got caught on other tools and shelving in my tool trailer. I continue to use the handle which is well-placed and balanced.
    Leg Lever and Pin
Probably one of the best features of this stand is the four spring-loaded leg levers. We found these levers easy to use one-handed, and the pin had excellent alignment with a high tolerance in the metal locking hole. The legs swing in and out of the folded position smoothly, allowing you to open and close the stand one-handed. This feature is still working great today.
    Leg Cap Design
The legs have ABS plastic end caps to prevent marring of floor surfaces. One of the leg caps is adjustable, allowing a leveling feature. The fitment of these caps is a ribbed style, friction fit. In our experience these caps are the first thing to fall off and often result in the user having to tape them back on.
We lost two, had to re-order new ones and then tape them in place.
We noted in our review that dragging the stand will dislodge the plastic leg caps. This is still true today. This is another area of the stand that Milwaukee can definitely improve on.
    Accessory Table Top
Initially I liked having the tray and found myself placing my tape, and other items on it. As time went on it stayed in the trailer and eventually frond its way to a dumpster. The extra steps to pull it out, set it up, and store it again did not give a ROI on having a small table.
Looking back on this the table is a waste of time.
    Overall thoughts
This stand works well but for $239 should be better, way better.
I feel we got this review right. We called out the major improvements as well as some issues and time on the Jobsite has we got it right.
I need to be clear that this miter stand is still performing in the field and getting the job done.

I'm a milwaukee guy for sure!!! but you've hit the nail on the head with this stand, and i agree with many others here saying that this REAL WORLD long term assessment is so valuable!!!! I would also like to thank you for helping me decide on the strap and clipboard attachment, i was wondering if they would be worth it, so thank you for saving me some cash to buy OTHER milwaukee tools!!!! Spot on as usual with the look-back review. (Keep it up). I used your original review when the stand came out as part of my decision making process when purchasing my own model 48-08-0551 stand. The only thing extra I would add is that the plastic “feet” on the saw mounting brackets that were held on with steel roll pins eventually elongated and deformed where they attach to the pin and began falling off after about 6 months. I had to make and use some small wooden blocks as inside channel support and a through bolt in place of the roll pin along with a couple small sheet metal screws to reattach the plastic feet onto the metal channel of the mounting brackets. A slight redesign of the metal channel in that area similar to the DeWalt brackets along with a bolt-on rubber foot should solve that issue. Very glad that I didn’t pay full price for my Milwaukee miter saw stand when I invested in it about three years ago now. IMHO Dewalt still has Milwaukee beat when it comes to the folding miter saw stand.

I am considering Milwaukee 12 inch slider corded.
    Bosch ditto
    Makita is odd.
    As for the matching stand..
Milwaukee have to purchase the brackets, have to carry it, then remount the saw.
    Bosch is complete, with wheels.

Since I only use one mitre saw on my stand I just welded the support brackets to a fixed height to fix that problem once and for all. I always store the stand with the lift handle up so the support brackets were always out of adjustment. Have not had the cap issue - but I also don't drag the stand.

I found both the Dewalt and the Milwaukee saw stands to be overpriced saw horses. When I bought my 780 I wound up buying a Home Depot special saw stand that came with 2 tubes per arm with material rollers on each side of the fold up stops. It also had a nice 3 terminal AC outlet and WHEELS. Now thos wasn't practical for leaving the 780 on when not in use so I bought a Ridgid cart far less than both the Dewalt and Milwaukee again. Now that home depot stand on wheels is perfect for my 7.5 Milwaukee miter saw. 115 bucks to boot

I’m a Milwaukee junkie and this stand I wouldn’t buy again... I prefer my older one even though it weighs so much! I have the old version (electric) miter saw and the arms and supports on the new stand don’t get to level with the platform of the saw. Especially when cutting longer material. Clearly this stand was designed to be used with the M18 platform saws. There’s a side table accessory that looks amazing, but once I put my saw on the stand, I wonder how it would even fit on there??? There should be a gen 2 of this stand, make it 6” longer, and make the supports more universal to the Milwaukee saws. Also, would be fantastic if there was a way to put the saw into the truck handle side up without having to either remove the supports so they don’t get scratched or to leave supports installed and not get bent or damaged which results in a rough surface that damages finished material when cutting on the saw...

    Great Review.
I got a great deal on my stand so I'm not mad at it.
I just leave that accessory table on the stand because it is a PITA to continuously mount & unmount.
Those material supports do need a more stable way to attach to the arms. They are not secure and are a flimsy material support that comes aloose & apart from the arms causing support failure which could possibly result in material damage or even injury.
Of course this is extreme and avoidable but possible nonetheless.

I had mine for 3 months before enough of the parts fell off/broke off that it ended up in the trash. I got the stand for free as part of a promo deal with the 10" miter saw so I'm glad I didn't put any money towards it. That saw still gets used once in a while but I basically went back to DeWalt stands and saws. Better quality over all. I like Milwaukee stuff but they need to take a good hard look at their saws and stands and do better against DeWalt and Makita.

Rob as usual I find myself in agreement with your major points but also finding that I've had different experiences than you.
I purchased the stand not just because I'm a major fan of all things Milwaukee, but because it was the most compact stand on the market. By compact I mean when collapsed for storage because as all of us know storage space in our work vehicles is a high priority. I've had issues with the stand (not all of which were attributed directly to Milwaukee) and I've been able to solve, work around our just adjust myself to them. The number one complaint I have for Milwaukee so far as design is concerned is how they attach the bracket on the ends of the support arms. They use just one metric Allen wrench set screw which is easily defeated by the slightest of abuse and makes it and the material support assembly that it holds wobbly which then causes the knob connection that holds it to the bracket to be over taxed and loosened over the course of the work day. I would also like to see an improvement in the knob and bolt connection for the material support assemblies to something like a cam lever instead.
My strap broke on me very early on and I've not replaced it. I totally agree with you on that. I do like the utility of the table on projects that are longer in duration. I just wish they made a attachment system that doesn't require 40 revolutions to tighten down.
Overall I love how compact it is, how light it is, how easy it is to carry and how quickly it sets up and breaks down. Those are the highest priority features for me. Perfect no. Very good? Yes.

I have the same saw and stand - generally like it (minus the fact my miter saw is in the shop. :/) . One thing you didn't mention that I think could be another area for improvement - I'd find it really handy (and some more expensive saw stands have this) to have fold out L-brackets of some kind on the legs to let you place a few 2xwhatevers on the legs while you're cutting. Bonus points if it managed to get two fold out l brackets on there so I could seamlessly cut from one small pile and place on the other brackets. Agree on the leg swing down - already great - but perhaps they could improve them even more?

Milwaukee needs to put out an update fix for the ends, they are absolutely garbage. It basically turns the stand into a table to put your saw on without any supports. Mine is basically new and already I find myself not using the stand at all with my 7 1/4'' saw. If I do a lot of cuts I'm using the 10'' with a rigid gravity rise stand. The supports on that are stout and for a wheeled stand its not heavy at all.
If the ends were updated so they didn't always slide down and require re-tightening I may use it again for light trim and 2x4 framing applications.
I can't imagine using the 12'' saw with this stand. The only way Milwaukee could sell me on a 12'', is if they had the best gravity stand on the market to go with it. Otherwise it looks like dewault with 2 extended stands is by far a better option.
The old rigid gravity stands that were square tube, were the best mobile stand back in the day. I've put 6x6 rough cut 12' posts on it and not had issue with the supports. They had drop leg adjustable supports. Heck you could even convert that stand to accept miter wings for trim. If it wasn't so heavy and had a quick lock for the miter saw, it would be my primary stand today. 15yr old stand is putting new stuff to shame, unreal.

I don’t like any of those stands, they don’t support material all the way I want solid support at least 6 ft long I make my own from 1/2 inch plywood .
